relationships

"Your vibe attracts your tribe, man."

♕ - close friend | ♘ - friend | ❂ - acquaintance | ❖ - neutral | ❆ - distaste | ♙ - unknown

[ ♕ ] |Luna Trevor
"Luna is my girl. She's chill and knows how to do her, and I respect her for that."

James and Luna are close friends. He appreciates how real and upfront she is, and finds her desire to just do whatever makes her happy, regardless of how others feel, to be refreshing. They've been good friends since the middle of ninth grade when they first met, and they hang out pretty regularly to this day. While they have made out before in the past, they really are just friends and nothing more.

[ ♕ ] | Alaina Clarke
James gets along with Alaina well, and like Luna, considers her to be a close friend. She's unique and doesn't mind standing out in a crowd and doing her own thing, and even though she has the money and connections to be in the A-list, he appreciates how she apparently "found herself" at some point to realize that the A-list kids were all vapid clones of each other and far less interesting than their current friend group. He finds her to be hot, too... so... that helps.

[ ❆ ] | Ezra Bellamy
Bellamy is on the list of people who will probably be rocked in the face before James graduates. He tries to keep that list pretty short because the idea of giving people the power to get under his skin is almost as irksome as those people tend to be on their own, but if anyone was going to end up on that list, it was Ezra. He stands for everything that's wrong with this world, and especially with this social world that James stands on the outskirts of. Up until now, he's managed to either let most of Ezra's comments slide (or just be in an inappropriate place to start a fight and be forced to let them go), but Ezra is the kind of guy who has it in him to push James over the edge into violence, likely without even realizing it.

[ ♕ ] | Charlie Jameson
Come on, who could dislike Charlie?! This kid is 100% pure positive energy and James respects and admires him for that. He's the kind of guy that you can go to no matter how bad your day is, and leave the conversation feeling at least a little better. Charlie can do no wrong in James' book and he looks out for him like a brother.

[ ?? ] | Charlotte Graff
James isn't proud to admit that he's just as enthralled by Charlotte Graff as the rest of the world is, but the truth is that he absolutely, positively is. He found her to be stunning from the moment he first laid eyes on her and even if he never bowed down at her feet and chased her like so many guys from his school do, he was infatuated just the same. Just better at hiding it. When they ended up at the same party this summer and he happened to run into her after she had unknowingly just had a big fight with AJ, he was only looking to help her out. She seemed intoxicated and upset and her posse not being by her side like always was alarming enough for him to insist he make sure she get home in one piece. She ended up leaving her purse in the car and he only noticed once he was being dropped off at his place afterwards, which led to him meeting up with her the next night to return that. And then somehow... one thing led to another and he was in her bedroom wondering how the hell he had just managed to sleep with the Charlotte Gaff. Since then, they've hooked up a handful of times more. Charlotte just recently called it off once school started, stating she couldn't keep "hurting AJ" like this, and James told her that he respected her decision, but he doesn't truly think this is the end of the story, and he's not going to give up that easily either. Can you blame him?! It's Charlotte Graff! He deserves to fanboy just a little.

[ ❖ ] | Katherine Arnault
"I guess I kind of understand why my mom has a sweet spot for her. She's not that vapid once you talk to her."
Interestingly enough, James has known Katherine since childhood. Before his mother started her own housekeeping business, she worked as an employee for one that landed her at the Arnault house five days a week. To this day she claims that it was the easiest money she ever made, since she was tending to a big house that was essentially only occupied by a little girl and her nanny. Somehow, his mother found Katherine to be endearing, often claiming that she was a good example of how a little bit of tough love (or lack thereof) goes a long way. When she founded her own company, the Arnaults were one of her first clients and instead of sending her employees out to take care of them, she typically kept them as her own personal account, as she found them to be one of the more tolerable wealthy clients on her roster. Through that, James sometimes ended up being dragged there on weekends or after school when he was too young to stay home by himself. Whenever it happened, his mother insisted that he sit in a back room with a book and read to himself and not be a bother, but he still got to know Katherine, even just vaguely, through that. Once he began school at Saint Jude's, he learned of her social circle pretty quickly. While the two of them aren't friends, he doesn't as lowly of her as he might if his mother didn't approve of her.

[ ♕ ] | Alex Suarez
James met Alex through their church. He recognizes why she can be abrasive sometimes and doesn't blame her for it; it's hard for anyone who doesn't want to be a clone of the popular kids to really fit in. They both tend to speak their minds and aren't afraid to stand up to anyone if they think that they're wrong, and James admires that in her. All things considered, she's the last person he wants to find out about his fling with Charlotte. Not only because he knows that Charlotte apparently ruined Alex's life a while back, but also because he knows just how scary Alex's wrath can be.

[ ❆ ] | Malachai Walker
As far as James knows, Kai hasn't done anything to personally offend him, but James simply isn't impressed with the guy. He gets why a lot of people gravitate towards him and he doesn't find him to be despicable or atrocious, just... underwhelming. He's just another rich kid who will peak in high school, if you ask James.

[ ❆ ] | AJ Clarke
James isn't keen on most of the A-listers due to the mere fact that in order to be considered a part of that group, you have to be an asshole to some extent. AJ isn't exempt to that blanket statement. Him being a POC would typically warrant James feeling a bit better about him, simply because in the society they share space in, being black is enough to outcast you on its own, so both being POC would be even a thinly veiled connection. AJ is too much of a jerk for that to mean much in this case though, and James would say that he isn't fond of AJ. Because he's Alaina's brother, and also just because James isn't obsessed with these people, James would never go out of his way to start a problem with "The King Bee", but he wouldn't hesitate to finish one if AJ wanted to try him.

