Roles
Character A is Muggle-born; the prejudice against Muggles—and the danger that they are in—drives their compulsion to speak up on behalf of those with Muggle ancestries (and Muggles themselves).
———
Character B is pure-blood; the need to demonstrate that not all pure-bloods side with Voldemort, are shallow, or unaware of their privilege is the reason they accept their nomination.
———
Character C is half-blood; they have no particular reason to join (unless their RPer comes up with a specific one) past wanting to make a difference.
———
Character D is an orphan with unknown heritage; the knowledge that they have relations somewhere out there who will be impacted by whatever unfolds overcomes any qualms they might have about participating.

Role: character c
Name: Al Jones
Age / Year: 16/ Sixth year
House: Ravenclaw
Wand (optional): 11 1/2 inches, ash, phoenix feather, springy
Gender: Agender
Sexual orientation: Pansexual
Ethnicity: British

Likes: Music, art, tattoos, cats
Dislikes: Large dogs, large crowds of unknown people, spiders
Strengths: Creating absence of community, intuitive thinking
Weaknesses: They can be argumentative, they have a naive sense of the world and believe people are all good
Positive traits: Al is pretty accepting of people at first glance. Being in situations where they weren't accepted, Al tries to be there for people who need them. Al is very loyal, they would do almost anything for their friends. Al is also creative, thinking of ways around a situation and trying to do things in unconventional ways. Al is also very empathetic, being an emotional rock to their friends despite their own troubles.
Negative traits: Al can be very stubborn, especially when it comes to their beliefs. Being exposed to the LGBT community at a young age, they grew up with acceptance and finds it very difficult to deal with people openly against them and "their" community. Being around adults all their life, Al has a heightened sense of their maturity, almost rubbing it in. Al also tends to be lazy, lacking motivations to do anything until the last minute, though the work is always done to a high standard.

Face Claim: Benthe de Vries
Personality: Al is generally very accepting and goes out of their way to include people in their group. They are kind and empathetic, though Al tends to avoid their own problems by helping others. Al is an observer in a new situation, opting to take in everyone before making a move. This makes some people think they are introverted, though this is not true. Al takes time find the right people for them, and once they do, they are an amazing and loyal friend. They will stick up for those in need, taking on a more argumentative stance that can seem pushy to others. Typical to Ravenclaw, Al is very creative, often choosing to work outside of the box. They like to challenge certain traditions and is all for innovative change.
Background: Al was born to Mason and Marie on a hot summer day in London. They grew up in a small apartment, and while it wasn’t in the nicest part of town, it was all the small family needed. Marie worked in the Ministry and was all for gaining in her political career, though Mason was told she was involved in some private company. Mason worked as a social worker, helping out troubled teens in the area. However, he was hiding a secret life from his family; he was a drag queen. Mason loved his night life career. He loved performing and being free to be whoever he wanted. When Marie found out, she was shocked and left, unable to deal with Mason and his night life, fearing it may negatively impact her job in politics. She decided to cut all ties, fearing for her career if she took Al with her. It hurt her to leave her child, but she was convinced it was the only thing she could do.

With Marie gone, Mason took on the role of a mother and a father to Al. He would take her to his day job when they were too young for school, and sometimes even to his night job if he couldn’t find a babysitter. Al loved to help out their father and his co workers by “doing their makeup.” They actually grew in talent as the years went on, translating traditional art onto the face. They enjoyed drawing, often doodling scenes from outside their apartment window. Al became a regular in the club with they were about 8 and most of Mason’s coworkers saw them as their own child. However, Al’s life wasn’t perfect. Even working two jobs, Mason couldn’t afford to spoil his child the way he had always wanted to. Their apartment was nice, kept clean and orderly, but the neighborhood was rough at times. A few times police would come to their door, asking them questions about crimes committed nearby. Mason would always do what he could. He was a loving father, something Al needed.

