Mothership - Fatte Tunalia

This Chapter of Isekai Hell is a wet dive rp that focuses on a handful of characters going to visit the underwater civilization of the Continental Lake. Zeke and Loke have made contact with a thorough information broker as it pertains to certain magical/mechanical secrets pertaining to the underwater habitats used by the under sea sentients for hosting guests or being dry on occasion. The guy wouldn't part with the information willingly, however, but Zeke's relatively recent heist job opened another opportunity. The broker was willing to let Zeke and his inventor in on the info he wanted in exchange for dirt on the customs officer over the Crustanton port, the largest one in the underwater City. Security would be incredibly tight, but Info Broker would be able to get Zeke and his boys through black orb tests with wrist accessories. they would just need to use the hand with the accessory on it to work. Was important they didn't use the wrist bands more than necessary since they would break from too many black orb scans. It would then fall to Zeke and those he brought with him to grab the record disc in the port office swarming with port officials.

Others will have more modest goals of sight seeking in one of the many wonders of the work, Crustanton City. Best seafood in the world. Arguably the most attractive variety of aquatic beastmen as well. The best aquatic attractions were available as well. For those with time or money, it was almost as tourist welcoming as the Duchy.

For others, there was yet more purpose to be found in delving so far down. Records uncovered in old libraries tell of a time when the continental lake was smaller than it once was and some of it used to be dry land. Its stories like those and others that helped propagate the rumors that the library of Crustanton was one such library that once knew a time when Crustanton was called by a different name and resided on the surface. Whether true or false, the prospect of such ancient texts tucked away from the rest of the world was too tempting and many scholars found themselves spending exorbitant amounts of money for just one trip to the Crustanton Archives to uncover whatever awaited them.

Everyone in the party has signed up for a trip to the underwater city and are presently on the gargantuan fish vessel Mothership - Fatte Tunalia. Their trip would take them around to several major ports of call before finally reaching present time in rp. Concluding their round trip to pick up visitors, Mothership would begin her descent into deep waters and leave the coasts behind. The party would be warned of Mothership's decent and would be encouraged to hold on as the ship noticeably leaned and varying water currents tugged on the fish. Fishmen attendants would be circulating among the passengers and crew to hand out what looked like a piece of purple seaweed. Everyone accustomed to land was encouraged to eat it immediately and suck on it as long as possible to do so. Was called "horgorh" in the aquatic beast tongue. The taste and texture of the piece was much like it appeared: oddly warm, damp seaweed with a planty flavor and chewiness that released bursts of sea water flavor too. However, there was an extra flavor that could be loosely described as the flavor of static. The consumption of the 'treat' was explained to be a method for helping the body cope with the deep sea chill and pressure. Although it wasn't in the schedule for anyone to go swimming, Mothership would be gradually acclimatizing her body and everyone inside her to deep sea conditions whether they were ready and able or not. The result, all those that dutifully sucked the horgorh till it fell apart in the mouth had a relatively easy time as their ears popped and their body felt pressed and air came with a more effort. Those that didn't either didn't need it or started wailing as things became uncomfortable. At least until it became too hard to breath.

Mother ship was a massive fish and, as a result, a massive ship. Most of her 1000ft in length were accessible via chambers and corridors that went through her body. The multi day journey required sleeping cabins, eating chambers, and common areas for passing the time. She also came with several chambers near her exterier scales that was thin enough you could see through to the dark, lake depths beyond. Occasionally, fish that could glow or other fish vessels like the fatte Tunalia would appear. At night, the passengers would be lulled to sleep by mothers heart and during the day awoken by the shifting of her gut contents. The crew of the Fatte Tunalia were primarily fishmen with mariner humans sprinkled among their number. The party would be among dozens of passengers all speaking varying languages from all over the continent to reflect the drawing power of Crustanton and the other underwater cities. Although everyone likely knew common with few exceptions, most preferred to speak in their more exclusive tongues to have public conversations be as private as possible.

First scene will involve everyone placing themselves somewhere in Mothership and describing how they were spending their time on the trip. Bioluminescent lights within Mothership would keep the interior lit during the daytime in a bluegreen hue so guests wouldn't lose all sense of time while in the depths.

Victorique Sopheana

Victorique sighed. She'd made a mistake before. Getting information from a library was only as useful as the amount of information you could actually read from the books. That's where she failed. Speaking only [Common] and [Sylvan] had limited her investigation. Never again. It's why she'd spent some time learning not one, not two, not three, but all four other main languages. Even [Monster] and [Analog]. Although having an [Eidetic Memory] helped, it'd still been a considerable effort. Then again, she was already getting some of that effort repaid. It was quite fun listening in on the conversations of other species aboard this 'ship', after all.

That said, her main purpose here was a lot more professional. She wanted to find that rumoured library. After all, this world still had secrets to uncover. Perhaps Crustaton's library housed some of those. Other than learning languages, she'd prepared by checking whether or not the laws in the place she'd be going to differed much from the other countries (Law D), just in case she'd need to prepare herself for trouble.

The fish vessel was weird to her. Was it a fish? Was it a vessel? Nope. Fish vessel. She just couldn't get used to it no matter how much she tried. Although she was pretty quick, even in water, she didn't want to test the waters too much, so she followed along with instructions. Holding onto things, eating weird seaweed stuff, you name it. Other than that and listening in on conversations, she'd spent some time exploring the ship. Like, how did this work? Her internal investigator wanted to get to the bottom of this fish-vessel mystery. How could the thing be both? Surely it was just a fake fish or something? Or maybe the vessel part was magic? She'd check out whichever public areas she could access (and ask to please be let in the non-public once) just to figure out more on how this worked.

Between listening in on conversation with her newly squired language knowledge, learning what she could about the ship and going over what she'd been able to find on laws, she'd kept herself pretty busy thus far. Even so, she did feel like a change of place would be nice. It's why she figured she'd spent this moment trying to ask if she could have a chat with the captain. Just for fun. Perhaps he'd have a few free moments where he'd entertain a guest? Perhaps she could even use her reputation to get him to talk to her. Either way, it was worth a shot.

