Description:
Although he is a master of disguises and illusions, Kritas' has enough of an ego on him that he prefers to be viewed and recognized as himself unless the situation calls for something else. A man of means, he dressed in a way that telegraphs his exuberant wealth, numerous golden rings on each hand, exquisite clothing and exotic perfumes. He has a penchant for masks and is usually wearing a golden one that is more or less synonymous with his appearance at this point. He stands a few inches short of six feet at 5'8, with long dark hair, sharp features and green eyes.
Backstory:
The Arcane Order of Gaardia - The last and best hope for the Low Folk of the world to reach ascendance and rise up against their monstrous oppressors. At least, as far as Kritas is concerned. He was anything but impartial though, seeing as he had spent his entire life within the Order. Both of his parents had been prominent members of the order, such pairings was not unusual considering the insular nature of many arcane practitioners, and as most people he followed in his parents' footsteps.
Letters and numbers came easily too him, as they do most who pursue a mage's career. He learned well and fully his esoteric lore, how to bend the arcane energies of the world to his will, choosing to focus on the arts of divination and fortune-telling. Although a promising mage, what truly set him apart from his peers and sky-rocket his career were his social graces. Were many mages were a bit eccentric and lacking of social finesse, Kritas was the opposite. Indeed, many were the times were his prophecies had failed him, yet his words made it seem like they had come true, turning a disgruntled customer into satisfied one. Prophecies are notoriously ambiguous, and with the right interpretation they can say anything.
A quickly calculating mind and charming smile made for a potent combination. His reputation as a nearly-flawless Seer quickly accrued him both wealth and influence in the city of Camblin. Support by his talents, the wealth he had gathered and his parents, he managed to climb the ranks of the arcane order as well. He would be recognized as an archmaster-Seer even a bit before his skills warranted it. Had he been a true archmaster, he would perhaps been able to foresee and avert the demise of his parents.
A magical undertaking gone wrong. That was all that was known about Etrius & Morgaine's, Kritas' parents, untimely death. The two had left Camblin city together and traveled east, taking with them a large number of arcane supplies as well as a few assistants and apprentices. A single assistant is all that returned, their mind broken and unable to utter more than a few words. The news devasted Kritas, and caused him to throw caution to the wind. He delved deeper into his arcane studies, looking further into unknown futures and murky pasts. Through bribes and lies he gained access to forbidden and dangerous knowledge hoarded by the order, not meant for mortal eyes. His magical powers grew, and he was on the cusp of true Theurgy.
But mortals cannot use Theurgy. It uses them. He found himself trapped in rigid visions of the future which he had to act out. Were once he had pulled the strings of destiny, now it pulled his. Unwillingly he traveled east in secret, following the path his parents took.
Exactly what happened is not known. Kritas returned to Camblin and resumed his life as if nothing had happened. His powers had grown, but he kept that a secret. Had an angel intervened on his behalf, blessing him with the might to wield theurgy without becoming it's slave? Or had he successfully deceived the world, convincing it that he since he was wielding theurgy he must be Godbound?

Facts:
1) Faerie Queen - +2 to any mental stat or will save. You gain one lesser gift from Deception, Mind, Illusion, Memory, or Chaos as well as 2 additional effort. Cold iron weapons are treated like a magical weapon when used on you. It can bypass your damage reduction. You are helpless when bound or contained by cold iron. You cannot lie directly or break an oath.
2) Tender of the Sacred Grove - The rites and rituals of the harvest. Honouring the spirits of soil and tree and vine. The propitiation of the forest spirits and the honoured ancestors interred beneath them. The efficacious power of herbs, their harvest and preparation. She thought she knew these things. She had but taken the first timid step on a path she has now walked leagues upon. From the great heights she has reached she can barely see the spot where she had made her humble beginnings. She can't decide whether to laugh or cry. She does both. Mechanical benefits: automatic success when recalling the rites and rituals of the harvest, herbology, herb lore, and preparation of herbs.
3) Relationship: Guardian of the Last Campfire at the End of the World - She builds it. They tear it down. Where once there was a teeming settlement, now only ash. And yet life is tenacious. Something always survives, staggering out of the dark to her little beacon of hope in still smoking fields of ash. Her forlorn campfire at the end of the world. Some of them she pulled back through the black gates before their souls could move on, some were canny enough to escape, some were simply too stub
born to die, some were just lucky. They're all survivors. Each time a few more choose to follow her, and they set off with the next dawn to a new site to build it all anew. Each time a little bit faster. A little bit better. Hoping this time will be the last. GM needs to come up with mechanical benefits.
Description: Her tangled brown hair became a riot of colourful blossoms and petals, her unremarkable brown eyes scintillating jewels that promised to reveal a fragment of that infinite complexity if only the viewer would stare just a little deeper, her pale thin lips ripe with the promise of a kiss as sweet as the first harvest apple and just as red. These superficial changes did not truly separate her from what she once was. It was the knowing. Knowing what everyone would say, could say, was capable of saying if they applied themselves for years, from the moment they stepped into the room. Knowing they could never comprehend the beauty she could behold, could bring forth. Could never truly appreciate it. Often quivered in fear at the sight of it. It hardly mattered, though. They're almost all dead now, cut down and reduced to ashes by the same monstrosities who destroy everything she builds.
Backstory: Everyone knew about the ring of menhirs at the centre of the grove. Everyone knew not to go there. Except Caesura. The harvest was bad for the third year. She went to plead with whatever lived down there. Now 'not knowing' is an alien concept to her, as far remote as she is from her former friends. When some ancient fragment of divinity chose to unfold the secrets of the universe before her like a blossoming lotus of impossible beauty and complexity, it transformed her utterly and irrevocably. It filled her with the knowledge of how to create all things living and unliving, and a burning desire to build a better world, to complete a work left unfinished eons ago.

