Please post your character sheets here. No specific character sheet or coding is required, but please ensure that whatever you decide is not complicated and difficult to read. We're really looking at the content, not the aesthetics :) Something else to reiterate if you missed it in the OOC: your posting here does not guarantee you a spot. There are no role reservations. Ideally, we would like all roles to be filled, but if there are not strong enough writers for a particular role, we will just make do with what we have! Otherwise, go ahead and include:
  • Name
  • Nicknames
  • Age (the RP will likely begin in September 2019 IC time and the characters will be starting their junior year)
  • Birthday
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Role
  • Personality (3+ paragraphs please!)
  • History (3+ paragraphs please!)
  • Appearance (face claim, height, weight/body build and a physical description if you'd like)
  • Anything else is welcomed, but not required!

[/div][/div] [div class="textcontainer tabsContent tabsContent2" style="display:none;"][div class=text] [div class=tag]persona:[/div] A lot of people claim to be confident but aren't really. They're actors, good at pretending that they don't have a care in the world and that the opinions of others mean little to them. James has his insecurities but confident is a word that really fits who he is. He isn't condescending, he isn't conceited, he isn't loud for the sake of being loud. He's just comfortable with who he is regardless of what other people think of him, and because that self content-ness is something so rarely seen in kids his age, it's a pretty noticeable trait. James was always a grounded and humble kid with simple interests, and while his teachers had always described him as being quite well-adjusted and adaptable, coming to Saint Jude's forced him to embody a whole new level of self-love and appreciation. He knew that if his new peers suspected that he wasn't even convinced he belonged there, that they would eat him alive and he wasn't going to have that. Admittedly, it did take a lot of effort on his part in the beginning to become adjusted with some a different culture than the one he knew, but he got there. He got to a point where being one of the very few black kids in the school, one of the very few kids who didn't have trust funds or personal chauffeurs, and one of the very few kids whose parents actually gave a damn about him, weren't his defining features. He took control of his own image in the school by accepting who he was and refusing to allow anyone else to create his image or label for him.

He isn't big on labels or the level of self-importance that comes with cliques and excluding others, so most people would probably describe James as being friendly and sociable. He tries to be nice to everyone and doesn't take superficial things into consideration when befriending people. In the real world, it's a positive trait, but in his school's world, it sometimes leads to him bumping heads with people. He doesn't like going with the flow just to avoid conflict and he stands by what he thinks is right and speaks up for what he thinks is wrong. Because many people grew up differently than him (even many of his close friends), their differing values do sometimes lead to conflict and James isn't typically the one to back down. In the context of his social life, it's probably one of his biggest flaws. He can be stubborn and while it isn't the everyday side of James people see, he can aggressively harsh when it comes to putting people of privilege in their place. In that sense, he isn't great at seeing things from other people's opinions and in with a lot of people in this context, he struggles to give them the benefit of the doubt. While he is comfortable in his own skin and doesn't seek out the approval of others, it just feels like an unfortunate default that he has to always be on the defense because he knows that no matter what, people will doubt his worth. It sometimes leads him to crossing over onto the offensive side of the playing field if he thinks someone might think themselves to be higher than him.

For the most part though, his reputation is an admirable one. He walks to the beat of his own drum and just tries to have a good time with his friends. If people don't like him, his response is that they can fuck off because he doesn't care and up until now, that's pretty much worked out for him.
[/div][/div] [div class="textcontainer tabsContent tabsContent3" style="display:none;"][div class=text] [div class=tag]history:[/div] Stick a normal kid into the world of money and materialism, and you'd probably assume that he'd be doubting how good his life actually was. Especially during those teenage years, not fitting in is tough, and that's especially true when the contrast in lifestyles are as stark as they are when comparing the gazillionaires that James goes to school with, with his family and their lifestyle. Somehow, J managed to skip that whole "hate my parents for not giving me what everyone else has" phase, and anyone who knows his family knows that that isn't surprising. The Mande family are a close knit bunch, and James' parents, Pierre and Cécile instilled strong moral values and a solid work ethic into their three children throughout their upbringing.

Compared to his peers, James probably seems poor as dirt. Out in the big, bad, scary world where the rest of the 99% of the population lives, his family falls into the middle class. By Manhattan standards, they do... okay for themselves. His mother owns a housekeeping company and his father works for the MTA as a bus driver. They don't try to keep up with people who live in different socioeconomic worlds than them. They're happy with what they have because unlike many of the people that James has befriended at school, he and his family recognize that you need more than money to be happy. Having money makes things easier, but it doesn't replace having values and depth and something to offer the world.

His history may not align with that of many of his peers. He didn't spend his summers in Mykonos or the holidays in Aspen, but he grew up with a supportive family and was taken care of. James never even really realized that people lived substantially better than his family until he started attending Saint Jude's as a freshman.

[div class=tag3]Personality

Alaina has always danced to the beat of her own DIY drum. At her best, she is curious. She loves novelty, learning, and is pretty much always open to trying something at least once. Coupled with her naïveté and ignorance to her she is perceived by others, she rarely ever holds herself back. At her worse, however, she is a defiant rule breaker. It has always been this curious trait of hers that has landed her in trouble time and time again. Typically, it lends itself to her ending up in situations she shouldn't be in, but it also shows itself in her stubborn refusal to entertain anything that doesn't interest her. While she has always been a bright child, behavior was something that was constantly reported on. Alaina is proud, vocal, and passionate, and depending on your relationship with her, this can either mean she is a bullheaded loud mouth, or a spunky girl with a quit wit.

Her bright personality has always had a bright mind to match. While she can certainly seem impulsive, once she's able to keep her attention on something for long enough, her passionate nature is her driving force. It is for these reasons she's excelled in sports and, most notably, the arts. Since these are just standard characteristics of hers, it can easily seem like Alaina's successes come with little effort, and to an extent this is true. While her teachers always tell her she can be a star student if she applied herself a bit more, she isn't a slacker that just gets good grades and high achievements with a flick of the finger.

In more ways than one, what appears on the surface to be her innate stubborn willpower is merely internal frustration. The truth is that for the entirety of her adolescence, she has felt inadequate. She desires to be the person she was growing up, as well as the person people see her to be. The person that doesn't seek approval from outside sources. In taking control of her successes and pushing herself to achieve them, she can then just brush them off as proof to herself that she doesn't need these external sources of validation. On the other side of the coin, though, this premeditated energy naturally leaves her wound up physically and emotionally. What once started as a couple of dark moments in middle school eventually became a full eating disorder that she has managed to keep a secret. [/div][/div] [div class="tabContents tabContents05"]
[div class=tag3]biography

Both of her parents being legacies to the girl's and boy's school, they met when they were teenagers. Her mother, not unlike the other kids, was of an extremely wealthy family. Her father, on the other hand, didn't have such a fortunate background, and instead attended the boy's school after receiving an academic scholarship.. Alaina Raine Clarke is the third child of the the Clarke household, behind her older sister and twin brother.

The Clarke children grew up less flamboyantly compared to their peers--'compared to' being the key term. While Alaina did not grow up being raised by nannies with twenty-four-size on-call staff, weekday personal chefs, twice weekly housekeepers, multiple vacationing homes (mostly thanks to her mother's superfluous background), and many summer stays in Europe were of no mystery to her. Nevertheless, her parents, especially her father, always stressed the importance of gratitude, humility, and hard work, but thanks to her mother's inherited standard of living and her father wanting his kids to have more than he did, the children were still spoiled greatly. If nothing spoke to that, then Alaina's multiple costly, albeit short-lived, endeavors such as horseback riding, skiing, scuba diving, and astronomy certainly did.

While she is not unfamiliar with the word no, she still had far more than the average kid her age. Despite this, Alaina also had more responsibilities and expectations than the average kid in her social atmosphere. While she grew up with house staff, if she refused to clean her room, her parents would ensure that the housekeepers skipped over cleaning it. She still had chores to complete, rules and curfews to abide by, and being punished for misbehaving were just as normal to her as a last minute trip to Mykonos with mom and sister.

Having always been a 'unique' child, as her parents would describe it, Alaina also had a strong bout of naïveté. Often times, she was clueless to how she was perceived by other girls, and had a tendency to think she had more friends than she actually did. Thanks to her brother's genuine popularity, though, she was unknowingly humored until she got to middle school and began to become privy to things. There was a brief time when Alaina desired to fit in if for no other reason than no longer wanting to stand out, and so she continued to keep the so-called friends who weren't around her for genuine reasons. By the time she entered high school, though, things turned back around. She went back to being unapologetically curious and standing by her principles, even if it meant there were consequences behind it. She doesn't intentionally seek out trouble, nor does she make it a point to break the rules just for the sake of breaking them, but she doesn't fault those who do, and if the opportunity presents itself, she's not one to always say no. Even if he had generations worth of wealth to fall back on, there was a certain amount of confidence that money could not buy, and Ezra had that. His self-confident and assertive nature surely came from the nurture he received from his father, but their was a charm about him that could not be taught. As a child, he'd always been praised for being decisive and resourceful, for being a leader among his peers. He never backed down from a challenge if for no other reason than to be in control of a situation and to assert his power. On the other hand, he was also criticized for being domineering, temperamental, and confrontational. His willingness to take look often times turned into a tendency to be to self-reliant. As he got older, these weaker traits became more controlled, but they never truly went away. It was simply that he learned to utilize them to his benefit instead of in a juvenile way through tantrums and complaining. While he still dominated any environment he stepped foot in and never shied away from confrontation, he could utilize that intimidation into persuasion.