[ ♕ ] | Norah Palmer
Norah is a diamond in the rough. She's one of the few people James has ever come across who seems to not have a single bad bone in her body. She's generous, kind, helpful... just the kind of friend you know you can count on to make you feel better no matter what the situation is.

relationships

quote here

😃 - close friend | 😊 - friend | 🙂 - acquaintance | 😐 - neutral | 🤬 - distaste | 😶 - unknown

😃 | A.J. Clarke
"He's pretty annoying with his friends, but besides that, he's my Day One."
While their different social spheres might portray a different story, as kids, they were two peas in a pod. Having a sibling your own age really was like having a 24/7 sleepover with your best friend. Even though Alaina constantly felt like she couldn't make it outside of A.J.'s shadow because in her eyes he was their parents' golden child, Alaina simply swallowed those feelings. For one, she wasn't old enough to articulate or even understand the feeling that A.J.'s accomplishments seemed to warrant bigger smilers from Mom and Dad. Secondly, she still really looked up to A.J. Her clinginess didn't survive past middle school, where she eventually learned that the people she thought were her friends were merely only associating with her to get closer to her exceedingly popular brother.

She constantly criticizes A.J. about and in front of his friends because she thinks they're all fake, trashy clones. She would say it's merely because you expect more from your family, but a good bit of her criticism towards A.J. is her resentment towards his special treatment growing up, and socially. That he continues to hang with the same crowd she feels wronged her is also just icing on the cake. This has certainly caused riffs over time, and so, no, they aren't as close as they were when they were kids, but there's still a silent, but strong understanding that they have each other's back.

🤬| Charlotte Graff
"I'd sooner drink acid than say anything nice about her."
Few things confuse her more than why people seem to obsess over her brother so much. Charlotte is one of those things. Alaina would firmly stand by her belief that she'd take her chances swallowing a jawbreaker whole than put faith in Charlotte having more appeal than sticking a fork in a socket. A lot of that animosity towards Charlotte comes from the fact that the girl represents the epitome of everything she hates about this dumb 'social hierarchy.' As if her presence wasn't enough at school, the fact that she has to deal with the girl outside of that because she's dating A.J. is torture.

Despite all of this, since Charlotte has been dating A.J. for some time now, she's gradually become desensitized to her. Plus, after a quick cost-benefit analysis, the consequences she faced from her parents for being rude to A.J.'s girlfriend weren't worth it in the end. Part of her resentment towards A.J. continuing to hang out with the same group of people that wronged her is projected onto Charlotte. As well as any other frustration she's feeling. Would Alaina say Charlotte deserves everything she throws at her because no one else seems to want to keep her in check? Sure. Does Charlotte truly deserve everything Alaina subjects her to? No, probably not, but Alaina would be the last to admit that.

🤬| Ezra Bellamy
"There's disgusting, deep ocean, life-force-sucking vermin, and then there's Ezra Bellamy."
In all honesty, Alaina doesn't know Ezra that well--and for that, she's grateful. She's crossed paths with him more than she'd care for simply because, once again, her brother has terrible taste in friends. She thinks Ezra is full of himself, and the fact that his friends don't check him just further proves Alaina's belief that the A-listers are a bunch of fake socialite wannabes.

😊| Charlie Jameson
"At first, he wasn't my favorite, but honestly? Charlie's hilarious and super endearing."
Upon first meeting him, Alaina will admit that they didn't start off on the best fitting, and that was really her fault. After being freshly dumped by the people she (naively) thought were her friends, the last thing she wanted to do was be around someone who didn't hate them as much as she did. She still can't understand why anyone gives a crap about that group of people, but because she's grown fond of Charlie over the years, her frustration towards that ever present question has lessened tremendously. She will still tease and poke fun at Charlie for his interest in the 'cool kids,' because it is still laughable, but she doesn't take it as seriously as used to. She certainly wishes he'd come to the understanding that she, Luna, and James seem to have on the A-listers, but she won't fault Charlie for it too much because it's simply in his nature to see the good in people.

😃 | James Mande
"James? James is the homie, deadass."
Alaina has always and appreciated James for his self-awareness and poise. He stands by his values, and those values align with hers, so that's a plus. He's one of the few people she thinks actually gets it. Unlike 99% of the kids at their schools combined, he's got a backbone and something solid to stand by. When Alaina's resentment towards the A-listers gets a little out of hand, she tends to look to James. Alaina claims she doesn't care about the social hierarchies at school, but she realizes she cares enough for it to still piss her off. James seems to have advanced past that stage, and she would like to get there to. Eventually.

😐 | Katherine Arnault
"I've met headless chickens smarter than her."
If Alaina had to pity anyone besides herself for having to deal with Charlotte Graff of all people, it would be Luna for having to do that with Kat. What's more? The girl had to live with her. Even though Alaina's interactions are a bit more in number than they would be if her best friend wasn't Kat's step-sister, she still doesn't run across Kat long enough or intimately enough to really have any hard feelings towards her. If anything, she kind of feels bad for the girl. She seems to be a stupid, lost bundle of drama with a pretty face. Who could hate that? It was like hating one of the one-legged pigeons in central park that hop and squawk around until you give it attention. You could hate it, but it'd be a lot easier to just toss it some bread and hope it keeps its remaining leg.

😐 | Malachai Walker
"At least he has a bit of a personality."

Malachai is one of the few A-listers that doesn't completely grind Alaina's gears. He's nice enough, and so because of that, she doesn't mind interacting with him if their paths ever cross. Given that he's quite charismatic, she also doesn't find it hard to strike a conversation if she ever does happen upon him.
😃 | Luna Trevor
"Literally my future wife."

Luna holds a special place in her heart as she's by far Alaina's absolute best friend. Luna is always a good time, and even though she can be a smiddgeeee crazy, it's pretty much impossible to turn down any of those ideas of hers simply because it's always a good time with her. Out of everyone, she definitely trusts Luna the most, so it's weird for her at times to keep the secret about her eating disorder from her. In a lot of ways, she admires Luna for her authenicity and go forward attitude and is a good reason why she likes to get into things with Luna.
[ ♙ ] | Alex Suarez
"I hate what happened to her, but I like the new Alex."

