Fire Emblem: Fates Collide

Scrin

The Abyssal Aubade
In the war between Hoshido and Nohr, there are many mercenary groups are fighting for the two sides, in search of gold and glory. You are one such mercenary. This is your tale.

Lelei peeked her head out from behind the tree she was hiding behind. She saw a group of bandits camping near a road, no doubt waiting to rob whoever came by. She had been hired by one of the princesses of Hoshido to locate bandits and report their positions to the royalty, but what fun is that? Lelei would much prefer to rob the robbers, or even take the entire group down, if she could. She stalked her way towards the camp, using her dark green cloak and hood to camouflage into the tall grass she was standing in. "Even with the extra fun, this will still be far too easy." Lelei thought to herself.

Ruin walked down the path that he heard the bandits were hiding on, today he was going to collect the bounty on their heads and finally get a good room at the inn, though it was taking forever to find them, maybe they were just not being bandity today. "God this is so annoying, what does it take to get Robbed by bandits?!" Walking another forty steps he noticed that there were bandits behind some near by trees, so he unsheathed his sword slowly and prepared for them to come running out at him 'look I finally found these hiding pricks.'

As she moved in on the camp, the bandits looked up and headed towards the road as a figure moved down the road towards them. This gave Lelei an excellent opportunity to slip in and steal quite a bit of food that she slipped into the bag on her back under the cloak. Looking up at the bandits who were completely unaware of her presence as they were distracted by the travelling fighter, Lelei scowled. "Hey, that jerk is stealing all my fun! I'll fix that guy, AND those bandits!" Lelei then moved towards the bandits and the traveller, drawing two of her ruby-gripped steel knives.

Ruin felt the bandit's animosity as they all started charging at him, side-stepping a wild attack he cut one down with one clean blow, then he parried another with his sword, followed quickly by a kick in the leg to drop the bandit before finishing him off, looking around at the other Bandits he counted at least ten more 'Well, at least I'll have fun here, and get paid to do it.' Another two came running at him, only having time to dodge one correctly he got a slice on his arm, luckily it only scratched him, "Come on, only Two on ones? Are you guys wanting to die?" He quickly retorted as he cut those two down with clean efficiency.

Once Lelei drew close to the fight, she went from sneaking to a sprint. Incredibly quick, but still nearly silent, she stabbed one bandit in the back with both of her knives, before throwing them both into the skulls of the next two nearest bandits. She rushed forwards and pulled these two knives out, as a couple of the last few bandits finally took notice of her. "It's about time you big oafs noticed me. Now come on, big guys. Let's have some fun!" Lelei twirled her knives around in her hands before finishing with them both in reverse grip, then she motioned with her hands for them to come get her.

Ruin wasn't surprised another person was after the bounty on these bandits' heads, so he didn't react the same way the bandit's did, so he charged into another bandit while they were surprised and quickly killed him, leaving his sword in the man he pulled out hand axes and threw them into two more of the remaining Bandits. "I wasn't really expecting anyone else to show up." he said jokingly, not worried about the last of the bandits.

Lelei dashed forward, with the last 3 bandits caught between her and the stranger as they were too confused by the chaos to really offer her any resistance. She twirled between the three of them, slashing and hacking them down in a beautiful spinning dance of her knives, her cloak twirling around her as she moved, allowing the stranger to see what was under her cloak. When Lelei finally came to a halt, she was facing away from the stranger, her hood over her head and the cloak fell back to its original position, covering her entire body, so that the stranger could see nothing but a cloaked and hooded figure. She pulled two more knives from their sheaths so that she now held 4 of them. "Anyone else to show up? I was already here, you jerk, and you ruined my playtime!" Lelei spun the face the stranger, hurling two of her knives at him, before rushing towards him with the other two knives in hand.

Ruin noticed knives and various goods hidden in the woman's cloak, 'quite the little pack rat isn't she, and ruined her playtime did I? I was already killing them when she showed up' seeing the knives come at him he threw two hand axes at them, deflecting them, then pulled his sword out of the dead bandit to parry the knives in her hands, "You are the one who interrupted my killing, thank you very much." he used his strength to push her back and go for a quick slice.

