Forbidden Romance (@12th Doctor)

Nyssa Al Ghul

Heir to the Demon
|A love story between a student and the professor|

Thea McKinley picked up her books and walked to her first class. It was the first day of university and she was already excited about it. Her first class was Lit. English. She had left 15 minutes early in case she got lost but she ended up reaching 10 minutes early. But the professor was already there. She smiled at him "Morning Professor" she greeted him as she went and took a seat in the second line.

It was early still but as any good professor should, Wesley Jarell was already seated behind his desk, preparing the lesson for the next class. He looked up and smiled at the student who entered the classroom. "Good morning." he replied. Right after her two others arrived and stepped up to his desk.

"Professor, you're new here, aren't you?" One of them asked.

"Actually I've been here for over two years." Wesley replied, smiling at the two girls. One giggled.

"Oh, I didn't know that." The first girl who had asked the question said. "You don't look so old."

Wesley laughed. "Thank you. Why don't you pick a place to sit?" The girls whispered something to one another and made their way to one of the front tables. they sat eerily close to Thea.

"My name's Jona, by the way." The first girl said.

"Yes, and I'm Melinda." Added the second and shyer girl.

"Nice to meet you Melinda and Jona By The Way." Their professor replied with jest. "I'll introduce myself when the others are around. I supposed they won't take long now."

"Ah, you MUST be new." Jona cried out. "Don't you know of the student quarter?" The professor merely blinked and Jona continued. "It means they're always fifteen minutes late."

"Not in my class they won't." Wesley replied, then focused on the papers in front of him. After a short while of penning things down his eyes slid back to Thea.

Thea was busy rummaging things through her bag when 2 other girls entered. They seemed to be a chatty bunch as they talked to the professor as if they had known him all their lives.

She chuckles to herself and goes back to her work, finding the book she was looking for and placing it on the table. She took out another book from the bag, this one a novel so that she could read until the others came.

She smiled at the girls who sat close to her. She didn't bother about introductions as she opened her book and started reading her novel. It was only when they started whispering and giggling about how cute the professor was did she look up from her book to look at the professors.

The girls were not lying, he was indeed good looking. He had this ruggedly handsome look which would make any girl fawn over him. The fact that he was wearing a suit and tie added more to his charm.

Thea smiled to herself and got back to her book wondering how many hearts this professor would have broken with just his looks.

Was he aware of the effect he had? It seemed as if Wesley wasn't. He resumed his role as professor by being silent and distracted by his work until more and more of the students had arrived. Some greeted him, others pashed by in a rush. When he started class it was with a smile and a gesture of his hand. "Welcome students. I know you're all new to this course and dying to get started on this semester's topic. Unfortunately I will have to bore you by introducing myself shortly, afterwards we'll start with the history of English Litarature and I fear that I might be repeating some essential Old and middle English you will have been told at said courses. You all start with Middle English, I believe?" He looked around the class and while some students nodded, another student grunted 'now start the introductions, please.'

Wesley smiled. "My name is Welsey Jarell, I'll be your professor for this year's course, provided that you don't drop out of university."

"How old are you?" One student asked out loud. "What else do you do beside teaching?" Another one shouted. "Are you really a professor?" Yet another one called out.

Wesley's cheeks turned a little pink but other than that he appeared to compose himself quite well. "I am twenty-seven. I life in a small apartment. I have no pets though my sister used to have a dog when we were smaller. My mother still owns a cat now that the dog has gone. Yes, I studied for this and finished my education as I was a rather quick student I was quite young when I got my degree. I think that settles about all. " he looked at the class and pursed his lips. "Oh right, and what do I do besides teaching? I like to mark your tests. So do not fail me." His eyes seemed to turn a tint darker as they slid across the room.

"Now it's your turn. Briefly tell me your name, your hobbies and why you chose to study English Language and Literature. I'll try to memorise your names but doný blame me if I call them out wrong. It's still the first day."

He pointed at the front row. "You start."

As expected by the time everyone came it was almost 15 minutes past the class time. By which time, Thea had finished 2 chapters. She kept her book down once she heard the professor speaking.