6) may command undead in their presence as an action, ordering up to one Mob of any size. Greater undead get a Spirit saving throw to resist, and cannot be commanded to self-destruct. [death]
7) create any non-magical object a normal man can carry as a round’s action, using whatever materials are to hand. While the ensuing creation may look odd, and any "foodstuffs" are inedible, it functions and lasts as well as a normal object of its type and usual substance. The Fall of Grayce
Grayce was the Capitol of the Ptolemai Empire. Grayce was barely managing to stay under the magic population number that would summon the monsters. One day a woman from Grayce was washing clothes when a monster flew overhead, no doubt to enforce their law. This woman was sick of seeing the monsters and how the fiends filled her with dread so she sought an audience with the emporer about the issue of freeing themselves from their oppression. The Emporer thought back to the years of his own life, what he knew of his father's, what he knew of his grandfather's and realized it washigh time to do somethijng about it. He was so pompous that he bet his life and the lives of the whole city that he could take them down. Little did he know that the stakes would be even higher. He had his scientists, engineers, and blacksmiths look into making weapons capable of bringing down these fiends. 50 years after the project was started. The emporer looked upon them and was in awe. He had never seen their like. During the last 50 years, he had also commanded that those population numbers. That Night, the emporer prepared to spring his trap when the monsters came to attack. It turned out his mighty weapons weren't mighty enough, for the monsters came and burned everything including the famed weapons. The monsters weren't about to stop at Grayce. They burned the whole of the empire to ash. It seemed the smoke filled the sky forever until at last it cleared onto an empire that was no longer. The emporer's mistake, they say, was that weapons without the spark of a magic of the gods themselves would do no harm unto the monsters
-- The bard's song, The Fall of Grayce.

Archdruids can heal 2d10 divided among up to 4 targets within 10 feet of eachother. These druids revere nature and the teachings of the Angel Idreia.
==The Druidic order== the same as above minus the angel.
==The Sin Eaters of Dourah== in the area around Taar Valaan
==The Arcane Order of Gaardia==
==The Divine Order of Gaaria==
==Mystics== This replaces the Merciful Hand and have the same tiers with the same spells/abilities except that masters can lift curses and dispel effects cast in the last 24 hours as long as was not high magic or divine gifts/miracles that cast it and archmages can lift curses and dispel effects cast any amount of time ago as long as was not high magic or divine gifts/miracles that cast it. It is both a religion and a low magic class. These are wandering spellcasters who wander around doing things like healing, lifting curses, teaching, etc. They worship no deities, but spirituality in itself. Wandering is part of their religious practice. It is somewhat rare to have more than one Mystic in one place unless one is an apprentices. Apprentces often shadow a higher tier of mystics. Although they do not worship deities but their devotion to their saints is greater than the irl catholic church.

Wild Magic
1) why wild magic? it makes gameplay interesting.
2) wild magic is considered a form of high magic.
3) Two facts are required for a PC to possess wild magic.
4) wild magic spells demand a price. The price may be a quest or trial, something you must sacrifice, or something else determined by the GM.
5) you may modify the casting time, duration, range, power (spell penetration), and/or damage at will.
6) the price is higher the more modifications that are applied.
7) you may choose 3 theurgie spells but are considered wild magic not theurgie. These spells retain their degrees, which are also reflective of price.
8) In addition, you may perform minor spells with no price.
9) the GM chooses the price which is paid AFTER the spell is cast.
10) If the price is not paid, the spell is reversed and its affects/damage is applied to you. The intended target receives bonuses chosen by the GM.
11) For additional (after the original two) related fact, you get 2 more spells.