Al was never your typical little girl. Though their father would try and dress them up, they never felt comfortable. When they were 5 they got into the scissors and cut off their hair. When Al saw the fruit of their labor, they were very happy. When Mason found Al, they had a long talk. Al explained how they didn’t feel like a girl, and didn’t like “girly” things. Mason told Al that if they didn't feel like a girl, perhaps Al was a boy. So Al started using male pronouns and doing more boyish things. After trying this out for a few months, Al realized they were not happy with this either. So Al asked their father if there was anything else. So Mason suggested that Al might not have a gender. So Al tried that out, and loved the new person. They have stuck with this since. Mason was proud to help out his child in anyway he could, especially with gender identity. This was an issue he often found confusing for himself, and helping his child helped him in a way.
Mason was shocked and confused when Marie showed up early summer when Al was 10. While Mason tried to find Marie many times, to have her show up was a shock. Mason questioned his old lover’s motivations, but could not bear to keep a mother away from her child. When Al met Marie, Al was stunned. The reality did not match the fantasy they created when they were younger of a brave heroine that needed to be away to fulfill some prophecy or destiny. Al decided to give their mother a chance, hoping for her to be a common occurrence in their life.
Marie’s sudden appearance was explained when Al received a letter from Hogwarts shortly after her arrival. Marie was proud when Al got their Hogwarts letter, being an alumni herself. She decided to teach her child about the wizarding word. Marie also calmed her paranoia of losing her career, coming back into Al’s life as a way of “accepting the consequences” of her actions.

However, the relationship between mother and child was rocky. Marie has an older way of thinking, a thinking that led to the original abandonment. This made Al afraid to break the fragile relationship they had. Al never told Marie about their gender, accepting the fate of deadnaming and misused pronouns. Al didn’t want to be the reason Marie left again and hated the experience, vowing to tell their mother someday, perhaps when the two were a closer. Mason saw Al’s struggle and offered a shoulder to lean on, explaining that some people just were not accepting. While Al knew this, growing up with people ridiculing their father, having the fear of their own mother not accepting them was a hard reality to face.

Al carried this fear into Hogwarts, fearing that all wizards thought this way. They were pleasantly surprised to find this not true. While there were some people who opposed them and their lifestyle, Al managed to find a close group of people like them or who supported them. Al tried to keep on their studies, trying to impress Marie, as well as making their father proud. Al recently came out to their father about being pansexual, knowing he would be cool since he was bisexual himself. Al discovered this when those teen hormones kicked in and they found a lot of different people attractive. Even after 6 years together, Al was still afraid to tell Marie and while Mason urged they do, he never pushed Al to confess. Al is hoping that by joining this competition Marie will be so proud of them that she won't care about Al's identity or sexuality.

Writing sample (2+ paragraphs from any form of creative writing):
Gil sighed, resting his head on his hand hand pushing the food on his plate around. He was usually much more energetic than this, but something was definitely off. Gilbert was turning 18 tomorrow. His birthday had always been cause for celebration in the past, with his friends from the other kingdoms coming for a giant party. While this year would probably be no different, now that he was 21 he would be forced to take on more responsibility. His father had to begin teaching him about the inner workings of the kingdom and the role of all the ministers and how to rule. And while Gil didn't mind getting the crown, and he was actually really excited to one day rule, he didn't want to give up the freedom he was accustom to. No more late nights in the village, sneaking out, goofing around in the castle. He often thought his younger brother would be more suited to the crown and the responsibilities that it brought. The albino was thrown from his thoughts by the entrance of 2 guards.

"His highness and her majesty request that you join them in the main parlor," one said, standing at attention. Gilbert stood and walked past them, giving a loose salute on his way, smirk on his face. This was probably his birthday gift. His parents always gave it to him a day early, for what reason Gil didn't know. However, instead of a horse or carriage or whatever material gift he's gotten in the past, another person knelt by his parents. Clearly looking confused, his father began to explain.

"This made was found earlier today in the town square. Your mother and I decided that it was time you had a mage of your own, since you'll be taking on more power from now on," the tall, imposing man explained. His face was stiff, and he radiates athority.

'My own mage?' Gil thought, still processing the new. Sure, he had seen many mages before, as the family had a couple that they brought out for parties and other events. He never thought he would ever own one. Gil nodded, smirk appearing once more. While he didn't know much about the mages and magic, from what he heard this would be fun. The prince began circling the mage, looking over every inch. He stopped after two rotations in front of the blonde.

"So, do you have a name?" He asked, sneering.

Why should they be selected to represent their house?
Al is the picture of a Ravenclaw. They focus more on the creativity side, tryin new things instead of the same old way. That is what a Ravenclaw is. They are innovative, the next step forward, they push standards and try to make something better. That's all Al wants to do. Push society forward and make a better, more innovative world. While they may not be the picture perfect student, they have strong goals and high acheivment standards. They do get their work done and go above and beyond the expectations set before them.
