01. introduction.

Hey everyone! This is the lore thread. Here, we post any information on the setting (country specific). Butelahn's information is required for you all to know as it is the main setting of this rp, but don't stress about reading everyone else's unless your character is supposed to be familiar with other countries.

Although the lore of Butelahn will be regulated by the GM's, we welcome and even encourage you all to post your own lore for countries if you plan on making your character from somewhere else. Still, writing lore is not required, and it can even be as simple as stating the country's name and how they feel about conamen, or just their government type. This is a purely optional thread.

If you choose to participate, please make sure your country stays accurate to the overall lore and doesn't contradict anything in Butelahn's history, as said history will also apply to every other country involved. The following are requirements/rules for country creation:
  • Countries must either have a negative overall view of conamen, or a neutral. Positive overall views are not allowed.
  • All countries must be allies with one another and have a positive relationship. Even if it is superficial and you would like tensions with some country (including Butelahn), that is completely okay and allowed, but just know that they are all allies, even if just in name.

This is the code we used for Butelahn's lore! Using this code (or any code at all) is not required, but if you want, feel free to use it!

Happy lore-ing!

Politics
The Butelahn government is an absolute monarchy that has been in power for countless of centuries. Ruled by the Knight family, Butelahn is a nation of success and power, being one of the largest countries in current activity, although only in population.

However, despite their apparent success as a nation, Butelahn's government is an especially corrupt one. Its focus has consistently been on maintaining power and order rather than quality of life and consideration for the people, despite the fact that those separate interests may align in certain points.

Butelahn still remains an overall wealthy country, however, and being both strong in force and in manipulation of its people, any signs of rebellion is far from reality—although, only appearance.
Status
The social hierarchy of Butelahn is split into two types: the noble, and the commoners. While, of course, there are those higher and lower in status within those groups, more or less the difference is staggeringly noticable due to large economic gaps.

Within the noble class are royalty, other politicians (such as royal advisors, delegates, etc), educators, and knights, all in that order. Of course, it also includes their immediate family members. Although there may be other occupations within the noble class through strictly wealth instead of both wealth and social standing, it is more common for them to be connected with the above jobs. Naturally, royalty are at the top of the scale.

Within the commoners are the rest of the populatin of Butelahn. Rather than social standing, commoners are moreso higher in standing based purely on wealth; however, even the wealthiest commoner will be worlds away from the poorest noble. Centuries of corrupt government and exploitation of the lower class have widened the economic gap a painfully obvious amount, leaving most commoners on the same boat. Because of this, there is hardly as much tension within the common population regarding standing as there is in the noble.
History
Butelahn has been ruled over by the Knight family since the country’s conception—although to the naked eye, they are a state of pristine power, a long and bloody story trails behind Butelahn’s high status and reputation.

The government of Butelahn has always been power hungry. Aside from taking advantage of their own lower class citizens, Butelahn was a military-heavy state that frequently pursued new land and wars with neighboring countries. They had a winning streak, too, only encouraging their desperate cravings for power.

However, after their first loss in a particularly agonizing war lead to what has now been over a century of peace between Butelahn and every other established country. Following their own declarations of peace, no one moved to provoke a state with as strong a military as Butelahn’s, and along with their many gifts, diplomatic missions, assistance in conflict, and the annual celebration of peace and harmony, most relations have been repaired—well, at least superficially.

However, Butelahn still exhibits no shortage of power craving. Although most of the public has been guided by strategic nationalism led by the government for years, rebellions have always been part of the population. All have failed in the past, but the future remains unseen…
Culture
Butelahn’s culture is heavily influenced by the Knight family’s generational attempts to uphold their power and status. Although there are rumors of rebellion, most subjects adore their royals. An atmosphere of respect and pride in their country, its rulers, and blind loyalty has been crafted for centuries, despite any disparities in quality of life between the lower and upper classes. A lack of education is a strong influence on this, as only nobles are usually able to afford schooling.

This love is cause for celebration in the kingdom—thus started one of the biggest holidays of the year, Knights Day. On this day, citizens of Butelahn give thanks for all their rulers have done for us. Songs are written, there are festivals, and gifts are given. The focus is the royals, but it eventually grew to be tradition to give gifts to everyone one is thankful for. Some may criticize the holiday and say it is selfish, most see it as a day to show others how much they are appreciated.

The second most important holiday in Butelahn is the Week of Unity, which celebrates the peace between the many countries in the land. There remains an—unfortunate history, so on the Day of Unity, we appreciate that said period is now over. On this holiday, there are feasts, festivals, balls, and parades, all of which are held in the capital and on castle grounds, completely open to the public.

Though Butelahn is generally a place of great joy, there is still one topic considered taboo: conamen.

