overview.
The year is 2033 and for those born in the last twenty years, a world haunted by the infected has been all they have ever known. The world from before has long since faded but humans have done what they are best at: adapt and survive.
Five years ago, children and teenagers began disappearing from Quarantine Zones all over the country and FEDRA was not able to pin-point who exactly was responsible, though the government hardly expanded any effort to search for the missing to begin with. Deep in the mountains of Montana sits what seems to be an abandoned facility but a dark secret is hidden beneath its surface.
A maze of corridors and labs sits underneath the earth and the experiments that are conducted there are not for the faint of heart. Here those that were taken can be found, unwilling participants in a program aiming to understand the full extent of the Cordyceps fungus and possibly developing a means of weaponizing it. The corporation running this operation, Haven, is determined to succeed at any cost, however their experiments had some...unforeseen side-effects.
By exposing the children to a modified version of the fungus, their bodies mutated in strange ways, seemingly taking on different aspects of the infected but fully retaining their humanity and sanity. Seeing an opportunity, the program direction changed course and Project Phoenix was born, with a goal of turning these children into super-soldiers. But one day, a containment breach gave the experiments an opportunity to escape. Fleeing into the wild, they were eventually found by a thriving community that welcomed them with open arms.
But safety comes at a price and Haven is not the only organization searching for these immune individuals.