He has always had an enormous amount of willpower and vitality, whether for good or bad, and it has enabled him to not only leave his mark on his environment, but also to be in control of it so that it couldn't cause harm to him or those he cares about. Being hurt is one of his greatest, perhaps his only, fear. It isn't because he's afraid of physical or emotional pain. It is due to his disdain for being disempowered. Because of this, he is extraordinarily tough, and his willingness to take risks head on is less of a desire to be impulsive, but more of a need to to overcome anything that comes his way.

His strength and endurance are certainly admirable, and at his best, he can be quite charismatic magnamanious. On the other hand, this also lends him to utilizing that power and tenacity towards constructing and defending his ego. He absolutely refuses to fail at anything, and he is potently protective over everyone and everything he cares about, and takes it as a personal offense when these things are jeopardized. It's not to say that he is blindly loyal, as he views the world as purely transactional, and his only priorities are himself and his possessions. However, while he is with you, he is with you through and through so long as you don't make him change his mind. Should anyone try to relinquish his control, he is always sure to double down tenfold, even if it is in the slightest or most unintentional way. That one of his closest friends angered him in front of their peers in middle school, only to transfer schools by the end of the week, was no coincidence.

He isn't a stoic stick-in-the-mud that is only concerned about staying in control of people and things. In fact, it is quite the opposite. That control and possession is so innately his in his mind, that he doesn't need to give it a second thought. For that reason, he spends most of his time doing as he pleases and having a good time while doing it. He typically does this by completely disregarding any boundaries or societal expectations that are in place if for no other reason than to inflate his ego anymore. He certainly isn't lacking in self-awareness when it comes to how others view him. He's keenly aware, but given that no one's opinions are of any value to him, and because his say is always the final say, he doesn't let this insight impact him. [div class=tag3]biography

Benjamin Ezra Bellamy, while two months premature, was the first born child after a handful of miscarriages. His birth at Cornell was not merely a venture to ensure that his parents had the safest delivery for their child after years of anguish and loss; in fact, it was really a representation of their socioeconomic position in society. He was a blend of old money and new. His mother, Amelia Louise Bellamy (neé Rothschild), was a descendant of the Jewish noble banking family's British branch. His real estate mogul father, Oliver Edison Bellamy, did not come from such a long and vast line of wealth as Ezra's mother, but being that Oliver's family had successful endeavors in the mining industry, he was no stranger to comfort living himself. While turning his first profit at twenty-two seemed to be standard in comparison to his family line, his accomplishments launching him into being a self-made billionaire was unique to them all.

Compared to his peers, his parents were quite loving and attentive in the beginning. His mother was still left alone for stretches of time while his father was off doing business, but given the obstacles they faced to even have Ezra, it was unsurprising that they were parental outliers in some ways. The outliers did not stop here though. It was during his earliest developmental years when his mother seemingly changed. After multiple close class with her life after trying various antidepressants, they swore off that route altogether. This seemed fine, though, because while these depressive symptoms were deep, they were also seemingly short-lived too, and Amelia would be brighter than ever, until, she wasn't.

If this had happened twenty years later, perhaps the outcome would have been different, as the stigma and understanding around mental health, especially mental health in women, would have been far more developed. As it was still just the turn of the millenium, alarm bells didn't begin to sound until repeated incidents involving Ezra occurred. There had always been smaller incidents since he was a baby, but they were easily dismissed. After disappearing in the middle of the night to take a trip to the park, or disappearing for two weeks after a last minute decision to go to Europe with her son, tensions within the household grew until his father refused to have her around their son without his presence. Still, Amelia found a way, and it ended up with her in the hospital along with her son. Fortunately, the tot survived the accident, and as far as he knew, he never saw his mother again.

The rest of his life was far more precedented. His father was more affected by the events with Amelia than Ezra was, but any distraught he might have felt was filled by being catered to by his staff and nannies. His father was gone more than before, and turned a lot colder, so Ezra had even more freedom and lack of boundaries than he would have otherwise. If he wanted to go to the movies for the third time that day, or if he wanted to go to Toys R' Us and buy an entire shelf worth of toys, he was never refused. If, however, he did come across a staff member that angered him, he quickly learned that a quick complaint to his father would solve the problem.

While his father did not do much in the way of childrearing, he certainly still had an impact on him. When he wasn't being spoiled by his staff, his father was reenforcing the values that created the egotistical person Ezra was today. As his father's financial successes grew, so did his own arrogance, and Ezra learned from that. Everything that belonged to his father, also belonged to Ezra. But while this was the case, there was still a finite amount of power in this world, and people were always after power. As such, people were always in search of your downfall. As such, Ezra always moves on the defense. This was his city after all, and as far as he was concerned, it was more than within his right to protect what was his. [div class=tag]personality
If you asked Charlotte for honest advice on how to get where or what they wanted, she would advise them that they should never act like they want it, but rather, act like they already have it. Confidence is the character trait that she deems most important for being successful in any aspect of life, because if you can convince everyone else that you know what you're doing, then you're already halfway there. It's a trait that she has embraced throughout her life, and though she firmly believes that she has an array of other positive character traits to back up where she is currently in life, she still believes that the confidence she exudes has done her well. It allows her to carry herself in a way that suggests that she absolutely does not take the opinion of others into consideration, because her opinion is the only one that is meaningful. While carrying herself in this manner has allowed her to be recognized as a strong and powerful individual, it has its flaws too. Declaring herself as being untouchable means that she can be opinionated, manipulative, and unable to take criticism. Many interpret her confidence as arrogance, though she doesn't think that there is anything wrong with knowing and acknowledging that she's the most popular girl in school. In her eyes, it would be entirely idiotic to be humble and pretend like she doesn't realize the power she has in her position on the social ladder. It was that desire for power that motivated her to get to where she is.

"Love me or hate me, it's still an obsession" might as well be her slogan, and love her or hate her, you have to admit that Charlotte makes a quintessential Queen Bee. She's poised, proper, and in many regards, perfect... or so it seems. She is an expert at putting on a pretty face and charming people when she wants to. She's a perfectionist and excels at making a good impression, and she is skilled at reading people to determine what they do and do not want. Just as quickly as she can turn on the charm and friendliness, though, she can turn it off. She is known for having a cold and vengeful side, sometimes to the point of being cruel, when she feels like she has been crossed. She takes pride in her reputation and is easily offended, and when she feels like she has been wronged, it is not uncommon for her to respond in an excessive manner to ensure that that person never tries her again. It is worth noting, however, that Charlotte isn't a bully. While she values exclusivity, since that is what allows her to be viewed as being better than others, she doesn't sneer at kids who are less popular, unless they do something to provoke it. She likely would not go out of her way to associate with them unless they had something she wanted, but she only ruins the lives of the people who deserve it.

She maintains an enviable reputation to the public, but there are a few friends who know a softer side of Charlotte. She is loyal and protective of those closest to her. While she hates dropping her guard for anyone, including her friends, they're the ones who see that she is human and does have insecurities. They recognize that she's more sensitive than she shows, and that having to be perfect all of the time takes a toll on her emotionally every now and then.

[div class=tag]background
Charlotte was born in London, England to Francois and Elizabeth Graff. Her father came from a diamond dynasty, currently acting as the CEO to the empire his father founded, while her mother is a descendant of the Rockefeller family, and she currently owns her own fashion line. Charlotte is an only child, and she spent the first four years of her life in London, before relocating to New York City. Her parents had spent a great deal of time in the city prior to moving, not only for business, but also because it was where Elizabeth was from, so the transition from one big city to another was easy for them, and for Charlotte as well. She was just a toddler then so she had little say in the matter anyway, but because her parents were such well-connected individuals, it didn't take long for them to thrust their daughter into the social circles of other young, privileged children, and for her to make friends.

Because her mother had attended Constance Billard and its reputation remained just as prestigious as it had back then, it was only fitting that Charlotte was sent there too, as early as kindergarten. It was probably here that the perfectionist in her was born. It started by her mother consistently reminding her that she had a legacy to maintain at Constance Billard, and that Charlotte needed to live up to the standards that she had set in place. She had to get flawless grades, be well liked among peers, participate in extracurricular activities. If she received anything less than a perfect score on her exam, her mother wanted to know why. If word got around that another child was throwing a birthday party that Charlotte wasn't invited to, her mother wanted to know why. If Charlotte didn't want to practice ballet or learn how to play the piano like her mother did, she wanted to know why. Elizabeth wasn't even a helicopter parent, and it couldn't be said that she was more involved in her child's life than so many other upper class parents, because she wasn't. Charlotte was still primarily taken care of by nannies. They were the ones who cared for her in the everyday sense, making sure that she was read a story before bed and tucked in tightly, or that she received the help she needed with her homework, or that she received hugs and kisses after falling off of her bike and scraping her knee. Her mother cared about the things that involved Charlotte and their family's image. She wanted the finished product of a perfect child and expected that, but didn't intend on putting in any work to get Charlotte there herself. Luckily, Charlotte was a smart and determined child in her own right. Granted, had her mother not hyper-focused on her shortcomings, it's quite possible that Charlotte never would have grown into the perfectionist that she is today, but either way, she still probably would have been just as smart and capable of succeeding in many different areas of life.

Her mother's insistence on her mingling with the right kids is what set Charlotte up on the path to becoming Queen Bee. From childhood, she knew what was "cool" and what wasn't, and she was raised to believe that people who didn't adhere to what she believed was cool and socially acceptable were weird and deserved to be outcasted. Going as far back as she can remember, Charlotte has always embraced the "leader" role in her friend group. What began as her mother's interest in her daughter being a part of the popular and elite crowd has led to Charlotte realizing that having her own crowd allows her to control something in her life. Her mother's domineering and critical attitude leaves little room for mistakes at home, but leading a group of peers allows Charlotte a similar level of control and power over other people, since she sometimes feels like she lacks that same control over herself and her own image.