After having read as much as she was allowed in the Duchy's library after her little venture (and after firmly being prompted to leave after her allotted time had expired), Phoebe was more than ready to start on another adventure, having signed up for a trip to one underwater city. The prospect of a civilization existing under the seas was one that had always lingered in her juvenile imagination in her previous life, so the prospect of getting to visit one was pretty exciting. Add on the prospect of a potential learning opportunity from the rumors of Crustanton’s library and there was no way Phoebe would sit this one out, though hopefully she would be able to read some of the material.

While waiting at port, one question lingered in the pink haired mage’s mind: how would they even get there? From what she knew of the world, the technology level seemed to be around a medieval period. Did this world have submarines? It didn't take long for her questions to be answered as a massive fish creature emerged at the port. Phoebe looked at it with a bit of awe, she didn't know what to expect but it certainly wasn't this! After boarding, the descent into the depths was... an experience alright. Though consuming the purple seaweed looking item was a bit of a weird sensation, at least it helped her body get used to the pressure that comes with being deep underwater.

After getting things settled in her quarters, taking a walk around the vessel was next on the agenda. There seemed to be quite a bit of people on the vessel, not really surprising given the size of it. As she walked on, she overheard a great diversity of languages being spoken by the other passengers and crew mates, not being able to understand the majority of conversations being had except for those in Terran or Common. While she didn't really care about the content of these conversations, it was really something to hear practically every major language on the continent present on the vessel.

After a while of walking, Phoebe found herself at a chamber where she could see out towards the lake depths. There was something oddly relaxing, yet a tad bit terrifying, about environment beyond the vessel's scaly hull. As the pink haired mage stared out into the depths, her mind started wandering, beginning with a reflection of what she'd read in the Duchy's library, then to thoughts and ideas for a few new spells, before eventually transitioning into wondering what the city they were heading to was like.

Calliope
CaliopeIH.jpg

Calliope stared out at the endless darkness of the abyss just on the other side of the translucent fleshy membrane. She wasn't sure what made her more nervous, the thin wall of skin separating her from from the crushing cold, or the fact that she was inside a giant fish. She loved fish, most of her favorite foods were fish, and they were a blast to stare at inside of aquariums, but this was too much for her. She turned away from the viewing "window" and began to walk back toward her room. The way the floor gave just slightly, yet another reminder of her piscine imprisonment, sent shivers down her spine as she walked slowly and cautiously back to the private cabins. She regretted deciding to make this journey already.

When she reached her room, she carefully climbed onto the padding of the "bed" careful not to touch the parts of it that belonged to the mothership. She pulled out her journal and went over her reasons for coming:
  • Lantern Fish Bioluminescent Organs
  • Abyssal Seaweed
  • Oni Shark teeth
  • Celestial Coral
These were the ingredients that shouldn't be hard to obtain. You could find them on the surface, if you knew where to look, but the combination of taxes, tariffs, transportation costs, and scarcity, drove the prices up. Down here, in Crustanton, she should be able to get them in bulk, for a reasonable price. But the real treasure, the reason that ultimately lead her to set foot inside the giant fish, was Prismatic Lobster Shells. If she could just get one, it would make it all worth it. The price was through the roof though, she'd have to find a way to take a stroll, or swim, outside the city and find one herself.

Laying on the padding and enjoying the gentle motion of the ship made her feel tired. She hadn't slept well, even after eating that nasty purple seaweed. She thought about her potion cart and her Horse, Mirabelle, currently being held in the stables of the port town she departed from, eagerly awaiting her return. Putting her journal away and stretching out on the padding, she curled up and napped for several hours. When she awoke, it was nearly meal time. She headed to the nearest common room to await the breakfast announcement.

Fish.

Amongst all of the various foods and delicacies in the world - both here and back home - Baharius was the type to always prefer dining on the finest seafood over the finest cut of landlubber meat. Not that he disliked meat in anyway, of course. After all, as a carnivore, his preference for steak, mutton, chops, and wings would always stand above the herbivorous confers, herbs, and greens alone; supplemented only with the occasional sweet fruit and baked goods if he was ever needed to satisfy an aching sweet tooth. However, the Spinosauridae were a family of theropods that naturally leaned towards a pescatarian diet; usually living near large bodies of fresh and/or salt waters. As a result, many tend to work as experienced anglers or fishmongers for their local communities. And if you were one of the lucky few that sported a paddle-like tail, you could even be an efficient spear-fisher!

Having grown up in a wetland-delta village of "Mekemkem" south of the Afroiyan continent, Baharius had been exposed to a whole manner and variety of aquatic cuisine. The local fish market carried most of their local stock, with a few imported elsewhere on the continent for variety sake. Their local stock included a variety of ray-finned fish such as Aidachar and Calamopleurus, alongside lobe-finned fish like the lungfish Neoceratodus and the giant coelacanths Mawsonia and Axelrodichthys. Sharks and other cartilaginous fish were also present in these waters, such as the hybodont Tribodus and the rarer mackrel shark Cenocarcharias, which included Baharius' favorite being the famous sawfish-relative Onchopristis. Its rich yet gamey taste was perfect when boiled and served in a hotpot of other vegetables and freshwater clams, a recipe his mama used to make when he was younger. Local crustacean variety was minimal, usually comprising of freshwater crayfish and shrimp, being commonly smoked or cooked in soups and jambalaya. Amphibians and smaller crocodilians were sometimes caught as well, though usually as bycatch or were killed to protect the village's fishing pens. No catch went to waste and they took only what they needed, never more. Needless to say, the Spinosaurian ate well during his stay and has considered Mekemkem in having the best aquatic cuisine he ever had.

So when someone back at at the Ryken Adventurer's Guild boldly claimed that the underwater city of Crustanton City had the best seafood in this world, Baharius couldn't help but want to judge it for himself. Carrying an appropriate amount of coin at his disposal, the saurian now finds himself traveling to his destination... inside a giant fish. How ironic. For his quest to eat fish, he'd have to be "eaten" by one in this so-called "rite of passage". It was an odd, yet strangely fitting, concept; though how they were able to achieve this still utterly mystified him. The whole thing felt as if it was straight out of a myth or fairytale. That being said, the descent has been surprisingly smooth so far, even amiss the mothership's constantly changing biological functions. The fishmen attendants onboard were an odd but kind bunch, urging everyone to suck on the purple piece of seaweed to ensure their transition to the depths would be a comfortable one. Baharius didn't mind the taste. In fact, water vegetables and plants were the only herbivorous foods he enjoyed consuming - especially when they were pickled.