"Aww... Interrupted your killing, did I? And pray tell, how am I supposed to practice my sneaking and backstabbing when everyone is already dead, Mister Killjoy?" Lelei spoke in a really patronizing voice. The stranger pushed her back with his blade and slashed at her, an attack that was laughably slow by Lelei's standards. As she backflipped over the blade, Lelei snagged the two knives the stranger deflected off the ground, slipping them back in the sheath. Back to only having one knife in each hand, Lelei rush forward once more, but slid as she approached the stranger, sliding between his legs and rolling back to her feet behind the man, slashing once more at his exposed back.

Ruin smirked "Mister killjoy? I'm the one who had the most fun killing them!" he watched as she easily dodged his blow and took her weapons off the ground, then did a technique to get behind him rather quickly. Feeling her killing intent he dashed forward and spun around. "Fast little devil aren't you?" he said as he pulled out another hand axe and threw it, 'Out of those now, shes a dangerous one that's for sure.' Getting his sword ready for her next move he leaned closer to the ground, prepared to counter another quick movement.

The stranger spun away from her backstab, swinging around to face her again. Swiftly dodging the shuriken, Lelei threw a spin-kick towards the stranger's weapon, but that was when the stanger knelt down to prepare for her attack. This meant that her kick went from being aimed at his blade to being aimed right at his head. Deciding this was just as good, Lelei finished her roundhouse kick right across his jaw, knocking him back somewhat, though doing very little actual damage. Lelei smiled "innocently" at his remark about her speed. "That's right, Mister Killjoy, I am far faster than you could ever dream of being." Lelei said as she prepared her knives for another attack on the man.

Ruin felt her kick, and moved back an inch due to the impact, however the kick was rather weak. Watching her land and prepare another attack he simply moved forward as she readied her attack and fainted an attack from the sword toward her neck, watching her go for another dodge he kicked her side from the other direction, calmly he stated "That you are, you fight rather well too, were you after their bounty, or just after a fight?" Backing away from her he stood there watching her recover just as easily as he did. "I would like it if you would stop calling me "Mister Killjoy", I'm called Ruin."

The stranger's (or Ruin, as he claims it to be) kick threw Lelei to the ground several feet away. Rolling to her feet, she scowled once more at Ruin. How could a slow, clumsy, run-of-the-mill fighter managed to land a kick on her? A simple and obvious tactic like that feigned sword strike should have been easily noticed and deflected by a skilled thief like herself. Now Lelei was angry. She spun in a complete circle, pulled her specialized poison knives from her rear sheaths and hurled them at the fighter, then rushed him as quickly as her incredible speed would allow, yelling "...and my name.... IS NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS!"

'Super flashy, angry, sneaky, knives: threat, Charging, foolish, dangerous.' Ruin's brain processed the information quickly as it was trained in his childhood and later in the Nohrian army to do. Side one of the knives and using his sword to barely deflect the other in time, 'she's a real threat, and highly hostile. I need to either calm her somehow, retreat, or incapacitate. the last might result in my death though.... shit.' As she made it to him he barely had enough time to move back, "Well, none of your fucking business, I'm not trying to sound like an ass, but could you please stop attempting to kill me, I am only here for their bounty so I can eat for the next week."

"aaaaaAAAAAAGGGHHH!!!" Lelei roared as she approached the backstepping soldier. When she got within knife range, Lelei blinked, disappearing from in front of Ruin completely and reappearing behind him. Whirling around, she reached over his shoulder and placed her knives to his throat, holding them tight against his skin. "Tell me something, Mr. Mercenary. Is such a bounty worth your life?"

Ruin watched the woman disappear 'trick, stealth kill: Accept' Feeling the blades come to his throat he smirked, she didn't outright kill him, he didn't make the mistake he thought he did. "My job is always worth more then my life. Do you think that anyone would have stayed and fought someone like you unless they thought it was worth their life?" Ruin laughed a little. "Right now I'm not even scared for my life. If someone as agile as you wanted someone moving as slow as I have been dead, they would have already done so." 'Truly dangerous, but she does have a heart, surprising but good.'