Katherine never felt the need to break out of that trust fund baby mold. She comes from wealth and realized that at an early age, and isn't afraid to embrace, and sometimes even flaunt it. She's that girl who you can tell, only by one short conversation with her, that she's never had to work a day in her life, is oblivious to many "real world" problems, and probably will never work half as hard as other people work in a year, in her entire lifetime. She has daddy funding her credit card with a seemingly unlimited pile of money at the other end, and never hesitates to splurge on a new pair of designer boots that she just has to have. If her siblings weren't ambitious or at least grounded in their own right, maybe it would be harder to blame her for that, because it could just be blamed on her upbringing. You could brush off her selfish, materialistic ways with her just being raised poorly, and her parents allowing her to believe that money and "things" were the most important things in the world. Her older half-siblings aren't like that though, which definitely alienates Katherine as the "brat" of the family. Although she is obsessed with having the newest and nicest everything, shopping has become more than just getting new things for Katherine. It's therapeutic for her, a way to distract herself from any problems or stress going on in her life. Though it's helping in the short term, it's apparent that her reckless spending habits keep her distanced from the real world. It might not be something that is apparent to those in her inner circle who are very similar to her financially, but to an average Joe, it would be very clear that Katherine is fairly delusional. Maybe everyone who lives a life of such privilege is, to some extent, but when she has a fit over not being able to take some international vacation or buy a ridiculously expensive new dress, she actually thinks it's as much of an injustice as someone being deprived of their basic human rights.

She can be shallow, often judging people based on their appearance and the little information that she's heard about them through gossip. While she probably would talk about them behind their back, she wouldn't normally bully or taunt anyone to their face. She claims that it's okay to be a bitch, but not to be mean, and when it comes to gossip, she's more of a follower than the mastermind behind it. Although she doesn't mind contributing to the rumors circulating about other people, she does become very emotional when ones start spreading about her. She's sensitive to criticism and is usually the girl who ends up hysterically crying about a problems from months ago after a night of drinking. Her biggest insecurity is her weight. She was diagnosed with an eating disorder when she was thirteen, and although she recognizes that she's statistically underweight, it doesn't change the way that she feels about her body. This is one more reason for why she tends to get away with her behavior in her family. She was always seen as the weak one, in a sense... the one who needed that extra attention, who needed to be "handled with care" and looked after just a bit more than the others. Claiming that her parents developed a soft spot for her that they didn't give to the other children probably isn't accurate, but it's worth noting that both of her parents realized early on that Kat was sensitive, and therefore, they did their best to offer her a little bit more wiggle room than the others.

Despite the flaws, Kat is loyal to her friends. She's affectionate, reliable and warm, but her impulsive and absentmindedness can sometimes get the best of her. When she's in a moment of gossiping and isn't thinking thoroughly, she's known to accidentally air her friend's secrets to other people, without even realizing that there's anything wrong with that. In almost every area of her life, it's clear that Kat is impulsive. Whether it's buying thousands of dollars worth of clothes that she has no intention of ever wearing, or drinking herself into a blackout state, it's hard for her to control herself when she's in the mood to indulge in something. She can be reckless and make stupid choices, but her friends can all agree that she's always a fun person to have around. She's spontaneous, bold and energetic, always being up for a night out or an adventure.

[div class=textcontainter][div class=header]History

Bernard Arnault, the French business magnate, investor and art collector, heads the Arnault family, and is Katherine’s father. His most notable role is the position that he has held since 1989, acting as the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVMH. Long before Katherine was born, however, Bernard was in a marriage that produced four children. Following his divorce from this wife, he spent some years dating and returning his focus to his business.

In 1999, he met Jacqueline McEnroe, a young artist who was living in New York City at the time. The two began dating, wed a year later, and a few years after that, they conceived a child, Katherine. A year later, when Kat was just a few months old, the couple the couple divorced. Bernard's work often left him traveling out of the country, and Jacqueline was young, with a career in music that was just taking off. She didn't want to be at home raising a baby any more than he did. When she was offered a seat in the Chicago Symphony, a position that would require her to spend a few months a year in Europe, she couldn't say no. Bernard was given primary custody of Katherine, and though her mother spent most of her time with her when she was not overseas for work, Katherine was primarily raised by nannies. Bernard was living in the same house as her for most of her youth (though he was frequently making business trips back to Paris), but it wasn't until he remarried when Katherine was twelve that he really seemed to settle down and try to be a dad.

In recent years, he's been relinquishing some of the control of his business to the children of his first marriage, who are all adults by now, and in turn, he's been able to spend more time trying to parent. Then again, wanting to spend more time with his family is what he claims was the reason he's slowly backing away from work. Kat is convinced that it's only because his manipulative wife needs him around, and not because he really cares about his kid.

From an outside perspective, though, Kat’s childhood was something that people dream about, despite how she complained throughout much of it. Her family was as financially secure as they came, and no wishes were too big to be granted. She has attended Constance Billard since she was a child, and she thrives there, at least socially speaking. She doesn't do quite as well academically, but as a child, it genuinely had to do with her struggling to learn at the rate of her peers, and just not being intelligent enough to keep up with her classmates. As she grew older, her own tendency to neglect school work played a role in it too. Her biggest (and possibly only) life issue came in the form of developing an eating disorder when she hit her teenage years. It wasn't something that came on suddenly and strongly, but something that she developed slowly over time. It hit its most dramatic peak this past spring, when she was eating only a couple hundred calories a day, and had fainted twice in school, before her father truly acknowledged that something was wrong. Without warning her, she was forced into a residential treatment facility over the summer, and only recently returned to New York before the start of her senior year.

Luna is known for her rebellious ways, and it doesn't really bother her. She would never label herself as being a rebel specifically, because she just sees this as being her natural personality. She doesn't feel like she purposely defies social standards to be "rebellious". She simply does what she wants, when she wants, without ever really thinking about the consequences of her actions. If anything, Luna would admit that she's wild. She's reckless and impulsive and is a big believer of living in the moment. She always puts herself first and focuses on making herself happy. Some consider it to be selfish behavior, but she just doesn't believe that she owes it to anyone to spend her time and energy taking care of them before taking care of herself. Oftentimes, the things that she does probably makes her seem dumb because she doesn't think a lot of them through in a long-term sense. In reality though, she has always been a bright girl when it comes to academics. It's probably one of the only things that has allowed her to remain at Constance Billard (and within the realm of her parents good graces), because it's hard to hate someone for skipping class when they still manage to get A's on every assignment, whether they were there to learn it or not. She was blessed with natural intelligence, and though she may not necessarily lack common sense, she oftentimes ignores it in favor of excitement.

If you can stand her crude and sarcastic sense of humor, Luna is fun to be around and always interested in having a good time. Her sense of humor and personality isn't for everyone, though. She can definitely come off as being abrasive, insensitive, and sometimes downright offensive when she's joking. She dislikes sugarcoating things but often crosses the line between being honest and being cruel in the name of being honest. Her tendency to joke around and embrace dark humor has, in a sense, allowed her to avoid deeper topics. She dislikes showing real emotion or seeming vulnerable, and she definitely is not a romantic of any sort. She's outgoing and unpredictable, merely hoping that her wild actions never catch up to her.

[/div][/div]

Luna's childhood was pretty normal. She was born in New York and raised by a single mother. For the first few years of her life, her father was in and out of the picture. He had an opioid addiction stemming from a surgery he had to get in his early twenties, and it changed the man that her mother had once loved. At one point, he had been her mother's college sweetheart, and on track to become a successful businessman. A few years later, he was nothing short of a junkie who had been cut off by his family for stealing money and things to sell for money to keep up with his addiction. Luna's mother had planned on marrying him, but she slowly learned that the man she had loved no longer existed, and when Luna was five years old, he was arrested for the third time. This time was different though, because instead of being sent to the county jail for a few weeks until he could post bail, he was sentenced to prison. He spent eight years locked up, and though he attempted to reach out to Luna's mother after being released, she wanted no part in it. Luna knows little about her father and has no interest in learning more. Her mother was the only person who raised her, and though she isn't always appreciative of how hard her mother worked to give her a good life, she knows she's lucky to have her.

Her mother went to college with the intent of studying medicine, but never went to med school after finishing her undergrad degree. Instead, she defied her parents wishes and decided to go to culinary school. Her parents were not wealthy, and financially, it seemed idiotic to go into such a field when she was smart enough to become a doctor, but food was her passion. By the time that she had Luna, she was still struggling to get her career off the ground. She was working at a bakery and a restaurant, averaging around sixty hours a week and relying on her parents to help care for Luna while she worked. By the time that Luna was in kindergarten, though, her mother had secured a job as a general manager of a bakery and around her eleventh birthday, she took a chance and opened up her own bakery in midtown. It was a tiny little place but because she specialized in vegan desserts, it took off. They still were not wealthy by Manhattan terms, but for once, they were doing okay for themselves. Luna was accepted into Constance Billard at the start of middle school, and though they still relied on scholarships to get her through, it seemed like things couldn't get better for them.

That was the year of change, though. It was the year that her mother's business took off, but it was also the year that she started dating a man who had apparently taken a liking to her after catering her desserts to one of his parties. Luna didn't understand why her mother was infatuated by a man twenty years her senior, but she was, and before she knew it, they were getting married. Luna never really opposed the marraige. Bernard Arnault has always been a good stepfather to her, because he never crossed too many boundaries. He was (and is) a good man, in her eyes. His daughter... well, that was another story. Adjusting to living with Katherine Arnault was a nightmare in itself, and though Luna always had a little spark in her that made her a wild child, it grew tremendously when she realized that Kat was so obnoxious and annoying that the only way she would survive and have fun at home was by purposefully being an ass to get a reaction out of the girl. Seeing how fun being bad and breaking the rules was became addicting, and before she knew it, she was on a rebellious streak that she couldn't stop.