For now, Baharius found himself looking out into the watery abyss in what he believed was the dining area, keeping quietly to himself as his mind wandered at all of the unique seafood delicacies he might eat in the city.

Cluilia had been using this trip as a sort of vacation to get away from the empire for a little bit. With the war going on and the bugs, it made the slave trade a little tedious. However, the family business would run itself; her father was still calling all the shots. The ambitious slave trader also thought it would be a good idea to see what this new part of the world had to offer. If she was lucky, she could probably find someone to sell her some of the local populace.

She spent the time at the ports walking around and taking in the sights, though she wasn't alone in this venture; she was flanked by 5 gladiators that were her personal guards. However, they were more brought along at her father's request than anything. So she didn't have much of choice in that matter, to say the least. Brushing some loose hair out of her face, she sat on a chair and looked up toward the sky, which was completely filled with water. She did find the whole place very interesting though she was here more for a chance to make a business trade. Even if she could secure criminals, they would still be profitable to someone somewhere.

With a sigh, she glanced around and noticed that there were more than fish people on this trip. She figured that it had to be advertised somewhere. But a profit made was good enough for her. However, she did have to admit that the strangest one that she saw was a giant lizard. Based on his appearance, he wasn't a slave by any means. Though she couldn't help but imagine the profit, he would be if she convinced him to enter servitude.

Standing up from her chair, she took a deep breath as she walked over toward the large lizardman, "Say you wouldn't be looking to uh have free lodging and food in exchange for work, right?" Cluilia smiled as she started to reach for one of the Baharius' arms. Her guards stayed a little distance away from the two. "You would certainly bring in a.....very good price," Cluilia stated with a warm smile on her face.

Flattery was one thing, but a slave of this size and power would be a nice addition. Though she fully intended to sell the creature to the highest bidder and what happened to him afterward, wasn't her problem. She was simply providing the people with the merchandise that they wanted. "The merchandise always sells very well; oops, did I say that out loud?" She chuckled before clasping her hands behind her back.

Jack Hayfield ecdsad.png

Earlier in the week, Jack was delivering some potions to the nice witches at the neighbouring shop. He had always been able to talk freely to them, as they treated him like an adult after they got to know him. They still thought he was cute though. One of them mentioned that she had signed up to go to some underwater city and that she wouldn’t be able to go because of her daughter’s cold. Jack happily volunteered to go and gather all of the things she needed while he was there.

That’s how the little centaur got here, so deep in the sea and getting farther and farther away from home. His legs shook, his hands firmly gripping a railing that was almost out of his reach as the mothership descended into deeper waters. He really loved the promise of exploration of any kind, but his stomach was starting to hurt from the stress of it all. Even with a purple seaweed treat, he still felt at unease so far below the surface. His kind usually were meant to go way above sea level, not go far down.

He had always dreamed his first adventure would be on some mountain peaks, or even a lush field or at worst a creepy haunted forest of some sort. Now he was walking down a slightly shifting hallway, trying not to notice the faintest movements the walls made as blood was pumped through the mothership. Jack thought it was wonderful, wonderfully terrifying. He stayed around the same areas in the time he was here, he liked to be in the outer area so he could see out into the sea.

He sat down once again in a mostly secluded area, his tail slightly moving as he watched the faint blurs of light out in the dark ocean faintly glow and flicker out of view every so often. If he got lucky, he would see another colossal vessel like the one he was on, or even wild deep sea fish. He would lose track of time, knowing that he might not ever see this again. His brain wondered as he hyperfocused on the guttural background noises, losing focus on the dim lights.

What awoke him out of his daydream was the sound of his own tummy rumbling. He hasn’t eaten in awhile. It took him more than a few minutes to travel to the dining area, especially since he had to tread carefully with all of the bigger creatures around. He was easily lured by the smell of food as he neared and he began skipping with joy all the way into the dining room. And, obviously straight into some huge most likely deadly creature that could rip him in two.

What?

Jack looked up, as he had bumped into something–or someone. A literal dinosaur creature. His ears flattened in fear, his little bell lightly jingling as he backed up. “My mistake…I’m very sorry. He took a few more steps back, grabbing his hair awkwardly as his face turned red as he grew less scared and more embarrassed that he had just bumped into someone and then almost pissed himself in fear at the sight of them. He then looked at the human who was having a conversation with the dino-man and chuckled lightly. “Sorry for interrupting…”

"Tch, damn fish. Just a little while longer boyo." He hummed to himself, keeping to his own. He knew he had those damn titles now, but as long as he kept his head low and minded his business, he'd keep it under wraps until the time to strike came. All he needed was a way to steal or replicate the device or magic that made it so these bubbles of air and preventative pressure could be applied to his own ship under way. He had Ingenium on the job of repairing the engine they stole, so now it was all a matter of getting the second component, and then there was no where he couldn't reach with his ship.

As much as he loved the water and exploration in general, there was something about the smell of fish that always just annoyed him. They were so salty, but still somehow reeking of sweat and vomit from what he could smell most of the time, and he hated that kind of fish smell. But this was all worth it if he could get his hands on what he came here for. That was when he saw a goat boy and a dinosaur with a woman on his arm, scoffing to himself at the absurdity of the situation. But then again, he'd seen much stranger in his time in space. Leviathans that could swim through the stars themselves, black holes swallowing whole civilizations at once, animals with 3 heads and only 1 limb, he'd seen plenty. The universe was truly a wonderful but odd place. The woman could stand to be a little less openly sinister. He supposed charisma and charm like his own was a rare gift.

"Loke, you got any idea where Orrius is?"

