- Warrior
- A specialist in heavy weapons and armor who can withstand punishment.
- Thief
- A high evasion/accuracy finesse fighter with limited weapon and armor selection, but greater agility and luck (ability to escape from combat).
- White Mage
- A specialist in White Magic. Not a good fighter, but can use hammers for physical attacks and focuses on supporting the team with healing and enhancing spells.
- Black Mage
- A specialist in Black Magic, but is physically frail.
- Red Mage
- A jack-of-all-trades, able to use most but not all of White and Black Magic, and fights similar to, but not quite as well as, the Fighter.

- Knight
- Knights are mighty warriors who are experts in close-range combat. They are dependable allies who can defend themselves, as well as shield fellow party members during harsh ordeals.
- Monk
- Monks are highly proficient in the martial arts. Although they are only able to equip claws and knuckles, they are highly adept at using their bare hands in combat.
- Dark Knight
- They are trained to harness the negative energies that flow throughout the world. The dark blades they wield are effective against monsters that divide and multiply. The Dark Knight can cast White Magic similar to a Paladin.

- Ranger
- Rangers are highly skilled in the way of archery, but can be expensive considering the need to purchase arrows. With a bow in hand and arrows readied, rangers can deal the same amount of damage from either the front line or the rear line. They can also wield boomerangs.
- Dragoon
- Dragoons wield spears in battle and are highly skilled against aerial foes. They are renowned for their ability to launch deadly attacks from above.
- Ninja
- Ninjas can deal massive damage by throwing weapons and specialized projectiles at the enemy.

- Devout
- Devouts can cast all White Magic spells. They also possess higher MP for high-level White Magic. Devout is considered to be a powered-up version of the White Mage
- Bard
- Bards use their Sing ability to attack the enemy or, support their allies.
- Scholar
- Using their analytical prowess, scholars analyze an enemy's HP and any existing weakness and use the mystical know-how of ancient tomes to damage their opponents. Their extensive knowledge allows them to double the effects of items they use.

- Black Mage
- Magus
- A Magus can cast all Black Magic spells. They also possess higher MP for high-level Black Magic. The Magus can be considered a powered-up version of the Black Mage.
- Geomancer
- Geomancers attack by tuning in to their natural surroundings and drawing out the latent powers around them. A Geomancer is like a Mage who can unleash powerful "magic" attacks with no MP cost. The attack power increases with the job level.

- Red Mage
- Sage
- Sages are adept mages who have mastered all levels of Black, White, and Summon magic. While they have numerous techniques at their disposal, their MP is limited compared to more specialized spellcasters. The Sage is considered a powered-up version of the Red Mage job, but it lacks the physical offense signature of a Red Mage in exchange for focusing on magical arts.
- Evoker
- Evokers can summon powerful beings into battle. Each possesses a direct attack (Black) and an indirect effect (White), triggered randomly at the time of summoning.
