Flight to Your Heart (SnowFeather x Dethbycoffee)

(I'll let you start, maybe with him escaping the hunters and heading towards the mountains, catching her scent?)

(Alright, sorry about that. Husband's weekend is Mon-Tues, so sometimes it's hard to post sunday afternoon to wednesday morning. But I'm back!!)

Shanx hissed softly as he raced through the streets of the city he had called home for some time. Someone had found out what he was, and now there was the equivalent of a linch mob chasing after him. He glanced over his shoulder, he had lost the leaders of the pack, but this was no time to kick back and relax now. He pressed forward, dodging around animals, and trash. Ducking under clothes lines between the buildings, and through alleyways. He had to get out of the narrow passages and somewhere he could shift. He had to stretch his wings so he could race into the clouds, and away from those who hunted him. He ran hard, the sound of his feet pounding the hard dirt of the alley deafened his ears, his blood racing through his veins, and heart beating rapidly in his chest. If he remembered the layout right, he should be nearing the edge of the close knit homes and would be getting to open air soon.

Just as he thought, he broke from the crowd of homes, and finally found open space. He silently thanked who ever was watching over him as he took shape and became a large black dragon. He stroked his powerful wings downward as soon as he was able, lifting himself into the air as the last portions of his body became dragon. Screams and bellows could be heard below, but he didn't care. He was focused on escaping, and doing so quick enough, they wouldn't be able to track him. He remained low, hoping that if he clung to the treetops, it'd be hard for them to keep sight on him. Unfortunately, that also opened him up to attack as a large ballista arrow grazed his flank, and he roared in pain. He pulled his wings closer to his body so that he shot forward, speeding along and away from danger.

He flew like that for ages it seemed, until leagues were between himself and his old home. He finally pulled up, slowing his pace, and lifted higher into the air. His wings were tired, but not so much that he needed to land and rest, and his flank hurt like nothing he had ever felt. He twisted his long neck for just a moment to peer at the wound, and winced. At least the blood had caked over and he wasn't dripping any longer. He righted himself, and looked ahead, seeing mountains poking into the sky. That looked like a great place to hide. He shifted his flight path, and began heading straight for the mountains in the distance, all the while rising in altitude until the clouds hid his body from any prying human eyes below.

(It's alright!)

On top of one of the cliffs laid a white, scaled figure. The figure's scales shone in the sunlight, and it's sides rose and lowered with each breath it took. It had large wings and a long, beautiful tail. It was a dragon, a female dragon. Her name, is Venice. Venice breathed calmly, her eyes closed. She heard the soft scuffling of claws against the rocks and smiled to herself.

There were muffled voices, and the sound of arguing, giggles. Soon, two figured landed on her side. They growled playfully as they attacked the larger dragon. They were baby dragons. Venice opened her eyes, glowing brightly. She watched as they tried to roll her over, screeching. "Boys?" She asked with a smirk.

The two baby dragons looked up in surprise and Venice rumbled in amusement. "We're sorry, Venice.. We were bored.." One of them apologized after she had sat up. Venice only smiled. She dismissed them with a twitch of her ears, and they ran off, spreading their wings as they giggled. They took to the sky, that is if three feet above the ground counts as flying. More like, hovering. She didn't blame them, they were only three weeks old.

Shanx drew closer to the mountain, relief flooding him as he searched for a place to land and rest. His sides heaved with heavy breaths, his muscles shaking and trembling as he forced himself to continue on. He pushed himself to make it to the mountain before even considering to look for a place to land. He'd be able to hide easily in the rocky slopes of the mountains, even as his obsidian scales shimmered and the light of the sun danced across his body. He angled downward, having finally reached the mountains when a shimmering light caught his eye. There, in the distance, was what appeared to be another dragon. A white dragon. He was apprehensive at first, but then, as it sunk in that he possibly wasn't going to have to be alone, his heart lifted. He turned himself, so that he could fly a little closer. As the distance closed between him and the other dragon, witnessing the babies that pounced and tried to play, he caught her scent. It hit his nostrils like slap to the face, and they flared wide to take in the irresistible scent.