Baharius' moment of silence broke as he heard multiple footsteps approaching his direction. While he wouldn't turn right away, he knew he wasn't alone in the dining hall. He'd seen and heard several of the other passengers coming in upon taking a seat just a few minutes ago. And that didn't include the mothership's attendants either, which had a particular sound and rhythm to their steps as they hurried around taking care of their vessel and guests. A busy crew was a lively crew. These footsteps, in comparison, sounded different; oozing a sense of purpose and stride. And it wasn't caused by one pair of feet, but by multiple. Not too concerning for someone of his stature, but it nonetheless provided a peculiarly different vibe.

It wasn't until the feminine voice spoke that the saurian's scarred snout turned to face the person addressing him. "May I help you?" he asked the woman curiously. He observed the warm smiling, short-statured brunette with casual interest, noting her clean and organized attire as she asked him if he was looking for food and a temporary place to stay in exchange for work. Could she be a potential future employer? Atop with her claiming about him 'bringing a very high price' he believed there was good money to be made. She seemed to be a rather generous individual, someone Baharius could greatly benefit from.

Yet, there was something about her that felt off. Something the rugged saurian couldn't quite place his claw on.

As the woman reached towards one of his scaly arms, Baharius momentarily broke eye contact with the woman to gaze at the two individuals overseeing the situation just beyond her. Those two guards... wearing a particular set of armor. That's when he felt a brief shiver of cold spread down his sail. His expression hardened. He knew what kind of armor they wore... as did the weapons they wielded. He knew them from experience; a grueling, treacherous one at that. And this scene? The one he finds himself in?

Boy was it all too familiar.

The warm smile the woman put on now had an all new meaning. The saurian's gaze locked back on her, as she mentioned about the profits of merchandise... as if how well his image and likeness could sell. Even once she caught herself in the act, it was already too late. Baharius abruptly jerked his arm away before she could touch him, staring her down with a low grumble in his throat. "I am NOT for sale." he growled guardedly as he shifted back in his seat. As he did, he suddenly someone bump into his leg, causing only his eyes to peer down briefly to assess the incoming individual.

An innocent goat-boy. One who accidentally stumbled into their tense conflict and apologized for it. Nothing for him to worry about.

The saurian wouldn't say a word to him, aside from an acknowledging grunt. Still, his immediate attention was at the callous 'master'. Now Baharius was expecting the guards to come to her aid upon seeing tensions rise. Not that he could blame them. Had they been in any other place, he wouldn't hesitate to rip them all asunder. She, in particular, certainly didn't earn to be slain by his great sword - which was still lying against the wall in his quarters. She deserved worse - much worse. But now wouldn't be the time to extract that vengeance; even upon the very establishment he once "sold" himself into. After all, he already earned his freedom; having in a sense already sticking up to the brutal entertainment establishment. And now, the last thing he wanted to do here was make a violent scene. Still, he wanted to make himself clear on the matter that he wouldn't want to return to such a life... without needing to mention it in the first place.

"If you think I'm some ill-mannered brute you can order around with mere treats," Baharius rumbled lowly with what clearly felt like him pattering down his anger and disgust at the absolute gall of her statements, "Then I'm afraid you'll have to look elsewhere."

Loke, like Zeke, had those damn titles. It certainly would make things hard but so long as he kept his head down, he would be fine. It didn't seem to cause too many problems so far but he'd need to be careful while they were in the city. Most of the trip in the Mothership had been in his quarters or in counsel with Zeke. The information broker had gotten them their tickets in and with the wrist accessories being in good condition still, they were in the clear for now. All they had to do in return was grab a record disc from the security office once they were done. All in a day's work right? "We're nearly there, Captain." He agreed, almost placating The Captain. Something he had learned fast was Zeke's distaste for fish which, at first, he found ironic. A pirate, he figured, would eat primarily seafood. As they got closer and shared their histories, it made more sense. As someone from the stars, Zeke’s disgust with seafood seemed more reasonable. Taking his prior physiology would take entirely other interpretations of how he sensed the world into account as well but Loke didn’t have the time to think about all the ways.

When they were given the seaweed, Loke ate it as he was instructed. That coupled with his [Control Environment F] made acclimating to the pressure a breeze. He felt more than adequately prepared for this mission. At present, he was walking with Zeke down the halls/underbelly of the Mothership. He saw the same scene with the dinosaur-looking person and the woman. Of course, someone was going to be causing a scene. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at their lack of subtlety if they were caught out so fast. Truly she had a lot to learn still be it from a lack of experience or an overabundance of arrogance. The poor kid was just caught in the mess but didn't seem to be a target for either just yet. "I believe Orrius is going to be meeting us here in the Dining Hall." He'd have to make sure that Orrius steered clear of the woman.

Orrius found himself in the viewing chamber of the mothership, staring out into the deep, dark ocean. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of comfort from the darkness. It was quiet, peaceful, and empty. As if nothing mattered in the long scheme of things - his tiny existence was just a mere speck in the vastness of the ocean. He had never imagined the ocean would be this beautiful! His worries, fears, and thoughts all seemed to vanish for an instant, as the boy entered a state of meditation.

However, it was also a tad bit lonely… The boy continued watching on, entranced for a few more moments, before remembering that he was supposed to meet with Zeke here in the ship. Turning to leave, he’d only just notice another person, a scholar of some sort with pink hair, staring out into the unknown. “Captivating, isn’t it? Something about the endless darkness is just so… calming.” He said, before taking his leave.

The boy would head for the dining hall next, where apparently some sort of fight was just about to break out. Orrius wouldn’t pay it any mind - these fools could just kill each other for all he cared. Searching around for the captain, he would find Zeke and Loke observing the situation from the side.

“Captain, Loke!” The boy walked over to the crew, reuniting with them at last. “Didja miss me? Think I somehow ended up getting lost back at the brothel, but I’ve been working on my magic ever since!” Orrius smiled proudly as if he had done a good job, before turning to look at the fight before them. “Anyway, what’s up with them?”