ME

- get deeper -
bio
:
tl;dr: Alexandra grew up in a rich household comprised of her Spanish father, American mother, and the brother whose shadow she could never get out of. She was raised Catholic, but lacks faith. When she starts liking girls in middle school, she keeps quiet until eventually telling the Queen Bee, who in turn told everyone else. She was ostracized by everyone from her classmates to her father. After a summer at conversion camp, she rebranded herself as Alex and started hurting other people before they could hurt her. Rather than be bullied, she became a bit of a bully because of her preventative behaviors.
- the long version -
To understand Alex's upbringing, you first have to understand who here parents are. If you're anyone important, their names should ring a bell: Artemio Suarez and his wife, Helena Suarez. Artemio came from a family of wealthy bankers in Spain. He was the firstborn, the pride and joy of his parents. He attended Universitat de Barcelona, where he met Helena while she was in an exchange program. They entered a whirlwind romance that they love to recount. It didn't take long to establish themselves as a power couple. Soon after graduation, they climbed the ladders of their careers at a surprising pace with the help of their massive networks of connections. Helena came from a long line of real estate developers and followed in their footsteps. Artemio, to please the woman he loved, took his family's banking and expanded it into the United States so that they could live there. However, so as to not lose his roots, trips back to Spain were commonplace. While in the states, he joined Helena's extensive network with his own, working to create international business opportunities while making a name for himself in the world of the wealthy. A charmer at his core, Artemio reveled in the luxurious banquets, exclusive dinners, and clandestine meetings.

A year or two into their marriage, they had their first child: Gabriel Suarez. A year later, they had their second: Alexandra Suarez. It was the perfect little Suarez family, nuclear to a fault. They raised their children to be disciplined. There was no room for laziness or mediocrity. They were always striving to be at the top, to hold the most influence, to . Gabriel embodied these ideas perfectly. Alexandra lived in his shadow. It seemed no matter how hard she worked, she couldn't do as well as him. If Alexandra comes home with straight A's, Gabriel comes home with A+'s. Alexandra making captain of her soccer team paled in comparison to Gabriel being a three sport athlete with multiple leadership positions. It felt impossible to catch up. It's hard to be better than perfect. It seemed the only thing her parents could be proud of was how she managed to work her way into the top of the social pyramid, even becoming close friends with the Queen Bee. By doing this, it brought her parents into connection with the Queen Bee's and Alexandra felt as if she was finally doing something her brother couldn't.

In the Suarez family, Catholicism was a nonnegotiable part of life. Shortly after Gabriel and Alexandra were born, they were baptized; at 13, confirmed. In between, Easter and Christmas were of high importance, with a few Saint-related celebrations sprinkled in between. With their busy work schedules, it was impossible for Helena and Artemio to take their children to church every Sunday, but they made sure to do it at least once a month. When they couldn't attend, they would send their children with a nanny to supervise them. There was never a valid excuse to miss it as far as Artemio was concerned and he wouldn't take any arguments. Although Catholicism was woven into her life, Alexandra often found herself unsure of her faith as she started growing up. It took a turn for the worse during middle school, when she started seeing girls a little differently. She felt drawn to them, but passed this off as just admiring people she really wanted to befriend. Gradually, the thoughts became more commonplace and she couldn't shake them. Something must have been wrong with her. No one else she knew was having those kinds of thoughts, as far as she knew - she was much too scared to ask.

During the 8th grade, Alexandra started to crack. All of her friends would gossip about the cute boys they were kissing. Alex spun tales of lascivious endeavors that her friends ate up. In reality, she'd spent a week overthinking a smile and wave given to her by a pretty girl in her Biology class. Each day felt harder than the last; she felt like she was drowning and wouldn't be able to hold her breath much longer. So, she decided to confide in someone: and who better than the person she felt closest to, the Queen Bee? The reaction was possibly the worst thing she'd ever experienced. At first, she thought everything was going to be okay. The next day, it seemed that everyone knew. In the locker room, girls gave her dirty looks. Boys made jokes that she liked girls because she looked like a guy - which instantly made her insecure about her body. People started avoiding her like she was diseased. For the rest of the year, she ate lunch in the nurse's office and stopped talking to people. To make matters worse, word quickly got back to her parents who had never been more disappointed in her. Her father can hardly look at her. Her mother tries to fix her. They decided to send her to a conversion camp over the summer. Unfortunately for them, it didn't change anything, it just made Alexandra resent them.

So, coming back to highschool, Alexandra rebranded herself down to her name - which was, from then on, Alex. Instead of being the doormat that got bullied, she shot first and asked questions later. Armed with a sharp tongue and a fear of being hurt again, Alex was not the type to mess with. She starts calling people out on their bullshit, tired of people putting on airs. In a school full of people who only care about the reputations they built for themselves, Alex relished tearing them down. She had nothing to fear as far as retaliation went because what were they gonna do, make her life worse? As if they could! She wasn't nearly as bad as gossip girl, but if she saw Jane Prichett talking about her summer in Bolivia helping Habitat for Humanity and patting herself on the back for her kind acts, Alex wouldn't hesitate to loudly mention that taking pictures with poor people and then partying and doing coke wasn't humanitarian work. Getting rid of the stares was easy - all she had to do was snap, "what are you looking at?" or "you got a staring problem or something?" Over the last couple years, a few people have managed to weather the storm of sarcasm and get to know her personally, so she does have a few friends, but she finds it difficult to fully trust anyone. As for her love life... it's hard being the only out girl at an all girl's school, to say the least.

TO THE

- who are you? -
"I don't care about what people here think. They don't do it often."

Sharp-tongued and sarcastic, Alex exudes a vibe of 'don't bother me'. To her, it's a defense mechanism. She pushes people away and scares them before they can even think of hurting her. She hardly has a nice word to say about anyone or anything. The time for playing nice and maintaining peace is long past her. Nowadays, she couldn't care less about what everyone's thinking or saying about her. She's heard it all before and, though she hates the lies people make up about her, she tries not to get upset by it anymore. She's built up her emotional callouses by now; people will have to think of new things to say if they really want to hurt her.

"Maybe Gossip Girl will do me a favor and take some of those A-listers out so I don't have to."
If her family taught her anything, it's that trust is not the same once it's broken. When she cares for someone, she's ready to bite the bullet with no hesitation. She'll take their secrets to the grave, protect them as if they're her own. But once betrayed, this all shatters. If you break her heart like this, the relationship won't recover. Why? Because Alex lacks the capacity to forgive and forget. She's a grudge holder at heart. She'll stew over issues for days, looking at them at every angle, trying to figure out where she went wrong and how she should've seen it coming. She'll take any little opportunity for revenge until the hole you've left is filled. This is what happens when she's hurt. It's cold and drawn out. Her anger, on the other hand, is hot and fast. If you manage to rile her up, she escalates fast. She'll hit you with mean, hateful words dripping in spite. If things go far enough, she's not above getting physical. Usually, this anger doesn't last very long.

"Roses are red, violets are blue, please help me with my book report, I promise I'll owe you."
With her friends, Alex is a little less guarded. She's willing to joke around with them because she knows they won't take her sarcasm to heart. It's hard for her to trust others, so if you do manage to get close to her, you know you've done well. She's always willing to help them with whatever they need. You failed your math test and the retake's tomorrow? She'll help you cram. You have a huge interview tomorrow? She'll drill questions with you until the answers are reflexes. Your not boyfriend started dating that stupid wannabe? Open the door, she's coming in with ice cream and a few choice words. However, this behavior is reserved to a very select few. For the average person, she wouldn't bat an eye. Because she's so willing to help them, she doesn't feel awkward asking them for assistance when she needs it, usually with school stuff.

"I know, I know, I know. But c'mon, you gotta trust me on this one!"
When an idea comes to her, she has to execute it. She's a poor planner and rarely sees how things could go wrong for her. Impulsivity is second nature to her. If she's swept up in some strong ideas or emotions, she goes for it without thinking. It's led to both fantastic and horrific outcomes. It could be a last minute decision that she and a friend NEED to go to a party or accidentally getting into a fight because she misheard what someone said or even deciding that she has to go commit some kind of prank on an A-lister to make their lives a little harder. She'll rarely admit her own mistakes - she's got too much pride for that. Instead, she just tries to shuffle blame and minimize the importance of her wrongdoings.

"Yeah, whatever. Just tell me what you want and I'll get it done."
In any team based work setting, Alex refuses to let anyone down. Say what you will about her, but you cannot call her lazy or unreliable. She may not be good at working with others, but if she has a responsibility towards something, she will get it done. School is something she's generally been good at - she's a smart girl who just doesn't always love applying herself when it comes to her independent work. But when it comes to something where other people's grades are at stake or they're relying on her to contribute, she never falters. This way, no one can blame her for their shortcomings. This applies to all forms of obligations and agreements, not just schoolwork.

WOLVES.

