Being new to this site, I have quickly noticed a large discrepancy in the writing lengths of different role plays. Many feature a two or three paragraph style of writing, while others feature quick one liners. Others still feature five or more paragraphs of writing. These differences are more nuanced differences and one cannot determine the writing level that a particular roleplay features at a quick glance based on the current site.

While, it is possible to go through and browse the roleplay that has taken place thus far, it is extremely time consuming to navigate through the pages of twenty or more roleplays trying to determine the writing lengths. This also has the drawback that if the roleplay is still at the recruiting stage, it is completely impossible to tell what writing length to expect from the roleplay unless the creator of the roleplay directly states it. Thus, there is no efficient and easy system to determine the level of writing length in a roleplay.

As someone looking for a role play, the length of writing is one of the most crucial things that needs to be determined about a roleplay. Roleplays can have a great starting concept or idea, causing much excitement initially. As time goes on, however, if the writing length of roleplay doesn't match with what a given roleplayer is expecting, they're going to become disenfranchised with the roleplay and look for greener pastures.

I would whole-heartily love to see the implementation of a filter or search based on the writing length. I do not know what the tiers of writing length would be, but such a question should be answered the by the community at large. Please, allow users searching for roleplays to filter by the writing length.

Thanks.

I voted no. Not that I would be bothered if the feature is added but I don't see myself using it. Really if I were to use similar post length as a determining factor to joining a roleplay then I would have missed out on a lot of fun more than once. I've seen a few people venting over how frustrating it is when they give a lengthy post and get one lined in reply. To that all I have to say is that I post based on what I have to say for my character given the situation. As long as people are willing to play with me I am happy to play to with them. If someone wants to gauge how I post they have the option to look at my profile and dig into my posts once I get a bit more history here.

I would have to agree with @Project Brazen II there. He made a good point there, and really that's about what I would have said anyway. Its an interesting idea however its just something I don't really want.

I see where you are going with this. What I can implement immediately is not the fix to your overall request but MAY help to quickly identify a role play efficiency moving forward. I propose the addition of a user generated field that allows users to write in the level of writting required within their role play. This would be featured under the role play overview tab along with the rating:

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2014_01/literacy.png.0719f75e182640f0dff0e589b42f81af.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="12341" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2014_01/literacy.png.0719f75e182640f0dff0e589b42f81af.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Moving forward, we will increase the search engine feature to allow users to search for specific entries in these 3 fields. Ultimately you could search for "Open" > "Mature" > "Semi-Lit" role plays & it would yield all results that have selected these 3 options.

Thoughts? Ideas? Emotional outbursts?

I like the filter based on the Rating system keeping the more mature ones maybe out of view from the younger. Im all for protecting that.

Also the preference of writing needs would... I think maybe be bad. As if someone is passionate about a certain role play and wants to join. I don't think them getting a feeling of maybe they cant do it just based on length needs.

Many people join roleplays and push themselves on certain posts I dunno just my thought if the creator makes it then they usually have it in the rules of post length which is easily found.

Plus The higher rating (Teen, Mature 17) you go the more post length people usually require.

I agree with Brazen on the fact that one may miss out on fun, though I, for one, would love such an addition to the roleplay overview. I have nothing against one-liner roleplays, though I do prefer more semi-lit ones and so this would help out a LOT.

On another note, this should not discourage others from joining an rp; afraid of not keeping up to the post-lengths before even trying.