Mothership - Fatte Tunalia

ExEyJIeUYAofFh2.jpg

Otherworldly-Incantations-Deep-Sea-Worldbuilding-Oceanic-Trenches.jpg

Aside from the sounds of living in a creature for days, the passengers of Fatte Tunalia would have the pleasure of breathing in a fresh air that freely blew through much of the vessel. It would smell like an ocean breeze, the air still having just a bit of salt in it after it was separated from the Lake waters. Despite being a creature's innards, the walk ways within Mothership were relatively firm to walk on and not as spongey or squishy as one might imagine. Everything was firmly in place. What did smell fishy and was of questionable firmness was whatever the cooks were preparing for breakfast that morning in the dining chamber.

The dining chamber was a massive chamber with several areas for seating available. Although those like Beharius would have a hard time finding proper seating for body size and shape, the rest would be able to easily find a place that would eventually result in them getting served that morning. A more interior positioned chamber within Mothership, there was still a nice view of a school of shimmering fish swimming in a massive tank. One of the fishman chefs had found his way into the tank and was actively catching several of the fish with a net before exiting the chamber. Once the fishmen had left, several colored liquids poured into the chamber and gradually dissolved all the fish into nothing. Mothership had gotten her share of breakfast. Not too long later, the caught fish were prepared and served to various tables along side several accompanied seasoning options. Fresh plan life gathered from the lake bed, land side spices, and mysterious sauces, some leaning sweet or salty. Despite the main focus of the meal being fish, there was all manner of methods taking to help the menu suit the various needs and tastes of the continental audience. The beastmen staff called in the continental breakfast and were quite proud of themselves and Mothership for what they offered in services. There were close to 100 passengers in the dining hall not including staff. The hum of the people drowning out the sounds of the ship delving deeper into the lake.

The beastmen running the ship would regularly ignore Victorique's requests to see the captain. The first few times they would say, with heavy accents in common,

"Apologies, sweetling. The captain be indisposed. Why don't you have another horgorh and be a good girl somewhere else."

Their attitude changed to annoyance after her persistence and even finding her way into the 'engine' room with the heart once. 'Brat' in the beast tongue became a common phrase among the staff although they attempted to maintain a certain degree of professionalism in the common tongue.

That morning, the conversations Victorique would note around the dining hall would consist of the various vacationers, researchers, and adventurers looking to the eventual arrival in Crustanton as the answer to many wishes. The more the underwater city was hyped up, the harder it seemed likely to meet any of the build up about it. She would also hear the heated exchange between Baharius and Cluilia.

With most of the passengers in the dining all, there was one thing Victorique noted about the laws of the Underwater society that differed from most nations on land: theft from those that live on the land doesn't amount to theft title and creates no end of headaches in legal disputes between the peoples of the lake and the nations that use the lake as a body for transportation of precious cargo. The odd situation has not helped the piracy situation that was not uncommon in the continental lake, but it was nothing a few war vessel escorts couldn't manage for those that could afford it.

~~~~~~
Phoebe would be one of the few not in the dining hall at that moment when she would overhear fishmen speaking to each other in hushed tones. Their beastial language taking on an aquatic dialect. There were 2 of them, passengers by the look of their rougher, patchier garb. One with the head of a hammerhead shark. The other looking more like a human with fins for ears, fish eyes, and noticeable fish scales over his skin. They were making their way down the corridor to the sleeping quarters for passengers and had passed the observatory chamber without noting Phoebe's presence. Meanwhile, massive canyon walls would rise up on either side of the observatory view as Fatte Tunalia delved into a trench to go deeper.
~~~~~~~~

Due to the submarine nature of the Mothership voyage, it was not uncommon for the ship to move beneath the guests' feet in 3 dimensions. Not just a back and forth sway like a normal ship, but also a back and forth motion as well. With the exception of those with resilience to such things or experience aboard ships, a high proportion of the children and young women would be battling some form of motion sickness. The Horgorh would help take the edge off.

Phoebe's gaze into the darkness was interrupted by a male voice, turning to look to meet its source. The person in question appeared to a boy a bit shorter than her and with hair covered his eyes. Before she could have a chance to respond, the boy started to walk away down the hall. "Right..." As she watched the boy make his way down the hallway to another part of the fish vessel, she overheard 2 more voices, this time in hushed tones and in a language that she did not understand. She turned her head to look at the 2 passersby, one with the head of a hammerhead shark and the other being quite the literal take on the term fishman, possessing a human figure but with various fish features all over. "Guess fishfolk come in all sorts of forms in this world..." She quietly muttered to herself, voicing her thoughts in Terran just to be sure. She turned back to look out the window, ocean canyon walls now the only thing in view. Figuring those rock formations were the only thing that they would be able to see for a little while, and starting to feel a bit peckish, Phoebe made her way to the vessel's dining hall.

Given the sheer amount of people in the dining hall and the relative absence of people when she was making her way there, evidently Phoebe she was one of the few to arrive to breakfast late. Looking over the figures in the crowd, she caught a glimpse of the boy from earlier and near him were a peculiar gathering of people: a big reptillian beast and a human woman flanked by what looked like a few guards. Something seemed... off about the entire setup to that, but the amount of people in the room prevented her from going over there to check it out. Even if there were trouble brewing, she's not crazy enough to draw her wand right there and approach the group. Well that and at her skill level she probably wouldn't have been able to take on 5 heavily armed people at once in such a confined space if they did turn out to be bad elements. So, instead of going through all of that, she continued to scan through the crowd while inching her way over closer to the meal counter.

Surprisingly, as she continued to look over the various figures in the dining room, she spotted the blonde head of a rather short statured individual. Something about them looked a bit familiar, so naturally she decided to walk over to where the figure was. When she got close enough to get a better look, her suspicions were confirmed, calling out once she got within speaking distance of the halfling. "Victorique? Fancy seeing you here! Didn't think we'd cross paths again so soon! Did you come here right after leaving the library too? You find what you were looking for in there?" After saying that, however, the motions of the fish vessel caught Phoebe unprepared, causing her to stumble a bit and bump into another nearby person, a girl with what looked to be cat ears. "Oh, sorry! Are you alright?"