Sizniche @Tachyonb do you want our characters to have met before, or has fate just pulled three Godbound into a tavern in a tiny town seemingly by chance?
caecgirl give us more to work with! What draws our eyes to a musician who hasn't started playing yet? Why do we care about him? Do we see each other? Because I kind of feel like the huge shirtless scarred warrior-god, the divinely charming god of ostentatious wealth, and the faerie might command the attention of the room. I'm honestly a litle bit surprised they let Caesura in at all Faeries usually aren't well received in many settings, what with the murdering and kidnapping and whatnot. Maybe fae are nicer in this world.
Sizniche:
Random Word Since Orrin is basically the hometown hero, he could just be someone you guys' characters meet here. I'd imagine you might actually be the only one that draws any real attention since Orrin is a known quantity in town, and Kritas can probably hide who he is :vP
caecgirl:
Random Word if ur eyes are drawn to him , u must care. but that, ultimately is up to you. i will se4e what i can do, though. Cae could be in disguise.
caecgirl:
Random Word u gotta ask him or someone else. thats how my other party figured it out.
caecgirl:
u guys mind if i post a second time here in reply? don't want siz to unknowingly steal the bard's thunder... and possible pickup line.
Sizniche:
caecgirl Nawp, lol. Reply when you feel the timing is appropriate. Random Word question, How tall exactly is Caesura? Because it might help in the description of my post to know if she's taller or shorter than Orrin, and I've already determined how tall Orrin is in my own head :-P
Random Word:
Sizniche Uhh, let's say 7 ft. That seems about faerie-tall .
Sizniche:
Random Word
Okiedoke. Orrin is 6' 10", so almost as tall
I had to ask, since it sounded from your post that they'd be about the same height, and I was right lol
caecgirl:
Random Word i picture faerie as shorter than humans/elves
Sizniche:
caecgirl Maybe it's something special about being the Fae Queen
Random Word:
caecgirl oops. Uh, well, we can edit that right quick if you like. Fae in mythology have often had widely varying heights, but I figured (incorrectly, clearly) a Faerie Queen would probably be pretty tall. You tell me how tall Caesura ought to be, then - like really short? Just ordinary short?
caecgirl:
Random Word uh i donno...5' for males? for females, uh less. that's about the size of dwarves too right?
Tachyon:

I don't know how politically savvy Orrin is, but regardless he would know that Kritas serves as an advisor for whoever is in charge of Camblin. If he's more in-tune with things, he might now that Kritas has a bit more influence than usual, but it is all 'soft power'. He advises, and is very good at making his case in the halls of power, but he doesn't rule.
Perhaps Kritas has served as a sort of 'quest giver' to Orrin in the past? He's a wizard and good at finding things out. Perhaps Kritas has identified threats to the town and told Orrin about them, and then Orrin goes and kick the ass of whatever the threat it.
What would we know of Caesura? What is known about the Fae, and how are they viewed by others? Do we know what a Fae queen is? I'm not very familiar with D&D-esque settings in general, so you may have to clarify things a bit Caecgirl
Edit: I realized we started in the town of Tybor, not Camblin City. Still, perhaps Orrin is well-known enough that Kritas would have sought him out when ne'er do-wells of epic proportion were afoot?

Basically, your average peasant is terrified of faeries, and wants to ward them off or propitiate them so they stay happy and don't come knocking, and really doesn't want to make them angry. They're the sort of thing heroes test their wits against.
If I had taken the Word of Desire and made Caesura more socially inclined, she would be more in line with a traditional faeries, but I could still play her as a traditional faerie.
I don't know if Caesura was born a faerie in a community of faeries, or if whatever empowered her transformed her - either way works for me and I left it ambiguous - but I've decided she has a compulsion to build and grow in a world where cities of any size and infrastructure are ruthlessly razed to the ground by horrors in the night. The fragment of divinity that empowered her was obsessed with growth, evolution, and cultivation. It laments its great works left unfinished.
So putting it all together, I expect that if you've heard of Caesura it's probably one of the following tales:
An evil and malicious spirit who commands the unquiet dead and lures innocent peasants in with feast tables laden to breaking with food and drink. She bewitches heroes and skilled artisans to help build and defend her dark palace. Those foolish enough to follow their stomachs or ensorcelled by her fell magics are inevitably caught when the horrors from the dark descend to destroy this offence against the natural order of things. She works with the horrors to weaken communities by drawing away their best and brightest into her trap.
A strange and pitiful spirit cursed by some power to endlessly build beautiful gardens overflowing with food in a palace filled with fine things and courtiers living and dead, only to watch it all reduced to ashes by the encroaching darkness again. Stay far away if you know what's good for you, but if you must accept her gifts, take them and run before the horrors come. If you let her bewitch you into staying, you'll burn with the fields, or worse: join her undying host, cursed to follow her forever.

