FOREVER UNDEAD
As the dead started rising all over the globe, civilization slowly crumbled. An unknown virus that transformed people into savage, flesh eating monsters after their death, turned mankind as we know it, upside down. Nobody was ready, and it all happened so quick that no one was able to control it. The government couldn’t control them. The army and police couldn't do much to help. The civilians panicked and in no time countries started falling. Crime rate started going up all over the world, riots made streets impossible to live in and deaths increased like never before. After only a month, this outbreak had affected mankind tremendously and surviving both the dead and the living is becoming increasingly difficult. The world wasn't the same anymore, and it looked like this truly was the end for mankind.
(ATTENTION: In this universe, the fictional work of George R. Romero never existed. Therefore, zombies were never truly introduced to the world properly. That meant mankind was unprepared and was quickly overtaken by the dead. The word "Zombie" shouldn't be used too often as humans don't have the habit of calling the undead that. People either refer to them as "Roamers" or "Undead".)
OUR STORY
After shit hit the fan, and the dead started eating the living, people across the country started building small communities to hold up while the military tried to "take care" of the infected. Your character, like most people, stayed at one this communities for a while. We used to call... The "Sanctuary". It was a small neighborhood that people tried to make a community out of located in Portland, Oregon. Some were locals, others just stumbled upon it but everyone tried to make this small community work. For a little while, it wasn't a bad place to live in. But after water and electricity were cut, and food supplies were practically non existent, people started panicking. People started turning on each other, resulting in either fights or people just leaving the neighborhood. Constant bandit raids and Roamer attacks followed shortly after, and this little neighborhood was far from a good place to stay at. Things didn't look to get better either, with no information on the situation with the infected. Radio signals completely disappeared, leaving survivors with no clue on the military's progress with the fight against the virus. So, over time the "Sanctuary" became a desert. Most people left to be with their loved ones. Some left to find other more stable communities. Others just left because they'd rather take their chances out in the open then to slowly starve to death. The "Sanctuary" was no more and very few people stayed behind. You, just like everybody else, decided it was time to leave. There was no real plan in your mind, but a lot of people that left did talk about the "San Francisco Safe Zone". With no other better option, you decided to go to San Francisco and try your luck. Maybe society hadn't fallen there. It'll be a great, long road and you certainly won't be able to do it alone. You decided to tag along with some other survivors from the "Sanctuary" in hopes to make it to San Francisco safe and sound. You aren't really familiar with most of the survivors that are with you on this journey. They aren't complete strangers, but their not friends or family. At least not yet. Maybe you weren't a big fan of this group idea, but it's impossible to travel alone nowadays.
We'll be a group of around 10-15 people. Our goal is to reach San Francisco's Safe Zone. If we all agree on it, once in a while we'll do time skips so it doesn't get boring. There will be chapters to separate parts of the plot and after each chapter's done, I'll do a quick summary on the update tab (Which at the time of writing this, isn't up yet)
We'll have to go through several locations to make to San Francisco. The first area we'll go through is Eugene/Springfield, Oregon. We stop there to gather some supplies, gas for the cars, and rest at some place for the night but something tragic awaits us there. After that I'll give you more info on the next area we're going OOCly. That is, if we survive.
