GM'ing tips?

So. There's this site I RP on a bunch that's chat based, I have a fresh new setting nearing completion and I want to RP it.

The issue is, I don't have any clue as to how I should keep the RP going? From previous experience when I start rooms, they almost always die off QUICK because everything melts down into basic character interaction, and people get bored (I guess).

 I have a current event page, hopefully that'll give the people some way to go in terms of plot but..Eh.

Your thoughts?

Also. Tips for writing faster? I feel as if I'm always keeping people waiting while I type.

I use discord, since it'll run in browser and you can create multiple text channels to easily sort OOC, main RP, and other threads

Same here man. And @usuka, You can also recruit other people as Admins or Moderators (depends on role name and powers given) to help you manage the roleplayers.