Stupid fish. Stupid fishmen. Stupid captain. Victorique was in a grumpy mood. She'd not been allowed to smoke for a long time and it wasn't doing her any good. The fact she couldn't even meet any interesting folk like the captain to keep her occupied didn't help either. The engine room had been neat though. An actual fish heart! This thing was definitely wonderful. If only it didn't go up and down and left and right and back and forth and all that so often. Even with the horgorh, she wasn't feeling the greatest. She made sure to keep any stuff she wasn't wearing in her [Pocket Dimension], not wanting to risk it being stolen by underwater folk.

The sea-sickness was also why she didn't appreciate breakfast as much as her inner halfling normally would enjoy experiencing new types of food. If anything, she felt forced to keep her meal very light and easily digestible, lest she'd have trouble to keep it in. She glossed over the other passengers, with the massive dinosaur looking dude standing out the most. She couldn't help smirk at the fact some human was openly trying to buy him into slavery, which had an expected outcome. It made her start to form a bit of a plan...

Before she could even start up that plan, she was rather surprised to see the familiar pink hair of the mage here. “Yes, I found some hints about the existence of an even older library in Crustanton, where I might be able to continue my search. What about you?” Before Phoebe could answer, the girl stumbled into a cat person. “The cat ending up inside the fish, instead of the other way around...” She mumbled, thinking of the irony of this situation.

Bored as she was and desperate to distract herself from her increasing desire to smoke, she decided to 'casually' investigate the cat-woman (Ultimate Detective D). Whatever it took to not think about how much she wanted to light up her pipe constantly.

Calliope swayed in the chair, nearly nodding off again. Comfortable things had that effect on her. Deciding she would be better off waiting in the mess hall, she got up and headed that way.

Upon entering, the first thing she would notice would be the massive aquarium housing several different types of fish. It's allure pulled her to it where she watched a fishman swim through the tank catching fish. She wasn't sure the reasoning behind it, but it was fascinating to watch, as her tail swayed back and forth from interest. The fishman exited the tank and Calliope wondered if those fish were to be breakfast. As she sat there watching and wondering, suddenly the aquarium was filled with several colored liquids and the fish dissolved right before her eyes. Calliope went pale as she realized what happened, and was once again brought clawing back into her current situation.

She decided to get in line for the food, but there seemed to be a small gathering of people in the way. She glanced over the members of the small collection and decided that, between the two large men who appeared to be soldiers of some kind and the scaled beastman, a woman about the same height as her was the most approachable. She stepped up to her and, mustering all of her courage, she almost tapped her on the shoulder. "E-exc..." But in the end it proved too much for her and she shied away. Deciding it best to just take the long way around she turned and began to head further into the mess hall. Suddenly, as the ship dove, she collided with someone else and fell to the ground.

It was a girl with pink hair. She was quite polite and asked if Calliope was okay. "I am fine, mmhhmm. It was my fault really, I was not watching where I was going, too excited for food, mmhhmm. I must confess, travel by fish is not best for me, mmhhmm. Are you alright, Hhmm? I did not damage anything did I, hhmm?" She looks over the girl for a moment, before noticing another girl nearby staring at her. She begins to feel nervous again. "I-is there a way in which I can help you, hhmm?"

"I'm fine, thank you." Phoebe wasn't carrying much on her person then, having left most of her belongings locked in her lodgings, but she still patted down her pockets and pouches to see if anything was indeed broken or missing, namely her wand. Thankfully, everything seemed to be in order. "Mmm... no it doesn't seem like anything is damaged, no worries!" She was about to offer a hand to help the girl off of the ground but then the girl's demeanor changed, becoming more nervous. Tracing the tracing of the cat girl's eyes behind herself revealed why, as Victorique seemed to be staring at the girl. "Ahhh... she doesn't mean any harm, don't worry." She chuckled slightly before turning to face and direct her speech back towards Victorique. "But yea, there was a bunch of fascinating stuff on magic practice in the library... well, not like it was a surprise that there was but still very fascinating to read through nonetheless. Actually, I'm heading to Crustanton to see if I can't learn something about magic from the library there too. Though... hopefully there'll be stuff I can actually read in there." An awkward chuckle escaped Phoebe as she finished that last statement.

She turned once more back towards the cat girl and held out a hand to help her up off of the ground. "I'm Phoebe, by the way. Phoebe Penrose. What's your name?"

Cluilia pouted as she heard the giant lizard's response on the matter. "Oh come on, there is good money to be made! Most people wouldn't turn down the chance to make a good chunk of money," Cluilia stated as she noticed the creatures glance toward the bodyguards. While the guards were simple-minded they wouldn't approach unless the creature showed a weapon. To which Cluilia was very much doubting that he was going to try in a place like this.

She examined the creature, from his appearance and attitude as he glanced toward the guards she figured that he had probably been a gladiator before all of this. Man this only makes things harder, I mean I typically don't go tricking people into the area but sometimes that is how it works. If he knows about it then that already makes this more challenging and he already seems to have his mind made up. Cluilia thought as she brought her hand up to her chin.

As the goat-boy moved past she eyed him for a moment though he might fetch a high price, he didn't look particularly skilled. Clearing her throat she returned her attention to that of the giant lizard.
"Order you around with treats? Why I would never, I think money tends to do the talking for me. A sound investment is always the best choice of action in a business!" She stated with a smile as she poked her nose. "But if you are really hard set on this course of action I suppose," Cluilia sighed as she turned toward the railing and leaned against it looking out into the sea.

Looking back over her shoulder she could see into the dining room and saw that breakfast was almost ready. "Well why don't you think on it and we will talk later yeah?" Cluilia stated with a smiled as she brushed the giant lizard's arm before walking to a table and sitting down to which the bodyguards followed her and moved to the wall closest to her chair.

Was Victorique mean? Perhaps a little. After all, how could it not be 'fun' to make someone nervous by simply staring at them and investigating them? Especially if they were almost twice her size. Did Phoebe just say she didn't mean any harm? What if she did, though? “I've heard that stealing is somewhat legal here, so even if you don't look like a native, it's always best to check, isn't it? See, even Phoebe's checking her pockets.” Was accusing someone of being a thief a good way to pass the time? Probably not. Was it a way for her to keep her mind off of smoking for a bit? Definitely. “Seems like you failed though, perhaps due to losing your balance on accident?”

