RELATIONSHIPS

Joseph Martinelli -- He was Jonah's father and the previous governor of Precinct 58. His last wished were for Jonah to take his place and make sure that the precinct thrived. Jonah had a love-hate relationship with his father because he had his own idealized Jonah in his head and made sure to let him know how disappointed he was when Jonah didn't meet those expectations. But, at the end of the day Jonah knew that his father cared for him.

Amanda Martinelli -- She was Jonah's mother who was killed in a small dispute with Precinct 24 while trying to help the injured. He favored his mother and her death caused some tension between him and his father.

Reagan Callahan -- He was one of the first kids closest to his age to become another denizen of the precinct, leading to their casual friendship. Jonah and Reagan were much closer when they were younger and started drifting apart once Jonah ended up as a hunter. Briefly they reunited and skipped a mandatory meeting together on a whim, which officially severed their friendship and replaced it with a bit of bad blood.


BACKGROUND

Jonah Martinelli was 5 years old when the world ended. Larger cities and suburbs were blown away by bombs while in his small town, Jonah's father tucked him and his mother down in their basement.

By 2025, Joseph Martinelli became one of the pioneers in rebuilding, creating Precinct 58 out of the remnants of 3 apartment complex buildings with some other surrounding buildings-- including a church. Jonah looked up to his father, a big and powerful man, while simultaneously fearing him. His father would show him around time and time again and tell him that Precinct 58 would one day be his to nurture and take care of.

From that point on, everything Jonah ever did was under much scrutiny of his father. Every action, the people he hung out with, how he was doing in the various lessons, his interests, all of it. Jonah was never truly interested in the idea of taking over Precinct 58 when his father died-- he didn't want to even think about it.

Jonah was 15 when he started to join the hunting parties and 18 when he lost his finger while setting up a trap. The accident prompted his father to employ him as a distributor instead who was in charge of handing out rations to about 25 people every week. The job didn't stick either and by the time he was 22, he was already a part of the council.

On a whim, he and Reagan skipped out on a mandatory meeting and immediately after got reprimanded. It took a lot of convincing for his father to give him and Reagan an equal punishment since he was trying to keep the incident under wraps as it served as an awful example for the rest of the denizens to follow.

The situation spooked him enough to be at his father's calling almost all times of the day. As a council member and the governor's son, he really had no time to relax. After his mother died, his father worked him even harder, chastising him more than ever.

Jonah found himself both saddened and relieved when his father died after suffering from a series of strokes. But, Precinct 58 was still left with a giant hole his father had tried prepping him to fill.

He is still figuring out how to do that.

Rowyn Callahan -- Rowyn quickly became one of Wren's best friends. They were similar in age and had similar personality, making them a good team.



BACKGROUND

Wren was born on October 24th, 2023 inside of reinforced cellar. Her mother died during childbirth, leaving her to be cared by her father, Malik Easton.

Their house was pretty secluded and left relatively unaffected by outside forces. Malik was a decent hunter but an even better fisher. He would often take Wren out in the backyard to their lake to go fishing. He is also who taught her most of the survival skills she knows.

Wren's dad disappeared when she was 12. He'd gone to check the traps and after a day of being gone, Wren went looking for him. She found blood, but no body. It was only a year later that recruiters from Precinct 58 came knocking at her door. She was hesitant to follow them back to base, but they eventually talked her into it.

It took some time for Wren to settle in at the precinct. She started off with joining the hunters and going fishing, but eventually her way with other people was recognized. She was 20 when she began training to be one of Precinct 58's diplomats.

Wren was happy being able to get away some times and talk to anyone other than the 100-something people she saw every day. However, speaking with the denizens of other precincts made her realize there were better ways decisions could be made. She's advocated a better voting system, rather than relying on a council with the governor to make the decisions. They haven't been perfect, decent at best. Too many people have died under the system in her opinion and the weird dynasty-type reign that is present seems unfair.

Patrick and Diane Callahan -- They were his parents that died when he was 16. He loved them a lot.

Rowyn Callahan -- She is Reagan's little sister whom while, he would never admit it, loves her and would do anything to protect her. He's sometimes a shitty older brother because he's a bit emotionally stunted, but he means the best.

Jonah Martinelli -- He was one of the older kids that Reagan looked up to when his family arrived. They drifted apart as they got older due to differences in schedules and duties, but randomly skipped out on a mandatory meeting years later. The results of it destroyed what they hand and while the idea was both of theirs, the stupid drama surrounding it made him despise Jonah and loathe the governor even more. Though, he feels more neutral about everything nowadays.