- additional info -
favorite food:

pisto : a popular, authentic side dish from spain, sort of like ratatouille with a fried egg on top. call it a side dish, but alex could eat it as her whole meal. her father would make it to accompany special dinners, like on christmas eve. when she was little, he would teach her how to make it.
favorite drink:
hot tea : she's not a coffee type and hot chocolate's a little sweet for her, so she opts for tea as a substitute. she starts every morning with a cup before she has to face the day. she experiments with the flavors.
love language:
acts of service: whether it's bringing a friend an extra coffee on a tough day, or helping them study for a test, alex tries to make the lives of those she loves a little easier.
skills:
- math : most people hate it, but alex has always had a knack for it. she's always ahead in her math classes and would tutor younger kids over the summer.
- soccer : she's been playing since she was young, but hasn't since high school started because the team doesn't really like her. she still has a lot of the skills and misses playing. she joins club teams outside of the city during the summer.
- cooking : when she was little, her dad would cook with her. now, she cooks all her meals for herself. her brother's off at college, and her parents don't interact with her, so she makes what she wants.
weaknesses:
- english : please please please don't ask her to read a book. she just doesn't have the attention span for it. writing essays? the bane of her existence. she barely scrapes by.
- punctuality / time management : she's not sure how she does it, but she always manages to lose track of time. she's often late to meetings, classes, and appointments. her friends know not to expect her on time - some of them tell her the meeting's five minutes earlier than it actually is so she shows up on time.
horror films : she can watch all the thrillers in the world, but when it comes to actual horror - ghosts, demons, mysteries, gore, the supernatural - she hides under the blanket and asks someone to tell her when the scene's over. the tough exterior really crumbles
fears:
betrayal, complete isolation
sins, secrets:
she's hooked up with a couple of the girls at the school, but she knows the pain of getting outed, so she keeps the secret to herself.

WAS MADE

- get deeper -
bio
:
tl;dr : This poor little rich boy just wants love and attention, but his parents rarely give him either. Their marriage was crumbling, but they stayed together for appearances. They fought constantly and cheated on each other. There were several times where his mother threatened to leave his father, took Malachai with her, and came back a few days later. As he grew up, Malachai became disillusioned with love. However, he did understand the importance of appearances. His parents would start taking him to events with them and he'd charm the crowds. Once he hit high school, he used the same acts and charms on his classmates, leading him to the most popular clique. With time, he garnered himself a reputation for being a bit of a heartthrob, but rarely committed to anything.

- the long story -
In Malachai's story, there's always been a disconnect between himself and his parents. Maybe it boils down to different love languages - his parents' being gifts, his being quality time. Being an only child, you'd think he'd get spoiled and he was. As a child, his parents bought him every toy he pointed at without so much as a bat of an eye. They let him really do what he wanted. Karate lessons one week? Sure. He gives up and wants to try baseball? Okay. The world was at his fingertips. What made this all possible was the success of his family: his father, Arthur Walker, was a partner at a massive accounting firm, his mother, Sarah Walker, just came from old money. At a glance, everything was perfect about the little family; you could put a bow on it. However, like in so many cases, if you just look a little closer, the cracks become obvious. His parents' marriage had, since a couple of years after his birth, started to deteriorate. His father started spending longer and longer hours at work and distancing himself from his wife. His mother felt stuck in a loveless marriage. Divorce was not an option - they didn't want to look bad.

His young childhood was littered with memories of his parents getting in shouting matches while Malachai was supposed to be asleep. Of course, what five year old could sleep through that kind of noise? He'd crawl out of bed, careful not to make a sound, and press his ear to the door. His mother would say things like, "And I know you're sleeping with that whore secretary of yours!" and his father would respond with, "Sarah, you're acting like a crazy bitch." Though he may not have understood some of the words, they way they spoke to each other was so hateful that he hardly had to guess. When it finally ended with his father slamming the door to his office and his mother heaving with sobs, Malachai would quickly get back into bed and pretend to be asleep. Once she composed herself, Sarah Walker would enter her son's room and give him a kiss on the forehead and make sure he was safe under the covers. The next morning, everyone acted as if nothing had happened the night before. Throughout this time in his life, the only time he saw his parents look like they were in love was when other people were around. Because of this, Kai found a love for having guests over - it was the only time he felt like his family was okay.

Unfortunately, the sense of okayness was always fleeting. When he was seven years old, it happened for the first time. His mother, after one of the worst fights, ended the night swearing up and down that she was leaving her husband. She marched up to her room and threw some clothes in a large designer tote, then went to Malachai's room and gently woke him up - of course, Malachai was always only pretending to be asleep. As she grabbed his little backpack and started filling it with clothes and toys, she told her son that they were going on a little trip. Her tone of voice, fragile but insistent, left little room for argument. So, a little before midnight, Sarah's sleek Audi pulled out of their long driveway, her little boy confused and a bit scared in the backseat. They drove for so long that he eventually fell back asleep, no sound between them except the soft hum of the radio. The next morning, he woke up in his grandparents' house in the room he usually stayed at. He cautiously walked downstairs where he'd heard his mother and grandmother's voices. He couldn't make out much except that his grandmother told his mother she wouldn't be supporting this kind of behavior and that she'd be sending them home before lunch. The conversation ended after that when he stepped into the room. His grandmother's face broke into a smile and she asked him if he'd like some pancakes. His mother's eyes were sad, but she made the effort to smile. Just as he'd heard, they went back home around noon. On the way back, his mother asked him if he was hungry. He was, so they stopped at McDonalds. His mother bought him a happy meal as a treat. Having never had fast food before, Malachai was enamoured.

The same chain of events repeated themselves several times from ages five to eleven. Each time, they'd leave in the middle of the night and get sent back. On the way back, Sarah Walker would buy McDonalds lunch for her son, who seemed to enjoy it. It was the least she could do for what she put him through. His father never made any mention of it. He was usually at work when they came back, anyway. As he entered middle school and became a bit too old for these tactics, his mother worked at having better coping mechanisms. If you could even call it that. She began spending more and more time at the local exclusive country club and started having affairs with the attractive pool boys. If her husband could play at this game, so could she. Of course, she always made sure they kept quiet; it'd be rather unseemly if it got out, after all. As he grew older, his parents started taking him to social events, showing off their pride and job. Kai was a quick learner when it came to figuring out how to make people like him. He was polite and courteous with the adults, always remembering to compliment the wives and share a joke or praise with the husbands. As time went on, he learned more and more about these characters and what kind of person to become in front of them. He gained a reputation among the adults as a well manner, charming young man. This became especially useful with his friends - nearly all their parents immediately loved him.

As he entered high school, Malachai put his people skills to use. Confidence is the first step, the next is figuring out what people want and being just that or making them think that you are what they want. Both methods have a time and place to be used. For example, girls fall at his feet for the first one. The second one gains him the admiration of his male peers. Becoming popular was only too easy. He enjoyed socializing, partying, and trying new things. Girls were a fun little game to play. He'd reel them in, flirt a bit, and win their hearts. Unfortunately, he lose interest very soon after. The win was hardly satisfying. Sometimes it came too easy. On top of that, so many of his connections felt surface level. He didn't care for many people outside his inner circle. However, all the people he made these surface level connections with were so often under the impression that things were much deeper than they actually were. Disillusioned with love from watching his parents, Malachai never commits to anyone. The most you could ever get out of him would be a friends-with-benefits arrangement. Dating never seemed to work out for him because he simply didn't find anyone interesting or intriguing enough to keep him around. The boredom, however, had been eating at him. He's begun searching for something a little more real.

TO BE

- who are you? -
"Have we met?"

Social to a fault, Malachai loves being around people. Maybe it's for the attention, maybe the companionship. He hasn't really figured it out yet, but he knows he needs people. Self-isolation has never suited him. He won't be alone if he can help it. In his classes, he's quick to make a few friends rather than sitting and working independently. At parties, there's always some to chat up. He's always had a fascination with conversations. The amount people are willing to tell you about themselves is astonishing - that's the one thing he's learned in his life: people love to talk about themselves. And once you get them talking, they love to tell a secret or two. He makes people feel safe when they talk to him. If they're more comfortable around him, they're more likely to tell him something of interest. It's just an aura he gives off that welcomes people. Of course, he doesn't go out of his way to talk to just anyone. There's always a purpose, a motivation.

"Sorry babe, but I've really got to head out."
His worst enemy is his attention span. So many people are predictable, easy to manipulate. The same story plays over and over again and he finds himself tired of it. Although talking to some people might be interesting at the beginning, he loses interest after he's managed to manipulate them to his own gain. He only goes back to them if there's a need for it, not out of a desire to connect with them. This attitude of being bored with people lends itself into a bit of a superiority complex. He finds himself more interesting than these bland characters; he's better than them. The exception to this attitude lies in his inner circle because the connections are real enough to keep his interest and make him care about them. Kai could spend all day with them without boredom nagging at him.

"What's the plan tonight?"
Always ready for something to do, Malachai enjoys the party scene. It satiates his desire to not be alone while offering an opportunity to drink with friends. He's thrown a few bangers while his parents have been out or at their lake house. All it takes is a call to the local housekeeping business and a quick swipe of his credit card the next day and you'd never know he'd done anything wrong at all. Not that his parents would even notice a thing he did as they're too wrapped up in their own lives. He prefers to go to other houses rather than his own because it gives him a way out if he needs to make quick get away. Besides partying, he's always down for other forms of hang outs. Kai doesn't mind a last minute excursion. Over the summer, it's not uncommon for him to casually leave the state, or even the country, to go somewhere with his friends. His resources have given him a love of travel. Spending the evening at home alone is a nightmare for this socialite. If nothing else, he'll call up one of the girls in his contacts to keep him company.

"Let's pour this out, shall we?"
A reference to a fateful night where he spotted his untouchable friend doing something... suspicious, to say the least. Within his own social group, he's quick to act as a protector. He's used his silver tongue to talk his way out of many fights, altercations, and misunderstandings on the behalf of his friends. Though he won't put his own reputation or life on the line, he will do everything he can to fix situations for them, within reason. With in-group conflict, he finds himself trying to play the role of peacemaker. He just wants them to get along. He's a fixer. Maybe it stems from the fights he grew up hearing where he felt helpless. Kai is always the one trying to keep everyone together. Once something is resolved, he usually doesn't talk about it after, feeling that the conversation or thank-you is unnecessary at that point. However, he's not above holding things over people - if you owe him one, he'll cash it in eventually. He's not forgetful.

