Filtering Words

So, some time ago, I noticed some threads asking about how certain words were censored by the site and transformed into something else. I was wondering, if the site has that capability, would it be possible to create an option that would filter any foul language? It wouldn't have to be a site-wide thing or even the default setting, but I think some people would appreciate it. Personally, that's probably the biggest complaint I have about the site, that there's so much bad language, but I don't really expect it gets much better elsewhere. If there was an option to not have to see all that, I'd definitely use it. Would that be a hard thing to implement?

I'm not sure how hard or easy it would be to implement, since admins are the ones who work on the actual site and features itself.

I really like this idea!  I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement, but I would love to have the option to filter out other bad language.

I think so. You know how certain slurs are changed to "I'm uncultured" or something like that? Could the same process be used to change more common words to asterisks or something under certain settings?

I'm not sure, since it'd have to be affecting what a particular user sees rather than site-wide the way "I'm Uncultured" is.  But we'll look into it.

I support this idea, I think it would just be hard to change all the words to something that would make sense in their place. 


I mean, personally the cursing doesn't bother me, I just think that if people don't want to see it then they shouldn't have to.

I'm not sure about any progress or possibility yet, but until then, maybe you could try using a word-replacer extension for your browser? youd have to type out what words you want to filter though, but then it should automatically change it to whatever you have set on websites.

Oh, I didn't know this was a thing! That might come in handy, though it would be weird typing all the words I didn't want to see, y'know? Maybe I'm just weird.


If there was something where could just highlight something and click 'block', that might be useful.

I like this idea a lot. I'll admit when I was younger I did swear a bit more, now surprisingly I find myself uncomfortable wth swearing, I guess since I've been in a formal setting for so long I've grown out of it. In fact when I swear i pretty much sensor myself. So if this could be a thing that'd be awesome
