Dark clouds slowly crept across the sky above, the pitter patter of scatter rain hitting the cobblestone streets adding to this gloomy day in Terberis. The usual hustle and bustle of the main city market was unaffected though, the common folk not letting a little rain get in the way of the daily rat race called survival. Among these good folk, stood an old man on tattered clothing. His feet firmly planted atop an old crate, his eyes wide and wild. "You fools!" He called, a few disinterested glances turning his way. "Can you not see it? Can you not feel it?! Enone himself is weeping! He weeps for us!" Those glances turned away, another religious fanatic spewing his paranoid ravings. Graphing at straws for attention. Annoying of course, but not uncommon here. The man gasped, clutching at his chest as he threw his head back, wild eyes staring up at the clouded sky. "King Sebastian has forsaken us! He has forgotten us! Sat in his tower, he cannot hear the good people of Liomura!" Once again, a few gazes shifted to watch. Crying so publicly about the king...the guard had already straightened up.
The old man bent forward, eyes finding the crowd shuffling by. "He takes and he takes and he takes! And he gives nothing in return!" The man cried. "His conquests will lead to war! It's already brewing, you cannot ignore the signs!" Once again, the man would be ignored. What was it to them if he started war? Terberis was safe. Nobody could touch it. "Our son's will be stolen and sent to their deaths, our economy will crumble! Nobody will be safe from Sebastian's wrath!" Still he was ignored. The wild look on his eyes turned desperate, he only needed one soul to listen. One man or woman or child to start the rebellion. One heart among the thousands that believed him. "Will you only act when it's too late?" He yelled, his voice breaking, his throat dry and hoarse. He could not ignore the heavy metallic footfalls behind him, guards sporting the royal emerald and gold armor descending onto him like a vulture on a fresh corpse.
He threw himself forward, off the crate and onto the cobblestone. Knobbly knees hit the ground, his hands clawing at the stone to pull himself forward. Thunder tore through the sky as the soft drizzle suddenly turned to an angry downpour. "YOU WILL REGRET IT!" He bellowed, heavy hands closing on his arms, the guard not bothering to put him on his feet. "YOU'LL SEE, YOU'LL ALL SEE! SEBASTIAN WILL BE OUR DOWNFALL!" He fought with the rain to be heard, the common folk turning the faces away from him as the guard dragged him away. Everything was fine. It had to be. Sebastian was simply a man in mourning, the old man was wrong. It was an easy to believe lie. Convenient denial. They had all seen the signs. Hear the rumors from passing merchants, the palace servants. But ignoring the signs was easier than facing them. Than staring down certain death as that man had. But there would no doubt be a few. Brave souls who would challenge what was dawning, how the world was turning. But just how far are the willing to go for Astoria?
Hello, it is I, FireMaiden! And I am once again rebooting my For Astoria! RP. It's a high-fanasty/dark-fantasy RP where a group of people decide to wage war on a king! Yes, I know, that's a pretty standard fantasy set up. But it's fun, so we just won't mention how common it is. Anyway, I've taken inspiration from games like Dragon Age, Fable, a hint of Skyrim here and there. But there is a mountain of lore that I wrote that you have to read for the RP! It's important world building!
The past two times I've started this up, I had a lot of fun, so I'm excited to give it another go. Please read all of the rules, and don't be afraid to ask questions! By the way, this is an RP where everyone will be involved. I want to incorporate your character's stories so everyone has a chance to be the main character. Your actions will also have consequences that really affect the story, so keep that in mind.
General
- All Standard RPN rules
- Your character can be a dick, but you cannot. Be nice OOC
- This is going to have mature, possibly triggering themes, so please be careful
- Do not express interest if you are just going to disappear. I cannot stress this enough.
- I expect good posts, 2+ paragraphs, good grammar, and literacy. I will not, however, crucify you for spelling mistakes, I post from my phone so it’s common.
- I am going to try and make sure each character gets their chance in the spotlight, whether it be defeating a strong boss or an entire subplot (that you can discuss with me). Anyone who tries to constantly keep their character as the center of attention and steal said spotlight from others will be warned. If you are a repeat offender, I will kick you
- This is a fantasy world! So, get creative, Mary and Gary Sues are no fun
- READ ALL OF THE FUCKING LORE, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH
- Read Rule #8 again
- I prefer drawn FCs for this type of RP
- While posting every day is not a requirement, I do expect at least one post a week, preferably more but I understand not everyone has that type of time. After two weeks of inactivity with no explanation, you will be kicked
- This isn’t first come first serve, I’ll pick who I feel work the best and will help make a good team
- I would like you to send me a writing sample before I accept your character
- You can play multiple characters, the limit will be based on how much interest this gets
- Seriously, Read rule #8 again
- Some of your character actions will have consequences, so keep that in mind
- Your character cannot dodge every attack. Your character also cannot hit who they’re fighting every time, especially if they are player characters. There has to be a balance.
- I would like for you to have creative freedom when it comes to weapons, so long as they follow the guidelines I have placed in the lore. If I feel like they don’t fit, I’ll let you know so an edit can be made
- No godmodding or insta hits
- While dice are not being used for this RP, some of your actions will be submitted to a random number generator by me oI a trusted member of the RP to decide just how successful it is. Don't worry though, this will only be the case for major actions!
- Big boss fights are going to happen! And the person that takes them down will change each time, I have a system to do so
- You are not impervious to damage, it’s not feasible that your character would walk away from every fight unharmed. And instant recovery is not possible each and every time, sometimes, in fact, most of the time, you will need to deal with an injured character
- A small teenybopper teen will not be able to defeat battle grandpa who has 20 years more experience with the power of angst or friendship.
- While your race has a max number of spells they can use, it also depends on your age, the older you are the more spells you will know
- If any spell you pick seems overpowered, I will not allow it without editing. And then if editing does not fix the spell, I will not allow it.
- Please pay attention to what I have written in the lore, magic may be abundant but there are limitations for a reason
- Absolutely no godmodding or insta hits
- Any spells that involve possibly forcing a reaction from another player character needs to be discussed with the target first. If anyone tries to break this rule or force a reaction regardless of what's discussed and agreed upon, there is a good chance I will kick you.
- Runes! Runes are free to use, but not every character knows how to make them. Not every character can use them successfully, and they have just as much of a chance to fail as other types of magic does. That being said, there are many different types of runes and so you have quite a bit of freedom. I will deny runes I feel are overpowered just like I do with spells
- Cross school spells are rare AF, and it for people who have spent their entire lives studying magic. Crossing schools (say having a fire spell and also a shadow spell) is fine. Spells like magma are going to be limited to the people who fall into that category
- Like weapons and armor, spells haveLore their limits where it being range, power type, energy, time to cast, etc, etc. They will sometimes fail. They will sometimes be used against opponents who aren’t that affected. Keep this in mind
- If you've read this far, and read every single rule…tell me what your favorite fantasy game is and what class you normally play
