SOMEWHERE DEEP IN THE ATMOSPHERE,

among the spindled candy floss clouds and patched expanses of dawn and dusk, belonged a girl created from the infinite abyss of night and morning sky; nova, with flowing tresses of neptune’s stardust emanating with beguiling illumination, and skin impregnated with the silver imprints of blazing moonbeams, stippled with interstellar stones of moon, ice cold to the touch.

nova swept across each plain of the earth, spreading her energy into lights of the north and rays of sun and moon that tear and rip through the darkness, like pen to paper. nova had been all alone, until she came across a peculiar boy—whose hands were buried under the stems of pastel chrysanthemums and whose fingers were smeared with the lavish nectar of azure tulips and dampened soil.

nova was yet to know his name, but, she had already fallen in love with his smile. ​

SOMEWHERE AMONG THE EARTH,

underneath the hollows of thorned roses and tree-tops of rockmelon air, a boy named geo sang the songs of the earth, with his metallic soil-like curls entangled around the base of his neck and ripe skin burning against each fluttering touch of sun that skimmed across his frame. his eyes, as lush and green as the endless fields around him, buzzing and humming with life and the floral aromas of peony breezes. geo gazed at the stars every evening, and wondered if they ever gazed back.

geo saw her. the girl pirouetting in the clouds and melancholy darkness. he was entranced and continued to watch the girl prance from star to star while collecting their energies and transforming them into a spectrum of pastel pigmentations that ran through the canvas sky. beautiful, he thought.

and every night after that, geo continued to watch the star girl, and wished that he could be the stars that the girl embraced so deeply.​

NOVA GAZED DOWN AT HIM,

wishing to knot her fingers through the ringlets of his orange locks and kiss the honeysuckle on his lips of which he kissed daily. nova’s constellatory eyes twinkled as she watched the wintery skinned god weave his way through the dense daffodil and chrysanthemum fields. he spun, and they billowed beneath the folds of his petal sewn cloak as his mellifluous laughter rang in nova’s ear as the best sound she’d ever heard; better than the sound of planets obliterating into a shimmering blanket of celestial dusted nebulae. nova wished to reach out, yet the boy faded from her grasp and slipped from the very tips of her fingers. and, to nova, that was the very worst agony of all.

no matter the effort, nova decided that she would make sure the boy with cyprus leaves intertwined in his hair and earth embedded in his nails, would know just how much nova was, tragically, in love with him. ​

HE TRIED AGAIN AND AGAIN,

but geo only managed to scratch the cosmic surface and carve his fingernails into it, freeing tremendous angst pin-prick against his spine. it was no use. the girl in the clouds was too far from his reach. geo sighed with a longing to run his calloused palms down the girl’s surfaces of sparkling milky-way skin that gleamed with patented asterism. he looked back up into the stars and watched them pulse with gaiety. give me a sign that you’re here, please.

hearing geo’s call, the stars fell, and realigned in a melting motion to form the starry-eyed girl’s name.

nova, geo hummed to himself, how beautiful you are.

the lilac lisianthuses trembled at geo’s feet then burgeoned like thick vines to puncture and interweave their way through the crevices and holes in the earth, forming the word that would lead to the ending of the world itself.