Alex is a good friend of Alaina's. Their relationship dates back to middle school, though they never formally became friends until high school. During eighth grade, Alaina would still attempt to communicate with her when she wasn't around the other A-listers. They also had science together, and so it was easier to be candid and enjoy each other's company there. Alaina was especially interested in Alex at the time because she herself was going through her own doubts about the same group of people she called friends. While Alaina can seem quite spirited when it comes to the A-listers, Alex is another level. Typically, it doesn't bother Alaina, because the girl has good reason. On the other hand, Alaina doesn't have as much of a vengeance towards them, but Alex is certainly the other devil on her shoulder while James' more relaxed approach is on the other.

Charlie Jameson

Age: 16
Clique: B-List
Role: The Class Clown

  • The King Bee | Austin Clarke: Charlie and AJ have known each other since childhood, simply due to being classmates. They never connected to an extent where they were close friends but at the same time, never held any animosity towards each other within their interactions. Charlie thinks that he's a cool guy and he gets why a lot of people want to be friends with AJ, as he wouldn't be opposed to it himself. Since AJ is the coolest and most popular guy at school, there is a part of Charlie that wishes that he was on better terms with the King Bee.
  • The Queen Bee | Charlotte Graff: Charlie doesn't know Charlotte Graff on a personal level, but like everyone else, he knows who she is. She's the 'it' girl of the private schools in Manhattan and has been seen in that light for as long as Charlie can recall. He's seen her before at social events but knows that he would probably be nothing less than a bumbling idiot if he ever tried talking to her, so he's comfortable with just admiring her from afar like most of the other non A-listers do.
  • The Untouchable One | Ezra Bellamy: Charlie has an inclination to want people to like him, and this is especially true with the popular kids on campus, since he recognizes that they hold a lot of influence (and also, simply because they're typically harder to impress). While Charlie knows he won't ever be a part of that friend group and loves his own friends enough to be comfortable with that fact, he does still try harder than he really needs to when he ends up around the popular kids. Ezra has always been pretty dismissive of him and Charlie isn't blind or deaf to that, but it's within his nature to want to act like most people like him even if they don't, so he would never bash Ezra or bring up any of the hurtful things that he's said to him over the years.
  • The Drama Queen | Katherine Arnault: In line with his interest in the popular crowd, Charlie always thought that Katherine was really beautiful. She always had such a pretty smile and seemed fun to be around (not that he's ever actually hung out with her... just from watching her from a distance at social events). With that being said, they aren't friends and have only interacted on the surface level at social events per Charlie's (forced) interaction or through Luna. Like most people, Katherine isn't immune to his tendency to make jokes, especially when they distract from his own flaws, but he would never make them in front of her.
  • The Charmer | Malachai Walker: Charlie isn't close with Kai, but that isn't surprising since he isn't really close with any of the A-listers. Similarly though, he does socialize with Kai from time to time in neutral settings like the classroom or a party that they both happen to be at, and Charlie definitely does make an effort to be more interesting and likable when around Kai, like he does with the other A-listers. He admires the inherent charm that Kai has and how he's so likeable without having to put any work into it.
  • The Overachiever | Sila Karadeniz: Early on in his career, Charlie's father worked at the same law firm as Sila's parents did, so their parents were friends before either party had children. Once Charlie and Sila did enter the world, their parents shifted from solely seeing each other at dinner parties and formal events, to also getting together for playdates and children's birthday parties, so Charlie grew up knowing Sila. As they grew into their own identities, Sila became popular at Constance Billard, and Charlie found his place in the social world of Saint Jude's. Their social placements didn't exactly align, so the two don't socialize very frequently in the public setting, but are still friendly and cordial to each other on face value. Behind closed doors, it's easier to return to their closer friendship without the weight of judgmental eyes peering down at them. If it wasn't for that old friendship, Charlie never would have accepted his parents' insistence that he ask Sila to help tutor him in some courses, as his inability to excel in school was always an embarrassing subject for him. Away from her A-list friends, Sila is still the same kind and sweet girl that he knew as a child, though.
  • The Traitor | Antonia Vaughn:
  • The Leader | James Mande: Charlie and James are close friends, and James would probably consider James to be his best friend, if not at least one of the top three. He respects James for how strongly he stands by his beliefs no matter who, if anyone, is standing beside him. He knows himself and is comfortable and confident in his own skin, which is something Charlie wishes he could say about himself too.
  • The Entrepreneur | Edward Geuss: Charlie and Goose are friends. Charlie's personality can sometimes be a bit much for Goose, but Charlie's spirits are usually high enough that he doesn't notice or it doesn't bother him if it does. In his typical behavior of trying to make sure everyone likes him, Charlie sometimes gives Goose some of his Adderall for him to sell to his clients. He knows that he kind of needs to take it himself, but it's not a life or death medication and he likes the idea of being a part of something and helping his friend.
  • The Bully | Alexandra Suarez: Charlie and Alex are unlikely friends, mostly because they channel their insecurities in nearly opposite ways. While Alex bites back, Charlie takes the punches thrown at him and tries to spin them into a positive light. It's not a tactic that always works, and that's why having Alex around helps him balance things out. They have their differences (and on the down low, she scares him sometimes when he sees her getting pissed at people) but he respects her a lot and would consider her to be a good friend.
  • The Rebel | Luna Trevor: Charlie and Luna's friendship began back in middle school, when Luna first entered the social scene that existed between the Constance Billard and Saint Jude's students. Charlie has always been one to want to befriend as many people as possible, and especially back then, making a new friend who was a girl seemed even more enticing. Luna arrived on the scene right around the time that Charlie was growing into himself as a person, and in turn, internally coming to terms with his sexuality. Since he was no where near comfortable with being anything other than straight (and still isn't), the idea of befriending a girl was especially intriguing and ever since then, Charlie still claims that he's on his way to asking Luna out. It's nothing more than a cover up and at this point, his friends have turned it into a running joke that basically reflects how his love life is non-existent, but even if his intent was for Luna to be his beard (and still is), he considers her to be a good friend regardless.
  • The Free Spirit | Alaina Clarke: Charlie considers Alaina to be a friend, as he does with most of the B-listers. Her personality is intriguing and fun, and he's also intrigued by her being related to AJ, so there's that too.
  • The Motherly One | Norah Palmer: Charlie is warm and friendly to nearly everyone he crosses paths with, so it isn't surprising that he and Norah get along well. She's one of the sweetest people he's ever met, and he appreciates how she shares his interest in keeping their friends happy and smiling.