She was waiting to start up with literature but it was obvious that the first class will not have much except for introductions.

The questions by her fellow classmates brought a smile to her face. The professor did not lose his cool and answered all the questions politely, which made all the students to like him at once.

It was an unspoken rule that no one misses the class of the friendliest professor even if they were in a critical condition. And it was evident within the first five minutes itself as to who's class no one would miss.

Soon, one by one people started off with their introductions. Thea didn't pay the least bit of attention to it until the person next to her stood up. He finished off his introduction quickly and then it was her turn.

She stood up nervously and cleared her throat "Um. I'm Thea McKinley" she said, the words barely leaving her lips. She wasn't so good when it came to speaking in a huge crowd where everyone's attention was on her.

With a gulp she continued "My hobbies are reading novels, writing and listening to music. I have chosen to study English language because it has a vast history, and also it is the most widely spoken language around the world. I would like to learn English literature because I want to understand why people wrote what they wrote, and feel their feelings which they had while writing it. It's my aspiration to be a writer one day, and I'm pretty sure this class will help me in making my dreams come true" she said finishing her introduction.

She then smiled at the professor before taking her seat. She let out a sigh of relief

"That is quite the challenge you've set for yourself." Her professor's eyes twinkled. Why, of all people, did he have to comment on what she had just said? Wesley didn't stop there though, he continued.

"Becoming a writer is somewhat more of hobby material. Only the really good and the really lucky ones can earn enough to create a living. Unless you marry someone rich of course." Some of the girls laughed at this.

"All right, your neighbour." The next girl stood up and introduced herself, saying she was Caitlyn and she loved horses. The boy that followed was called Frank and according to him his hobby was 'frankly none of anyone's sodding business', which earned him another laugh from the class.

The round was finished sooner than expected, but had still taken a good ten minutes, when their Professor started scribbling something on the whiteboard.

"Call me old fashioned, but I do so love a good bit of scribbling with a pen." he grinned at the class. "All right, this is what we're going to do today. Your homework assignment for next time is on Blackboard. I trust you all have had your passwords and introductions on how to use it.

One of the more observant students pointed out that the second line of their to-do list consisted of the word: Powerpoint.

"That's right." Wesley eyed the boy. "Introductions we've already have had so on to point two. Did you really think I'd be giving you all the information dry as dirt by writing it all down? I'm old fashioned but not that old." He pushed a button and the beamer switched on. A neat projection screen came rolling down and slowly the presentation became visible.

"I'll leave the lights at the back on so you can make any notes." he said.

"Will the powerpoint be on Blackboard?" One of the lazier, cheekier students dared to ask.

"Perhaps, if you all behave and show up each lesson I just might."

"Awwwww, come on." Another one yawned.

"Thea, could you put those novels away. I think my presentation might inspire you more than those award winning novels on your desk."

Thea listened to his words and nodded. She didn't care about money, she wrote because she loved to write, but obviously, now that she had chosen it for major, it's her way to make money.

She sighs and looks at others as they introduced each other. By the time it was done, the whole class had stomach ache with laughter. 'This was going to be nice' she thought as she waited for the professor to start.

The presentation was on the board. She wondered if she should take it down considering the fact that she'll probably attend all the classes any way.

She was thinking what to do when the professor called out her name. She looked up and flushed at his comment. She quickly put her novels into her bag and bit her lip. 'Why did he have to point her out in the first class?' She wondered as she took out a pen and opened her books so that she could take down the notes.

A guy behind her sniggered and whispered to her "Aah you don't have to write. He seems nice, he'll give it to us in the end anyway".

Thea chuckles but shakes her head " It's okay. I want to write" she whispers back and looks at the board.

The class went as well as could be expected and by the end of the lesson the professor told them all to look on blackboard and prepare the assignment he'd posted on there. Also, the presentation of today - which had been very introductory- would be posted by the end of the week since all students except one had attended. And that one missing student had just had an accident so he was excused.

Wesley watched them all pack their bags and didn't seem to be fazed by the amount of students lingering behind. Most of them girls, with the exception of a boy who seemed awfully interested in their professor and who shot him one question after another. The professor skillfully managed to answer the boy's questions without giving any kind of information at all and then, once the boy was gone, smiled at Thea before he grabbed the sheets in front of him.

