Formatting Woes

Bone2pick

Minority of One
Ever since the big site update I've been having "formatting" issues in my posts.  Really strange and annoying stuff.  Just a simple sentence cut & paste—from earlier in the post mind you—to the bottom of the page will have the site asking me if I'd "like to remove formatting."

The thing is, if it's just a sentence from higher up in my standard formatted post, why would it ask me this? Why would it have a different format than any other part of my unadjusted post?  And the kicker is, if I don't remember to click remove, it will look different.  I'm not sure why, but it will.

It doesn't have different formatting. I believe that message is simply designed to appear whenever someone pastes.

Also, what happens with me, if I click remove, it looks different from the rest of my post, reverting back to the basic format you have starting a post.

I think it's something to do with copy and paste and the background. Like I'm almost ninety percent positive when you copy/past something it doesn't put the color to default and it gives you a white background.

But don't quote me on that. I usually just click take off the formatting or I just put the information in under Source and figure it out there. But if you don't have HTML capabilities I'd say switch to night theme and see if that's what's causing the issue.

I mean not the theme itself but the white background or whatever.

I think Rae is right.  When you copy/paste it brings the text and background colors of your theme with it.  So if you're copying in the Default theme, people in Dark will see your pasted text as black with white highlighter.  Other way 'round if you're in Dark and people in Default are reading it.  Also, spoilers and quotes have slightly different text and background colors, so even copy/pasting and viewing all in the same theme can look different then.  Removing the formatting resets all that to whatever is default for the viewer.

Oops! Maybe I shouldn't be posting in these threads, lol.

What's annoying is that removing formatting can remove formatting entirely, resetting things like font and forcing you to re-format it to match the rest of the post. Is there any way this can be fixed, @Kaerri?

No, it's all or nothing, I'm afraid.  I think you should be able to not click "Remove Formatting" and just set font color and background color both to Automatic and that should fix it across the themes as well, which could be a faster solution depending on how much formatting you'd be putting back in otherwise.

I am running the light background, so that's something.  Damn it's annoying.  I've clicked remove formatting in the past and it killed the picture I was trying to paste—which left a bad taste in mouth.  But this copy paste thing is really making my posts wonky whenever I forget to remove their formatting.

This may actually be the case on only some boards. In the quoted test post, the second and third tests were copied, and the fourth was copied in source mode. This is what the post looked like in the Night Life: http://prntscr.com/cvlvjg