BACKGROUND

Reagan Kennedy Callahan was born to an Irish-American family consisting of Patrick and Diane Callahan on April 21st, 2021. About one year later, everything had officially gone to shit. With a goal to protect their infant son, Patrick and Diane were desperate and abandoned their farm. Their safe haven was but a few houses down with a neighbor that was previously obsessed with doomsday prep and had a bunker.

The next few years was spent sealed down in the bunker with three other families. Then, they opened up to bunker to find that the earth had changed as they knew it. But, as humans always have, they adapted. The farmhouses the families had previous had been destroyed and thus, they all continued to live in the bunker, however they worked on an early version of a water filtration system and a way to farm fresh food.

On November 12th, 2025, a miracle happened. Rowyn Kassidy Callahan became the little sister of Reagan and second child of the Callahans. Reagan's 6 year old self vowed to protect her.

Several years after that, the Callahan's left the bunker in search of other survivors. It wasn't long before they realized that there was an entire system of rebuilding communities labeling themselves as "precincts" with an identifying number attached to them. In 2030, the Callahans became official denizens of Precinct 58 as innovators. Taking inspiration from the bunker, Patrick and Diane helped bring a water filtration system and farm to Precinct 58.

The contributions to the precinct landed Patrick and Diane spots on the council.

Reagan was 12 when he officially began helping out in the rooftop gardens. The next big event occurred when he was 16. Patrick and Diane had heard about a group of survivors that wasn't affiliated with the precincts so they had been sent to investigate by Joseph Martinelli, the Mayor of Precinct 58 at the time. Patrick never came back. Diane died 3 days after returning to Precinct 58, but not before identifying the horrors of Precinct 00.

Reagan was left in charge of his little sister. He had to explain to her that they were dead and that they weren't coming back. And for that, Reagan was left with distaste in his mouth for the fault in authority of Precinct 58. Knowing that he couldn't change what had happened, he continued working in the gardens for Precinct 58, allowing him to provide for himself and Rowyn.

Since then, not much has changed. Perhaps Reagan has become a little more bitter and more closed off, but he still feels responsible for his sister and is dedicated to their survival.

Definitely see's her brother as a father figure, but nowadays she enjoys annoying the crap out of him. Plus, Rowyn has a hard time with his protectiveness over her.

It takes a serious blow to force her to give up and loses hope on something or someone. She’s a bouncy, bright person who’s truly happy despite her circumstances- in her mind, every situation has its silver lining and it’s pointless to ignore it. She’s a social person who can talk to and get along with pretty much everyone; she’s understanding and non judgemental, as she knows she can come across as odd. Pea is a happy person, possibly partially due to the fact that mentally, she’s not all there. She always seems to be in her own world with her own rules and rarely comes back down to earth. A few of the subtleties of human existence are lost on her, and she finds no need to learn. She also has a bit of an obsessive personality; she can’t let go of anything and gets unreasonably upset when she’s forced to, like she’s lost a part of herself. She’s also very noticeably childish. She’s amazing when it comes to tinkering; she can make just about anything she puts her mind to, including the tiny house she lives in, made of discarded wood and scrap metal; when she finds something broken, she can correctly guess how it’s broken and what it needs to get it back in working condition.

Inventory:
Her house is an absolute clusterf, full of junk from the old world she finds interesting. Since she goes out and scavenges every other day and brings back tons with her, her house is packed with stuff, to the point of storing things outside. Among the heaps of stuff are old shoes, books and magazines, pill bottles, wrist watches, playing cards & dominoes, old, nasty makeup, sports gear, crosses, toothbrushes, furniture, keys that unlock nothing anymore, wind chimes, and more. If she finds any broken devices, she fixes them up and sells them for a profit.
Carries around a backpack when she goes out adventuring containing nothing but her canteen and a compass; she needs the space!

Background: Her background is a mystery to everyone, including herself. All she knows is that she’s been in the desert for a long time, collecting anything along the way that caught her eye, before coming across Precinct 58 and deciding to stay because, well, she’s got nothing better to do. She also knows that she’s supposed to be a boy from what her body looks like, though to her, she’s always just been a normal girl; the reason she feels that way is a mystery too.

She named herself as well; Prada after pretty jewelry with that name on it, and Max after the apocalypse movie.