"Come all without, come all within
You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Orinn"
Sizniche:
Since we're talking rumors the other characters may have heard, Orrin is the kind of person that kind of gets mentioned around Camblin like an urban legend; he's not legendary in the sense of having epic poems or mythological tales written about him (yet!), but instead you'll occasionally hear someone in someplace like Camblin City insist there's an unbeatable boxer who lives in Tyvvor and someone else saying they'll believe it when they see it. This leads to a lot of people travelling to Tyvvor to fight him and seeing his ability firsthand, which may or may not be the cause of more people insisting on the legend.
Of course, the town of Tyvvor knows him and knows he's a good fighter in a brawl, though very few know his true nature since he doesn't go out of his way to out himself and doesn't go too hard on people who challenge him. At their discretion, Tachyon Tachyon can have Kritas have witnessed one of his fights yesterday, and, being a divinely empowered being himself, know there's something more to Orrin.
Random Word:
Ah, oops. I assumed Orrin wasn't keeping such a low profile. 'Is good at boxing' probably wouldn't be enough to attract Caesura's interest, but maybe? I was more thinking, 'Can defeat a hundred men in the ring without breaking a sweat.'

BTW, i added this to the lore yesterday:

You have the Word of Might The question isn't can you break a mundane object of no particular plot relevance, merely if you wish to. The rules say for tasks within the purview of a bound word, you only roll for truly superhuman feats, and only completely impossible feats require a miracle. It also calls out that 'showing off' never costs effort. This isn't an important plot point. You can just choose whether you want to reveal you can shatter a sword. Even if a miracle is required, you can use a free 'showing off' miracle, if you like.
Likewise, when Caesura asks you to strike or spar with one of her servitors, you can just narrate how you completely annihilate it, play with it, or conceal your power. Caesura will intervene to prevent it from being destroyed if you try to completely annihilate it, though.

Okay, so... all saving throws are DC 16, and Caesura has a +3 Spirit Save. Not good odds. Wow, so even at a +6 Evasion she only has a 50/50 chance to make a save. Okay, so saves are very risky in this game at low levels, but at high levels saves almost always succeed. Interesting. I wonder if at higher levels there are ways to give your opponents penalties to save so your save-allowing abilities aren't useless.
Haha, a 5. Caesura completely fails. Excellent
Zaal's storytelling will probably cause the fight between Orrin and Otek to come to an abrupt halt, but that's okay. Orrin can always have already won the fight before the story started if he'd like.

my personal philosophy is to only do that with things I can't afford to fail. So its really impossible to make saving throws harder when u can commit effort to automatically pass. Maybe I should limit that.

Committing Effort for the day to automatically pass is a big cost! We can only do that a few times per day, and if we do, we can't use any of our fancy powers anymore. I think it's rare you'll see players spend Effort to pass a save unless the consequences of failure are truly dire.

I just had a thought; hypothetically, if Orrin could get a Strength of 27, would that still only be a +5 modifier?
Random Word:
Yes, RAW. The rules don't have any provision for going beyond 22.
Sizniche:
aw :^P
Random Word:
It still applies just fine to checks, though. You don't apply your modifier to strength checks, you just subtract your attribute from 21 to find the DC. So you'd have a DC of -6, meaning you had a 90% chance to succeed on even the most incredible feats of strength possible for a human (+8). That's the thing about attributes in Godbound - they're kind of irrelevant. They're just for little toy tasks, and are completely outclassed by Words.
I guess maybe Str and Dex are good for combat? I'm actually not sure if they're used for much. Oh, Dex applies to AC. So yeah, I think the physical stat bonuses are actually useful for something, where the mental stats are mostly just for decoration. Caesura will almost certainly never roll with her 22 Int, and her +5 int bonus is only contributing to her Evasion save. Likewise with Charisma, if you have 22 Cha you almost certainly have a bound Word that makes it obsolete.
Caesura doesn't even have a bound Word like Desire, but even she can spend an Effort on a Miracle to make everyone who witnesses her consider her the most important person in their life instantly, making Cha kind of redundant. The only reason I wanted her to have 22 Cha was vanity .
Sizniche:
The reason I ask is bcuz I saw the Frenzy word in the homebrew list and the Greater Frenzy gift for it. It honestly wouldn't even fit the character (at least, not as he is now,) but the idea of having 27 Strength in a system where having more than 18 in a stat is an extreme rarity just tickles me in a way i cant explain

