Futuristic Nexarian Empire Lore

Skylord Nexus

Dabbler in the Dark Arts
The Nexarian Empire:
The Nexarian Empire came into being approximately 50,000 years ago when a group of advanced beings known as the Creators chose the planet Regulus and the species inhabiting it as a base for some form of experiment. To this day Imperial scholars and archaeologists have been unable to find any evidence or information alluding to the purpose of this experiment in spite of the fact that many of their labs remained intact on the planet millennia after they left. Before they left, the Creators gifted the race bellow with advanced technologies and a leader, this leader was Lucius Tiberius Nexus and he was a half-breed between Creator and the native species. This half-breed quickly united the peoples of Regulus under his rule, leading him to become the first Emperor, to signify this change, the planet was renamed Nexaria and the people became known as Nexarians.

Perhaps the greatest technology gifted to, the now, Nexarian people by the creators was that of interdimensional travel, this technology allowed the empire to spread its influence over the Multiverse. Since that time, through intimidation, political 'intrigue' and a score of impressive military conquests, the Empire now controls roughly 40% of the known Multiverse. As the Empire grew so did their questionable morals, and over the millennia, the Nexus dynasty became know for turning out some of the most cruel tyrants and brilliant tactical minds in history as it became tradition of all imperial children to become proficient with as many weapons as possible, and be able to learn/create brilliant military strategies.

Every empire does however possess a small, cutely grotesque underbelly, in the empire's case, it was rather large. Likely, the worst aspect of the empire is the way it treats its lower class: The nobles live lavish lives, civilians and high ranking military members enjoy a somewhat comfortable life, however for most others, the empire is a cruel place. High taxes, lack of public service, compulsory military service to be used as fodder, the list goes on, this treatment however has lead to a growing hatred for the nobility, which in turn had lead to open rebellion. Most rebel factions are quickly dealt with by peacekeepers, however, some larger factions have been able to evade the Imperial dragnet for now.

House Nexus:
Emperor Solarian Titus Nexus II:
King Silas.jpg
Age: 5872 yrs
Personality/Backstory: In his early years, Solarian was known to be a charming young man, caring and compassionate. He would often be observed spending time in the lower levels of Nexaria, observing the lower class people and making notes of what troubled them, as well as theorising on how to fix them. This mentality continued into his slightly older years, after becoming Emperor and saw too it that many small changes were made to improve the quality of life for the middle class. This would all change in his later years, however.

Leading up to him becoming immortal, Solarian seemed to change for no reason, gone were his attempts to further help the lower classes, he instead focused on an increase to imperial firepower and fleet size, ravaging many planets to the point of destruction for their resources, this was not the only change, however. His personality also changed over the years, he became a lot more cold, stoic, and strict, seeming to lose all care for anything except building a great legacy, no matter whose blood had to be spilled to get there.

Arch-Prince Lucius Solarian Nexus IV:
1aa5b6b45557e68b480acf8e178e8948.png
Age:5700 yrs

Personality/Backstory: In stark contrast to his Father, Lucius is a rather eccentric individual with a kind and bubbly personality, as well as being intelligent and witty; his personality can however swiftly change to that of a more serious one when the time requires, this doesn't happen very often. Lucius is rather controversial in the Imperial court, or at least the few times he's there, as he is openly opposed to his Father's rule, and in fact, the rule of an Emperor all together believing that a democracy is the best way to ensure equality to everyone in the Empire. This belief has created a firm hatred between himself and most of the nobility, though none of the nobility will say anything openly for fear of retribution.

Though his political pursuits are almost always met with failure, when it comes to matters of the mind he is second to none. His insanely high IQ has lead to him making leaps and bound in technology, it is predicted that within the first 100 years of his life he had advanced technology in the Empire by approximately 300 years. This level of genius has lead to him being heralded as the smartest man in the multiverse. It is believed however that Lucius actually restricts his discoveries being given to the Empire, and in fact, spoon-feeds them tech in order to keep them at the same level as over nations.

Prince Dargo Varian Nexus:
44053c6171368c3adeb5b209b5088482c86c1ff8_hq.jpg

Age: 5700
Personality/Backstory: Dargo is, by all accounts, a complete psychopath with an anger management problem, working under him is the most dreaded job in the Empire. The prince in a sick and twisted man who takes no small amount of joy in torturing his enemies and those who fail him, in the most painful way possible. When angered he will often lash out at people or objects resulting in their destruction. Dargo is however deathly smart with a military mind that can only be matched by few.

Dargo has only one goal, to become Emperor, and to become Emperor he needs to be the Arch-Prince. Over almost six millennia, Dargo had tried constantly to kill Lucius while he's away from the Empire for fear of the repercussions, however, at every turn he has been stopped by the very man he hunted. This string of constant failure has only served to exponentially increase his anger, his insanity and his hatred for his older twin brother.