Relationships: None yet, friends with Shu Fang whom she gives anything dangerous looking.

fang stands cool and collected in the face of danger, no matter what it may be. she values the lives of precinct 58’s citizens above her own and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. she’s always working and keeping focused on her duties. emotionally, she’s resilient and won’t let her heart overpower her gut feelings. she’s extremely observant and can notice the moment something is off. a natural leader, fang is confident and has a plan for everything. she’s rather intelligent and adaptable; she always seems to be ready for anything, no matter what. it’s rare she expresses it outwardly, but fang has an empathetic soul and wants what’s best for the people of 58, including her troupe.

fang is an incredibly intense person- she always seems tense and on edge, almost paranoid both when she’s on duty and off; she can’t separate herself from work while she’s off. she’s not the most trustful person, even to those she’s close to. she’s a pessimist and while she’s always prepared, she’s also always expecting the worst and worrying. she can be very no-nonsense and humourless, to the point of arrogance. it’s rare you ever see her smile.

fears: shu is nigh fearless, apart from fire. she’ll still put it out if it’s a threat, but she tries to avoid getting anywhere near it when she can.
ailments: physically, she’s at peak performance.
she’s extremely secretive about what’s going on in her head, but it’s likely after the events of her childhood that she has a bit of trauma. she doesn’t consider it to be worse than anyone else’s trauma, though.

Skills:
For such a small woman, Shu packs one hell of a punch. A talented and powerful streetfighter, she can take out just about anyone she’s put in front of, unless they’re hundreds of pounds heavier than her. She’s been building her strength for years and almost all of her 113 pounds is muscle and pure, concentrated energy.
Shu is extremely focused and steady-handed, which makes her a skilled sharpshooter. tries not to use weapons when she can.

Inventory:
Binoculars are an indispensable item for anyone who works in a watch tower.
Always keeps a flashlight on her, just in case.
Gauze and antiseptic.
A small dagger is the only weapon she utilizes more than once a month.
Stores a 12 gauge pump action shotgun at base, practically the most dangerous weapon P58 has. Rarely uses it- has limited ammo due to scarcity- it’s mostly just to scare weirdos off.
Has one stun grenade stored away, in case things go very, very south.

Background:
Prior to the nuclear apocalypse, Young Jesse lived in a suburban area, working with his family business on selling charcoal and also frequently volunteer in emergency team. During the war, he and his family were some people that had the luck for privilege to hide in a local bunker set by the government. Despite surviving the war, they eventually faced the even worse aftermatch... Having to live in a very different world, a cruel and unforgiving one. Jesse lost his beloved family members one by one until he had nobody left. The young man retreated from the chaos in the broken civilization and hid away into the wild and lived there in solitude. From a kind and cheerful boy, turned into a silent and bitter man, paranoid of everything strange and suffering the PTSD of his past gruesome experience. The only friends he had during time were the small critters he named and made friends with in the wild, the most significant one is a highly intelligent, mutated raven that exposure to radiation had extended its lifespan greatly, which Jesse named it Darby.

Eventually, the chaos and trouble from mutated beasts and scavengers caught up to his home in the forest, forcing him to abandon it. Together with Darby, he wandered until he learnt about the existence of Precinct 58 and decided to join to increase his odd of survival... A mutated raven that shows surprising longevity and intelligence, capable of understanding human speech to some degree and is also able to use some human's tool use. Darby met Jesse during his solitude in a house he found and claimed for himself. The bird first only came to eat food scrap left from the hermit. However, time passed and Darby began to get closer and closer to Jesse, sometimes going out to scavenge items for him. After Jesse was pushed out of his house, Darby followed him everywhere he went. The bird acts more like a friend than a pet, forage and feed itself, come and go at its will.​

Background:​
Edi's father was a bastard and a scoundrel -- and for that she's grateful. Her father was a hardy man, having survived the wasteland prior to finally settling down. And though he had spent his life looking for safety, he never grew accustomed to it. It was as if the peace, if there was ever any at the time, was more terrifying to him than the dangers of the outside world. By the time he had come to this conclusion, however, it was far too late. He had had a wife and child, and leaving would condemn him as the very thing he despised: a coward. Yet he was spiteful, and Ediza came to know this all too well.