Charlotte Graff

Role:
The Queen Bee
Clique: A-list
Hex: #FFACD2

  • The King Bee | Austin Clarke: Charlotte and Austin have been dating for a little over three years now, and on the outside, everything adds up to make them look like the perfect couple. At one point, they were the perfect couple. They were in love, and had fun together no matter what they were doing. Things just changed this past summer, and as much as she wants to blame it on AJ, Charlotte knows that she hasn't been the perfect girlfriend either. She doesn't ever plan on telling him that she hooked up with James over the summer, because she's certain that it won't happen again, so it's not important. If she were to find out that Austin had slept with someone while they were dating, nonetheless with that someone being her friend, Toni, infidelity would seem a lot more important than it does now that she thinks she's the only culprit of it. Overall though, she does want things to work with AJ. She wants things to go back to how they used to be but she doesn't know how to get back to that point, and she doesn't think that she's flawed in any way that would make it her responsibility to fix it.
  • The Bully | Alexandra Suarez: Even just bringing up this girl's name usually makes Charlotte smile. It's sick, because that smile comes from a place of pure malevolence. She's not remorseful for outing Alex as being a lesbian, or for turning everyone against her. If you ask Charlotte, it's not her fault that Alex was constantly staring at girls in the locker room, or telling Charlotte weirdly sexual things behind their backs. Charlotte was doing a service to the community by informing them of how disturbingly weird Alex truly was, so... you're all welcome. Charlotte isn't a pathological liar though, and she does know that that isn't what really happened. It just puts her in a much better light than admitting the truth, and stating that she had Alex blacklisted because she was spending too much time with AJ in middle school.
  • The Rebel | Luna Trevor: Charlotte knows who Luna is through school, and through Luna's step-sister relationship with Katherine, but they aren't friends or even friendly. Charlotte takes Katherine's word for Luna being an annoying weirdo, and is loyal enough to Kat in regards to that to not want to see for herself whether it's true or not.
  • The Free Spirit | Alaina Clarke: Alaina is AJ's brother, and therefore, by default, Charlotte needs to deal with her sometimes. Make no mistake, though--she doesn't like Alaina, and wouldn't interact with her if given the choice. She finds Alaina to be annoying and doesn't appreciate her never ending stream of smart ass remarks. Merely because AJ is her brother and because Charlotte wants his parents and family to consider to view her in the pristine light that they do, she keeps her mouth shut and plays nice with Alaina for the most part. If being snarky makes Alaina feel better about herself, then Charlotte supposes having to bite her tongue is worth it. She knows that Alaina's spitefulness is just masked jealousy for being knocked out of the clique that she never belonged in, so, whatever.
  • The Overachiever | Sila Karadeniz: Charlotte considers Sila to be a close friend, which isn't something that many people can say. She's intelligent, successful, and maintains a sparkling clean reputation overall. Charlotte prides herself in her image and reputation, and therefore only allows people into her circle if they either have something to offer her, or are also exceptionally successful in one way or another, be it in their appearance, social status, parents' reputation, intellect, etc.. Sila fit the bill when it came to that, and they've been good friends ever since. Charlotte sees her as being a very stable, go-to friend, as the girl always seems to have herself composed and ready for any challenge. She appreciates her need for perfection because it's a trait that Charlotte has as well, so they generally get along well.
  • The Drama Queen | Katherine Arnault: Charlotte considers Kat to be her oldest friend, and in many regards, her closest friend too. Katherine is sweet and lovable, and in many ways, the way that Kat functions differs from Charlotte's colder and less emotional tendencies. She knows that she can seem harsh with Katherine sometimes, but it's not anything exclusive towards Kat--Kat is just dramatic and makes little comments into much bigger deals than they need to be. While Charlotte does her best to tread more softly with Kat, especially since she knows how she is after all of these years of being friends, even when they do have their moments, she knows that Kat will always be there for her. If her loyalty makes people think of her as Charlotte's minion, so be it. Charlotte just sees her as being a ride or die friend, and one of the few that she knows would be there for her no matter what, for no reason other than genuine love and friendship.
  • The Motherly One | Norah Palmer: Charlotte doesn't know Norah well, and doesn't feel a need to get to know her any better than that. The two exist in different social spheres, but Charlotte doesn't think poorly of Norah. She's only heard good things about her, and is willing to be cordial and kind when interactions do occur, in shared classes for example, simply because she has no reason to treat her poorly.

relationships

♕ - close friend | ♘ - friend | ❂ - acquaintance | ❖ - neutral | ❆ - distaste | ♙ - unknown

[ ❆ ] |Luna Trevor | The Rebel

Katherine's father married Luna's mother around four years ago, making the girls stepsisters. Katherine didn't want or need a stepsister at the time, and that sentiment still remains too. If nothing else, the two fight like true sisters do... Even though they do fight nearly constantly, Katherine has grown to accept the fact that Luna is her stepsister by now. There's a small part of her that even becomes bothered when A-listers bring her name up, because despite her intentions, she's begun to inevitably see Luna as a part of her family.

[ ❆ ] | Alaina Clarke | The Free Spirit

Even though Katherine knew Alaina before Luna came into the picture, Kat mostly associates Alaina with being one of Luna's friends. Correction--one of Luna's weird friends. She's still surprised that Alaina and AJ are twins because of how normal he is, and how annoying she is. Though Katherine never actively disliked Alaina when she used to hang out with them, they were never particularly close and just as Kat accepted Alaina back then because that was what everyone else did, she was quick to move on from her once everyone else did, too (or once Alaina chose to move on herself).

[ ♙ ] | Ezra Bellamy
'
text

[ ❖ ] | Charlie Jameson

Charlie Jameson isn't a name on Katherine's radar too often, and it would probably take her a few seconds to recall who he even is, even though she's met him on several ocassions. When she does remember who he is, she would probably describe him as being kind and friendly, but that she doesn't know him well. He seems too nice to be friends with Luna, but who he chooses to be friends with is the least of Kat's concerns.