"Next class will be in soon." He said this out loud so all students who were still present would hear. "I'll see you next week."

Thea enjoyed the class and was disappointed when it got over. She took down the assignment and made a mental note to have it done today itself.

She slowly packed her bags and got ready to leave. As her next class didn't start for another 15 minutes she took her own sweet time.

Few people were lingering around to obviously look at the professor. She had introduced herself to the guy who sat behind her and just as they finished talking she turned around to see the professor flash a smile at her as he was leaving. She smiled back at him and walked out of the class.

She found a bench outside and sat there, opening her novel and starting to read. Her next hour was in the class opposite to the one she was in till now, so she decided to finish another chapter before going to her next class

She saw Professer Jarell exit the classroom just before the start of her own, but that was the last she saw of him that day. The rest of the week was filled with new courses and introductions and at times she would spot the young professor of literature when he walked down a hallway or had a drink with some of the other professors. He never caught her glance, though when she had looked away his eyes fell on her and he remembered her from his class.

A week had passed when Professor Jarell saw Thea standing in front of a closed door. She was early and the classroom hadn't been unlocked yet, which was a task the professor had on his hands. He greeted her and used his key to open the door. "Let's get inside, it's much warmer over there." he told her, and ushered her in.

"Did you bring any novels with you today?" he asked her.

Thea had had a nice week. All the classes had been fun and nice. All the professors seemed to be really friendly and so were the others in her class. She had already settled down before a new week begun.

Even though she hadn't expected to make any friends, she had. 3 of them in fact. She had spent an amazing weekend with her friends before the start of the second week.

After the first class she had not seen much of Professor Jarell, catching him only here and there, but even then he hadn't noticed her.

Her classmates were way further. They had made plans as to who visits staff room on different days, and everyday one of them would go there with a question for the professor.

They used to come back and share about what had happened which would ensure the attention of the whole class. By now, Thea had heard so much about the professor, it was as if she could write a book about him.

In no time, Monday morning dawned and she rushed to her first hour way early than necessary. She had reached the class to see a locked door. She leaned against the door, waiting for the professor, who didn't take much long.

As soon as she heard his voice she turned around and moved from the door so that he could open it and then went in. With a chuckle at his question she showed her bag to him inside which 4 novels could be easily seen.

"I don't go anywhere without a novel" she tells him with a smile. She picks up her assignment from her bag and places it on his desk. "How was your weekend professor" she asks trying to make small talk which she was really bad at.

"Good. It was... good." The professor replied. He took out his own papers, though it weren't many, and prepared the laptop and beamer.

"Did you make the assignment for today?" He asked her while he looked directly at her to see her reply. Perhaps he was trying to see if she'd be lying to him or not, for it certainly looked like he could tell the difference by looking at a student's face.

By now, Jona and Melinda had entered the classroom and threw Thea a nasty glare for beating them to be the first. Also, Jona was clearly not pleased with the conversation between her fellow student and the Professor because she butted in without an apology and asked the professor about the assignment as well as how his weekend was.

"Good." He replied again, but he did not look at Jona. His eyes were on Thea. The other girls noticed and stepped in his view.

"So eh.... We saw you at the Grimlin's Pub last Saturday. At least, I think it was you. It was you, right?" Melinda tried, clearly trying to find out if there were any spots he would visit during his free time.

But Professor Jarell shook his head and smiled friendly at them. "No. I'm sorry. I've never visited a pub called like that."

"You haven't?" Both girls squeaked in a feigned surprise.

"Then where do you go out?" Jona insisted.

Professor Jarell smirked. "So many personal questions, ladies. How about we focus on the summary you had to hand in today. You did finish the assignment, didn't you?"

Both girls turned a bright red. "Of course!" They shouted simultaneously, and they handed him their work. More students arrived, including the boy who had been behind Thea. He now took his place by her side.

"I'd like the assignments on my desk, please." The Professor said and promptly several students rushed to the front to hand in their work.