Despite being born in the precinct, Ediza was familiar with the wilds far more than she was with people. Her first memory was of overgrown structures, rusted ruins half-buried beneath plant and rocks like some wretched creature's bones. It was the first of the world she had seen, but far from the last, as her father saw it reasonable to leave his child out there alone for hours at a time. Occasionally, even days. It was her father's simple, yet thorough philosophy. If the outside world had raised him to be strong, surely it would do the same for his daughter. It was his version of tough love. Nevermind the night she would spend shivering, the calls of mutated creatures echoing in the brush, nor the many times she was certain she would die. Her mother never interfered. In her later years, she had lost her senses, become more docile as time ate at her mind. In a way, the malpractice did harden her. She became used to the sounds, to the aching belly pains of a missing meal, and the gnawing fear of the elements. But it left her stunted. Less inclined to spend time around people, especially her father.

No tears were shed when he finally passed. He was a peacekeeper during his time at the precinct, and many saw him respectable. Few saw how he treated his wife, his flippant abandonment of his child, or the tendency for his eyes to stray when a sweet young woman would cross his path. By that time, Ediza's mother had long since passed. She had no siblings, no real other family. Not even any real friends. Nor was she inclined to live out in the wastes, as used to them as she was. Being a hunter seemed like the only real logical step. She could spend as much time as she liked outside but still have an excuse to stay within the safety of the community.

Ediza has since found her small niche in the precinct. She mostly hunts small game, always wary of mutations in the creatures she finds. Occasionally, however, if the need arises, she's unafraid of putting her bow against more dangerous game. Though she's wary of people, she does seek to find her place within the community as to fill the hole of her past had left.

Background:
Angel knew the harshness of this world from a young age. His mother sold him to some slave trader for some drugs and a pack of cigs. It's 2045 there shouldn't be slaves you say. Well its funny how when the world turns to shit and laws pretty much disappear how quick humans turn to hurting their own kind. He found himself in a brothel at a fairly young age, yet another law that was not important in this world. He grew up selling his body for money and doing things that weren't pleasant.

The only way out of this hell for him was to buy himself. He barely made money from his work, but he was determined to get himself out of this situation. He worked hard and made money. He pursued his passion on the side, medicine. Something simple yes, but it is funny how useful it can be in a brothel. As he grew he learned, not just about the world and medicine, but how to live in it. He learned how to trick people, how to pretend. He learned how to make money, no matter how unpleasant the way to get it was. Even in this broken world, money ran it.

He could remember every punishment. The beatings or worse. Being thrown into a river when he couldn't swim so he learned to stop pursuing his little medicine. This didn't stop him. He would not show them fear. He would grow. He used his skills with his body and medicine to get money. He charged the other slaves, he took the opportunity, no matter how painful it was to do so. He worked his way out. Until he could buy himself out of the chains that bound him.

He got out and ran away from that past. He found a new place, one which had law, which had order. He was accepted in there. They let him in and he became a person to them. Not an object or a slave. He accepted his past but knew it was nothing he could change. Here he was someone. That was all that mattered. He became a doctor here, it was well needed with constant refugees getting accepted as well as it was hard to come across one. He carved his way to where he is today, and isn't ready to let anyone take away what he has now.

Background:
Was it luck the he lived far away from any city, nestled in a small cabin atop a mountainous cliff, overlooking the sea? Or was it some cruel joke? When the bombs fell, he was just a boy, barely fourteen years of age. Maybe a couple months younger. Of course, when humanity went to hell, so did the Earth itself. Maybe his folks could survive the nuclear apocalypse in barely touched wilderness, hunting and foraging. Ed always wondered about what if they needed medical supplies... but he never got a chance to find out what they would do. Of course, being the smart lad he was, he figured they'd need something from civilization sooner or later. It was a small sea-side town, but he supposed everyone evacuated despite not being even remotely close to the bomb-site. This place was always chock-full of particularly unintelligent people, though. Probably explained why he only ever got along with his school teachers, but avoided others like the goddamn plague. First aid was easy enough to find. He looted some food and candy, too. Just for kicks. He actually liked the meat they found in the wilderness occasionally. But he supposed he was justified no less. Little by little, there were less and less of them. So he might as well stock up. Sure, the rain was heavy. The tides were fierce. But he had no way of knowing what would happen next. A deafening crack and a blinding light, and then the shaking of ground and a distance crash, like the sound of an avalanche. There... an old truck with a rolled down window at the gas-station across the street. Hot-wiring cars wasn't exactly difficult, especially with absolutely no one around to yell at you or call the police. Not like there seemed to be any police around in the first place, at this point. What convenience. A true deus ex machina... right?

