"You have let your eyes betray your heart...."
Welcome to my Final Fantasy-esque thread. I say "esque" because besides FFXII, I don't want to play with any of the canon characters, as I'm much more interested in playing in the world itself, and with the lore created by that world. I may be convinced, but you'd have to have a truly compelling argument.
I am familiar with: FF4, FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10, FF10-2, FF12, FF13, FFTactics, F2F Spirits Within, Advent Children, Dirge if Cerberus, and Crisis Core.
So please have a look at these ideas and thoughts and if they interest you, let me know. Also, please read my rules, there is a code in there!
1. Don't God-Mod. In other words, don't make my character speak, don't make my character, don't make my character take damage, and don't control my character. If you want something to go a certain way for plot purposes, just PM me and ask. Usually, I accept "god-modding" during travel and the like. It is usually acceptable to assume movement if a character is already committed to the journey.
2. Please be able to play both genders, and play multiple roles. Your main character(s) may be just male or just female, but I expect all the side characters and NPCs to have life and flavor, too.
3. On the note of characters: I will always play one female character. So, be aware of that. With that said, I usually also always play one male character, and I do MxM, MxF, and FxF pairings, though I prefer MxF.
4. I only RP on threads, so no PM rps with me. So that I know you’ve read the rules this far, please tell me about your favorite food!
5. Please be able to write more than a couple of sentences as responses to me. I have tried to do “simple” RPs, but I end up not feeling motivated to respond or continue the RP. I will need you to be able to write a paragraph or two, each post, at least.
6. PM if you are interested. The only reason for you not to PM me is if you cannot do so due to the fact you haven't reached 24 hours/10 posts.
Guidelines:
1. I do not like to be hassled for posts. Especially if I have already posted that day or the day before. Do not bother me for posts until at least two days have passed. Otherwise, I will start to resent our RP and lose interest in it.
2. I enjoy OOC talk, however I will not respond to "hi" or "-poke-" or equivalents. Have substance to the chatter, even if it just asking "How are you?".
3. Do not bump our thread if I have not posted. I will not post out of spite. I have a problem with this, I acknowledge it, I'm not fixing it.
4. On that matter, please keep OOC to PMs and not on our IC thread. IC is for posting. If you have a question, concern, or comment, just shoot me a PM.
5. In general, I do not enjoy immediate romances or "slice-of-life" RPs, so do not come to me expecting I'll do either. I may make rare exceptions.
The story of FFXII has always intrigued me, and I would either like to retell it with OCs involved, and on the Solidor side, or to play a story similar that involves the theme of free will and the fate of mankind.
You see, in FFXII, I never saw Vayne or Cid as the villains. They were the heroes, wresting the fate of man away from the gods. I would love to play with something similar, and not with a pack of thieves or pirates - aristocrats, the movements of politics, scientists, powerful mages, something like that.
So I think it would be fun to retell FFXII from the side of the Empire. If this strikes your interest, do hit me up, or if you'd like to play a story similar to it! I'm not opposed to having the "good guys" of FFXII heavily involved, either, and potentially work a different outcome where they side with the Empire, too - we could make the Occuria the real threats and villains, this time around!
This story would take place either long after FF8, or ignore FF8's story completely.
Basically, in doing an FF8 RP, I intend to utilize the world and the lore, but gut most of the characters. I also want to muck with the lore a bit, and have Gardens exist right after (or during the war) the great sorceress Adel was put away, thus removing Edea from the mix. I may also want to remove Ultimecia, I’m not too sure yet, but I’d rather not follow along the exact same story as the game.
I want the RP to explore Hyne, the Guardian Forces, and Sorceresses more than the game. I’m picturing Hyne right now as a future antagonist, so head’s up, and there may be someone before him. I love the idea of playing with the Knight/Sorcerer or Knight/Sorceress dynamic (honestly, I'm so down with a male Sorcerer if anyone wants it, haha), so I'd love to include that sort of relationship in this - it need not be "romantic", they can be buds instead, but I want it. I crave it. I was also quite fascinated by Ultimecia creating a Guardian Force, so I definitely want to explore their legacy and history in this. I would love to link up the idea of the Guardian Forces coming into existence as a powerful form of magic created by the sorcerers/sorceresses to protect their Knight, and work from there.
This would take place either before Yuna, or on the assumption that Yuna never existed. Sin has returned. Another summoner must head out to deal with the threat. I would love to play the summoner in this case, and probably one or two companions of the Summoner, as they go on to collect all the fayths, and head to Zanarkand to stop Sin. This could end up being a beautiful tragedy, or we could take it the route of Yuna and end the dream. I am up for either option, but I don't really want to play with the canons. A whole new cast to be made by us, in this world!
I'd love to explore the dynamics of the group as they all approach the end, as well as the relationship that the summoner has with the fayth, and how fayths come to be. It'd be interesting if the group had more exploration into the history of the fayth, to add depth to the story and the lore, and see if they can discover things before they reach Yunalesca.
See here for a list of themes and things from the Final Fantasy games I enjoy playing with and would love to build a story involving!
1. Occuria/Hyne/Godly Figures: Fun fact, Final Fantasy got me into the study of religion through their use of religious and mythical figures, like Shiva. Then they start having actual deity-like entities taking a role in their stories and they don't just make them good or omnipresent. I would love a story that involves their interactions in it, and possible confrontations.
2. Summons: I adore the summons in Final Fantasy and often wish they had more narrative purpose and exploration, as in 9 and 10, and the bios on 12. Stories that focus on them would be awesome. I liked the idea that they were dreamt into being in 9 and 10 but don't know how to use that. Or created by gods...or sorceresses. Summon origin exploration!
3. Character driven side stories: Final Fantasy wove in ways to reveal details about the pasts of characters and follow some if their motivations. Like, Garnet's real name and Yuffie's Wutai challenge. So I would enjoy doing that with many members of the main cast, be it past exploration or goals they have and ambitions.
4. Sympathetic or even Good Villains: Vayne Solidor, Seifer Almasy, Beatrix, Jecht, and a host of others in the series were not all that bad. Vayne Solidor, arguably, was a hero. I want villains that make the heroes reconsider their stance and what they are fighting for. Betrayals optional xD.
5. Side stories and quests. Chocobos, bounty hunting, random town events and such - I don't mind these things and if we can fit them into the flow of the story, I would love it. The problem will be balancing it with narrative urgency, but if we can tie these things in now and then that would be amazing.