The Arch-Council:
The Arch-Council is the Emperor's innermost circle, consisting of the most skilled and trusted Nobles in the Empire. Each member oversees a vital part of the Empire and is personally responsible for ensuring it continues to work as efficiently as possible. The roles within the council are Lord Admiral, Lord Treasurer, Lord Minister of Science, Lord Inquisitor, Lord General, and Lord President. Once a Noble is given this position they have it until they die... or retire, but they generally die first.

The Lord Admiral is responsible for the production and command of the various Imperial fleets, as well as choosing whom they are to be commanded by, and where they are to be at any one moment. Due in times of war, it is expected that the Lord Admiral take command of the Emperor's flagship and make the most tactical decisions within a battle unless otherwise commanded by the Emperor.

The Lord Treasurer, as the name might suggest, is responsible for the Empire's economy and trade. It is the role of the Treasurer to decide on the amount of funding every aspect of the Empire gets, as well as to negotiate large trade deals the Empire has. This being said, The Emperor has access to all these funds and have the final say in how they are used.

The Lord Minister of Science is responsible for overseeing the technological development of the Empire. The Lord Minister decides what projects should be worked on that will provide the best results. Whoever is in this role acts like more of an overseer for the tech labs as it is decided by the entire Arch-council what tech should be worked towards. Due to conflicts of interest with the current Lord Minister, a new temporary position on the Arch-council has been opened for the Empire's more dubious biotech divisions.

The Lord Inquisitor is responsible for the Empire's spy network. They send out spies at the Emperor's behest to every corner of the multiverse and compile annual reports for the Emperor to read. They are also in charge of Imperial assassins sent out to track and find traitors, enemy leaders, or troublesome nobles.

The Lord General is responsible for the command of the Empire's military forces, Lord Commanders will often take orders directly from him or give important reports to him. The Lord General is also typically the head of the Imperial guard and so never leaves the Emperor's side, making the position one of the most influential in the Empire.

The Lord President is officially responsible for the wellbeing of the people, however, a more apt description would be that they are responsible for keeping the people in line. The Lord President is for all extensive purposes, the heart of the Imperial propaganda machine, working to sedate the constant discontent within the lower classes of the Empire.

The Councilmen:

Lord Admiral Alistair Ventrius:
eed660739ccc796a21e5ac781f030155.jpg

Age: 5873 yrs
Personality/Backstory:
Alister grew up as the only childhood friend of Solarian, a friendship that has lasted the test of time. In their early years the two would bicker a lot over Imperial policy due to their conflicting beliefs, Alister had always believed that the Empire should stay on its current course and that if they tried to make every citizen happy it would ultimately lead the Empire to ruin, a sentiment he still believes to this day.

House Ventrius had always had a history of turning out great fleet commanders and Lord Admirals, mostly due to the large number of cybernetic enhancements they possessed, allowing them to mentally control ships, as well as always see inside them. Alister followed in the footsteps of his predecessors and was given the title of Lord Admiral and has since become the greatest in Imperial history.

Lord Treasurer Balthasar Gelt:
royal_guard_by_jombu-d52ac8m.jpg
Age: 126 yrs
Personality/Backstory: Balthasar's personality is about as non-existent as you can get, whenever he speaks there is no emotion in his voice, nor change in his body movement. Balthasar never speaks unless it's absolutely necessary, and when he does he keeps it as short and concise as possible. He is however extremely methodical and hard-working, in his short tenure as Lord Treasurer, the Empire has seen a larger than usual increase to its income.

Balthasar is the only living member of House Gelt, and, is in fact, its only member ever. 42 years ago Balthasar and House Gelt just appeared out of nowhere as a great house and swiftly filled the gap left by the previous Lord Treasurer who died under mysterious circumstances. These events have led to numerous rumours about the young Lord in the Imperial court, none of which he seems to acknowledge.

Lord Minister of Science Arch-Prince Lucius Tiberius Nexus IV:
The fact that Lucius was made Lord Minister came as no surprise to anyone, after all the role was basically created for someone of his intelligence, what would surprise people would be what he attempted to do with the position. Tired of the horrific experiments being carried out by the Bio-Tech divisions of the Empire, Lucius tried everything in his power to have them shut down, only to be met by his Father's resistance each time. The issue eventually became so bad that the Emperor created a new temporary seat in the Arch-Council for a Lord Minister of Bio-Science, who would exist for as long as Lucius was Lord Minister.