Thea smiled at the professor "That's nice sir" she said as she gave him her assignment "It was ready the day you gave us the assignment" she says with a smile by which time the flirt queens enter the room. Jona's presence right in front of her made Thea uncomfortable, so she walked away taking her seat.

In no time two of her friends that is Sarah and Oliver walks in and she engulfs into a conversation with them. "You guys ready with your assignments" Sarah asked Thea and Oliver. "Yep!" Said Oliver who took it out. "I already submitted" said Thea which made Sarah go Oooh and Aaah. Sarah loved teasing Thea with every second guy, and the professors were no excuse to this.

By this time Sam had walked in, the guy who sat behind her, and had joined them in their chatter. Once everyone was in class, he sat next to her instead of behind.

Thea flashes him her sweet smile as he does so. Once everyone submitted their assignments, class had become pin-drop silence.

This was of course, broken by some guy in the last bench "Oh look! Everyone did their assignments. Professor you must speak about this to the Dean, he may have a heart attack from joy" which made the class erupt into laughter.

Thea looked at the professor and thought about the way he had looked at her before Jona came in the way. The way his eyes had shone, had sent a shiver along her spine 'He's hot' her mind registered again. But what good would that too? Pretty much everyone in the college thought the professor was hot.

The Professor smiled and it was clear he had to stifle a laugh when the comment about the assignment and the Dean was made. He was clearly amused by it but if he showed it openly then he might get in trouble with the other professors. Word travelled fast, after all.

"It's still at the start of the year." He reminded his pupils. "I'll talk to you about this again when it's nearing the autumn break." He smirked. "Which, you might not have if you don't get good grades for all your courses."

He flipped to the next presentation sheet and the powerpoint depicted an ancient painting. "So, we've had a tiny bit of the Norman Conquest. Let's start there and continue from William one to William two."

// Thank you for not pushing me to reply when I was away all day yesterday. I really appreciate it <3

The class laughed at the professor's words. He was a jovial person indeed. Once the presentation started all eyes were on it.

Everyone opened their textbooks and looked at the presentation trying to understand. English in College was not the same as they had learned in school and without concentration on what was going on it was hard to understand a lot of thing. So, the class had a pin-drop silence as the professor started off with his subject.

The only sound that could be heard was of the heavy brush of pen against the paper as people took notes as fast as possible. Depicting paintings were not as easy as they had thought, and every word which came out of the professor's mouth was in the notes of all the students. Even though it was a studious hour, people loved this class and never wanted it to end.

//No problem at all. No one can be online all the time right? :) .

This explains that when the bell rang and the hour was up. many students kept lingering and only two had dashed off before the bell had actually sounded. The usual 'grab your books ten minutes before time so you can scraper when time's up' did not apply to this class yet.

Wesley explained a few issues to hungry-for-knowledge students - though by the look in their eyes they might just have found a clever way to buy them some extra time in the classroom.

The days that followed were not much different than those of the week before except for the Friday when Thea's lessons had ended and she was on her way home. A bicycle passed her and stopped several feet away from her. The rider descended and pulled his key out of the lock after placing his bicycle against the wall of a tearoom. She recognised it to be her professor and when he turned he recognised her as well for a warm smile was shown.

"Thea, done for the day?" he asked her.

Thea was one of the few who had stayed once the class was done. After few more discussions with the professor all of them took leave for their next class.

That whole week had been extremely busy for Thea, as all the professors had started giving assignments for them. She was stressed out by the time Friday came. For the first time she wanted her classes to come to an end so that she could go and have a nice, lazy weekend.

Thankfully, then had only 3 classes on Friday. So, as soon as they got over, Thea packed her bags and walked out along with her friends. They were asking her to go with them, out of town, just like last weekend but she just rejects their request saying she wanted to rest. So, they leave her there and run off to make plans.

She is taking a slow walk around the campus when she hears the soft noise of bicycle. She turns around to see that it was her Literature professor and smiles widely looking at him as he gets down his bicycle.

"Yes sir" she says with a smile "The last class got over 10 minutes ago" she says with a nod "Are you done for the weekend too sir?" She asks