[ ♕] | Charlotte Graffe

Katherine and Charlotte first met in kindergarten, though their fathers have a longstanding business relationship that dates back to prior to either girl's birth. Especially as a child, Kat was a vibrant and friendly little ball of energy, and she never struggled to make friends with whoever her nanny, under her dad's discretion, set her up to have play dates with. She and Charlotte became fast friends pretty quickly, and she considers Charlotte to be her best friend to this day. While Charlotte is often coined as being cold and ruthless, Katherine knows a much warmer and softer side to her that most of the world doesn't get to see. Charlotte is her favorite person to go shopping with, to watch movies and eat ice cream in bed with, to complain about boys with; she's her best friend. All things considered, Katherine still isn't blind to Charlotte's flaws, and she isn't exempt from them all of the time either. There are certainly times where Kat feels like Charlotte is mean or critical to her for no fair reason, but because she's so used to how Charlotte functions, she doesn't usually complain about that to Charlotte. Instead, she either sulks about it on her own or complains to their mutual friends, and then eventually gets over it and moves on.

[ ❖ ] | James Mande
'
When Katherine saw James in a Saint Jude's uniform one day inside of her house with Luna, she was surprised to say the least. She recognized him because his mother worked for her family, and happened to be one of the very few members of the house staff that Kat actually loved. She would sometimes bring James along with her and though Mrs. Mande would always insist that James occupy himself while she worked, Kat always found the boy to be intriguing. She was the only child in her family at that time, and though she had friends, she was often lonely in her home, and that loneliness sometimes prompted her to ask his mother if she could play with him. The encounters weren't frequent enough that Kat felt like a missing piece of her puzzle had returned when she saw James again, but especially because his mother still comes by their house sometimes (though now, it's usually just one of her employees), Katherine is friendlier to him than she would be to any of the others in that friend group. She and James aren't friends, but she doesn't think of him as being as worthless as some of his friends.

[ ❆ ] | Alex Suarez

If there's a word stronger than hate, Katherine would ask you to insert it here when attempting to describe how she feels about Alex Suarez. She knows exactly how to get under Katherine's skin (not like it's that hard), and she doesn't stop. Perhaps Kat deserves it for being so quick to turn against Alex when the incident happened back in middle school, and perhaps she's asking for it by typically being the one to start the bickering that ensues between the girls on a nearly daily basis in their shared classes, but Katherine doesn't see it that way. She sees it as Alex attacking and bullying her for absolutely no reason, because that's just the kind of monster that she is.

[ ♘ ] | Malachai Walker

Malachai is a perfect friend for Katherine. He recognizes that money isn't that deep, and that spending money like it grows on trees is perfectly normal behavior that doesn't warrant a lecture about how there are starving people on the other side of the world who could use all of that money for something more necessary than a pair of five figure shoes. They value similar things and because Kat is often just looking for a friend to listen to her and validate her feelings and behaviors that others might criticize, he fills a friendship void that few others can take on just the same.

Luna's relationships
  • AJ Clarke: Luna thinks of AJ as being Alaina's brother. She doesn't have any other independent relationship with him, and will likely keep it that way out of respect for her friend. She knows that AJ is popular and she doesn't mind him or think poorly of him; she just doesn't see a need to make their neutral relationship anything more than it is.
  • Ezra Bellamy:
  • Malachai Walker: Kai is one of the least obnoxious A-list boys. While they aren't friends, Luna would say hello to him in passing. She probably wouldn't ever sleep with him again, like she did last year, but she also doesn't regret their one night stand because he was pretty decent in bed. For someone who talks highly of themselves and is constantly moving through girls, she expected him to be all talk with little to back it up, but she thinks of Malachai in a faintly better light now.
  • Charlotte Graff: Most people love Charlotte, and unlike Alaina, Luna can see why. Part of the problem is that most people are feeble minded sheep who blindly follow the opinion of the crowds, and so in Luna's opinion, a lot of people idolize Charlotte simply because the people around them do, and it just becomes a chain reaction. Beyond that, Charlotte has everything that the classic 'it' girl is supposed to have. She fits the traditional mold of beauty: blonde, blue eyed, clear and smooth skin; she has a ton of money; and she's a bitch. Charlotte carries an air that demands she be worshiped, and so the idiots around her do just that. Luna doesn't hate her in a personal sense, but she does hate what she represents. Since she has to deal with Charlotte fairly regularly because of her relationship with Kat, Luna tries to pretend Charlotte just doesn't exist. When she's all that anyone ever wants to talk about though, that's usually impossible to do.
  • Katherine Arnault: In what feels like a move by the universe to punish her for some heinous crime committed in a past life, Katherine has been Luna's stepsister since they were twelve years old. One would have hoped that time would have made them a more cohesive blended family, but unfortunately, that isn't the case here. Luna isn't an innocent angel in all of this, but she does feel like Katherine is the one who makes living together peacefully an absolutely impossible task. She finds her stepsister to be too spoiled and bratty to be treated as an equal, and while she enjoys getting under Kat's skin now and then as payback for how unbearable she is, she does try to keep her mouth shut for the sake of keeping the peace.
  • Antonia Vaughn:
  • James Mande: James is the kind of friend that everyone deserves in their life. While he's fun enough to keep Luna intrigued and interested, he's also grounded, real, and smart enough to keep them all out of any real trouble when they get together. Although Luna doesn't accept input from many people regarding her life choices, she typically feels inclined to hear James out more than she would other people because she knows that he always comes from a good place.
  • Charlie Jameson: Luna thinks of Charlie as being a good friend. She appreciates people like him who radiate happiness and positivity, and though she never hesitates to make fun or him for how dumb some of the stuff he says and does are, she would never want to see him hurt. He's a fun person to hang around and while he isn't the first person she would go to if she was looking for advice, she still enjoys his company in relaxed settings.
  • Alexandra Suarez: Luna and Alex are good friends, and when Luna drinks too much, they sometimes move beyond that. Luckily, Alex is like Luna in the sense that she doesn't seem to cling to drunken make out sessions with any sort of unnecessary emotions, so it hasn't ever made their sober friendship weird, at least as far as Luna is concerned.
  • Alaina Clarke: Alaina goes down as Luna's best friend and partner in crime. She may be a little bit more sensible than Luna is, but she has just as sarcastic and entertaining of a personality and sense of humor, so their connection was bound to happen at some time. In addition to how cohesive and easy their friendship is, Alaina also understands what it's like to have a sibling in the same social world as she. It might not seem like a big deal, but having to deal with Katherine (and AJ on Alaina's part) is annoying, and sometimes hard work, and it's nice to be able to talk to someone who understands what it's like to be the "less cool" sibling, even if neither of them would trade places with their siblings just for popularity.
  • Edward Geuss:

Ezra Bellamy
  • The King Bee | Austin Clarke: A.J. is one of Ezra's closest friends. For a brief time, he used to be envious of the boy, but has since come to admire him in a sense. He appreciates A.J.'s ability to win over a room, and that he does it in a way so differently from Ezra himself. While he still thinks A.J. can be a little too nice at times, he's never afraid to give A.J. a push in what Ezra sees to be the 'right' direction. Ezra can certainly act as a bit of an enabler, but it's mostly out of a sense of protection.
  • The Bully | Alexandra Suarez: Ezra really only knows Alex because of what went down in middle school. While the gossip was fresh, Ezra was a prime player in ensuring that Alex remained out of their circle with her weird ways. Even outside of 'protecting' their clique, and almost acting as a barrier between she and A.J., Ezra still gave Alex a hard time when he saw. The teasing only lasted for a short while, and by the end of the year, he had moved on. Like with just about everything he says, Ezra couldn't recall any 'harsh teasing' on his end. Would he believe someone if they told him he made his opinion on the matter very clear? Certainly. But he would attest that, as usual, it was just people being sensitive and not being able to hear the truth.
  • The Rebel | Luna Trevor: Ezra's interactions with Luna are uncommon, but compared to the rest of the B-listers, not so much. Since she's Kat's friend, and since she's friends with A.J.'s sister, he sees her more than he would the others in their friend group. While he still thinks she's odd just by association with her group, he does think she's hot and wouldn't mind sharing another night á la New Years Eve freshman year.
  • The Free Spirit | Alaina Clarke: Ezra definitely sees Alaina as being a major weirdo. Unlike with Alex, there were no theatrics when Alaina officially got the memo that no one wanted her around. Besides her being annoying at times, he doesn't really have much to say about her, especially since she tends to steer clear of him when she can. Her being A.J.'s sister certainly works in her benefit, and not just because it makes him more tolerant of her.
  • The Drama Queen | Katherine Arnault: Ezra honestly gets a kick out of Kat. Inevitably, the girl can be a bit much, but he enjoys her dramatics most of the time. He appreciates that she doesn't fawn over what most people would consider luxuries, and her chattery ways when it comes to what's going on in the Upper East Side are always amusing to say the least. While he definitely thinks there's a reason she's Charlotte's sidekick, he likes Kat the way she is, even if he thinks she might be a little dumb. She's someone he could chill and hang out with and not be endlessly annoyed by, even if she can be annoying.
  • The Leader | James Mande: Ezra doesn't enjoy James' presence. The guy has a stick up his ass and honestly just needs to be put in his place. Ezra doesn't go out of his way to speak to James, but they definitely have a history of butting heads in class due to their headstrong personalities.
  • The Class Clown | Charlie Jameson: Ezra definitely knows Charlie. He's the kid who smells a bit like desperation mixed with can't take a hint. For the most part, Ezra doesn't think anything of him other than he can be a bit annoying. He has no hard feelings against the guy, but also wouldn't care if he never came across the kid again.
  • The Charmer | Malachai Walker: Malachai is Ezra's closest friend. He's more likely to heed his advice than anyone else's, and it's likely for this reason that he was able to stop Ezra from doing anything more than spiking that drink that night. It's not something he's addressed since it happened, and he honestly doesn't think there's anything to address. Malachai is always a good time, even if he does try to reason with Ezra when he pushes things too far. Like many, he also enables Ezra's own problematic behavior, which is certainly the kind of person that Ezra likes to keep close to him. Recently, Ezra has begun to notice that the type of closeness he appreciates with Malachai is changing, though, and he's not sure how he feels about that.

Alexandria "Alex" Suarez
tumblr_inline_n9w5e2SiiL1rwt71l.gif

My friends call me Alex, or they would if I had any.

James Mande | The Leader
"James is one of the few people here with more than two braincells."
Meeting at church and bonding over a running a food drive they were forced to work together (for said church), these two have been thick as thieves ever since. They share a lot of similar attitudes, though Alex's distaste for the A-listers is a bit stronger. Alex admires the strength of his morals and she's quick to back him up no matter what. If anyone even thinks of attacking him for his circumstances, she goes for the jugular. She doesn't have many friends, so she values her connection with James.
Ethan Kings | Party Animal
"Ethan has more personality than all of these trust fund babies combined."
Bonded by a mutual hate of the A-listers for ostracizing them, Alex and Ethan have a strong friendship. They've both been wronged by the people they thought were their friends, but they still had each other in the aftermath. Alex loves going out with Ethan whenever she can, but she wonders where he gets the energy to do it so often. She loves spending time with him - more so when they're playing soccer, less when they're watching horror flicks against her will.
Charlie Jameson | The Class Clown
"Absolute riot. I'm hoping he realizes the A-Listers aren't all that sooner or later."
At first, Alex would've crowned Charlie the most obnoxious person in all of New York, but he's grown on her. She's learned to appreciate Charle's attitude and behavior. She feels protective over him, especially when he gets comments on his sexuality. Feeling that that's not anyone's business, she's quick to jump to his side and scare off anyone who would've poked fun at him. She does wish he'd change his stance on the A-listers; it's sad to see him trying to get them to like him. She brushes it off and Charlie really just trying to get everyone to like him
Luna Trevor | The Rebel
"Luna gets me. Plus she's the only other girl who's out."
Maybe you've caught them making out at a party or two, but Alex will swear up and down that they're just good friends. Alex loves being around Luna because there are no ridiculous standards with Luna, no crazy hoops to jump through. There's just acceptance and chaos. Impulsive and sarcastic, the girls are a terrible combination for everyone else. As for the drunken hook ups... well, everyone gets lonely, right? It's so hard to find other gay girls at school, so it happens now and again. Alex chooses never to talk about it because it's not worth ruining the friendship over, especially since she can't tell if she likes Luna romantically or if she's just the only other option.
xx
If you see me in a fight, it's probably with one of these guys.

