matteo has an incredibly youthful look to him. with some puppy fat still on his face and a childish gleam in his eyes, he always appears to be younger than he actually is, and the mischievous smile normally adorning his face is a surefire way to know that the boy has something up his sleeve. moles dot his skin, freckles that often get compared to constellations are his most notable feature. deep brown eyes that always seem to have a sparkle in them, that are quite honestly windows right into his soul. his brown hair is close cropped, normally not allowing it to get shaggy, and he has little to no facial hair, simply because he isn't able to grow it well. his jawline is pretty sharp, although the chubbiness still in his cheeks hide that. his build is somewhat athletic, and he stands at the very impressive height of five foot nine. a rather pale skin tone, he attributes it to never really going outside, despite his italian heritage. he dresses in rather formal clothing most of the time, dress shirts and ironed slacks, although he tends to wear sweatpants and grungy looking t shirts when he's on his own or in his house. his face or skin can often be adorned with bruises, which he will usually cover up with long sleeved shirts or makeup. due to being an angel, matteo has a pair of wings, but they're constantly hidden away and cause him a lot of pain. they take the form of large, knotted scars on his shoulder blades when they're hidden.

- nathaniel albertelli ; father ; an angel of the lord, nathaniel was one of god's right hand men, the one who was often tasked to do the dirty work that god would refuse to do. seduced by earthly temptations and an empire he'd be able to call his own, nathaniel has been living on earth for the past few centuries. he's a harsh and cruel man, matteo never really feeling any love from his father. nathaniel is a drinker, and matteo often finds himself at the hands of verbal and sometimes physical abuse.
- liliana albertelli ; mother ; lili and matteo are very close, despite lili being almost as harsh and calculating as his father is. she was born and raised in germany, meeting nathaniel shortly after he fell to earth. they have two children together, and liliana helps nathaniel with running the mafia. she knows of her husband being an angel, her two children being half-angels, and has often tried to convince nathaniel to turn her into an angel, despite nathaniel not having the means to do so. she's a very materialistic and vain woman, and she still deeply cares for her children, despite showing it in ways that are often considered not the norm. matteo and lili's relationship is incredibly unhealthy.
- benvolio albertelli ; older brother ; ben and matteo have a good relationship, ben often protecting his younger brother from their father's harsh words. ben denies and despises his angel heritage, and has often told mattie that as soon as possible, he'll leave town and leave the mafia behind, with mattie or not. ben is incredibly caring, but often hides it with a mask due to his role within the mafia.

in the beginning, god created the heavens and the earth.
adam and eve shortly followed, and then the angelic servants god called his own. nathaniel was among them, an archangel who was often sent to earth in order to carry out the plans that god couldn't do. for centuries, nathaniel followed the laws and rules, doing whatever his lord asked of him. and then in the twentieth century, nathaniel became seduced by two things: a german woman with cherry stained lips, and the promises of an empire that could be entirely his own. and so, nathaniel fell to earth, taking the last name albertelli and becoming the ruthless head of the albertelli family mafia. nathaniel was honest to lili about who he was from the get go, something that almost caused a rift between the two of them at first, as lili was not a religious woman. but, the two ended up falling in love, shortly getting married and the two of them running the mafia together.
a few years later, they welcomed their first son, benvolio, named after liliana's favorite shakespeare character, into the world. they never planned on having a second child, especially with what their life was within the mafia. nathaniel was the don, liliana the donna, but they made their slowly growing family work. matteo was born a few years later, a four year age difference between the two children, and nathaniel slowly began to turn towards drinking more often than not. matteo and ben's home life was chaotic at best, lili and nathaniel being incredibly harsh on their children.
matteo was always trying to be a momma's boy, have his parents notice him for anything, anything at all. of course, his attempts were fruitless, his parents really only ever taking notice when he did something wrong or if he stepped out of line yet again. verbal and physical abuse became a commonplace, matteo finding himself standing in front of mirrors applying makeup that he shouldn't have to wear in order to hide the latest black eye that came from his father. a boy who's childhood was stolen from him had his twenty first birthday in mafia meetings, his birthday only being acknowledged by his older brother. he began to sneak out at night, his father beginning to become increasingly impatient with the fact that his son was never where he was supposed to be. his angelic background was never discussed, causing matteo to become ashamed of it, choosing chronic pain over having his wings out, not being able to stand the glances that everyone gave him.
now, at twenty three, his father feels the need to give matteo a bodyguard, simply because he's tired of his son always disappearing into thin air.
