Filtemna Academy

At first glance, the only unusual thing about Amethyst was her name. Her eyes were brown, and her wispy black hair didn't really stand out in a crowd. She was a little taller then most girls her age, but not by much. The sharp black polo shirt and khakis she wore were the standard uniform. But she most certainly wasn't normal- if she was, why would she be here at Filtemna Academy, a boarding school for the gifted?

Okay, so yes, her father was principle. But she didn't wasn't here just because of that! She was just as talented as anybody else here! Well, she hoped she was. It was a little early to tell, being the first day and all. First days were always exciting.

Though nothing particularly exciting was happening right now. Or unusual. Or even vaguely interesting. Right now, Amethyst was leaning against a wall, waiting for her roommate to arrive. She was dismantling a pen, and while that counted as vaguely interesting at first, by the tenth time she didn't even notice that she was doing it.

She probably shouldn't have arrived an hour early.

While looking at her phone, Sonia entered the school through the main gate. With her focused blue eyes, she was browsing and researching about the academy she had been enrolled into. Knowing the school had quite a reputation, she intends to learn more about what the school had to offer. Having the room assigned to her being the current destination, sometimes she would brush her fingers through her pale blue hair that matches with her eyes which reaches exactly on her shoulder.

Sonia is fully aware of her gift as she had won several awards during junior high. Although many people of the past had praised her, she pays no mind to them and thought them as empty compliments. Flattery would not improve her skills.

Upon arriving the dormitory, she climbed up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Even though she noticed a girl was standing beside the door to her room, she decided to ignore her and was only interested in the room she was provided with.

Amethyst looked up from the pen in her hand. At last! Signs of human life! A girl was walking towards her! Amethyst smiled. This must be her roommate! She certainly looked interesting. You don't see a blue-haired girl everyday. Amethyst wondered what this girl's talent was. Math? Art? Music? It didn't matter too much. This was her roommate! Maybe they could-

Amethyst suddenly realized that the girl was paying absolutely no attention to her whatsoever. She was just staring at her phone with a focused expression on her face. She didn't look like someone who wanted to talk or be bothered in anyway. Maybe... maybe this was a bad idea. Amethyst nervously brushed her hair back. She suddenly didn't feel that excited. Just sort of twisty and nervous. Amethyst slipped away.

What on Earth was she doing here at a school for the gifted?

When Sonia unlocked the door and pocketed her phone, she was surprised that there were two of everything, beds, desks, wardrobes. A sudden realization struck her when she remembered what her mom told her. "Since it's a boarding school, you will definitely have a roommate. Make sure to be nice to her." those words echoed in her mind. She looked around, not seeing anyone present. Had she not arrived yet? Is this similar to a partner system? Like in a lab, we would do experiments together? Now we need to manage a room together? Those thoughts floats around her mind, baffled with the idea of a roommate.

The luggage she brought was not that heavy but it was not light either. But then she noticed there was also another luggage. So, she has arrived. Wonder where she went...

"Be nice to her." her mother's words were repeated again. She thought that she would wait for her for now and selected the bed which was furthest from the unknown luggage. She brought out her volleyball and lied down. She tossed lightly over her head and caught it, repeating the process waiting for time to pass.

Amethyst stopped before she actually left the floor. Her bout of nervousness was winding down enough for her to think properly.

Hadn't she been looking forward to going to Filtemna since... Well, since forever? Was she really going to run off because she had to say hello to somebody? Her dad was counting on her to make him proud! She turned and walked towards the door to her dorm. Then she stopped, right in front of it. She glanced at a picture of Filtemna graduates hanging on the wall.

"Someday you'll be up there with them." Her dad would always say. Amethyst opened the door. It swung open easily and silently.

Huh... she hoped some sort of heroic fanfare would play.

She thought about how many competition she would win this year. Winning or losing makes no difference to her as long as she was able to stand and play on court. The thrill and the adrenaline, all was still flowing through her body while those memories was still fresh on her mind of her latest competition. She had just won the best setter award before she graduated junior high. Before leaving her home, she remembered to pump the ball because it had been slightly deflated and was currently retesting its condition.

Upon hearing the sound made by the door, she stopped immediately on what she was doing and got up from the bed. That was quick. Right before her was a girl with black hair and brown hair who was about as tall as her. Sonia thought how she had seen her from somewhere before, seemingly forgets that she had just ignored her not just a few minutes ago.

Knowing that she wouldn't exactly be into volleyball, she was not that curious on the girl's gift. What is on her mind that this girl would be of help in 'managing' the room. Introduction is always the initial step.

"I am Sonia Windgard." she spoke as she observed the expression of what was her roommate.

"Hi, I'm Amethyst. I'm your roommate- though, uh, I suppose that's sort of obvious." Amethyst stopped herself before she babbled anything else silly. Despite her incredible self-pep talk earlier, she was still a bit nervous.

She blamed the lack of the heroic fanfare.

Sonia noticed that Amethyst did not mention her surname but pay it no mind."I assume that your bed is that one." pointing at the other bed. She puts her volleyball at her bedside.

"It is divided up quite nicely" gesturing how each bed has a wardrobe and desk nearby."You should know which one is yours."

"Yeah." Amethyst said. She'd already unpacked, so now she just sat down on her bed, doing nothing.

From here, she had the amazing view of a perfectly dull wall. It could use a picture or two. Preferably two. Amethyst could probably put something together in art class. Well, if she had art class. They weren't getting their schedules until tommorow's assembly. Amethyst briefly considered heading down to the office to see if the schedules were printed out yet, but she doubted she'd be allowed to. Her dad had made it quite clear that she wasn't going to be getting any special treatment. Several times, in fact. Not that she'd been expected any sort of pampering!

It was rather unlikely that she'd end up with art class though. She was more skilled at painting pictures with words then she was with brushes and paint. Unless she used the brushes to paint words. Then it was even.

After determining which is whose, Sonia began to unload her luggage which did not take much time since she is quite efficient. Hanging some of her clothes inside the wardrobe, arranging her notebooks on her desk and finally grabbed her volleyball. She had the urged to practice then headed for the door and looked back to the girl. She tried to recall her name while looking at the ball but lastly deem it unimportant. "I'm going." she clarified and just left the room without listening to her response.

"Bye..." Amethyst's voice trailed off as she realized that Sonia had already left. Not the best of meetings, but it probably could have gone worse.

Amethyst walked over to the one window in the room, out of lack of anything else to do. She could see the pool and some sort of court. Maybe it was the volleyball court. Maybe that's where Sonia was going. She'd taken a volleyball with her, hadn't she? Amethyst didn't really have anything better to do, so she waited to see if her roommate would appear on it.

Upon arriving at the indoor volleyball court in which she referred to the school map to find it, Sonia finds it empty and without any hesitation, start warming up since she does not want any injuries when practicing after having placed her ball at the side of the court. Finishing it after a few minutes, she immediately grab the ball and start doing serves with standing at one end of the court. Throwing the ball into the air followed by a jump and the moment it reached her eye level, she hit it while aiming at the center of the other side of the net. She repeatedly continue practicing her serves and was too focused to notice her surroundings.
