It has been over 30 years since Peter Vankmen, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore successfully averted the apocalypse when they defeated the entity known as Gozer who at that point had taken the form of the stay puff marshmallow man(this incidentally caused their stock value to skyrocket).
It was at this point, in 1984 that the United states government realized the potential threats otherworldly, supernatural visitors could pose to this world, and accordingly contracted and funded the then small operation so that they may be even more prepared for the future.
In those 30 years, it is unheard of to not have a Ghostbusters chapter house in just about any medium sized city, the big ones have even more than that...
Unfortunately, this has also coincided with an ambient increase in supernatural activity nationwide.
The situation is no different in San francisco......