Lord Minister of Bio-Science Dalin Crux:
Acuitor_Mech-Assassin.1.jpg
Age:???
Personality/Backstory: Dalin is perhaps the only person in the Empire with more rumours about him than Balthasar. Unlike the other members of the Arch-Council, 'Lord' Crux isn't of noble birth, in fact, he's been the defacto-head of Bio-Tech for as long as anyone can remember, it was due to this long tenure that he was made Lord Minister.

Dalin is also without a shadow of a doubt, the most sadistic man in the Empire, often kidnapping citizens for his experiments into melding together robotics and flesh to create unholy abominations, rumour has it that he even experimented on himself. Perhaps the scariest thing about the man, however, is his fanatical devotion to Prince Dargo, with him likely being Dargo's most loyal confidant.

Lord Inquisitor Varian Amberstar:
62656b0707d9943127da1b7e71b721de.jpg
Age: 5816 yrs
Personality/Backstory: Varian is the biggest flirt in the Nobility, he has a reputation for short relationships and one-night stands with many types of people, males, females, nobles, citizens, even visiting dignitaries. There are rumours within the imperial court that the only reason he became Lord Inquisitor was because he's the Emperor's brother in law, the validity of the rumour is only increased by the fact that he doesn't seem to care about the job, and seems to be detrimental to Imperial Intelligence.

All being said, Varian is perhaps equally as eccentric as his nephew, Lucius, and the two seem to get on with each other better than Lucius does with his father. Varian also shares his nephew's beliefs about the Empire and how bad the inequality is which cause him and the Emperor to constantly but heads.

Lord General Janus Arcadius:
bealdor-3-star-1.jpg

(Wings not included)
Age: 5698 yrs
Personality/Backstory: Since the beginning of the Empire an Arcadius has always stood guard at the Emperor's side, ready to lay down their life for their Emperor if required, Janus was no different. Janus spent his years growing up friends with Lucius whilst also learning how to best protect him when he became Emperor, however, this task would turn out not to be for Lucius. When his father was killed in an assassination attempt against Solrac, Janus had to take up the mantle of protecting the Emperor, a task he excelled at. In his later years, he would prove himself worthy of becoming head of the Imperial Guard, and later Lord General.

Janus' relationship with Lucius fell apart after he became Solrac's bodyguard however, as his loyalty to the Emperor and dedication to his duty seemed to be more important than his morals and though while still kind and understanding, he will strike down anyone his Emperor orders him to, no matter what.

Lord President Rhazien Crowley:
Faust_-_Noble_Pirate_Captain.jpg
Age: 2364 yrs
Personality/Backstory: Rhazien is extremely shallow and self-absorbed, believing himself to be the most 'fabulous' man ever born. In spite of his constant, annoying bragging, Rhazien is surprisingly manipulative, able to bend the truth with ease which is the main reason why he was made Lord President.

Rhazien is also the embodied definition of all bark and no bite, so while he may boast about his superior set of skills, he is, in fact, a bumbling idiot and it is rumoured in the Imperial court that he is only on the Arch-Council because there was no-one else who could at the time, others say the Emperor is just waiting for an excuse to kill him.

Imperial Great Houses:
Every society has its pillars, the fundamental building blocks which it stands on, in the case of the Empire there are fifty. Fifty great houses, never any more, never any less, these are the houses that control every aspect of the Empires' logistics, and govern a portion of the Empire each, though each focuses on a general area, these areas are:

-Military
-Agriculture
-Navy
-Production
-Refinement

Military: Houses in charge of this aspect of the Empire do as the name suggests, they control the military and are generally military leaders. The houses are responsible for the training and deployment of military forces around the empire, it is due to this that it is one of the hardest roles to fulfil as it requires constant communication with different Lord Commanders and in some cases the Lord General.

Agriculture: Every empire needs food, and being as large as it is, the Empire needs a lot of it. Great houses in charge of agriculture are responsible for overseeing the growth of food on the Empires numerous agricultural planets, as well as overseeing the logistics of having the food transported to all imperial worlds.

Navy: Houses in charge of the Imperial Navy are responsible for the production of the Empires powerful warships, tasked with constantly pumping of these vital gears in the Empires' war machine. Many of them are also responsible for commanding fleets in times of war, though currently this task is dominated by the large numbers of house Ventrius under the Lord Admiral.

Production: These Houses are responsible for overseeing the Empire's many industrial worlds, ensuring that the factories always run at maximum efficiency. This role is undoubtingly one of the most important in the Empire as the industrial worlds are responsible for the mass production of everything, from the mundane to the insane.

Refinement: These Houses are not responsible for overseeing one permanent area, and are instead responsible for overseeing the ravaging of other universes natural resources and their refinement. The processes used with generally leave the planets barren of life, making this one of the more morally dubious roles for a Nobel house, though by Nexarian standards it's nothing.
