Weird Bunny Lurker
Mrs. Malone's 8th grade Physics Class.
The tall, dark-haired woman swatted a fly away, a vacant expression on her pale face. She looked at the students in her room. Not paying attention, are they?
She let out an audible sigh. "How disappointing. Class!" She shouted sharply. A few select students stared at her. "Thank you." She stared at the rest of the students. "Well, well. Looks like we've got a...disappointing amount of rebels. No matter." She smiled. "Newton's first law, kiddos. Can I have a volunteer?"
One girl raised her hand. "Pick me, miss!"
"No, Wendy," the woman said. "How about...you?" A long, sharp finger aimed and fired at a boy that was talking on and on, uttering curse words frequently. "You!" The boy looked up guiltily. "What's your name?"
"Francis," he said nervously.
"Francis," the woman tried out the word. "You are now our test subject. Now, I will put thumbtacks on the left side of the room."
Francis muttered something inaudible; a few people sniggered. The woman gave them the death glare and took out the thumbtacks, throwing them across the left side. Some girls with no backbone squealed like pigs. Others were unfazed; too busy texting. The boys cursed.
"Now I want you to walk from the right side to the left." Francis opened his mouth in protest. "No arguing."
The eighth grader sighed; he walked past several desks, then, when he reached the border, he looked uncertainly at the woman. She nodded.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaghhh!"
There was silence for a few minutes after the unexpected noise, then the woman said, "Wendy, can you take Francis to the nurse's office? He appears to have learned Newton's first law."
