Fire Emblem: Twisting Horizons, Lore

Welcome to the Lore page! I'll be detailing all the info on the nations involved from their history to where they are today and what led to the war that kickstarts our adventure!

Before we do though, a bit of information about the races!

Beorc

Beorc are humans. Plain and simple. And they occupy the nations of Zaerma, Gurein, and Lenmea.

Laguz, Taguel, Wolfskin, and Kitsune

The non-Beorc races of the Laguz, Taguel, Wolfskin, and Kitsune largely reside in the nations of Helmsor and Centillos.

Centillos is home to the Bird-tribe Laguz who build their civilization in the mountain peaks of their homeland. Helmsor is the home of the Beast-tribe Laguz, Taguel, and Wolfskin.

These two territories are quite small compared to their Beorc counterparts. And this is due to the racial tensions and bias which run deep within Beorc history. The non-Beorc have been slowly expanding their territory and influence, and are pushing to further expand their borders and share them with the Beorc if possible. However, progress is slow and many of the non-Beorc are still deeply mistrusting of Beorc and would rather find a way to continue living in the territory they have rather than worry about intermixing with the hateful humans who've persecuted them for so long.

Dragons and Manaketes

The Dragon Laguz and Manakete races occupy very secretive cities built into the central mountains of Ouriim. Though their land falls within the known Beorc territories of Zaerma and Lenmea, they are independent and have no allegiance to the Beorc who have claimed their homes as part of their territory. They are content to live in permanent neutrality and leave the Beorc and other more war-inclined non-Beorc races to their ways.

The continent: Ouriim.

Helmsor, Centillos, Gurein, Lenmea, Zaerma.

The focal nation is Zaerma, which will be invaded and conquered by Gurein.

But first, some history...

The Calm Before The Storm

Zaerma's history has been heavy rooted in conflict. The Monarchy of old sought war and to conquer all of Ouriim. And they almost succeeded.

200 years ago they had conquered 90% of the main body of Ouriim before their extensive military campaigns became too expensive and spread out to properly maintain. Their borders were pushed back, and peace was finally established 180 years ago which resulted in the current borders as seen on the world map above.

For those 180 years, peace has reigned. However, it has been uneasy.

The remnants of racial bias between the Beorc and Laguz, Taguel, and Wolfskin still runs deep. Especially in the nation of Gurein which views the non-Beorc as "Seich Oute," or "Worthless Beast." Of the five nations, Lenmea has been the most openly accepting of the non-Beorc races and has done its best to establish strong friendly relations both politically and socially. So much so that it's now illegal to openly speak in a derogatory fashion to a non-Beorc, and is punishable by up to two years in prison.

Due to the economic strife of the old wars, Zaerma has spent much of its time up until recently attempting to rebuild. Progress was slow up until the most recent Monarchy led by King Rhamos Uthila Zaerma, and his Queen Daea Liimu Zaerma. With their economic savvy and their total overhaul of the reconstruction efforts, Zaerma has begun to prosper like never before. New investments in the farmers and ranchers across the nation have helped both the food and cattle industries to explode into aplenty. New efforts to replant every tree cut down to maintain their forests for lumber. New irrigation for both farmland and local water supplies from the nearby mountains and primitive earth-based filtration for ocean water has helped them maintain a healthy water supply and has resulted in the rejuvenation of the land which has become more fertile, which further helps their crop growth and cattle raising efforts.

Truly, few have done more for Zaerma than King Rhamos and Queen Daea. For their tireless efforts they are revered by a majority of the populace as the saviors of the nation. Prior to their overhaul of the reconstruction effort, things were looking grim due to progress moving at a snail's pace. They had predicted another 200 years of effort before reaching a point of stabilization. But it took King Rhamos and Queen Daea only 14 years to reach this point.

However...

The War

King Faer Von Gurein, direct descendent of King Faer Sei Gurein who was assassinated shortly before the peace talks 180 years ago, has never forgiven the sins of the past and has been patiently employing social and political misdirection to fuel a hatred of Zaerma within his people. It's taken 20 years to fully take root. But over 87% of the populace in Gurein now believes that Zaerma is planning an invasion of Gurein and that their sworn duty is to defend their homeland from the aggressors who would see the wars of old reignited to conquer and erase them from history.

Though the nation's borders are smaller, Gurein boasts a higher population than Zaerma. And King Fae Von Gurein is poised to unleash his massive armies upon his enemy for the sake of his nation's integrity and continued legacy. He will not let his people be erased...

At least, that's what he tells them.

Legends speak of an ancient relic known as the Fire Emblem.

This relic supposedly grants its user infinite power. And that's the true motivation of Faer Von Gurein. His family lineage has always been obsessed with power. And he is no different. His goal is to accomplish what Zaerma never did and conquer all of Ouriim with the Fire Emblem's power. By doing so he will establish himself as the Omni King, and once he's crushed the will to resist from the remaining populace of Beorc and non-Beorc alike he will turn his sights overseas and continue to expand his rule and influence as far across the world as possible before his time is done. To that end he is grooming his son, Leon Su Gurein, to continue his legacy when he is gone.

With the same bloodlust and drive to conquer as his father, Leon is the leader of Gurein's military forces and will spearhead the invasion of Zaerma with his ultimate goal being to slay King Rhamos and Queen Daea to break the spirit of their capitol and cement their hold over the nation.

In order to survive the invasion and begin the reclamation efforts, our characters must flee to Lenmea to regroup and begin building an alliance with the non-Beorc tribes as we'll need their strength to help retake our homeland (or, if you're a Beorc from Zaerma, then it's your homeland). Reaching out to the Beast Tribes will be a simple matter as