So it was a female that laid there in the sunlight. He hadn't ever met a female of his kind before. The thought then also made him pause, wondering if the infant dragons he had spotted were hers or not. Which lead him to wonder if there were more dragons than just her. Caught up in his thoughts, he hadn't noticed how close he had gotten to the ground, and he landed, albeit clumsily. He howled in pain as his weight came down on his hindquarters, his roar ripping through the air as he tried to shift his body to relieve some of the pain. No. I need to stay a dragon so that there is no mistake on what I am. He told himself mentally, and leaned his weight to his other side, whimpering softly as his left hind leg throbbed in pain, and fresh blood seeped from the caked over wound.

Venice heard the distance flap of powerful wings, and the sound of heavy breathing. She tensed and twitched her ears, listening more closely. Her eyes glowed brightly and her scales slowly realigned themselves, a skill she was taught by The Ancients. She was lucky to have them, for she had learned many helpful tricks to help her survive easily.

Venice blinked as she caught a scent. Dragon, incoming. She heard a roar, and the ground trembled as she heard the beast land. The sight if black scales and the powerful structure worried her. An invaded? A rival? Who knew these days? She got up and lashed her tail. Her eyes burned and she screeched, her wings just barely lifted off her sides, still lowered. He was on her territory, and she wasn't very happy.

Shanx grunted, and looked over at the white creature, worry clear in his eyes at her hostile reaction to his presence. "I mean no harm." he said quickly to the other dragon, his voice strained with pain. He glanced from her, and to his side, trying to take a step back from her, and hiss of pain slipped from his long black snout. He pressed his wings flat to his sides, and lowered himself to the ground, trying to make himself small, in a sense. He wasn't sure how much he should say of where he had come from, and so he remained silent, and looked at the white dragon's feet. "I am injured." he said simply, his weight still leaned to the right to keep his left leg in as little strain as possible.

Venice glared at the dragon. At his voice, she narrowed her eyes. She assumed right, it was a male. She lowered her wings to her side and her eyes softened. She screeched, and the two baby dragons came back. They looked at the black dragon with wide eyes, their own scales blue and green. "Go back to your mother, now," she whispered, as they nuzzled her snout. She smiled, then nudged them, and they were off. Venice turned to the male and took a confident step forward. "What happened? Hunters?" She asked, her voice echoing.

Shanx's whole body shook slightly, a shiver running from head to tail and he finally lifted his gaze to look at the white dragon. "If you could call them that." he said heavily. "I had been in peaceful hiding until I was discovered. I was chased from my home, and forced to push myself to limits I knew not that I had." he explained, finally unable to hold himself up any longer and letting his large, but slim body lay on the ground. His sides still heaved with heavy breath as he tried desperately to feed his aching muscles oxygen, laying mostly to his right so that his left hind leg could stretch and not constrict the wound. His yellow-gold eyes studying the female. "I've not met others of my kind. I apologize if I startled you." he said, a yawn escaping his muzzle. A soft grumble rumbled in his chest as if groaning from the aching pain that seemed to cover his entire length.

Venice studied him carefully, not speaking. She twitched her ears and blinked, her blue eyes glowing. She started walking around him, her long tail trailing behind her graciously. She gave off the impression of perfection, which was the word to describe her best. Venice sniffed his scales and took a step back. She continued to circle him, her eyes glowing softly. She sat down in front of him, tilting her head.

Shanx watched as she circled him, sniffing at his scales, and then returned to his front and sitting. He took a deep breath, and let it out slowly, unsure of what to do honestly in this situation. He shifted, and moved his head, his long neck bending easily, so that he could examine his own wound, scraping the mess of caked blood and dirt from his wound so that he might see the extent of the damage. Once cleared, he looked at his wound, happy to see that it wasn't as bad as it honestly felt. He licked over the wound, and then rolled, allowing fresh dirt to mix with the slight ooze of blood and saliva to create a kind of bandage. He then rolled back over to be comfortable, and gazed at the white dragon. "I am Shanx." he said, taking another deep breath as his breathing began to calm and he was able to relax a little.

By the time he looked back at her, she had laid down, her eyes closed. She twitched her ears and a rumble escaped her throat. "And I am none of your business," she replied confidently. Venice had no interest in bonding, no matter if he was male or female.

