The alarm sounded at 3:30 AM, but it wasn't until 3:45 that Phuong's brain acknowledged the beeping. Sitting up abruptly, Phuong prayed herself to be wide awake, though she still couldn't see straight through her tired pupils. She bounced down the stairs of her academy and into the lobby where she grabbed a slice of sausage, eating it as she rushed towards the showers. Stripping out of her pajamas, Phuong heated the shower and stepped in. As the steam rose, her body woke up slowly.


It wasn't until 4:15 that Phuong stepped out of the warmth and pulled on a nice, black dress with a white collar. She stepped into a pair of black flats. At 4:30 AM, Phuong stepped out the door and walked the two blocks to the airport where she immediately went to security, cringing at the long line. She spent the next hour going through the line and barely made it to her gate at 5:50. The attendants had already called for the first group to begin boarding and were in the process of calling Phuong's group. Rushing to get her ticket out, Phuong got in the line. Without exchanging a word, Phuong gave the attendant her ticket and walked onto the awaiting, silver plane.


After a long time waiting, the plane took off for the long flight. Landing late that night in Denver with only one layover. As she stepped off the plane, Phuong called a cab to take her to a hotel room she'd bought upon the approval call. Phuong rode calmly before collapsing in exhaustion on the couch when she walked in. Her short, brown hair had gotten frizzy and was not splayed out on the fabric behind her head. She couldn't quit thinking about her first day tomorrow and how she would be living in a cabin on the hospital grounds for her intern year.
