Guild of the Desperate: Odd Jobs to Live

Down on your luck, eh? Need a bite? Well, come take on one of these jobs. You may be cutting some elderly widow's lawn, you may be escorting a princess in secret. You may be babysitting a child, you may be stealing an invaluable relic. With King Richard wanting to prevent shady people from entering the capital city, we are the Serviceman Guild, who take on all the unofficial help wanted ads, with the only rule that clients MUST offer gold for our services. Anything more is icing. This guild is known to be a bridge to becoming a high-knight, or a member of one of these prestigious guilds. If you want to earn reputation in this city and those around us, join this Guild......

In this guild, you are in direct service of the King, working directly with the King's Court, aristocrats, and everyone on the hierarchy from the heirs to the throne down to anyone who can afford our service, and incorporates nearly anyone near or far

Assuming genuine interest, a small sigil activates on the note, and more words scrawl on the note, now a blueish glow about them, definitely an attempt to hide it from anyone who weren't genuinely interested. Maybe it was the King himself

............Screw this

No seriously, join this guild. We're suffering here. We're short-staffed and over-piled with request after request. The King is pissed and he'll have our [leadership's] heads if we don't get this backlog figured out........if we're not dragged through the city streets by rope tied to an ass first. The folks are dissatisfied because King didn't think things through and shifted his dumb decision-making onto our shoulders. WE are just easier scapegoats

Help us out here. There's no way you're strong enough to join one of these Guild of high-class adventurers and king's men anyways. At minimum, you're guaranteed gold. We can guarantee you a never-ending flow of gold. The amount varies, but DAMNIT you didn't come through these doors because you're set to retire. You came in because you're one missing meal away from becoming a test dummy for the King's Knights (which ironically pays more because it carries a high risk of death)

Once we deal with all this small fry, we can get to the big stuff. Once we're a proven Odd Job guild, we can do bigger and more large-scale stuff. WE JUST NEED HELP!!

-----------------------------------------

Alright, so as described, this is an RP about a down on its luck guild who is on the verge of shutdown, with the Guildmaster's head on the line for it shutting down. This desperate guild is charged with what's essentially side-quests. The people in this guild vary from weak to strong, but most are relatively weak to the actual stronger guilds who do actual work for the king or the military. You can be a disgraced warrior, a peasant, a fugitive (with no bounty in THIS city), whatever. Just know that we are hiring people looking to be hired by other people to take care of whatever the hell they need.

This RP is designed to be light-hearted in nature and definitely not serious overall. Magic is VERY low-scale in nature as most competent mages are probably doing something more important than joining this guild. This is a guild of people desperate for money and willing to do almost anything for coin. This is the last resort to selling your body for a night.

As we go on and accumulate wealth and complete missions, it'll allow for upgrades to weapons/armor/magic, learning new spells, larger scale missions, more dangerous enemies, more travel, etc. I expect players to start off with little-nothing and to pull themselves up as we move on, constantly updating their CS as

Dungeon Crawling, Pirate Sailing, Sky-sailing, Stealth missions, Night Raids, Siege defense, Convoy escorts is expected to increase as more missions are complete.

Technology: While the world is in the steampunk era, this guild is currently stuck with the occasional flintlock, but bullets are too expensive to assign. They come out of an individual's own pocket. Horseback, as the guild cannot afford teleporters, airships, or anything of the like. This guild is dealing with bow and blade, and no one who joins this guild is likely to be able to go beyond that for now

Magic: Strong mages aren't part of this guild without damn good reason. With a lack of good books on magic, one must learn on their own. In general, magic is gonna be VERY low scale. (No one wants to read an entire post explaining a spell and it's effects). This includes weapon/armor that are enchanted with magic, as well as magic relics and magic-enchanted items (like enchanted herbs). This guild is stuck with herbs, poultices, and bandages for wounds, which is basically like the Army's "Water and Tylenol" for every problem ever. Any healers around will likely be weak in their craft and unreliable for anything more than minor wounds.

Creatures: You can play as any creature EXCEPT divinity. Divinity are Angels/Demons, Holy/Unholy gods, Dragons. This includes any form of variation or descendants (no half-divinity or partial divinity either). No sci-fi stuff. No alien beings from another universe. No time travelers from 20XX. No robot androids. I say this because it was something I had to deal with in the past. In terms of who joins this guild, species really has no effect on who can join, though this guild is located in the human-dominated kingdom of Qaria (Care-Ree-Yah). Humans in general are a bit more accepting of outsiders than a lot of other species

Ooh, very interested! I’m thinking a young, inexperienced adventurer who’s only trying to gain that experience and rise up in the ranks. How opposed would you be to having elementals in the group? And if I were to have my character use magic, what would be a good power ceiling for starting out in this guild?

Just passing by to say that this is a great RP idea and I can imagine all the shenanigans (and perhaps dark humor) that will happen in IC lol

Magic-using is certainly fine, but we're talking low-level stuff. Best reference is in Skyrim with the basic Destruction spell of one of 3 elements (Fire, Ice, Shock), the one that just spouts a small stream of it, with a low mana pool, not for very long, short-distanced, and not very strong. Basically a pathetic amount to the point where carrying a weapon is an absolute must to defend themselves. Anything that's designed to alter minds, control thoughts, and things of the like won't work on anything that's not a juvenile or younger animal

As for elementals, since magic is part of their being, we're probably looking into beings whose power is sealed and those seals need to be released in order to become stronger.........or something like weakened and have to perform some form of power-evolving ritual to get stronger. It's tricky, as elementals are typically very powerful beings, so there needs to be a reason why they're scaled down

Ok, cool! So I'm thinking maybe since they'd be native to their elemental plane, elementals in the material plane would lose somewhat of their power and/or affinity in their respective element. So maybe my character is an elemental that recently got transported to the material plane in some way, probably being banished from his elemental plane for some reason, so lacks most of the power he had in the elemental plane. And he'll eventually gain more power as he gets more used to this new plane.

Sounds interesting. Is there a specific system. Also where would it be played? PBP?
Not sure what pbp means. I'll also need what you're referring to when you talk about the system. Do you mean the magic system? The posting turn system?

this sounds cool!! i'd be interested in joining!

Seems interesting more monsterous races be ok? Like snek person or a kobold
Alright, so it looks like you expressed interest and that looks like enough people to start, so I will tag you all when I get everything set up

Here is the link to the thread. Head over to the CS to create. Remember, we're supposed to be updating the CS as we go, so it's recommended to put down your initial character, not your peak character as we typically do in RPs