There was nothing. No cabin. No land. A single tree stood on fire, split in half on the precipice of the cliff that replaced the old one. If there was a God... was he being punished for something? Did he unknowingly commit some atrocity to merit divine punishment? That even the forces of nature placed all their rage on him to take away... everything. His relationship with his parents wasn't perfect but... still... they were all he had. His home... his family... gone. Taken away by the forces beyond man. The worst part was that there was no one even to blame. There was no comfort or solace to be had in any of it. It just happened. Over the a period of time, though he was unsure of exactly how long, he roamed. Surviving where he could. Scavenging. Hunting. He put his mind to good use, at least. He doesn't remember exactly when he stumbled across precinct 58. But he remembered how at the end of his line he was when he did. Starving. Thirsty. Days without sleep. Minimal rest. And here it fucking was. Civilization. Ironic. The thing he took for granted for the most before doomsday; Other people. They were his saving grace it seemed. And so, they say... the rest is history.

She has only recently come out and began identifying as her true gender within the last year or two. The people in her life have been supportive and accepting of her choice, but she still struggles with a deep insecurity that they still see her as a man. Since I’m assuming the technology doesn’t exist for her to medically transition in any way, she is biologically male but living as female. Overall Talulah is a good person who wants to be a hero and really help her community.

Background
Kaia was born seven years after the bombs went off. The only world she knew was that of the precinct, she was often jealous of those that had experienced life before all hell broke loose. Her mom had always said she was lucky, lucky to be spared the memories of what they had lost, a large reason why she refused to talk about the old world. Her mom had been a politician, though Kaia wasn’t exactly sure what that had entailed, she had described it as similar to her current position as a council member. It was quite clear from a young age that Kaia would not be following her mothers footsteps into a council position, she was far too reckless and was constantly finding ways to be anywhere other than the precinct. This was largely due to her fathers influence, his role had been a hunter and he taught Kaia most of what he knew. She was closest with her father, they both shared the same love for adventure and impulsive behaviours, much to her mothers distress. Despite her, at times, chaotic persona and seemingly unlimited energy Kaia had been a fairly good child. It wasn’t until her father failed to return from a hunting trip that she began to change. It only took days before they found his body an arrow sticking from his chest. From that day on Kaia became obsessed with finding his killer and learned how to track and navigate the surrounding areas of the precinct along the way. Despite her usual sarcastic and energetic persona something darker was now under the surface. She seemed to enjoy her hunting kills a bit too much, and her temper was constantly ready to boil over. In present day she spends most of her time arguing with her mother, hunting and seeing how far she can push the rules without getting banished.

Katherine Becker (mother) - Katherine is a hard working and headstrong woman. She does her best to be an excellent council member and mother. While she can be seen as strict she is also fair and has a strong moral compass. Her relationship with Kaia is strained most likely due to Kaia’s aversion to authority and constant bending of the precincts rules.

Background:
Anya has lived in the Precinct her entire life. She always loved the small oasis that Precinct 58 provided. She knew that she wanted to be a guard, to contribute in some small way to the workings of this place most of her life. Her father had been a guard. He’d helped her train for the job. He’d helped her pass the tests and understand the rules of the land. He’d celebrated with her when she’d been hired by the Precinct. Not two months later, her mother was arrested for plotting the downfall of the Governor and consequently the Precinct. Her mother and father packed up and left. They wished their daughter well and walked out into the desert without so much as a teary goodbye.

Background: Harper was born in Precinct 32. It was a small and peaceful precinct, known for their rigorous entrance requirements. It was a place of craftsmen, artisans, and farmers. He apprenticed as an ironsmith in Precinct 32. With a strict no weapons rule, Harper moved to Precinct 50 to continue his training. Learning to work with metal in Precinct 32 was wonderful, but he knew that his calling was to make weapons. He spent two years in Precinct 50, learning the art of weapon making. Life there was different. Life was so different there. The city was warlike. People who were peaceful were picked on and manipulated. The master weaponsmith he was training under watched out for him, but Harper knew he was lucky. He didn’t know how to wield a weapon, but he was known for being good at creating them. It kept gangs off his doorstep and vigilantes on his good side. But when his apprenticeship ended, Harper knew that he wanted to open his shop somewhere kinder. He traveled for a while, bouncing from place to place as a guest craftsman. About a year ago, Harper found Precinct 58. He bought himself a small house with the money he’d made and built a forge in a small shed behind it. He’s been selling his wares at the trading market ever since.