Lelei muttered something under her breath, then pulled the knives from Ruin's throat, then returned the knives to the sheaths, then went and retrieved her poisoned knives, sticking them into their sheaths as well. With this, she lowered her cloak's hood before slipping her arms under the cloak, so the only exposed part of her body was her head. Then she turned to Ruin. "So, who's offering bounties on the bandits M'lady offered me pay to locate and/or take out? I find it hard to believe a Nohrian like yourself would be doing bounties for the Hoshidan Princess, nor is it easy to believe that Nohr is placing bounties on bandits plaguing Hoshido in a time of war."

Ruin laughed and sheathed his sword and retrieved his axes, "A local farming village put a bounty on their heads." Lying, as if he told her princess Sakura had hired him she would probably assault him again. "and I don't work for Nohr, atleast not anymore, I've been without a true leige or allegiance for three years now." After all of his weapons were put away he looked at her "I'm not going to ask who you work for, or anything like that, but would you mind telling me your name?" He said as he smiled, happy to no longer be her enemy for the moment.

Having suddenly regained her playful spirit after the fight, Lelei blinked across the 10 feet between her and Ruin hoping to surprise/startle him, placing herself right up in his face, smiling like an excited child. She offered a handshake to him. "Lelei Asada! Legendary Hoshidan thief! Princess Hinoka's most skilled mercenary bounty hunter! You need something stolen, spied on, or killed silently? You need Lelei!"

Ruin was only slightly surprised by Lelei's sudden burst of playfulness, he had seen a lot over his short years. He took her hand and shook it, and smiled, a sign of acceptance as it were. "Nice to meet you Lelei Asada, I'm Ruin Luna. A travel worn battle-hardened Swordsman. I'm also someone who is used to things like these." He said rather calmly. 'She's a bit wild, but she seems interesting to say the least.' Remembering why he was here in the first place he walked over to a nearby bandit he cut off the insignia on it's outfit, then proceeded to do the same to each other bandit, then gave the ones from those Lelei killed to her "Can't say you did something without some evidence can you?" Turning around he started to walk off. "Maybe our paths will cross again Legendary thief."

Lelei ran to catch up with Ruin, something very easy for her given how fast she is. "Wait up, Mr. Swordman! I don't really need to turn these in right now, I'm pretty weathy anyway, so the money isn't a big deal. I have steel knives with ruby-crafted grips, for heaven's sake! Plus, an unskilled swordsman like yourself needs the protection of a master thief like me!" Lelei twirled her knives in her hands. "Plus, if we run into a chest that is locked, I can get that thing open like the lock was never even there!"

Ruin shook his head 'go easy for one fight, and instantly get called unskilled, and now she wants to come with me..... what did I do to deserve this.' Walking forward he sighed, no point arguing though, Lelei would probably just follow him whether he told her no or not. After traveling along the road for an hour or two he sighed again "I don't mind that you travel with me for awhile, but don't get too close." He said aloud, hoping it was to nothing 'I need to go give these insignias to the princess, get paid, then go rest at a small village for a few days.......' Realizing Lelei was still following him he turned to look at her "Seriously, how long do you plan on following me. Do you have nothing better to do?"

"Hmm.... Anything better to do...?" Lelei thought for a minute or so. "...Nope!" She laughed, before continuing to follow him. "Why? Do you not want me around, Mr. Seriousface?"

Ruin shook his head, turned around and started heading for the palace. "I'm not really one for company, but I doubt I'm going to be able to stop you from following me." There were perks to traveling in a group, but also risks, Lelei admitted to being a "legendary thief" and it wouldn't be that hard for her to just take his gear and leave in the middle of the night, but she did have a heart, and was willing to take her blades away from his throat. 'Worst comes to worst I'll just have to start over again. Besides, she is interesting, and has a heart.' "Come along if you're going to little one, I guess you'll see who my actual employer is."
