God damn it, I need help with a new roleplay !

BDark

Three Thousand Club
Roleplay Type(s)
I was planning on starting a roleplay but, honestly, I have no idea what it should be about. I need suggestions people, I need inspiration !

So here are a few points that should be noted -

  • Satyrs and Gryphons will be two major races, maybe humans too.
  • Wars are cliche, but wars that already occurred or that would be prevented are good.
  • The roleplay starts in a tavern.
  • It will be medieval-fantasy.
  • We will probably need about five roleplayers or so.
  • Needs a good magic system which I might also need help working on.
  • It will be based off Ancient Greece and a little Medieval England... I know they existed at different times, don't judge me !

Thanks for taking time to read this, guys. Have a nice day !

I might name it after the main character, Areisius the Satyr, honestly

Well, the first thing you have to figure out is where the conflict lies. Most rps are man vs. man, so we have two or more factions who are in conflict. Usually war, but I see you want to avoid this trope.

The other popular conflict is man vs. nature. Maybe the characters are being threatened by some sort of outside force? A threat the characters will have to work together to avoid, such as a war? Since they meet at a tavern, maybe they're all about to go on some sort of important quest? Maybe they're trying to find something, or someone? A lot Greek myths have young heroes going on a quest. They might be looking for something, like the Argonauts were looking for the Golden Fleece. You can also add smaller conflicts along the way.

Now for the magic system, you're gonna need to think about what sort of magic you want. One popular type is magic based on the elements: fire, water, earth, lightning, etc. There's mental magic, which includes telekinesis and telepathy. There's summoning magic, which borrows power from something either summoned directly from another plane or bound to an object like an amulet. There's transformative magic, like shapeshifting and invisibility, anything that affects your or something else's shape or appearance. There's even science-based magic like alchemy and herbalism. I'm sure there's more I haven't thought of as well.

The only example of magic in Greek mythology I can think of right now is transformative. Circe turns sailors into pigs, the gods change their shape at will. I believe satyrs could also change their shape to appear human.

Once you figure out what sort of magic you want, you might want to create a number system. Maybe casting a spell costs a certain amount of energy, or "mana". Players should probably have a limited amount of spells at their disposal.

That's all I got for now. Good luck with your rp!

I laughed a bit, because as you can see, you're already waist deep in cliches. (^U^) But that's perfectly ok, anything familiar can be spun into something fresh and exciting. Let's delve into some questions.

1. In terms of scope and scale, how big would like your RP to be? Will it center around a single city, town, or countryside; or will it promote & support world exploration? Also, will the main conflict mostly just affect the players, or is it a much bigger threat, like world wide destruction?

2. Will the adventure require heroes (players will need to be relatively moral) or will it support all shades and stripe of characters?

3. What kind of conflict would you like to pit the players against? Physical, political, mystical, psychological?

4. Any particular reason the RP should start in a tavern?

5. How dark (mature/gritty) would you like to shoot for in terms of tone? Tolkienish?

Must you quote me when I've just misspelt waist? (8))
Oh yes, I noticed but I didn't edit it out of the quote for reasons.... Wait, are you flirting with me ?

Okay, now I must try to think of something good for the roleplay but I'm just out of ideas.