That was probably as far as she should push it. She didn't want to make enemies, after all. “I'm just kidding. I'm Victorique Sopheana, by the way.” She stated, then turned to Phoebe. “Sounds like we'll be library hunting together once more, in that case. As for reading, I just picked up on some other languages for the occasion, so I'm eager to try putting them into practice.”

Ah, come to think of it, she could be doing that right now, couldn't she? She'd turn to Calliope again and continued in Beastial. <“So, what might have gotten you on board of this trip? Are you here as a tourist?”>

As Calliope was about to introduce herself to the girl who called herself Phoebe, the smaller girl began to talk to her. Her eyes went wide with horror as she slowly parsed together what the smaller girl was saying. "Y-you think I am thief, Hhmm?! I-I took n-nothing, did not even t-try, mmhhmm. I prrrromise, mmhhmm." She looks back and forth between the two girls with pleading eyes. The last thing she wanted was to be detained and forced to remain on this fish for longer than she needed. Finally the girl admitted she was joking and introduced herself. Calliope sighs with relief and collapses to her knees in a sitting position. "Oh, I-I see, mmhhmm. It was very funny, mmhhmm. I was very frightened, mmhhmm." She smiles and looks over at Victorique and up at Phoebe. "My name is Calliope, mmhhmm. It is very nice to meet you both, mmhhmm." She continues to calm herself down as the two converse for a moment, when Victorique suddenly addresses her in Beastial. She smiles happily at getting to converse in her natural tongue and leans forward to address her. <Oh, very good! You speak quite well. I am actually here on business. I am a purveyor of potions and I am here to acquire ingredients that are hard to obtain or impossible to find on the surface.>

As the cat girl took a seated position on the floor, Phoebe returned her hand to her side as the girl introduced herself as Calliope. The pink haired mage nodded in response to Victorique's statement about library hunting. "Seems like it. Learning a few new languages sounds useful, which o-"

Before she could finish her inquiry, Phoebe was suddenly taken aback when Victorique suddenly started emitting unfamiliar noises. Is that... meowing?! Why would she- oh no... has the stress from the library goose chase antics finally gotten to her?! The confusion and concern subsided when Calliope responded in kind with more of the same sounds. Taking a closer listen, she could roughly make out sounds that sounded similar to the language the fishmen were speaking. The pink haired mage let out an awkward chuckle. So that's what feline Beastial sounds like... Maybe I should familiarize myself with some of the other languages of this world as well...

Victorique certainly wasn't under-exaggerating when she said she picked up a few other languages for the trip, though just how many did she learn? Did that include Terran? The last time they ventured together, the group had to translate notes written in Terran for her. Well, what better way to test that than suddenly springing a conversation on her in Terran! She did say she was eager to practice after all. ["So, nothing conclusive from the Duchy from the sounds of it? I thought that out of all the places on the continent, the Duchy's library would be the place to learn about titles, but to think there's an even older library than that. That reminds me, I forgot to ask before, but what made you so interested in titles?"]

Baharius' blazing amber eyes squinted at the woman with utter disdain. By the gods, she wasn't even TRYING to be subtle with her finessing of phrases! And what was worse, he could've sworn he say her eyes briefly glance the poor goat boy that just so happened to have popped into the picture, with just the briefest flash of interest. Another disturbed shudder rattled through the Saurian's bones. How shameless could one be in the presence of others? And how many victims had this vile bitch been able to trick into her little indentured schemes?

Part of him didn't want to know. Frankly, any amount was too much.

Nonetheless, his firm stance was enough to deter her for the meantime; though she still insisted that he thinks about it and that they'll talk later. What an... absolutely flabbergasting conclusion. Baharius scoffed at her remark, saying nothing as he paused mid-breath to feel her hand unexpectedly brushed against his scales. What must've been a loose act of flirtation or charm, felt uncomfortably cold to the touch. Normally, such individuals would be casted away as no one significant; being just random passerby he'll most likely never see again. But here, Baharius felt like he was marked as a target. Maybe he was just on edge due to his surroundings, but something about this encounter rubbed him the wrong way. And it mildly disturbed him.

She didn't have any relation with the masters of his old arena...right?

Even so, little if anything would persuade Baharius to go back into the arena. While the saurian enjoyed the rush of battle and a good fight, his choice of battles granted him much more freedom and options than being forced against his will for entertainment. Money was certainly why most fighters would compete; or to bask in the potential chance of fame and glory by choice. Those who had no choice, no doubt fight to gain their freedom - like he had - or simply to survive. Only bloodthirsty beasts and monsters would disregard such aspirations for the primal glee of slaughter alone.

Now with a moment to breathe - and with breakfast fast approaching - the saurian turned to lean down at the little goat boy with a curious look. Despite his intimidating size and bestial opponent, Baharius affinity as [Dino Daddy] would actively have him look to be as approachable as possible. He gave a friendly little lipped smirk. "Sorry you had to witness that." Baharius replied in a low voice, "Are you alright, little one?"

With Calliope sitting down and leaning forwards, it was pretty much like Victorique got invited to reach out for them, wasn't it? I mean, anyone would be curious, right? So when the option presented itself like this, how could one not act on it? It's why Victorique would reach out to try feeling one of Calliope's ears, just to see if they would be as soft as they looked. Also to see if they were real to begin with, considering how oddly high on her head they were located. Was that the case with all [beast] people? She'd never paid too much attention to it prior.

Either way, what where they talking about again? <“Thanks, although I feel like I keep mispronouncing some of the more guttural and hissing sounds, but any attempt at doing better makes my throat feel like it's on fire.”> Those were probably the racial limitations of trying to speak such a foreign language. On the topic of foreign languages, she clicked her tongue. <“I don't think I know what a purrrrveyor is yet.”> She said, mispronouncing the word while at it. “Is <purrrrveyor> a type of alchemist?” That'd make the most sense in the context of the rest of the sentence.