Charlotte Graff | The Queen Bee
"Vapid little narcissistic liar. She's not the perfect girl you think she is - she's a cruel, manipulative bitch."
Though they were once friends, nowadays they're anything but. Charlotte's the root of all of Alex's problems. She's the cause of all the pain Alex has suffered and for what? Alex still doesn't really understand. The desire for revenge and the pain she felt has been growing for a while now. Whenever she gets the opportunity to inconvenience Charlotte or make her life even just a little worse, Alex takes it, whether it's something as mundane as getting to school first and taking Charlotte's favorite parking spot, or something as juicy as spreading some gossip or rumor she'd heard about the blonde.
Katherine Arnault | The Drama Queen
"If you stand next to her, you can hear the ocean."
Alex resents Katherine for the terrible treatment she received in middle school. Ever since they started high school, Alex takes any opportunity to bother her or get under her skin. It's easy because Kat reacts instantly. Alex knows exactly what buttons to push after having been friends with Kat for years. Teachers have grown tired of the bickering between the two of them, but neither of the girls could care. In Alex's opinion, Kat's probably the most pathetic of all of them - she's a total follower, doesn't have even half a brain, and has the emotional depth of a nine year old.
Sila Karadeniz | The Overachiever
"Like her GPA, she's probably a 4 at best."
Sila is just another one of Charlotte's minions; the only difference between her and Kat is that Sila has a brain. Unfortunately, the brain didn't come with values, morals, or a personality, according to Alex. She knows Sila's smart - everyone knows Sila's smart - but she couldn't name another good quality. The same distaste and attitude towards Kat and Charlotte applies to Sila.
Ezra Miller | The Untouchable One
"Absolute sleazebag with his head so far up his own ass... ugh."
Charlotte may be the devil now, but in middle school Ezra was just as bad.
Don't ask, I don't really feel like talking about it.

Alaina Clarke | The Free Spirit
"Alaina's cool, we get along pretty well."
Don't get her wrong: she and Alaina are friends. Alaina was the only one out of the group that still spoke to her when she was shunned. This lifeline was the only thing Alex had and without it she wouldn't know how she'd survive. In high school, they bonded over the common betrayal. However, there's just something iffy about Alaina to Alex. She seems like she's half with them, half against them. One minute she's with Alex, talking about how much she hates Charlotte and the next she's at a family brunch playing nice with her. Sure, she has the excuse that her brother's an A-lister and she'll always be connected to them, but Alex finds it hard to trust her. There's always that fear that, if given the opportunity, Alaina would betray her and return to that crowd. Alex really just wants to get her to see how terrible those people really are.

A.J. Clarke | The King Bee
""

Malachai "Kai" Walker
PBQy.gif

What can I say, I love people

Ezra Bellamy | The Untouchable One
"Ezra and I go back... I can't really think of a time in my life he hasn't been there."
Kai would consider Ezra his best friend out of the group. Their friendship just runs a little deeper. There are some things that Kai has only ever told Ezra. Out of all his friends, he trusts Ezra the most. If he's looking for someone to hang out with, Ezra is his first choice. Malachai is always ready to step in if he thinks Ezra is going too far. He plays the role of peacekeeper with ease. He's quick to talk Ezra down when he starts getting upset.
AJ Clarke | The King Bee
"A.J.'s my boy, you know?"
Friends since childhood, Kai and A.J. have a classic friendship. They get along well because they never really have issues with each other. A.J. rules over the kingdom and Kai keeps the conflict to a minimum and they just have a good time together. Malachai enjoys parting with A.J., but he knows to keep an eye on him when he drinks a little too much. If things start getting heated, Kai brings a few soothing words and works to extinguish any conflict immediately before it gets the chance to get out of hand.
Sila Karadeniz | The Overachiever
"I was just hanging out with her the other day. She's a lot more fun than you'd imagine, actually."
Though at first they might not really have meshed, with Sila not be amused by Kai hitting on her and all, they did grow close. They duo started hanging out more and more often because Kai was always looking for an excuse to leave the house and apparently, so was she. He considers her one of his closer friends because of the time they spent together.
Katherine Arnault | The Drama Queen
"Talking to Kat is actually one of my favorite hobbies."
Kai never worries about getting bored when he's with her. She always has something interesting to say, if you listen to her. Their friendship is so simple because they have the same lifestyle and worldview. They have no concept of the value or money, but because of that share similar interests and behaviors. If Kai wants someone to just go travel somewhere with him at the drop of a hat, she's his companion. They can go out places and spend money on frivolous things without any judgement from each other.
Charlotte Graff | The Queen Bee
"Of course I love Charlotte, who doesn't?"
Because his friendship is a bit stronger with the King rather than the Queen, he's not as close with her, but Kai has a strong admiration for Charlotte. He enjoys being around people who carry themselves the way that she does. Friendship with her is easy and they get along just fine. Kai is also very proud that he's managed to charm Charlotte's mother into liking him and approving of him as a friend of Charlotte's. She's one of a handful of girls that keep his attention with ease when he's having a conversation with her. He really likes the relationship she and his friend have, makes him think it might even be fun to settle down.

We're friends- sort of?