Shanx peered at her, the response a slight sting to his pride, but he brushed it off. Of course she would be wary of him. Even he was wary of strangers, and it was beyond him to assume he'd be welcome with open wings here. He was unknown to her, and she to him, but from the looks of it, she had more to protect than just her own scales. Curiosity picked at him to ask her questions, but if simply giving his own name without even asking hers opted for such a cold response, he was certain he wouldn't be given more than the same treatment if he asked any others. He heaved a sigh, curling his head and tail around his body. This would be simpler to shift down and go try to find another human village that doesn't know me. Yet, I can't risk shifting with this injury in case it is worse on my two legged form. And this dragon sure isn't helpful. He thought to himself, another sigh escaping him. He felt the beginnings of hungry prick his stomach, but he was in no condition to hunt. At least it wasn't a feeling he was unaccustomed to. He let his eyes close, though his other senses remained alert to the female close to him. He needed rest. He was so tired from the run and flight for his life.

Venice sat up and looked down at hi.. "Hey, stay awake," she told him, nudging his head with her snout. Sure, she didn't know him, but she was no stranger to dragons. She wasn't shy either.

Shanx opened his eyes, though they were bleary from exhaustion. He blinked a few times to clear them, and shifted, pulling his head from where he had curled to peer at her. "I've strained my whole body flying for my life. Can I not rest?" he asked tiredly.

Venice growled. "If you fall asleep, Tirek will kill you," she replied. She took a step back. "Everything I do, is to help," she simply said. Her eyes showed some of her hurt, but she didn't show it.

Shanx nodded slowly, "Alright. I'm sorry. I'm just exhausted." he said softly, shifting his body to he wasn't as comfortable to help keep himself awake. "Who is Tirek?" he asked curiously, though he didn't expect an answer. He sighed, and looked around at his surroundings.

"That, would be me.." A deep voice boomed. A huge dragon, ten times their sizes, stood at the edge of the cliff. He had red eyes that burned, and Venice bowed, closing her eyes. "What did I tell you, Venice.. No strangers may pass the border.." He said softly to Venice, who opened her eyes. "Wasn't my fault that he practically fell from the sky." She muttered as she sat up.

Shanx blinked, and followed what the white dragon did, bowing to the huge dragon. He thought to respond, but from he remembered from his parents, it was best to speak only when spoken to if you cross into another's territory. It really hadn't been her fault, but it wasn't his place to correct anyone.

Tirek chuckled, his voice loud. "Go on, dragon. You must be eager to speak," he said, flicking his tail. He motioned for Venice to come and she spread her wings. She shot up and flew over to his side, standing in between his forelegs, sitting down. He nuzzled her head with his snout and she smiled. "Stop it, dad, I'm tired," she muttered.

Shanx looked up at the large dragon, though he remained mostly on the ground in favor of his injury. "There is more than I may have time for to ask, sir." He replied hesitantly, peering between him and the Venice. "I have not see others like me since my parents had been killed." He explained, thinking it sounded odd that he would have so many questions. He curled his tail about his feet, "And I know very little about customs between dragons, so I hope I do not offend unknowingly." He added, sighing slightly. He felt like a child again, and it wasn't quite a welcoming feeling since he was considered an adult in the eyes of humans when he walked among them.

Tirek smiled. "Do not worry, young one. Go on," he replied. Venice laid down with her head on her paws, watching the male closely. Something was off about him, she just knew it. She had to find out.

Shanx swallowed and looked up at the dragon, nodding his head. "It's difficult to decide where to start." He said with a slightly rumbling chuckle in his chest. He looked to the white dragon, but then focused on the larger male. "How is it you have lived here with no issue with humans?" He asked curiously, "And how is it there are no stories of dragons in these mountains?" He added, stopping himself as he realized he was asking several in a row without relent.

Tirek chuckled. "Well, we have our tricks," was all he said. He looked down at Venice and she groaned. He growled and she growled back, but she got up. She bounded over to Shanx. "He wants to talk to you, alone," she said to him, rolling her eyes. she then turned and spread her wings, flying off.

Shanx nodded at the white female, though he kept his eyes on Tirek. He remained quiet, though he was apprehensive about being alone with the larger male especially since he had been injured.