She puffed up her chest in pride at the recognition of her amazing language-learning skills. [“Terran is what I started with, as it was too annoying having others read for me. It's probably also the most similar to common and had the least amount of difficult to pronounce sounds in it. Do you know how foolish it feels when you're trying to pronounce beastial and actual cats start hissing back at you instead whilst a dog starts barking in the background?”] Yeah, that was probably the toughest part of her language training. Fighting off the angry cats who's ancestors she'd insulted on accident. [“Anyhow, the Duchy just had a lot of lists of recorded titles, but not much about how they come to be. I bet they do know about it, but that they keep the knowledge locked up too good for me to find it. Perhaps security is more lenient in Crustaton.”]

She still wasn't convinced the Magic Duchy didn't have more on the subject, but that didn't matter. [“Well, they're pretty much everywhere, aren't they? I love detective work, but when you can just read someone for criminal titles, that does take a lot of the 'work' out of it, doesn't it? However, that system seems pretty open to abuse, doesn't it? What if you can manipulate it? Give someone a [criminal] title at will? What if you can take them away just as easily? Even the guards with their black orbs rely on those, so you could be the worst criminal ever yet be considered a saint, if you figure out how to meddle with those titles! With a possibility like that existing, how could I not get interested? However, the more I'm looking into it, the more it feels like it's one of the biggest mysteries in this world, which makes it even more exiting, no? Especially due to them being different per country.”]

She figured she'd switch back to common, so that Calliope could join back in on their conversation as well.

“Did you two know that theft is treated differently here? In the Underwater society, theft from those that live on land doesn't amount to a criminal title. It means underwater folk can 'legally' steal from above-water folk in the eyes of the 'world's law' or whatever governs the titles. Surely something or someone decided that, right? I want to know who or what is behind all that. Besides, I've heard even more extreme examples, namely that Humans can be killed in the See without it resulting in the criminal title! Knowing those types of things exist, how can I not try to figure out how titles work? Ah, sorry, that's what we were talking about in Terran.” She added the latter part to get Calliope back into the conversation a little.

Calliope smiled at her new friend, happy to be conversing in her native tongue. Suddenly Victorique's hand stretched out toward Calliope. "Wha-what are you...?" Before she could finish the question, Victorique had a hold of her ear. "Hhhhhhmmmmmm?!?!" Calliope turned red and shook with embarrassment as she let out a low purr. "Tha-that is not a spot for you to be touching without perrrrrmission please, mmhhmm. It is reserved for those whom we are close to, mmhhmm. I am glad we are fast friends, but we do not have that closeness, mmhhmm." She lets out another purr in between each statement, until Victorique finally lets go. Calliope sighs with relief. "I-I know you weren't aware, but i-it is not apprrroprrrriate to touch our ears or the space between them unless you are a family member or close friend, mmhhmm." She collected herself and listened as Victorique continued.

She stood up and straightened her dress out.
<"It is not an easy language to master, even among beastkin. Every type of beastkin has different dialects and accents. There is even a noticeable difference between big cats and small cats like myself. You're doing quite well for someone whose throat was not made to growl and hiss.> She smiles at Victorique. "Oh, <purveyor>? Let me think, the common word would be, hhmm? Monger, hhmm? Someone who sells one kind of thing, mmhhmm." She was happy to be helping someone with her language.

Calliope listened as the two spoke to each other in another language she couldn't understand. Shortly after Victorique switched back over to common. Calliope didn't really understand most of what she was talking about, but the basic idea peaked her interest as a fellow problem solver. "So, then, what if someone was to move from the land to the sea, hhmm? If someone was born in Ryke but moved to a house in Crustanton, could they steal from land folk, hhmm? Or could under water folk steal from them, hhmm?" Calliope wished she'd had her journal on her so she could make diagrams.

Jack chuckled nervously at the woman, suddenly becoming much more frightened than he was before. His instincts were telling him that the human woman was a much scarier threat than the nice Dinosaur-like creature. His back legs were shaking, his ears drooping down as his tail twitched. He wanted to escape, but he felt like he couldn’t move. He let out a huge sigh of relief as she went on her way, his body visibly relaxing.

“Sorry.” Jack apologized, taking a few steps back from the towering creature that he was hiding behind mere moments ago. Tugging at his sweater sleeves nervously, he nodded his head quietly. He didn’t feel threatened by the beast, but was more shy than anything. Soon, Jack gave the dino a small smile. “Yes, I’m fine. Thank you.” He ignored the ‘little’ comment, as it wasn’t unheard of for people to mistake him for a child. In fact, it happened more often than not.

“Can I ask what you’re doing on this venture? I came for some underwater ingredients for my coworkers.” He let that stew for a second. Coworkers. He works. Yes, he is an adult! “Apparently the plants down here are really unique compared to the land ones. Well, according to witch standards.” He dug through his bag as he talked, pulling out a crumpled up drawing of one of the said plants, showing it off to the dino dad. It was a bit sloppy, but the purple bulb-like plant was somewhat recognizable. “Some of them even glow! Imagine getting to eat glowing food!” He clopped his hooves on the floor in excitement. “Oh, now I just can’t wait!”

Phoebe chuckled a bit. ["That does sound rough, but hey, at least it seems like it paid off!"] She was about to input her own thoughts after Victorique's elaboration on titles when Victorique switched back to talking in common. Getting more points of view is always interesting as it is helpful to getting one's own thought processes going, so the pinked haired mage was naturally interested and curious as to what Calliope thought about the entire manipulating titles for criminal gain stuff, nodding along. "Perhaps it's similar to what you said about how criminal titles being different across the countries of the world, Victorique? I mean, different countries have different laws after all, no?" She added on after Calliope, crossing her arms as she pondered more. "Or maybe... different regions of the world? But... no... that wouldn't make sense if sea folk can steal from land folk without receiving a criminal title without the reverse also being true, if it's as you say..."

The topic certainly was interesting food for thought, but the longer Phoebe pondered, the more contradictions seemed to appear. She sighed. "Hmm... I can certainly see why titles fascinate you, Victorique. It seems just as another fact of life to everyone, yet is at the same time seemingly impossible to wrap your head around, isn't it?" She relaxed her stance, letting her arms go back to their usual resting position at her sides. "Attempting to solve an impossible mystery... it really does seem exciting when you put it like that!"