"It's up to you, but I hardly see the harm in a little bit of fun."
Confidence comes naturally to Malachai. He's never had issues with his own self-image. If you like yourself enough, people seem to follow along. His easygoing demeanor makes him give off the impression that he'll be okay with or without you. However, deep down, Malachai doesn't really know how to deal with rejection. It just never seems to happen to him. If he wants something, he gets it. Anything straying from the norm just... doesn't make sense to Kai. He can't wrap his head around it. Because he has so much access to things, people, and opportunities, he's always willing to try something new - within reason, of course. A bit of peer pressure might sway what qualifies as "within reason." He's not one to jump into things without forethought - he's a thinker and planner at heart. Even if it's just a quick cost-benefit analysis, Kai never makes a decision based purely on want or emotion, there's always a rational component to it, a justification.

BROKEN.

- additional info -
favorite food:

- McDonald's french fries: he's had dinner at Michelin star restaurants. world class chefs have prepared meals for him. and yet, his favorite food is so far from that. french fries are simple, greasy, and always a good choice. he thinks back to late night car rides with his mother when she'd stop at this low end chain and buy them for him.
favorite drink:
whiskey and coke : sure, he could drink whiskey straight, but he's not an old man yet. as a young person, he prefers this soda mix because it has a classy element with a trashy element. it still gets him drunk at parties, so he considers it a great choice at the end of the day... but maybe not the next morning.
love language:
quality time: when it comes to the people he actually loves, he's happy to just spend time with them. he doesn't need fancy things, just good people. however, this often gets confusing because some people think he likes them and so they try to spend time with them and he absolutely hates it.
skills:
- conversation : malachai has been honing his polite conversation skills for years. beyond that, he's constantly in situations where he has to pretend he's interested when he's really not.
- body language : he likes to think he can read people pretty well by how they hold themselves, how they physically react to things, and their nonverbal cues. half of our daily communication is nonverbal. he pays close attention to it.
- public speaking : though he doesn't enjoy it, he knows he's good at it. too confident in himself and his communication skills to be scared of a crowd, malachai makes talking to groups of people look like child's play. he's had to make toasts and 'say a few words' at several events in his life, so he's gotten a good amount of practice.
weaknesses:
- children : oh, god. don't let malachai hold a baby. don't ask him to watch your five year old for two minutes. don't put him in charge of little sarah and timmy. he's absolutely the worst with children. he doesn't understand them, they're messy, and they never seem to like him.
- running : don't let the physique mislead you - malachai cannot run for more than a few minutes before getting winded. he's hated cardio his entire life. he prefer weights and lifting. why would he go on a 5 mile run if he could just do kickboxing to get his heart rate up instead?
- shopping : because he's never had to pay attention, malachai has no idea how much normal things cost. how much could a banana be? $11? he's always had other people buying things for him or been spending his parents money. although he has some office work experience from his father's firm, he has no idea how much a dollar is worth.
fears:
fading into the background, being ostracized
sins, secrets:
- despite precautions, sleeping around has caused him a few pregnancy scares. he's quick to give girls plan b if they mention it. there was one instance where he used mommy and daddy's money to get one girl an abortion and keep her quiet.
- he stopped the untouchable from making that huge mistake and hasn't told anyone about what almost happened.

persona:
Most people know AJ as being a fun, sociable, athletic and well-respected person. To be seen in as desirable of a light as he is, there's got to be more to him than just good looks and more money than he really needs, and it's true. He has a personality that suits the acclaim he receives. He has a strong presence, the type that nearly demands respect and attention. He's a great public speaker and understands how to manipulate people into seeing him in certain lights. He has good people skills and though he isn't opposed to teamwork, it's very clear that he prefers leadership roles over ones that involve equal contributions among people. Even as a child, he had that strong-will about him, and so making friends was never very difficult for him. It wasn't like he had to convince people to like him necessarily, because there was nothing inherently that wrong with him, but he always just carried an air about that made him seem enthralling. He was and and is always laughing, trying to have a good time, and socializing with people in general, and he thinks that his social nature has contributed to his success socially for obvious reasons, but also because he thinks that being well-liked is contagious. If one person sees that two other people like you, they'll be interested in seeing what's so good about you, and will want to get to know you as well. He's never been particularly bright, though he can maintain average grades, usually in the B's, but he's also not incredibly studious. He was never the kind of kid that could sit down with a book and read it, and actually enjoy it. He can be motivated when he can convince himself that assignments have purposes that will benefit him, but if he can't do that, then he struggles to care about doing well at all. His strengths are seen more prominently socially and athletically.

Most people who are only acquaintances and classmates, and not close friends, only know this good side that Austin often likes to flaunt. The biggest complaints that those people could have about his personality, would be that he does appreciate the social hierarchy. Understandably, he likes the way it all works, because it's what landed him at the top. He's living the good life, and it's hard to really wish that everyone below him were equal to him, because than he wouldn't be special. So, does he actively stand up for kids being bullied? Does he try to include everyone in events that are specifically meant to seem exclusive. Not really. In his defense, he isn't the type to bully people for no reason, but of course, sometimes being a silent bystander is just as bad, if not worse. Similarly, he does sometimes come off as being cocky, and maybe even condescending because of how comfortable he is with being almost socially invincible. People who are a bit closer to AJ know that he has a temper. It's something that shows in an extreme sense when he drinks too much and becomes that person willing and wanting to fight anyone over anything. In a less extreme sense, it's visible in how he can become easily frustrated and stressed out, especially when multiple things start going wrong, or he feels like people are turning against him. He can be ruthless to an extent, but it's mostly done out of selfishness. He doesn't like people taking what he thinks is his, or dismissing his ideas, so he's act against them in manners that may seem extreme, just to enforce his position at the top. He can be opinionated, stubborn, and somewhat meticulous in liking things done certain ways, which probably relates to an underlying control or power issue.
[/div] [div class="tabsContent tabsContentAbout" style="display: none;"]
biography:
Austin's parents could serve as model parents for a lot of people out there. They were never perfect, and never claimed to be, but if you asked him, they did and still are doing a pretty good job of raising four kids. They were never helicopter parents but they were always involved in his life, despite having two wholesome careers. His mother works as a cardiologist, and his father as an asasdasda. Despite both having demanding careers, they never fell into the trap of allowing their children to be raised by nannies like so many of his peers were. They remained a pretty traditional family... just with more money than the traditional family in America would have. Compared to many of his peers, though, he was never flamboyantly wealthy. His mother came from one of those sorts of families, so on top of her own success as a cardiologist, she'll always have an inheritance to fall back on, but his father always had to work hard to become who he is. Because of that, even if it would have been easy to let his kids live the good life with no strings attached, he made sure that all of them knew what hard work meant. As the only son in the family, AJ thinks that this was stressed harder in his upbringing than any of his sisters, but that's also probably him just playing the "you baby them too much" card. In reality, all of the Clarke children were spoiled, and just because he was the one constantly tasked with dragging their garbage to the chute down the hall every night didn't make him as much of the household slave as he would sometimes dramatically claim it did.

For the most part, AJ's relationships with his parents are positive ones. His father is his biggest role model, and though he sometimes feels like the man's own greatness is too much for him to live up to, he also appreciates the fact that his father has always pushed him hard. He tries to see the high standards in his family as a blessing, since he knows some kids whose parents couldn't care less about them or their success. Sometimes it feels daunting, since he knows that he'll never be like his father who worked for virtually everything he has, but he tries not to think that deeply into things that he can't control. He knows that he's lucky to have had the start that he has, and is grateful for that. He's not embarrassed that he was raised to put family first, and so despite the never-ending teasing and bickering that goes on between him and his sisters (at least the eldest two), he would defend them to no end. Especially when it comes to his baby sister, he's very protective and unapologetically loving and soft.

With a stable life at home, everything else seemed to fall into place for AJ. Despite being a student who averaged B's mostly, he got into St. Jude's without a problem due to his father's legacy there. His parents had many friends in Manhattan, so much of AJ's current friends were ones he had grown up with, making his social life busy and consistent from a young age. He always had a knack for sports, particularly excelling in soccer and basketball, though he enjoys playing most other sports as well in his free time. He doesn't have many goals for the future right now, but is considering going down a pre-med route, simply out of his parents' recommendation, and from seeing their success.

He lives just like he wants to, which can be a blessing and curse. If you were to give him a label it would say „player“. Ethan enjoys to flirt around as he feels the need to be entertained at any given time. He doesn’t want to process the serious events that are going on in his life as of now which is why he drowns himself in as much social contacts, parties and drugs as he can find.

He’s always been one of the reckless sort and refuses to worry about the future. „Who worries, suffers twice“, as his father used to say. Although his adventurous behavior isn’t something for everyone, it makes Ethan a promising opportunity to have fun with, may it be a spontaneous ride to the beach in the middle of the night or the party of the year, you name it.
charismatic, magnetic, electric…
Ethan turns heads like no one else with the attitude of a bad boy.

Despite all of the facade, Ethan feels lonely quickly. Not being able to count on friends is a notable difficulty in his life. Since he lost most of his friends due to his father’s business incident, he struggles to build trust to others because he wants to be in control of who enters his walls.
To everyone’s surprise Ethan can be a loyal friend once he notices that someone is genuine with him. He appreciates honesty over all and respects those who dare to confront him in a constructive way which reveals his likable qualities in his worst moments.

