The System
The GM RPs the mysterious entity known as "The System." Only the player characters (PCs) can interact with it. The NPCs cannot. The System could potentially be connected to the immense Master Portal that hovers in the sky. The Master Portal can be seen from any point around the world and not just over Korea. The System grants PCs access to special abilities that no one else can access. Why are PCs the only ones able to interact with The System? No one knows. Perhaps they were chosen by it. The System and the Master Portal are both lovecraftian aspects that have no explanation of how they came to be. Instead, they are just there and your character just like everyone else in the world continues their life around the phenomena.

• Not limited by their rank and can always ascend to higher ranks by growing stronger.
• Can awaken twice.
• Can hide their worn gear from view of others.
• Receive special abilities from The System.
• Can use "Sense."
• Can communicate with monsters at certain Intelligence levels.
• Can become a unique hybrid class.
• Can change job class at D rank.
Non-playable Characters
• Stuck with the job class they were given
• Can only awaken once.
• Cannot see their stats.
• Cannot become stronger just more experienced.
• They must carry their equipment because they don't have access to a special inventory.
• Cannot interact with The System or System Store.
Awakening
An awakening is a special event that randomly happens for NPCs, while for PCs, it happens when they reach D rank. During an awakening, a person can randomly jump to a higher rank. For NPCs, this awakening happens once. For PCs, it happens twice. If your character awakens at a rank lower than the current rank, then their rank doesn't change. It only changes if they awaken at a higher rank. PCs will have a chance to awaken a second time once they reach the next rank. If during the first awakening they reach S rank, then they cannot awaken higher and they cannot re-awaken (the second awakening). If during the first awakening they reach A rank and grow into S rank, then they cannot reawaken.
Hunters Association
Every country has a Hunters Association (HA). Their purpose is to monitor the amount of "S ranks" in the world for S ranks possess a power equivalent to weapons of mass destruction. The HA and governments will pay S ranks as a reward for their services when closing S-rank dungeons and dealing with other world threats that come out of S-rank portals. Even with payment from their respective governments, S-ranks are still heavily scrutinized for potential corruption. The HA of each country are also independent of their country's government for it is also their job to ensure a government won't use their S-ranks to subjugate other countries. While there have been treaties written, paper is paper, and therefore, the HA exists to monitor all threats to include S-ranks and all portal dungeons.
Because the HA is comprised of human beings, they realize that they can't catch every portal in existence. They created a Hunter app that notifies all citizens about portal dungeons, hoping to deter anyone who is too weak to handle the threat from going near them. The HA are also the ones who often show up to a portal dungeon and use a powerful mana crystal that has the ability to detect the magical energy radiating from the portal. The higher the concentration, the higher the rank.