I completely understand - it's up the to ST if they want to extend the modifier table to give it a +6. Given 16 -> +3; 18 -> +4; 22 -> +5 we can infer that maybe 26 -> +6, 28 -> +6, or 30 -> +6, depending on whether we're switching to a regime of +1 every 4 attribute points, increasing the attribute increment by +2 for each bonus step, or doubling the attribute increment for each +1 modifier after +3. We don't have enough information to really say what the pattern is.
Edit: Oh wait, is it 18 is +3, 19 is +4, and 22 is +5? That's even weirder.
Unrelated, but wow the Frenzy word is insane. Followers' Rewards and Fervor of the Righteous are both crazy for Lesser powers, and FotR especially looks absurdly broken. Linear bonus scaling on number of followers? So if you get a hundred people together to follow you, you get +200 to hit, +200 damage, and +200 on saving throws? And all your followers have DR <your level> to prevent them from being slaughtered en masse by AoE? Paired with Pulling God's Teeth you could one-shot almost anything in existence. What has more than 200 HD?

I guess this is kind of where gifts come back around to rendering large numbers useless. Yes, theoretically a Might/Frenzy character with a hundred minio--err, followers, can one-shot four Made Gods in one hit with Loosening God's Teeth, but those Made Gods would also have gifts to help negate or mitigate that.
Though it would be fun to carry around a sack full of mooks and become a DB Super character.

My recommendation would be that the Frenzy word be forbidden to Free Divinities, and that the bonuses of Fervor of the Righteous be equal to the Faction Power rank of your Godbound cult, at absolute most. Even in late game, a +4 or +5 bonus to basically everything relevant to combat is YUGE
Of course, this means Orrin won't get to use it since I plan for him to be a Free Divinity, but hey, what can ya do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I would also advise to avoid gifts that are flat bonuses as much as possible, since Godbound itself makes a point to try and avoid that as it doesn't really align with the ruleset's more narrative-oriented design philosophy, but that's all up to you.

3 ppl attacking this thing in my other game took it down in 4 rounds, but that was with straight damage. As for how combat works, allies would normally go first, if not for Faster Than Thought. Allies roll a dexterity check (1d20+dex mod+level) to determine turn order. To use a physical attack, roll attack (1d20+str mod or dex mod if it's ranged). Then roll damage if the attack roll matches or exceeds the target's AC. As for the skullosaur's attack... Critical hit. Crit confirmation isnt done in this game right? So, damage is doubled. Nvm the 16. Familiarizing myself with the system. 7 + str mod = 12. doubled is 24. is the normal damage reduction done after you double it? If so, then 8 damage. I'm gonna read up oncritical hits. There is a chance it deals 6. I think it's 6.

Painful Memories [Lesser]
On Turn - Commit Effort
The Godbound overwhelms a victim with the memory of physical pain or emotional agony, fresh as if it were in the moment. Their gaze becomes a weapon with a 200' range doing a 1d10 damage die against thinking creatures, including animals, save for those who have never actually experienced suffering. Against humans and other sentient life, it always does at least 1 point of damage, even on a miss. A target reduced to zero hit points may commit suicide or simply collapse in helpless agony; the power alone cannot kill.
So if I understand this correctly, in any scene where Caesura commits effort she can attack a target for 1d10 (... mental? Emotional?) damage. It's a gaze attack, so she... doesn't have to roll to hit? Or rolls to hit with d20+Int? The text goes on to talk about what happens if you miss, but how do you miss an attack that just involves looking at the target? Anyway, so she rolls 1d10 damage, then it goes through this table:
Damage Roll Damage Taken 1 or less None 2 – 5 1 point 6 – 9 2 points 10 or more 4 points
And for this power, even if you roll a 1 (or somehow miss looking at someone?) you still do 1 damage. I notice you're adding Strength to your total, so you rolled a 7, added 5, got a 12, and 12 is '10 or more' on the table, so 4 damage? Do mental attacks add Intelligence or something to damage?
Sizniche said:
