Are You Prepared to Save the Earth?
You know how some people are naturally warmer than others, or naturally colder? The cells in our bodies tend to react at different temperatures, which is why some people have lower or higher natural body temperatures. This proved to change the human race substantially when the solar system changed.

Over time, the planet underwent global warming and then a global freezing as the sun did things that were most unexpected - it changed shape and color to become a smaller, brighter, ball of light. Because of its change in size, half of the Earth dropped in temperature and the other half became much hotter, because of the alteration of the sun's heat. It was later discovered that a colony of stars just beside our solar system burst into an array of supernovae, fueling the sun and providing it with the means to morph into a smaller, more efficient star; a star with a longer lifespan and an intriguing effect on the planet Earth. Mercury disintegrated entirely, and some of the outer planets shattered into billions of crystallized gaseous pieces.

As the planet progressed in age, the tectonic plates of the Earth shifted to once more form a large body of land facing the younger sun, scorched into deserts, while the opposite side of the Earth froze over, creating an icy wasteland. Islands populated the equator, taking up as much space as they could and keeping a somewhat maintainable environment for animals and for the people who survived. As the temperatures grew more severe over the course of several centuries, the people who had lower body temperatures than the average 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit became known as Cryo-humans and developed bodies resistant to the cold and harsh environments they endured. The people who had higher body temperatures than the average 37 degrees Celsius became known as Igni-humans, who could survive in the blistering deserts without breaking a sweat.

There are people who didn’t change - the Norm-humans, who can survive in any temperature with the proper attire, just as we do today. They reside in the lands in between the Cryo-Realm and the Ignis-Realm, where the temperatures are bearable for these norm-humans. Cryos can only survive in cold weather, while Ignis can only survive in hot weather. This made interaction between the different races much more difficult than when there were hundreds of countries scattered across the planet, but peace was achieved. The Solar System Shift, as it is now called, killed off the majority of the Earth's population with such extreme temperature fluctuations, but allowed those with the cells that reacted under certain temperatures to endure the changes and end up evolving in a much more accelerated matter (according to the scientists of the now slim world, too much star dust does that to people).

The remaining billion or so people found ways to survive, communicate, and evolve technology to the best of their abilities, but several decades after the people of Earth became adapted to the Solar System Shift, a new problem surfaced. One that no one knew how to solve, despite the advances made in science, technology, and culture.

It began with one death, something about a virus or flu taking them. Little did the people in that city know, it was a literal bug that was killing these people, feeding on their unique cells. Some were immune, while some suffered a far worse fate. It was discovered that Norm-humans were immune to these insects, and the Cryo-humans suffered one type of bug in their region while the Ignis-humans suffered a variation of the same insect from their own. When the bugs were switched, they refused to eat.

As the Norm-scientists continued to experiment on the contained insects, two teams had to be set up, with new suits designed to protect them from the weather, because they would need it. A team of Cryos and Norms were to be sent to the South pole, which was the part of the Earth now facing the sun, while a team of Ignis had to go to the North, amidst the sea of ice. It was at these locations that the Meta-scientists detected the most insect activity, so a Queen had to be present at each. Since the insects did not kill those of the opposite temperature, each team would be going into unknown territory, and each team would have those experienced in combat, scientists, engineers, and doctors, because if these insects never surfaced before, who's to say nothing else will appear?

"The lights are on. We may begin.

Picture this:
Miniscule creatures that resemble insects, but are in many ways different. So small that even their touch to your skin is unnoticed by the hair follicles that adorn it. So small that they may fit inside your pores and invade your body in thousands upon thousands of locations. Chemically, these creatures release toxins that eliminate antibodies and eliminate tissue cells as they spread, causing your body to deteriorate from the inside out. You know that nightmare of insects climbing into your ears and laying eggs in your brain? Instead, these bugs come through every possible entrance: every pore, every wound, every pathway from the outside of your body to within. They multiply asexually and adapt to different conditions - when one type of food is gone, they find another. The death is agonizingly painful, and there is no cure, except the mission that Teams Ignis and Cryo are about to take upon themselves. Instead, the victims are quarantined, and are forced to die slow, agonizing, deaths without the presence of their loved ones. It is not something you wish to have befall unto you.

That is why you were chosen for either of the teams. You must travel to the cores of each realm, Cryo and Ignis,
and discover the cause of this new infestation. Perhaps it isn't new and is thousands of years old. Perhaps it's foreign to this world, or perhaps it is older than humanity and has been lying dormant for centuries. Only you and your team will find out. Vanquish the threat that moves to wipe out humanity. Save the planet you live on, or die fighting for it. You will be paid generously for your journey, and only the best of equipment will be available to you.
However, there is one condition: you must tell no one.

You may fall in love, you may establish relationships, you may fight creatures unknown, and you may find even larger threats than the insects that prey upon our kind. It is your choice to make, regarding what occurs during the mission. But the only choice you do not have is surrender. You will not be permitted to retreat or give in. You will fight or you will die trying."

Bugs. It had to be bugs.

The white-haired woman sighed with annoyance, her exhalation releasing a cloud of smoke via the cigarette she had drawn it from. She had already burned through have the stick by the time she was at the enormous rendezvous point for her team and of course, herself. She organized the meet-up based on location, privacy, and time of day; she chose the perfect moment for the seven of them to gather together and depart before the sun could make any headway on the dim side of the planet. It was never truly night, thanks to the shift in the planet's alignment, but there were points when some parts of the land were brighter than others, which she avoided.

Tapping her foot at the ground in irritation, the middle-aged woman glanced around the deserted area and looked back to her watch to view the time. It was 0445 hours, fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled debriefing. The albino female was not only fully dressed in her S.C.I.N. suit, but accompanied by two crates as well, both withholding supplies and utilities from the view of rare passerby or the team members themselves. Well, it would if they would hurry their asses up. Military is trained to be up and ready and on time or early, if possible. Where the hell are these people? She thought grumpily, irked by the lack of preparation and haste to be taken by the others of the team. She was already familiar with all of their statistics, skills, appearances, histories, etc., so she knew that some would have longer distances to go and might not be used to getting up so early, but if they weren't at the rendezvous point by 0500 hours, she would take what members were present and leave.

[Assuming all members arrive on time or prior, read through the following. You must describe how they arrived,
etc., in order to have a longer post.]

At 0500 hours, the paper-white woman gestured at the team to follow her to a point in the very large wall behind her that had a door hidden from view to the citizens of the Norm Region of the Earth. The wall itself was designed to protect the Norm-Humans from the cold and the Cryo-Humans from the warm, but now includes protection from the insects as well. A protective field of membranous high-energy electrons encircles the planet along the wall in order to keep the insects from crossing over to reach any Cryos residing in the Norm Region, but allowing any human to pass through, after being checked for the minute insects (however, it has been proven that the S.C.I.N.S. provide a method for the creatures to cross without being noticed, which has induced further panic and increased infestation rates).

Before opening the metal door to the Cryo Region, the Captain of Team Ignis faced her team and nodded to the lot of them in acknowledgement before speaking:

"Hello, Team Ignis. My name is Skylark Iris, but y'all can call me Sky. I do not tolerate ignorant folk, nor do I permit the disobedience of my orders. I am your Captain and you will treat me as such, regardless of nicknames. What we are about to go through may be dangerous, and I need to know that y'all will listen to me when our lives are in danger and when they aren't. I need you to trust me, as your leader, to ensure the survival of us all. Now that that is out of the way, let's cut to the chase. This may very well be a suicide mission. Y'all knew that when you signed onto this team. We don't know what's out there, but it could kill us, and we need to be wary, cautious, and alert at al times. I understand if y'all don't wanna be serious, trust me - I'd rather relax, smoke a cig, and have a beer. But I do not want carelessness to be why all of us die from some unknown creature or something that we could prevent."

Sky spoke with a slight country accent, passed down by her family over the generations despite the change in the land of the Earth. Rednecks all stayed together, it would seem. As she was hidden from the sun's glare, Sky kept her helmet off and turned her blue gaze from one team member to the next. "You all have very specific, very necessary roles. Do not act as if that makes you better than anyone, 'cause it doesn't. Treat each other with respect and we'll get along just fine. As for the mission, here are the major details: we will be traveling to the very pole of the Earth opposite to the South Pole; Weapons are a must have, if you don't provide your own we have spare military grade handguns available in this here crate." Sky gestured to the larger crate of the two as she mentioned it before continuing, "Other things in this here crate consist of emergency supplies, ammo for all your weapons, and any extra shit y'all with the implants and prosthetics might need. We thought of everything." Sky said the last phrase with a lopsided grin, then lifted up the large packet of folders planted on top of the two crates.

"These are your packets of information. I know everything about every one of you. I know the shit you've done, I know why you're here. So don't try to keep shit from me. Now in the smaller of the two crates is our home base. It's a rather intriguing concept, and I think you'll enjoy the settings made when we've traveled 12 hours on foot, not including breaks." Sky's grin was malicious at that point as she was well aware that many would not be comfortable walking for so long, or desire anything of the sort. Nonetheless, that's what was entailed in the mission when they learned of it, so they would have to deal.

"Is there anything else that y'all want to know? Questions? I have answers."

The transmission played over several times in her head on the way to see the Captain. Maybe it was because she listened (or watched?) to it over and over again for days after recieving it. It took time for necessary preparations to take place between the time she initially recieved the message and now, and during that time while paper work and all kinds of shit was being sorted out, she would listen to the transmission, ingraining it into her head. It bugged her. These tiny beings of death and plague. Dani being Dani, of course she jumped on the mission right away.

This particular morning was different. She spent weeks preparing and getting her mind straight for this task, but for some reason today, all that work was gone. She couldnt tell if it was excitement or nerves, maybe a mix of both, but either way she was not going to be a little bitch about it. Looking down at her watch, Dani mumbled under her breath, "04:45...." she was cutting it close. Dani lived about 2 hours away from the base, and had to get up extra early, almost having no sleep. She arrived at the base around 0415 but was held up when security officials had to check her clearence. Those dunces looked so confused, and they were young too, probably rookies. They had her wait for a good 25 minutes before they let her pass, even then they instructed her to park her car so that she can use one of the base's official vehicles. Once she chose a spot, Dani sat in her car for a moment or two, the windows were rolled up and very, very old music blared through the speakers. She turned off the engine, and soaked in the music that reminded her of her and her husband. She would take music with her anyway, but leaving the car and the music left in it the day he died felt like she was leaving him. But she had no choice. Pulling the key out of the ignition was like ripping kff a band-aid, and before she could give another thought, she hurried out of the car. A 4x4 car, all terrain, open roof, and by the way the it purred: a v8 engine, waited for her. Good power. Dani looked at her car behind her, one last time, not knowing whether she would see it again or not. It was the only piece of home she had to look at while on this base, "Ms. Snypes we really should get going," they hurried her, inturrupting the reminiscing look in her eyes.
"Yea, yea, Im going...." she raised the helmet she carried in her right hand and snapped it on, the HUD immediately flickering on when she did, her other hand slung a backpack and an AR-15 with a strap over her shoulder. She did a quick check of her belongings then climbed into the vehicle and immediately the driver took off...seemed to be in a hurry. And thats where she is now....

Looking up from her watch, after it just struck a minute after 0445, the car came to a halt and Dani jumped out, her heavily armored boots thumping the dirt upon her landing, where there were more military personnel waiting to escort her to the Captain for a debriefing. As soon as Dani walked into the tent/building/room and met eyes with her new Captain, she twisted to unlock and took off her helmet, only sharply grow stiff at attention. She wasnt sure if she should do something with her hands, given that shes never been in the military but she figured she should give some sort of acknowledgement or respect. Danielle rested her helmet between her arm and her side and proceeded to move aside for anyone else that may be coming in behind her.

It seemed like everyone came in suddenly, one after the other. And once everyone was checked in, the Captain began her prepared speech, promptly at 0500. Danielle scoffed looking up from her watch once again,'This woman means business.' The engineer listened as the white haired woman talked about the wall, the bugs, and showed them folders of information that was meant for the team, but she especially caught Dani's attention when she mentioned a crate of care equipment for her arm. Aw, how considerate. Her green eyes looked back up at the Captain when she mentioned a 12 hour trek on foot. Not too bad, shes done some thing like that once before and was tired as shit afterward but it was still doable. "Questions? I have answers." Dani took a quick glance to her left and right, at the others to see if they were going to ask anything.... Hopefully not.

HELIOS RETHYARA
"Yo Barney! I told you death can't hold me!" Helios laughed, spinning away from his desk with his chair. He put his hands behind his head, leaning back. "Looks like somebody takes my work seriously." Barney, Helios's cousin, and one of the last five surviving members of the Rethyara clan, thumped his way down the stairs to look at the current window open on Helios's device. The large, spacious house once had 20+ people to live in it, a tight-knit family of orange-skinned lunatics, each a tad crazy in their own little way. Now it felt empty, with only him, barney, their grandmother, barney's father, and another cousin. "The hell?" Barney said, "You fuckin' nuts, you're gonna get yourself killed." "Thats what you said the last time man! And the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that..." Helios grabbed his cousin by the neck, punctuating each "time before that" with a noogie, or one as well as they could pull off with the suits on. Eventually they tussled playfully, making quite a ruckus, before their grandmother put a stop to it. After proudly explaining what was going on, she wore a face that only a concerned grandmother would be able to pull off. "Be safe," she said, "Die a hero, or not at all."

The next morning Helios was tearing across the scorched earth on a motorcycle from the family garage. It was his beforehand, but his family shared everything. "Our house." "Our food." "Our cars." Sometimes even "Our toothbrush" when one of the little ones lost theirs. But there were no little ones anymore.

Eventually, he pulled up to a checkpoint, not even a couple football feilds from where he needed to be. Rolling up like a punk biker made them wary, and it didn't help that he visibly carried a gun. "Stop! No civilians beyond thi-" "SHHHHHhushushushushushhh" Helios interjected, holding up his usual lab credentials, a copy of the message he'd recieved, and a scolding finger. The fuzz gave them a look over once, twice, three times (you don't usually see a quantum physicist wearing all black, a helmet that looked from "out tha 'hood", and carrying a small shotgun, letalone riding a motorcycle) and finally said "Your vehicle will be impounded untill your return." "Eh, no need," Helios said, pulling out a little remote from one of the compartments, pressing a button, then replacing it. The motorcycle whirred to life, and went back home on its own accord. Waving goodbye to the officers, Helios continued to the meeting area.

Once there, the captains words kinda just flew by him. He'd gotten the general gist of the mission. He knew he'd be working with "le bugz," he had before. He knew alot more about them than any other ignis, even contributed to humanity's most recent understanding. He began inspecting crates, and finding them full of handguns, began toying with one, spinning it in his hand. "...We have spare military handguns available in this here crate..." Those words were music to his ears. Helios promptly stuck the gun at his hip holster, as opposed to the larger one that was on his back. It wasn't his personal design, where the gun used a block of metal for ammunition, and shaved off tiny but efficient projectiles as needed, but it wouldn't hurt to have something that didn't burn your hands if you pulled the trigger mpre than four times consecutively.

Helios continued rummaging around, finding a spare block of metal (not designed for his shotgun but it would do) and pocketed that as well. "I know everything about every one of you..." the captain said. Helios stopped what he was doing, and looked up to see the captain staring directly at him. "Don't try to keep shit from me." Helios was greatful his visor kept his cocky grin from being seen, but at the same time, amused it was also painted on the outside of his helmet. "Well I didn't think I was that interesting," he said with a singsong, hearty laugh in his voice. She was almost done talking, however, and Helios imagined he'd have to pay for that in some way later. Eh, he'd just roll with it. Its not like he wasn't always facing void knows what out in the middle of buttfuck freezing nowhere anyways. He'd be fine.

"No please don't hurt me anymore, I'll do anything!", said a voice crying out from the darkness of a back alley. Their voice was laden with terror, and in the dim light of an alley it appeared to be a man. However this was hard to tell with what was only mere scraps of flesh left on his face left to go on. In front of the poor sod was a person clad in a charcoal black leather coat, and an eerie white mask that looked streaked by tears. In their hand was a bloodied bowie knife, the same one they used to carve the man's face like a halloween pumpkin. The scariest part to the man lying down wasn't the facial carving, it was the fact that the person in front of him stood unfazed at what they were doing - as if they were possessed by a monster that had corrupted their humanity.

"W-why are you doing this, I-I have a family I have to support. Please, they'll die without me!", the man continued on. With a smile underneath their mask the monster finally began to speak. "I know how it's like to grow up without a father, and I'm terribly sorry I picked you out of everyone else. If you had said this earlier, I would've let you go. But..", as they continued to speak their feet slowly grew closer to the man. After getting so close that they could hear the mans shaking breath, they began to speak again. ".. now look at you, you're going to die of bloodloss no matter what. I'll make you a promise though, I'll make deposits to your families account monthly. I'm not short on money..", with the final words they slid a knife across the man's neck, coating their facemask in crimson.

After cleaning up the body, the killer glanced at their watch whilst flipping a coin. On it read 0225, and with a smile on their face they left the alley, muttering "It's time to get to work Altius.". After half a mile of walking, Alt heard the sharp piercing scream of a bystander finding their victim's corpse. It was music to their ears, and they savored every last drop of the noise. Arriving at their car, they got into its black leather interior. With the beautiful purr of its engine starting, they started off to work.

Arriving at the building, they were surrounded by the buildings security for arising suspicion because of the crimson coating them. After showing the damn pigs their note though, they quickly fucked off. Entering the building, they were met by an woman more resembling a ghost than a person. However Alt quickly darted to the side and entered a restroom intent on first cleansing their uniform of blood before being seen. After a few minutes of scrubbing they were spotless, and they hustled back to the woman and got into line with the others.

It seemed they were right on time, as right when Alt got into line the Cap'n started to speak. As the speech drew to a close, the Cap'n said they were permitted to ask questions. Despite it probably being a rhetorical question, Alt decided to ask a question anyways. "What happens if we die on the trip? I mean I know what I signed up for, but if I die I need someone to take my dog."

Elegant mixtures of the harmonious cello and the sweet sounding piano notes pranced around, echoing in a dimly lit room. It's eerie, yet oddly relaxing harmony added to the feel of the room as Ms. Keller sat in the room with her thin legs crossed sipping on lavender tea. A velvet felt dress covered her legs respectfully hiding the aged spider veins, wrapping her body in it's velvety warmth. She stared out the window that was falsely set up with a holographic projectile of a raging sea, though it was hard to tell reality from fiction as it seemed so surreal. Memories of the past swirled around and danced in chaotic laughter in her mind, swarming with false happiness and the moments of blood. As Ms. Keller stared out, drinking and thinking, a small projectile popped up in front of the window of a Transmission sent in. It followed the movement of her eyes to directly in front of her towards the table. The music silenced as the transmission opened up and began. Moments passed as the transmission finished leaving Ms. Keller staring at it as if questioning the thing. Her hand, fragile yet smooth held her chin up as her index finger moved up caressing her past her lips to her cheek.
Checking the time, Ms. Keller assumed it would be best to not waste any precious time and to be on her way. She was a very "classic" woman of her time. Taking her glass cup of tea, she placed it in a stainless steel sink of sorts carefully and made her way to a room to change to more appropriate clothing. About thirty minuets passed before she walked back out in some comfortable, clean clothes and headed out the door with a small bag. This small bag was black as coal, and had a very dried leather smell indicated it was possible this bag has seen some years on it. Inside contained surgical equipment and other minor supplies, it was held like a suitcase and demanded business. Ms. Keller does not drive anymore, or chooses not to thus a car pulled up shined and well put together. In the driver seat sat a proper young lad who awaited on the woman who was getting in the car. Her luggage sat next to her as the car begun to pull off away from her small home.
Silence carried throughout the ride, but as the destination approached the young man spoke giving a small glance to the woman in the back through the chrome rear view mirror. "How long will you be gone Madame Keller?" Spoken calmly. It was obvious this young man knew the woman for some time but their connection was probably small. Ms. Keller continued to watch out the window as she replied; "The questions is not when, but will. I am far too old to be doing such things now days anyways." She spoke calmly as she did not care for the answer to the question, and fate was inevitable if something was to happen. "Well, if you do not return, what should we do with your belongings?" The young man spoke again almost concerned. "Burn them..." Ms. Keller said as they reached their destination, and she simply walked out shutting the door behind her.

Entering the building, Ms.Keller was fully examined for any dangerous signs of 'bugs'. The building itself hardly reminded her of the past buildings she use to work in though there were some resemblance. A man in a S.C.I.N.S suit escorted her to where she needed to go and it was probably out of pity for her age. It was no matter though. Upon arriving to a large metal gateway or door, she took a piece of paper she received prior of the list of people she would be working with, and glanced over it. There she noted the description of their leading Captain and General, which could be seen just up ahead.
As she approached the woman, she simply addressed herself; "I am Ms.Keller, the Doctor hired for this 'mission'." She said almost annoyed of the fact. "You must be the General...General Adament, correct?" Ms. Keller held herself properly and appeared as if she was here only on business; as it should be. She examined the woman, seeing if she could find any physical weak points but then glanced back up eye to eye.

The good doctor was up early, far before the crack of dawn....or whatever passes for the dawn on this side of the planet. He had heard that it was once very easily discernable but with the whole world getting metaphorically punted by God, he was happy to even have a planet, much less a life to live.

Kallen lived reasonably close to the base and had always gone out of his way maintain a healthy, fit body and intellectual mind. Rising 2 hours before the appointed meeting time to try and kill two birds with one stone. The doc walked the 5 miles to the military base while simultaneously reviewing the files that uploaded into his datapad. He had the info moved to his suit's HUD and was reviewing it for the 7th time. Dr. Preston was a rather light hearted man but he worried even himself with how meticulous he could be. Luckily, he had thought ahead for that very fact and uploaded his favorite digital instrument program into his pad. The program would create a light, blue hologram of the instrument of his choice and he could "play" it. The program would recognize the muscle movements and play the appropriate sounds. It didnt feel as good as the real deal but its not like he could carry an abundance of instruments on this little adventure. Not to mention.....how in the world he carry a piano everywhere?

.......

The look on the face of the guards was priceless when they were talking about impounding vehicles. When he declared he walked the whole way, their jaws practically dropped out of their helmets! It was such a rare thing in this day and age after all. Still, they merely went through some basic protocol and he went along with any procedures they needed. The guards thanked him for being so cooperative before having someone escort him to his destination. Apparently, they had been having a rough day with the other members.

The Doc had trickled in like the rest and stayed quiet during the Captain's little introduction though he didn't remove his helmet like the others. By the sounds of it, they were moving out ASAP. When the captain began offering guns, ammo, amd supplies, Kallen grabbed one of the provided handguns and examined it curiously before holstering it. "Well, never shot a gun before. Hopefully I'll never have to either." His voiced chimed in through the comms in his helmet.

The middle aged man double checked all of his medical equipment before politely waving at his apparent team.

Dr. Prof. Whateverthehellyouwannacallhim. Jack Faux | Location: Rendezvous Location

Faux cocked his head left and right, looking down the windows and past the thin clouds as he hummed to the intricate melody of Maurice Ravel's 'Scabro' from 'Gaspard de la Nuit' that was playing through the head unit. He hit all the arpeggios and chromatic runs perfectly and on key as he continued to flawlessly maneuver the lab helicopter he was borrowing towards the designated location.

And after several minutes of sophisticated humming and flawless helicopter-flying, Faux had finally arrived at the gate of the designated rendezvous point. He carefully lept off the door-ledge and onto the asphalt upon landing the helicopter right by the gate.

Faux fried to stride his way towards the gate but his body's failure to properly adjust itself and adapt to the S.C I N.S suit he was wearing made his movrment profoundly awkward and comparable to that of an individual suffering from mini-seizures.

The guards were terrified enough of the helicopter that just appeared out of nowhere and landed several feet before them and the funny man in a robot suit marching and twitching awkwardly towards them simply exacerbated their inwards trepidation.

"H-hey! Stop right there! Uh.. Dont come any closer! This is a restricted area! Turn back or we'll pacify you-"

"There's no need for that, gentlemen. I'm Jack Faux. Now please, step aside."

"... Who..?"

"God-fuc-jus-urgh, take it-"

Faux then fumbled his hands into his backpack only to pull out a nametag in which he hurled at one of said guards ere shrugging off his awkward movement, proceeding towards the gate via a casual stroll after snatching his tag back.

"Whoa! Wai-wha-..? Oh, Jack.. Faux..? Go on right ahead, sir. But I'm afraid we'll have to impound your, uh.. Vehicle... Once we figure out how..."

"No, no, It's on autopilot - it'll find its way back to the lab."

And by the time Faux had reached the gate, the helicopter had already departed, leaving the guards rather perplexed, "Dude, doctors are weird, man..."

"4:55.. Huh, could've been worse..."

Faux proceeded past the gate and onto the supposed rendezvous point. He eventually met up with the rest of the crew although no communication took place between him and anyone. Not that there were any time for introductions.

Faux was well-informed regarding his team members' identities as well as several other supposedly significant and noteworthy individuals. That included the Captain positioned stoically at the front of the court.

As expected, the Captain's prepared speech was initiated at 5:00 sharp. Well, as per the Captain's timepiece, at least. The speech went on just as Faux had expected. He was well aware of the announcements and explanations regarding the wall, the 'bugs' they were dealing with and so forth.

"I'm so proud of you. Make sure you come back to me."

Invidia stared at the flickering holographic recording of her father for about the hundredth time since he'd sent it to her two days before, at the gray flecking his black hair that he liked to say showed up all at once the day s he was born, at the laugh lines around his eyes, making deep trenches in his pale blue skin whenever he smiled. She smiled at the still image before hitting a button on the holo-emitter on her wrist, causing the image to fold in on itself and vanish.

She turned to grin out the window of the black self-driving car that she was sitting in as it barreled down the road toward her destination: The rendezvous point for Team Cryo on the edge of Ignis territory. It had been little over a week since she'd received the transmission cluing her in on what she and the rest of her team would be doing in the sweltering side of the planet. She couldn't say that she wasn't frightened, but she was also thrilled. The closer she got to meeting up with the others, the more adrenaline pumped through her veins, urged on by her quickened heart.

The display on the car's dash pinged and flashed a warning: Ten minutes to the scheduled meeting time. She took a deep breath and glanced into the back seat, unnecessarily checking to make sure she had everything, despite having checked at least four times before leaving. Her small tool box had shifted some in the seat and was now leaned halfway off the edge against the back of the passenger seat, where her small automaton, Pip, was blinking silently, letting her know that it was on standby mode. The small four legged insectoid robot didn't have any sentience at all, but she had programmed it with a few basic subroutines that made it imitate the personality of a friendly dog when outside of repair mode. It had been a good companion for the years since she'd built it, and she'd figured it would come in handy on the mission.

She gave the robot an affectionate pat on the head, or what resembled one at least, and looked back out the windshield as the car rolled to a halt next to a pair of uniformed guards who waved for her to roll her window down. She complied, leaning out the window and giving the guards a smile.

"Invidia Faraday, engineer," she said proudly, holding out a hand to the guard closer to her, who took it with a blank expression. As he did, her holo-emitter activated, bringing up an ID screen with her credentials and clearances. "I hope all my stuff's in order."

"Yes ma'am," the guard said with a nod, releasing her hand. "But he have to impound your vehicle until you return. You'll be escorted the remainder of the way by one of our own."

"Sure thing!" Invidia wasted no time getting out of her car, hitting a button on Pip's thorax before throwing open her door with a bit more force than she'd intended, due to her excitement, forcing the guard to jump back to avoid being hit. "Sorry!" She said, a purple flush going to her blue cheeks. "I'm just super excited. I dunno what all I can say, not sure what I'm allowed to tell people. Wow it's been hard, keeping this all to myself, y'know? Of course you know, you've probably seen way cooler stuff out here than I'll ever dream," she chuckled and continued rambling to the guards, who shared a look while she was bent down grabbing her bags out of the back seat. Pip let out a few tiny beeps and scrambled out of the car behind her, crawling up her leg and attaching itself to a port on the back of her S.C.I.N.S. suit with a small click.

Invidia turned to the guards, throwing a final bag onto her shoulder, careful not to hit Pip. "Ready when you are!" She tossed the key to her car at one of them and trudged off to the vehicle that had pulled up when she was dragging her stuff out. She tossed her stuff in ahead of her and clambered in, making light conversation with--or more to--the driver the entire way to the rendezvous point.

Once there, she hopped out and all but ran to where the others were gathered, some already in their own suits as well. She hadn't bothered with her helmet yet, though, keeping it tucked firmly under her arm until needed. As cool as the things were, they certainly weren't comfortable by any means. She gave a grin to her other team members, giving a nod and a small wave to the ones who were obviously in charge.

She could barely stand still during the initial briefing, she spent the whole time shifting from foot to foot and fiddling with random parts of her suit. She practically jumped for joy when the captain finished speaking, ready to get this mission underway. She bet she'd have some great opportunities to test out heat stresses on her new projects!

This was going to be a helluva lot of fun.

With an ear-to-ear grin, Kyreil skipped her way from the Plaza of Entertainment, a location within the Norm region of the world created with the purpose to bring joy and happiness to those seeking a refuge from the disastrous reality outside. It was filled with extravagant decorations and had all sorts of excitement to be marveled at, such as theater plays, artistic pieces on both canvases and the building itself, musical concerts of all kinds, etc. It was Ky's home, and it was a place she always enjoyed spending time in, regardless of how many times she's seen a certain act or piece of art. Artists stick together and express their creativity in multiple ways, all of which deserve to be admired.

That's what Ky believed, anyway, and that's where she left, a smudge of blue paint on her right cheek as she left, her blue hair in pigtails with the purple streak sticking out and dangling beside her face. Her bright eyes observed the buildings around her with cheer sparkling in them, as well as the technology present in one of them. The robotic eye she had could see through the buildings she was passing by, allowing her to see the meeting group of her fellow team members, as well as the poor, unsuspecting guards fiddling with their electronic clipboards as they tried to figure out how to react to all of the ne'er-do-wells assembled by the wall in between the Norm Region and the Ignis Region. With a soft giggle, Ky put her helmet on and reached into the duffel bag she carried, removing two paint cans of shimmering gold and metallic blue, her grin growing even more than any human could imagine possible as she ran in her wedged heels up to the side of the building opposite of the soldiers, her feet landing on the side of the building with a soft thud.

The lean and muscular female then began walking up the side of the building, her boots allowing her to travel against gravity with ease as she reached the roof, quickly approaching the area above the two soldiers with her two paint cans dangling precariously from her hands by the fibers that allow her to attach herself to whatever substance. With a laugh, the mischievous female leapt from the building, doing a swan dive until she neared the ground and grabbed a nearby pole, using the velocity of her fall to swing her body around the pole and into the view of the two soldiers, her paint cans spraying the mists of color across the faces of each soldier as she flew by, which resulted in shouts of surprise and pain, much to her chaotic enjoyment. The female somersaulted on the ground as soon as her feet touched it to avoid any injury, and she quickly bounced to attention soon after she regained her balance, proceeding to run past the two soldiers who were still attempting to regain their vision.

Her breathing only slightly erratic, the female arrived last out of all of the team members, only a minute or two past the designated meeting time. The duffel bag she had held tightly against her body as she made her arrival by the two soldiers now dropped to the ground with a rather loud thud, the sound of cans rattling coming from the interior of the durable cloth bag. Not a moment later did the sound of air hissing come from the helmet of the agile female as she pulled it from her head, her tiny pigtails sticking out as she looked about the group, giving them a lopsided smile.

"Hiya everyone. You all seem interesting, and it's a good thing you got here before me, 'cause the Cap will probably give a shit about it. Me? I don't give a hot damn. I also don't give a shit about files, so I'll learn about y'all on my own terms, rather than the government's. Or the Council's. Whatever they're called. Anyway, here's the speech for Team Ignis, or whatever..." Ky trails off into the little speech she was given by the Captain via electronic messaging, which she can see as if there were a screen in front of her thanks to her bionic eye. Once the whole shebang was over and done with, she blinked away the message and looked at the group.

"So, any of you guys have any questions? If not, let's get this party started!"

Gerald Flint

The Ogier Gate, that was the name Gerald had been given. He'd done a little bit of research while on the monorail here, turns out the name comes from a legendary figure in European literature, called Ogier the Dane, who has - or more likely in Gerald's mind, had - a statue of him in Kronborg Castle, which now was not quite so castle-like. The legend goes that he is asleep there, and it was also said that when Denmark, the country to which his moniker referred to, was in peril, that he would awaken. Turns out statues don't just wake up and save countries. Still, it was an appealing legend, so he could understand why someone would name something after it, even if the Wall wasn't really at his famed resting place.