His mother as an aspiring thai model landing various jobs, the family never had to worry about anything. Ethan had always been an energetic fellow who enjoyed using his lifestyle to experience freedom. In his ‚high end‘ squad, he was able to shine brightest with New York’s best of the best - or more like the richest and most famous.

That changed when his father was found guilty of embezzlement of taxes in his own business. Before, the chinese-american business man was praised by the press for offering jobs to minorities to fulfill their own American Dream. It turned out that Ethan’s father offered black labor and payed them below minimum wage to gain higher profit. Convicted by the high court of the state New York, his father is now serving his time in prison.

Since then Ethan’s life drastically changed. Moving, losing his friends and falling into a pit of distraction. He has gotten used to it already, being looked at strangely as if it was his own fault.
The only problem? He doesn’t give a frick.

[div class=tag]description.[/div]
a slim girl with gentle, rounded facial features, sila is almost doll-like in appearance. her large, green eyes and heart-shaped lips give her a sweet, innocent expression, and, because she's so-often wearing a smile, people generally find her to be very approachable. she has warm-toned skin and a head of thick, dark brown hair that falls down to her mid-back. her hair naturally has loose curls, though she often straightens it. she has a sophisticated fashion sense; she loves playing with layers and has a preference for lighter, pastel-toned colours. the jewelry she wears is very minimalist in style, but clearly expensive.

[div class=tag]personality.[/div]
a bubbly social butterfly, sila stands out from some of the other a-listers because she's friendly to everyone she meets, regardless of their social standing. she's got an open, easy-going attitude that makes people gravitate towards her, and her infectiously high levels of positivity make her a pleasant girl to be around. her defining trait, however, is her ruthless ambition. sila wants to do great things with her life, and she has big plans for the future. she's headstrong when it comes to her wants - a diligent young woman who's unafraid of lots of hard work - so she's unstoppable once she has her mind set to a task. this mindset has earned her top marks in all her classes and a stellar 4.0 GPA: academic achievements which she's extremely proud of and not afraid to flaunt.
but, because she's so accustomed to being right, she's subconsciously developed a bit of a superiority complex. she knows she's smart, and she has a lot of faith in her way of thinking, but she's become set in her ways. if something doesn't align with her own logic, she's quick to dismiss it rather than questioning whether she's the one in the wrong, meaning she can be very narrow-minded. furthermore, she bases her sense of self-worth off her academic achievements, which has made her a huge workaholic and perfectionist. while her perfectionism is what got her to this point, it's a two-way street, because it also means that she sets unrealistically high goals for herself, and when she inevitably doesn't perform to the standard she expected to she takes a huge blow to her self-confidence.
sila approaches her social life in the same manner she treats her academics: she constantly feels as if she needs to be at the the top. so while it may seem like her sociability comes naturally to her, it actually stems from a need she feels for others to approve of her. she can't stand the thought of someone disliking her, no matter who they are, and she has the tendency to over-exert herself for others in order to please them. while forthright with her positive emotions, sila never speaks up when she thinks things are going wrong because she wants to maintain her perfect image, so she internalises all of her negative feelings - a method she can only use for so long before her true emotions bubble up to the surface.
[/div][/div] [div class=column][div class=images style="background: var(--image-8); background-size: cover; background-position: center;"][/div] [div class=images style="background: var(--image-9); background-size: cover; background-position: center;"][/div] [div class=images style="background: var(--image-10); background-size: cover; background-position: center;"][/div][/div][/div] [div class="tabContents tabContents4"][div class=textbox][div class=scroll][div class=tag]the backstory.[/div]
though sila is living a life of luxury, the upbringing of her parents serves as a direct juxtaposition to that of her own. firat karadeniz was born in connecticut to two turkish immigrants, and he had to claw his way to the top from nothing. though having to work minimum wage jobs as a teenager in order to help his family make a decent living, firat still worked himself to the bone to excel in his studies. he went on to graduate from highschool as valedictorian and got into yale with a financial aid scholarship. he'd continue to study at yale, taking a master's course in law, where he met berna yavuz, another law student of turkish ancestry. the two instantly hit it off and became the perfect power couple.
the two of them moved to new york soon after graduating, where they landed jobs at major corporate law firms. they got married after six years of dating and within the year they had a healthy baby girl. sila would grow up in a life of privilege, with two high-income parents and top-notch private schooling, but her parents ensured that she would be raised with the same values they had learned as the children of immigrants. they made it clear to her at an early age that her education was not to be taken for granted, and as the only child of a highly reputable couple, there was always immense pressure on sila to excel at her own endeavours and follow in her parents' legacy.
it shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that when sila began to attend constance billard school for girls she wasted no time in establishing herself as a top student; joining as many extracurriculars as she could handle and leaping at any opportunities for extra credit. being naturally sociable, sila also managed to fall in alongside the a-list crowd with relative ease. being the sole child of two extremely successful parents, and at the top of her game both in terms of academics and her social life, sila's image is one of complete perfection.
behind closed doors, however, sila's life is crumbling in on itself. unbeknownst to anyone but her, her parents' marriage is a ticking time bomb: the two of them are constantly arguing, and while they initially tried to hide it from sila it's now reached the point where the sound of yelling and slamming doors are a constant in the karadeniz residence, and the family meals are icily silent. with her own house feeling like a war-zone, sila has a harder time focusing on her overwhelming number of commitments, and her grades are starting to slip. to make matters worse, she has nobody to confide in, because, despite her many friends, opening up about your problems becomes difficult when your entire image is built upon the notion that your life is perfect. With her family situation worsening with each passing day, sila is worried that it's only a matter of time before people begin to see through the cracks in the facade...

[div class=block style="background-color: grey;"]personality[/div] norah is the girl who always has an extra pencil, or a granola bar, or even for those who need it a tampon or advil. she’s the friendly voice in the bathroom that comforts you when you’re crying in the bathroom. she is kind in a simple way, it’s not loud or big and fake like how some people are with their kindness. it’s quiet, plain and simple like she doesn’t even have to think about it. probably because she doesn’t, she is truly just caring. she just cares so much, and because she cares so much she can be a little overbearing. she pries into people often when she probably shouldn’t because she can tell they’re unhappy and she just wants to help. she thinks just as much as she cares. she thinks about her friends and what they like, so if she sees something she thinks they’ll like she’ll get it for them. or even if they say they’re not hungry she’ll order a side of fries because she knows they like fries. norah is nice, that’s what her friends may say, a bit too much like a mom, a worry-wart, but nothing else. where most friends know each other’s secrets, norah’s friends know none of hers because it seems like she has none.

which is a lie. norah does that a lot. lies. not about small things or school work, she’s quite honest for the most part. but, she lies about her childhood, what her life was before new york. she lies, and keeps her fears, secrets, her dreams all safe close to her chest. she doesn’t reveal anything that could make anyone question her perfect and kind facade. so she lies to just seem like the simple nice girl because truly that’s all she wants to be. she lies, and closes herself off because deep down she’s insecure. she doesn’t like herself truly and fully, so she likes the attention she gets from her friends. she’s insecure about the decisions she’s made and makes so she gives her friends advice because then she’s useful. because then she’s good. she also doesn’t like to go out of her comfort zone. she’s wary of things she doesn’t know or understand. she isn’t impulsive and has to be sure that whatever she is doing is safe.

norah is a steady constant in the lives of those around her. always nice, always stressing out about her friends idiotic descisons. norah is definitely the responsible one in her group. she finishes all of her homework on time and has keeps an intricate calendar for school and keeps on top of all of her projects. she puts effort and care into her schoolwork just like all of the other facets of her life. she is also nice enough to make a copy of her homework to pass around to her friends for them to copy when they inevitably don’t finish it. she does all the work in a group project, and while others may call her a pushover. she actually enjoys having control over everything, that way she can make sure everything is done perfectly and to her standard.

tw// attempted sucide, mentions of self harm not graphic but mentioned, underage drinking, and some self internalised demiphobia on norah's part also link here if you can't read it because the code is funky on mobile x

unlike many of her peers norah wasn’t born rich. she spent most of her childhood in the middle class like many american children do. because of this her parents couldn’t afford the expensive privates schools her friends went to, instead norah attended public school. norah spent most of her childhood happy surrounded by a loving family, the eldest of three children. her parents instilled ideals of responsibility and hardwork. that you can do anything you put you put your mind to, but most importantly you can do anything you please without hurting others. they taught her that lying, cheating and manipulating people weren’t needed to succeed. norah palmer was a happy child, content with her life and extremely kind.

everything changed though when she was 11. her mother had been working on her own clothes business for years. starting in a small shop, her mother based her business on supporting black designers and creators. she had been doing it for as long as norah could remember. her father was a risk analyst which wasn’t nearly as cool as what her mother did but it brought in the money to help support the business. and eventually her mother’s hard work paid off and soon she was gaining popularity and blowing up online. she opened more and more stores in different cities, norah remembers the trips to visit the stores seeing all of the people. norah realized that the people shopping in her mother’s store weren’t from the same financial bracket as her family, that they were probably richer, but it didn’t hit her until her mother told her they were moving. moving to LA which was far away from where she had been raised, but norah was very excited, after all what kid wouldn’t be excited to live in ‘hollywood’.

and so everything was fine for a while. she went to a new school, much richer than she had gone to before and made friends. at least people she considered friends. it all started going down hill when norah was fourteen, the summer before highschool she started seeing a boy. she had never understood her friends crushes on the hot guys or girls in their classes. she never really understood how they were attracted to someone just based on their physical appearance. she assumed that as she got older that it would change, but it never did so she just accepted it for what it was, a part of her. but, she started seeing a boy, his name was kyle, he seemed nice and he had asked her out. and norah liked him enough as a friend to see if maybe the feelings could grow into something a little more romantic. that and all of her friends had boyfriends, so she needed one, if she wanted to fit in. if she still wanted to be apart of the group come highschool.

and so began her summer romance. it was nice, she never felt the butterflies that she was told about in movies, but she liked hanging out with kyle and wanted him to like her. the first two weeks of the summer were calm, but then the partying started. one of her friends had an older brother who was already in highschool and was able to get them into parties. norah was reluctant at first, her friends told her not to tell her parents what she was up to, just say that she was sleeping over at one of theirs which was usually what happened by the end of the night but, it still felt wrong. but she did it, all because she wanted them to like her. which is how she took her first drink, and her second, and her third, and the many that came afterwards. norah was stuck in a loop of lying and doing whatever it took to fit in. even if that meant losing weight, or taking pills. she just wanted to be normal.

summer came and went and norah and kyle were still together. entering highschool was hard, everything felt bigger and much older. she began to question herself. if she was good enough. if she was good. she fell into a dark spiral internally, her friends and boyfriend were constantly telling her to change, and she couldn’t tell her parents what was going on because they’d be disappointed in her. and she hated when they were disappointed. and one day, she started to harm herself. on her hips out of sight, but a reminder of herself that she had to be better. and as she told herself as soon as she was perfect then she’d stop. but she never stopped. she carried on with it through freshman year, along with drinking and lying habits she was ashamed off. the year passed by quickly, it felt for the most part to norah that she wasn’t even there.

it was the end of april when it happened. kyle broke up with her. she wasn’t even into him, but it hurt. every single one of her friends dropped her, and norah was completely alone. and that wasn’t the worst part, no the worst part came in an email her mother received chronologically all of the parties norah went to and lied about. along with some compromising photos of norah drinking. her parents confronted her about it, and norah felt like everything was falling around her. she was ruined, everything was ruined. like there was nothing she could do. and so she did what she thought she deserved, she tried to overdose. she took pills that her friends had given to her to hide for them. and with the end of april came the end of this norah palmer.

and with the beginning of may came hope, and a new life. norah lived, her parents found her and were able to get her to the hospital on time. they forgave norah for everything and apologized for not seeing her pain. they cared for her, and decided that it would be best for them to move. besides, her mother had always liked new york more than LA, so there they went. norah began seeing a therapist, a lovely woman who validated every single one of norah’s feelings and taught her ways to process her anxiety and stress. she was also diagnosed with depression, and began to take medication for that. everything became better. she got enrolled at constance billard’s school for girls and moved on. she became the responsible, kind person she was when she was younger. but with a new vigor to watch over others and make sure they never felt the pain she felt.

[/div][/div] [div class="textcontainer tabsContent tabsContent2" style="display:none;"][div class=text] [div class=tag]persona:[/div] At face value, Olivia is a charming girl who seems like she has every aspect of her life together. She's bubbly and friendly, able to put on a smile in even the darkest of times if she feels like she needs to play it cool. She's good at feigning interest in things or people to get someone to like or trust her, and she does an exceptional job at reading people to determine what it'll take for them to do something she wants. Being manipulative is second nature to her at this point, and she's comfortable enough with lying, using people, and disposing people when she's through with them, that she does find it easy to deceive people at this point. It doesn't trigger the same feelings of guilt and self-doubt that it used to, as she's become desensitized to those emotions.

In a lot of ways, Olivia is "really good but not exceptional", and it's the most frustrating aspect of her life in her opinion. She tends to do really well on exams, but she's never the highest scorer. She can pick up sports and with minimal effort, but she's never the MVP. People like her and enjoy her company, but never to the point where she's the first person that they call when they're bored. The aftermath of all of that is the development of feelings of spite, anger, insecurities, and an irrational desire to compete with everyone and win. It's shaped her personality into being focused on that need for the #1 spot, and through that, she's nearly become a shell of a person. Her personality and emotions constantly feel like a facade, masking those ulterior motives, and her obsessive focus on her goals often distract her from being truly human or present in a lot of daily interactions.

She's not a sociopath (at least not a diagnosed one, and because she's so good at playing into what people want her to be, she has a reputation for being a good human to most. It's just that she's been "acting" as the person people have wanted her to be for so long, that she doesn't truly know who she is or what she wants for herself anymore.
[/div][/div] [div class="textcontainer tabsContent tabsContent3" style="display:none;"][div class=text] [div class=tag]history:[/div] Olivia was born and raised in Manhattan, New York as third child of Laura and Greg Blake. Her parents existed in the elite social circle of New Yorkers who had enough money and respect to live in a seemingly different world than the general population. Her mother is a senior executive producer for ABC, her father is a plastic surgeon, her sister (age 21) is a senior at Stanford University, and her brother (age 24) is a medical school student at Harvard University. Needless to say, success is something that is just expected as the standard among her clan and even if it's all she's used to, the pressure of it still resonates with her every day, in every action she takes.

Growing up, it constantly felt like she was living in her siblings' shadows. They were the most popular kids in their classes, respectively, and their parents seemed so proud of them in every way possible. They set the bar high for Olivia, and she has spent much of her youth just trying to reach that bar. Being able to surpass it hasn't even crossed her mind as a possibility.

As if her family's expectations weren't enough, Olivia finds that she's constantly fighting for the spotlight at school and in her social life, too. She wonders if she just got cursed with ending up in the same grade level as Charlotte Graff, and if her sister just had it easier being surrounded by girls who were less perfect than her. Olivia was aware of her spot on the social ladder even before cliques were something that kids were acutely aware they were apart of. As a child, it was something that actually caused her much grief and anxiety because for a while, she just couldn't fit in with the A-list kids. She would try, and try, and try. Her parents would use their influence to get her play dates with the right kids, put her on the same sports teams and in the same extracurricular activities, but no matter what she did, it wasn't good enough. She was always forgotten when it came to birthday party invitations, or sleepovers, or inside jokes. She was clinging to the group since childhood, but only officially became a part of it in high school after dating one of the boys in the group. Now that she's made it this far, she's determined to keep moving up and doesn't care who she has to take down to get there.

Check -- If he's insecure about anything, it's the name that his mom cursed him with having. Not only is Clarence Chester Chexley a tongue twister, who the hell names their kid Clarence? What evil bastard would do that to a kid in modern times?! As a kid, he was teased over it relentlessly and now solely goes by Check, a nickname based on his last name.

persona

[div class=tag]personality.
Check is a quiet and reserved young man in most situations. He likes to sit back and observe what is going on around him, reading people's expressions, listening to their words, analyzing their emotions. He's a deep thinker and tends to get wrapped up in his own head, overthinking about things that are a lot more simple than he makes them out to be. Check isn't one to speak unless he has something important to say and he doesn't feel comfortable speaking in front of large groups in any formal sort of setting. He isn't timid or shy, but he often finds that he doesn't have anything to say that would be worth expending the energy it would take to say it. Though he isn't necessarily the opposite of the traits, he wouldn't be one to be described as being friendly, talkative, or warm. His demeanor is typically quite closed off, oftentimes cold and disconnected seeming. His instinct is that of a lone wolf, and he doesn't mind being alone or being in a room filled with silence. In fact, he oftentimes prefers that.

However, he isn't cut-and-dry boring and dark, and he isn't some emo kid secluding himself from the world for attention, or crying about how the world hates him. It's just his natural personality; he doesn't like people as much as other people seem to like people. He still has people that he considers to be friends, though. They could attest to the fact that it is actually possible to get a smile out of him, that he has a good (albeit dark) sense of humor, and that he's generous and thoughtful when he wants to be. If he's in the mood to socialize, he doesn't bring down the energy of a space even if he still wouldn't be described as being the life of the party, and he can make conversation if the topic is something that interests him.

history

[div class=tag]history
Clarence lives in Lower Manhattan with his mom, Linda, in the same apartment that he's lived in since he was born. He never had any siblings and never knew his father, so it was always just he and his mom. Linda was never into the traditional nine to five job scene, and though Check wouldn't be able to tell you what a single word of it means, she bills herself as a Certified Reiki Master and Certified Shamanic Healer. She also teaches Shamanic Healing and Reiki training courses (illegally) out of the living room of their apartment a few nights a week. While she makes more than one would think, considering how many rich people with nothing better to do than pretend to be spiritual and need weekly "energy cleanses", an inheritance from her great uncle left Linda in a position where she could be just as... quirky... as she wanted, and still manage to provide for Check.

He spent his pre-school, elementary school, and middle school years at a Montessori school. He was "asked to leave" at the end of his eighth grade year, which was their polite way of saying that he was expelled, after getting into his third physical fight of the year with another boy, and breaking his jaw in the process. While he wasn't opposed to going to public school, he was accepted into Saint Jude's after his mother sent in an application for him. His previous school withheld his disciplinary records from his transcript after pleas from his mother, but what truly worked in his favor was how naturally intelligent Check is. It's not a trait most people would pin him as having at first glance, but ever since he was a child, building things came naturally to him. He had a brain meant for math and engineering, and when most kids his age were playing with action figures and dinosaur toys, he was taking apart and rebuilding computers. By middle school, he was hacking into the websites of major corporations, foreign governments, and so on. It was mainly just for fun at that point, but he soon learned that he could use it for his own benefit, too. In his mind, the way he's using it is innocent fun still, compared to what he could do with it. Sure, creating fake IDs is illegal, hacking into his school's database to change exam scores is immoral, and stealing cryptocurrency is hard to paint in any sort of positive light but Check likes to think of himself of a Robinhood of sorts.
