Answered Got a team working on a game, (where) can I advertise it here?

Heyo, folks! So, I'm hosting a game, working on its lore, helping with sprites, and a few other things. But it used to be a game full of hundreds of players at a time, running nations, building cities, Waging Wars, Adventuring, and so many other things!

But now that the original creator left it in the dust, I've adopted it, and started forming a team of older players that used to play it in 2006, when it was first released. After meeting an old coder from back then, he helped build the team up to 30+ Users, according to our Discord Channel, while helping me out with many other things in the process.

My coder wants the game to rise back up from its ashes, but doesn't feel as inspired as he used to, due to its relatively small Player-Base.

I want to help make this game great again, though... but in order to do so, we need more players. And the game's Hardcore, Heavy on RP, and has more potential than most think, and has more features in it than most would expect at first glance.

From Magic and Life Simulation feats, to Dungeons and Dragons meeting Runescape and partying with Dwarf Fortress and Rogue Legacy, while giving birth to a mixture of the four, with many more things added into it! And the best part is, it doesn't even require a high-end PC!

My question is... Am I allowed to advertise it over here? (Like, make an In-Depth Forum Post?) And if so, then where would I be able to do so? Can I link the Discord Channel, or the game's Main Page? And if so, then where may I be able to do so?

Don't see why not, you can post most things in the community hub, and you're free to link to anything you like that isn't like erotica, gore or illegal etc.

RpNation does not allow advertising for external services on site. Sorry for any inconvenience!

I wasn't aware the quality of our writing was correlated to your ability to advertise your game. Shocking. Truly.

I'm not sure what you mean. RpNation is a place for forum-based roleplay to flourish. If you're advertising a forum, you're taking traffic away from the site; if you're advertising another service, it's irrelevant to us, even if it's a "role-playing game". RPGs are often played by people in our community - but social media is a MUCH better place to advertise than our site. :D

I was referring to my game, dude. Why not ask about the meaning before being a smartass?

Not advertising a forum, and the RPG in question isn't very well-known for most people anywhere to know about. And seriously? For a game dedicated to Heavy Roleplay, I should trust SOCIAL MEDIA over A FORUM DEDICATED TO HEAVY ROLEPLAY?! That's just like lighting a torch in the middle of a room full of gasoline, with propane in the air! One simple post, and THERE GOES THE ENTIRE PROJECT!

I wasn't even talking about posting links! I'm talking about spreading the word of the game, and have those who are interested PM me for details... or hitting the game up on Discord! Or is that forbidden, as well?!

Dude, you seriously need to chill. Your game isn't dependant on this one website. The mods told you "No" in a very polite manner. I'd suggest you cut your losses instead of yelling out at a mod. You asked a question. They gave you an answer. I'm not sure what else you were expecting.

These mods work hard every day to keep the community clean, safe, and a good place for nearly everyone. If you don't agree with what they're doing, that's fine. Voice your concerns, and at least show some semblance of respect. They're humans, too.

Let him go. A guy got worked up over a thing on the net. He will grow out of it.
I know that.

I'm also giving him a good piece of advice, too. Which is: Respect the mods, and be calm and collected about your arguments in the future.

In my eyes, that isn't so wrong to do. If I HAVE done something wrong, don't hesitate to tell me.

Daisie, oh Daisie. Why won't you let me have the last word?
I mean... I don't really care. I'm just making sure you understand my points, and if you're making an argument against them. Because if you are, I would have to correctly retaliate against it.
But if all that matters is getting the last post against me, then that's okay with me I guess. Knock yourself out, I was just making arguments.

Yeah, you are right.

Responding in anger is hardly going to change my descision. We don't allow advertising of outside projects. It is not an attack against the merit of your work, it's a policy.

We do not wish to redirect people to content outside of RpNation. It takes too much staff time and energy to make sure advertised services are appropriate with no benefit to our site. The staff's job (we are volunteers) is to promote a healthy community on RpNation.com, and that includes setting rules and regulations for the benefit of our community.

If you disagree with my answer, you can reach out in staff contact, and another staff member can assist you. I will not tolerate further rude or inflammatory behaviour.

Thanks,
Meredith

Aight, lemme rectify. It wasn't anger, it was shock. I usually BOLD words out to establish emphasis on a statement. Sorry I didn't clarify that sooner, as I DO have a job, and a life, like many other people do, and was short of time to post.

In truth, though, I was a bit peeved by welian's offhanded, smartass remark. I do respect the mods, I do know that their word's basically final, and I do understand that they're just worried about people leaving this site when other places are advertised.

Daisie, respect to you for at least trying to defend a mod, and not being a self-entitled prick like apparently 80% of the rest of the commenters here. And you as well, plastic sludge, for at least trying to cool the heat down here.

I did ask a question, I did get an answer by a mod, and it would've been a lot more smoother if Welian didn't smart off like that.

Anyways, thanks for answering it for me, Meredith. I know this site's a group effort, but seriously, there has to be a better suggestion than "Social Media" of all places. You and I BOTH know what kind of trouble that could stir up... just imagine if this site got bombarded by hundreds of "Trollolols" or "Randoms" that don't even care about RP.

Sure it's a forum, which is a lot more open to those kinds of people, but again, this is a GAME we're referring to. We're not simply speaking "Code", we're speaking "Connections".

Being inflammatory to other users isn't acceptable. You're responsible for your own behavior despite others. That goes for everyone in this thread.

Beyond that, I'd suggest getting involved with gaming communities, and maybe joining public discords. The more places you contribute to, the more places that will be friendly to you sharing a game - we just have a blanket rule against such things.