Regardless of origins, there was no public transport directly to it, so Gerald was stuck with walking, already wearing his S.C.I.N.S. suit, helmet and all. It was perhaps a little odd, but Gerald had no qualms with odd. It wasn't his problem that people thought he was a weirdo walking around in that. He also didn't really mind the walk, and he took it with an unhurried pace. He'd given himself a lot of extra time for the walk, since he'd never really intended to just head straight to the site. And so he took his time, taking in the ambiance of a city for what may be the final time in his life, if that doomy notification he'd received were accurate. And it probably was, since this felt a little too big for the Council to be misleading him. Then again, you could never put it past the high-ups to be playing something close to their chests. That's what happens when you lose touch with the rest of meta-humanity, everything just becomes numbers. That's why he was reluctant to let himself get promoted. He didn't want that to happen to him.

He came up on a checkpoint into the meeting point, and silently held out his ID to get scanned, then get let through. There were no words between them, which Gerald appreciated. He wasn't really in a social mood today. He'd rather just be out in the wilds somewhere, helping build wells and finding lost travelers, the usual stuff in his day. But the needs of the world wouldn't wait, so here he was. He came up on the group, nodding politely to each of them but staying quiet, sitting himself down onto the floor with crossed legs and closed eyes.

Some time later, whether that was minutes or seconds, the nearby sound of shouting caught his attention, and he began to rise, only for another person in a S.C.I.N.S. suit to come racing into view, pulling off their helmet to reveal a paint-stained female face with neon blue hair in pigtails. In a dropped duffel bag, cans rattled. For a split-second that didn't make any sense, then he remembered that she was holding paint cans. He wanted to call her just a rebellious youth, but there wasn't any way that the Council would put just any old anti-authoritarian graffiti artist onto the team, she was clearly of significant skill in some way.

The girl launched into a spiel, and eventually asked for any questions. He'd heard her tone before. She was reading a lot of that off. It was pretty distinct in the way she talked, too. There was a clear difference between what was her and what wasn't, if you paid attention, which Gerald most certainly did. That was probably something she'd been told to say, presumably by their absent Captain. The shouts floated back into his mind, and he raised a hand. "Why was there shouting just before you got here?" he asked, naturally deep voice made even deeper by the helmet's voice projector. An intentional choice on his part, he liked the way it seemed to get people to listen to him a little bit more than they normally did. He wasn't above such little tricks, after all.

Cecilia Fauxmauntain
One and a half weeks prior.
Cecilia pondered how she had gotten into this situation as she listened to feet storming up the stairs behind her. She rather suspected that she was slipping. She had had to take down a guard, which had snowballed into this. Irregardless she held her position, waiting for her target to emerge. As the door behind her slammed open and soldiers charged across the room her target, apparently in communication with them, took the opportunity to dash for their vehicle. If her nerve had been broken by the people behind her, it would have even been a good idea. She fired one clean shot, carving a hole precisely through their head, just as the soldiers used the sound of the shot to find the shelf she was behind. Bullets tore through it as she dove out the window, leaving behind one of her specialized grenades. She fell, counting down in her head. After a second and a half had passed she turned midair and fired her grappling hook, latching onto the edge of the roof and flying up past the window while the people inside were still disoriented. Unfortunately at least one had had some degree of electrical protection, or had just been around the corner, as a bullet nearly clipped her leg on the way up.

She pulled herself over the edge of the roof and unhooked the grapple, looking around her. She was in the middle of an isolated walled town, which she had spend the last few weeks infiltrating to find her target. She had seven minutes to get over the wall before they could activate the turrets. She had ten minutes to get a mile away from the city before they started tracking her movements. She started running, leaping between the rooftops, glad that the town had been constructed on a modular basis, meaning the rooftops were generally close together and of similar heights. She reached the edge of the town with two minutes to spare, but the distance to the wall was too far to jump. So she launched her hook, landing it midway up the wall and activating the gel reserves. After the gel had secreted she recalled the hook, leaving the activator chip behind. A few second passed before it blew, leaving a large hole in the wall, although it was thick enough that at the outer part of the wall it was only a few feet around. With one minute left she swung through the hole in the wall, retracting the hook that she had landed on the top of the wall as she went through. The landing was rough, but her suit absorbed most of the skid over the ground.

Unfortunately the skid also took her well past the hybrid land/water vehicle she had stashed outside the walls. She dashed back as the wall began to come alive with turrets, and the gates began to slowly open. She jumped in and took off, but even as she mentally hit the ten minute mark, she heard one of their aircraft take off behind her and lock onto her trail. She leaned down and kicked on the vehicles higher engines. This wasn't going to be stealthy anymore, now it was going to be a race.

Three Days Prior
When she limped out of the hidden tunnel to the military base, her handler was already waiting in the tiny store room.

They spoke, sounding utterly dispassionate, with a note of annoyance,"You are a week late, and missing an expensive vehicle at that. Report."

Cecilia stared at them for a brief moment, feeling exhaustion deep in her bones. When she spoke her voice was quiet and tired, but retained her usual professionalism, "Mission fully successful. Target eliminated, no secondary or civilian casualties. No chance of survival or resurrection, brain fully fried. Escape did not go quite as planned, and I was tracked for a time. I managed to lose them, but they took out the vehicle and I had to finish the trip on foot. I am down one emp grenade and took severe suit damage particularly to the legs. Medically there is definite muscle strain in both legs, but no direct injuries this time, and still no visual identity confirmation. What's my downtime?"

