Other Ghost Stories

Well it's a personal one, I remember one time my dad said that he saw something really scary at work at night. He was cleaning up and the place was very very big. Imagine a school lunch room but the tables go a long way and the ceiling is high. Well he was sweeping and he got near this elevator. He looked up and what looked to be a hand. It launched at him and it scared the literal piss out of him. Later on he found out a man had died in that elevator years before by falling down the shaft. He said that some people say till this day weird stuff always happens if you are alone there.

When I was in high school, I used to live in a large house that was set back in the trees, far out of view of the main road nearby. My room was an add-on to the original house, so it wasn't connected to the rest of the AC system and was too hot to sleep in in the summers. I spent most summer nights in the den, which was a large room next to the kitchen where we kept a couch and TV.

During the summer, I often stayed up all night watching real crime TV shows until maybe 2 or 3 in the morning. One night, when it was well past midnight, I saw out of the corner of my eye a shadow gliding out of the hallway and into the kitchen. Now, my mother is a small woman (just a little shorter than me, with the same build), and she used to wear this oversized men's bathrobe that draped all the way to the ground, which made her look like she was gliding as she walked across the room. I immediately thought the shadow was her; it was her size and shape, and she'd often wake up in the middle of the night and walk, in the dark, to the kitchen for a glass of water. I had something I needed to tell her before I forgot, so I called out to her to get her attention. There was no reply. I called again. Still nothing. That's when I realized I hadn't heard the cabinets open, nor did I see the light from the fridge being opened or hear her rummaging around for a drink. I got up and peeked side the kitchen. There was no one there.

I didn't think anything of it at the time. It was a little creepy, but I was always a paranoid child, and it wasn't unusual for me to see and hear things when it got really late and I got tired. I chalked it up to my imagination. The murder shows were getting to me.

But that wasn't the last time I saw the shadow. On at least two other occasions, around the same time of night, I saw the same thing: a small 'cloaked' figure sweeping in from the hallway and into the kitchen. It had no features - just a black silhouette against the dark kitchen background. It usually happened out of the corner of my eye, so I usually thought it was a trick of my mind. But on one occasion, I was staring directly at the hallway (thinking about the previous occurrences) when it appeared. There was no mistaking it that time.

Still, I was skeptical to believe it was anything real. I grew up obsessed with the paranormal -- ghosts, aliens, Bigfoot, you name it -- and so I didn't want to fall back on those silly superstitions and jump to wild conclusions. After all, this house was newer than any of the other places where I'd lived, and it was the first home in which I didn't get this heavy feeling in my gut that something wasn't right about it. I later learned that someone had died off the main road when I found a cross on the outskirts of our property, but I tried not to let that shake me. Ghosts didn't stay in random homes just because they died on the street nearby. I let it go, and after a few years it became almost like a childish dream to me.

That was until a few years ago. My family had long moved out of the house, and I away from my family. I was visiting one day, and the subject of ghosts came up (not unusual; my little sister was reporting a lot of scary stuff at the time, so we talked about it often. That's another story for another day). Off-handedly, I recounted the story of the shadowed figure to my mom. I hadn't really told anyone about it because I sincerely thought I was imagining it. But as I finished speaking, my mom looked at me, and in all seriousness said:

"You saw it too? I always thought that shadow was you."

Back in Thailand, I lived in the northern countryside (you know where this is going). I was on my way back from a friend's party, piss drunk(of course), missing my wallet, phone and was walking along an isolated country road off the main road which was never really busy at 3:30 in the morning. Normally id get her to drop me off but his car was in the shop. So I was walking by myself and I thought I was being watched so I turned around only to find nothing there. So this was a continuous cycle of turning around every 5 minutes which was freaking the shit out of me but it got even worse as I passed the temple near my house when I was about to go on the temple grounds (its a shortcut) I heard like a low pitch wailing that kept increasing in volume. At this point, I was shitting myself and sprinted to my house but I swear I heard my name being called. Not my new name but my name at birth which freaks me out now that I think of it. You might think I'm bullshitting you and you should take this with a massive pinch of salt but I swear I heard some weird ass noises from the temple

Oh god, that sounds like something straight out of a nightmare..