Charlie Jameson | Class Clown
"Oh, yeah! That guy's really funny. What's his name... Chase? That doesn't sound right...Charles..? No, wait, Charlie, right?"
Kai can appreciate a funny guy who lightens the mood, so he doesn't mind Charlie. However, the blue-eyed boy is hardly a blip on Kai's radar. Their relationship consists of a few bouts of small talk and Kai laughing at Charlie's jokes, but it's very clear that they're not close and that there's a weird distance between them. Kai wouldn't ever think of Charlie as someone who could become an A-Lister, but he wouldn't be above using his own position and his influence to manipulate the naive boy if it benefits him.
Ethan Kings | The Party Animal
"We used to really run the scene back in the day. I don't see him much now."
Back before Ethan's father fell from grace, they were on great terms. They had many of the same interests: women and alcohol. However, continuing to be so close to someone whose family seems involved with shady stuff could hurt Malachai's own reputation, so he hasn't seen Ethan much since. He's happy to say hello at a party or make some small talk, but the distance between them is palpable.
Luna Trevor | The Rebel
"Luna's hot, you really can't blame me, right?"
Luna's a one-night-stand that he doesn't mind seeing around. As he's often at Kat's house, he finds himself prone to bumping into her, one way or another. He's quick with a flash of that smile and a 'hello' when he sees her. He's happy to talk to her at a party, especially if Kat isn't around. He'd be willing to try for another night, but he also knows it's a bad idea to risk Kat finding out about any of it - the headache would be too much to bear.
Alaina Clarke | The Free Spirit
"Of course I'm nice to Alaina - she's A.J.'s sister, after all."
Just like with Luna, Kai likes to use the excuse of "of course I'm being nice to her, she's your sister." Spending time at A.J.'s place means he runs into Alaina often enough and they were vaguely friends since middle school. He sees no reason to dislike her. He does flirt with her if A.J.'s out of an earshot, but he knows she's probably off limits.
I wouldn't say they dislike me- let's be real, who could actually dislike me?

James Mande | The Leader
"Oh, I don't really know anything about him. We don't really run in the same circles."
They've never flat out argued, but they just don't really have the same vibe. They don't get on and James doesn't really get on with most of Kai's friends. If he can avoid speaking to James, he does, but he would never admit to disliking James or anything.

sila karadeniz
relationships

"love is a beautiful kind of fear..."

♕ - close | ♡ - likes | ✿ - neutral | ➳ - dislikes | ◆ - unknown

[ ♕ ] | Charlotte Graff - The Queen Bee
One of her best friends at Constance Billard, Sila is completely loyal to Charlotte. She has immense respect for her and the image she's managed to build for herself, and because the two of them have similar ideals they got along straight away. Despite this, she never feels as if she can truly let her guard down around Charlotte - she knows that she values her for her reliability and squeaky-clean image, so she fears that if she were to lose that she might also lose Charlotte as a friend.

[ ♕ ] | Olivia Blake - The Traitor
Another close friend of hers, Sila quite likes Olivia. She finds her to be friendly and charming, and really enjoys her company. Perhaps because she sees her as lower on the social ladder when compared to, say, Charlotte or Katherine, she feels she can act more 'human' around Olivia. Though she'd never admit to some of her more serious troubles, Sila will occasionally confide in Olivia when it comes to smaller things such as stress over her classes; so in some ways she's actually closer to Olivia than she is to the other girls.

[ ♕ ] | Katherine Arnault - The Drama Queen
A bit of an unlikely friendship, but a solid one nonetheless. Upon meeting her for the first time, Sila was originally a bit taken aback at her entitlement and occasional rude remarks behind others' backs, but as time went on and she got to know the girl better thanks to her relationship with Charlotte, she came to see that she had a very sweet, personable side to her, and that her less favourable behaviour often came down to her simply not knowing any better rather than ill-intent. They still have their differences, with Sila sometimes having to act as the 'mom' friend and tone down Kat's actions a little, but overall she's fond of the girl.

[ ♕ ] | Kai Walker - The Charmer
Their relationship had a bit of a rocky start, with Kai trying to pull his usual moves on Sila when they first met. Though she couldn't deny he was attractive, she was also hyper-aware of his reputation, and wasn't interested in being one of his many flings. Kai seemed to lose interest in the chase after it became clear he wasn't making any progress, and the interactions between the two turned to them hanging out as friends. Recently, with her less than ideal situation at home, the two of them have become a lot closer, as her wanting to be out of the house has led to them spending more and more time together.

[ ♕ ] | Charlie Jameson - The Class Clown
Though not immediately apparent, Sila adores Charlie. The two don't make many public appearances, but as a long-time childhood friend and secret tutor to him, Sila gets a glimpse into some of his insecurities and sees a side to him which is completely different from his usual, goof-ball persona. Because they've known each other for such a long time and he's not an A-lister, Sila feels less pressure to present herself as absolutely perfect around him, and she tends to let her guard down when it's just the two of them.

[ ♡ ] | AJ Clarke - The King Bee
Though they never really hang out one-on-one, Sila sees AJ lots thanks to their similar social circles and her friendship with Charlotte, and she has nothing but good things to say about him. She respects his ambition and will-power, as those are traits they have in common, and she generally gets along with him very well. Even though she can sense things have been a little off recently, she still thinks he's a great match for Charlotte, and she's genuinely rooting for their relationship - though that could change quickly if she were to find out he did something to hurt her friend...

[ ✿ ] | Alex Suarez - The Bully
Sila doesn't have much of an issue with Alex, to be honest. If anything, she actually feels a little sorry for her situation. She personally doesn't see how her sexuality is such a big deal, but ultimately wasn't willing to risk her spot at the top to speak up for her. At the end of the day, Alex isn't really on Sila's radar, and she doesn't give her much of a second thought.

[ ✿ ] | James Mande - The Leader
Another person who doesn't cross her mind very often. Being in separate social worlds, Sila and James don't really cross paths all that much. From what little she's seen of him she thinks he's alright, and she'll still give him a smile and a friendly greeting when she sees him at parties, but aside from that she has little interest in what he gets up to.