Her handler spoke again, "None. We need an immediate departure, so grab a spare SCIN and restock.
I'll give you the briefing papers, but you need to get their and rendezvous with you're commanding officer. You will be working with a mixed military and civilian team, on a highly secret mission." They fell silent, and for a brief moment something like shame seemed to cross their face before they spoke again, "Your commanding officer knows your full history. They didn't have the clearance, but they insisted, and due to the nature of the mission command decided to give them the information. They know your personal and personnel history, along with your parent's."

Cecilia listened mostly impassively as her handler spoke, although she flinched slightly when they talked about her history. If one had been paying very close attention they might have noted that her hand twitched towards her knives. It was a slight enough movement that while her handler had stiffened slightly, they let it go. She took the proffered papers and turned wordlessly away to prepare.

The day of departure
Cecilia watched the mission kickoff point through the scope on her rifle. She had arrived a full six hours in advance, and had spent the time carefully inspecting the area. It was mostly quiet up until only a little while before the mission, when a woman she knew to be the captain showed up. After the distinctly unpleasant revelation that her captain would know her full history, she had reached out to a couple of contacts she had made, mostly people she had worked with before on missions that required more than one person, but were under less isolating conditions. She had found out a few things, and some things she didn't strictly want to know, but hadn't found any significant skeletons in her closet. Whether she actually was without them was questionable, but if she wasn't they were well-hidden. As the captain came to a halt and lit a cigarette she scanned the surrounding area again. Seeing nothing out of place she stood up and started towards the rendezvous point.

A little way out she turned off the noise cancelling, arriving just in time to follow the captain in and hear her speech. She left her helmet and suit on, as she usually did. She stood at parade rest as the commanding officer spoke, with her rifle holstered on her back. When the captain made the comment about knowing people's histories Cecilia's lips pulled back slightly but noticeably, and for a brief moment something stirred in her eye's, a bit of old fury. Just as quick as it stirred it faded away and she unbared her teeth. Her professional training took over when the captain called for questions and she spoke, utterly without inflection, "Sergeant Fauxmauntain presenting for general duty." If what the captain had said was true than it was not necessary, but it was protocol, especially when in-suit. She moved past and picked up a folder, skimming through it. There was no new information in it, some due to prior knowledge, and some due to the pre-mission briefing papers she had received. Then again she had above top level security clearance, and even then she had only been briefed because she had missed the initial mission transmission.

Somale was up and at 'em early in the morning as was her usual schedule. As there was a big briefing for the mission she'd been given she'd been through everything in her S.C.I.N.S. several time to make sure everything was as ready and perfect as she could make it. Base wasn't very busy in the morning so she'd taken the liberty of going around and loosening up her muscles with some light exercise. A miles run around and some light practice at the range to make sure her shots weren't going to be off today. Standard stuff to help her relax for the most part although she was a bit worried about the actual nature of the mission she couldn't allow the worry to touch her beforehand. She kept track of the time as she made what efforts she could to keep her body relaxed and ready like a taught and well oiled string. She knew that the mission didn't actually start until later but there was no harm in having her body ready for anything especially considering it was her job to keep everyone on her team safe. That thought pushed her resolve that was already Iron strong into Steel.

After a shower to get rid of the smell of sweat and exertion, Somale donned her S.C.I.N.S with her helmet tucked under her arm and met up with the others at the briefing area which was not terribly far from her own room in the barracks. She had to go through the two guards at the entrance who stopped to ask for her credentials as bland and alert as those who'd stood guard for a long while tend to get. She swiftly showed them her ID and the letters and was allowed access to the restricted area. She didn't say anything about recognizing the two as it seemed unprofessional and wasn't the reason she was here. She needed to keep her eyes on the prize and that was the briefing room and keeping her people safe. Upon entrance she took a swift glance about examining everyone's faces and let herself reside at the very back of the room as the Woman in charge took point and began the briefing. Somale absorbed the information and at the end was satisfied to allow the others ask their questions as she had none currently weighing her mind. It seemed quite straightforward.

This is what I have to work with? Skylark thought to herself with a roll of her eyes, shaking her head with a grin. One of 'em was silent, another snarky when spoken to, one asked about a goddamned dog, one wasn't willing to shoot a firearm, and the others were quiet. Her Second-in-Command was present and accounted for, which Sky appreciated; the woman was prepared and ready to go, which was already a positive in the Cap's book. With a sigh, she reached a hand up to her face and pinched the bridge of her nose, applying pressure to the places beside her eyes before she spoke again to the group that had assembled.

"Whether y'all want to or not, you're gonna have to make some tough choices while we're out there. We've got an entire area of unknown ahead of us. Be prepared for the worst, but hope for the best. There will be no animals on this trip, and if your pet needed taking care of then you should've planned ahead. You were given time. Other than that, suit up and get your asses moving! We leave NOW!" Sky barked out the last part of her orders, putting the helmet of her S.C.I.N. suit on her head before she turned and headed to the hatch formed into the wall that separated the Norm Region from the Cryo Region. The helmet hissed and clicked as she stepped through the opening, greeted by slight winds of ice and snow, as well as an almost dim landscape ahead.

"All of your S.C.I.N.S. include built in lights and transmitters, allowing us to speak with one another over any distance, but not through every material, so stick together and move quick, as well as listen to what I say. We've got twelve hours ahead of us." With a grin the woman made her move and marched into the wintry realm; the only things visible from their vantage point were abandoned buildings made out of ice and half-assed sculptures created by people who had planned on making the Cryo Region more hospitable at this run-down portion of the Earth. However that didn't last very long due to the presence of the insects.

"Well, through the ghost town we'll go." Sky spoke with a tinge of sarcasm, marching through the rugged patches of ice and snow, her boots preventing her from having any sudden falls. This was going to be a blast.