Emphasized centuries ago by the crown out of fear of their demise, it is seen as fact that conamen are dangerous and likely to end in failure. Although this belief was influenced by the government, lack of education and a shielding of their own darker sides of history has resulted in the citizens’ view of conamen is seen as fact completely independent of Butelahn culture and their government.

Many go through great lengths to avoid their conamin, out of fear of what has been passed down through generations. Almost every citizen in Butelahn has this view, and few diverge from it.

As stated in status, there is an alarming gap between the different economic classes. Although the royal family periodically give assistance to appease their citizens and feed into their positive view of the crown and blind nationalism, many of the common people struggle just to make ends meet. Acceptance into the academy is usually the only way into noble society, aside from marriage—but, who in the world is out marrying commoners?

The Petty Kingdom of Davny

The Petty Kingdom of Davny is a small coastal kingdom that stretches out for roughly 10,000 square miles (A little bigger than the island of Scilly) . Visually it is known for its immaculate beaches and pristinely blue waters. As a country it is considered painfully weak and while it can support itself with a striving economy it has to rely on a mix of its own volunteer based military and mercenaries to protect itself. Despite the small size the country is well known for it’s focus on learning and education. While that sounds nice the education is not entirely equal.

Much like other countries the people of Davny are split into two different classes, the lower class which are all taught a basic education but tend to serve in normal everyday task that commoners would do in other kingdoms. Examples being tavern workers, bakers, merchants, soldiers, etc. The real difference between the Davny and other countries is how the nobility is set up. While money is a definite factor the main determining factor is the families level of education. Education for nobles starts at the tender age of four and they remain in schooling until they turn twenty five years of age. After that many of the noble families settle down to produce their heirs and teach the next generation while expanding their own knowledge.

With being a small kingdom owning land is less relevant and most nobles gather together in luxurious houses in big cities to have constant debates and intrigue among them. This bleeds into the royalty of Davny with the King/Queen of the land being expected to have the greatest mind of the kingdom. If the King/Queen of the kingdom loses a debate then that is proof they are unfit to rule and are dethroned in favor of the winner of the debate. This has put a weird twist on the meaning of royalty for those who live in Davny.

As for the Conamen the country generally has a negative perspective of it. For many the strange Conamen is a doomsign, one that will cause suffering in the future but there have been cases of people in Davny having a more curious outlook rather than a straight distaste for it.

Kingdom of Corvus

The Kingdom of Corvus is a large nation made up of mostly mountains. While it is called a kingdom it is barely really a kingdom and is primarily ruled by a council of clan leaders that in name is supposed to only be an advisory to the king, but in reality it is the ruling body of the kingdom. The King acts as more of a puppet figure and a figure to unite behind in times of trouble, but does not pass laws or make his own judgements. This is to make sure that no one man stands above his fellow man in the eyes of the law, rather he stands out because of the glory he has earned.

Due to the rough nature of the landscape the Corvian people are a tough and hardy folk. They tend to have bulkier builds that work better to hard labor and fighting, which the society is based upon. Education, well being, and standard of living is not much of a concern for the people of Corvus, instead they worry about putting food on the table, a good day’s work, and earning the most glory possible for themselves in life.
Due to their societies focus on glory almost the entire nation has some form of combat training. From the age of five children are trained to use a weapon and at the age of sixteen a teenager becomes an adult, and to celebrate this achievement the new adult then forges themselves a weapon from which they gather the materials themselves. This process is believed to bring them closer to the weapon and themselves, forming a bond that will never break. If a citizen of Corvus loses that weapon then it is believed that they have lost themselves as well.

While there is a concept of nobility and commoner in Corvus it is a strange one. The kingdom is divided up into several clans, and all citizens of Corvus belong to a clan. What makes someone a noble is there position in the clan. If they are a high ranking member of the clan then they are considered part of the nobility while others are considered commoners. In theory anyone is capable of becoming a noble by earning themselves glory on the field of battle, but only so many will actually earn enough to become a noble. Meanwhile the opposite is true. If a noble shows cowardice or laziness it is possible for them to lose prestige and fall out of the position of a noble forcing them to work harder to prove themselves once more.

For the Conamen the perception is almost universally hated. The bond of fates between different people is seen as a betrayal to one’s clan and one’s bond with their weapon. The Conamen’s contradiction and lack of control the people have over it are a mark of weakness for the Corvian and the only time it is generally accepted is when it so happens that when the bonds of fate tie two people in the same clan together.

The Recovering Country of Elladame

History: Elladame was an absolute monarchy, and a bad one at that. Elladame's rulers have been continously unfit for the crown, the biggest problem being the way they handle their money. Some of kingdom's subjects were close to extreme poverty. The kingdom's soldiers have helped with the revolution against them, and have successfully achieved their goal.

Current Status: Elladame is now run by the Elladame High Council (EHC). There is a Head of the High Council, that changes every two years. Elladame is slowly accumulating their wealth again, though their military is still very weak, seeing that it's not a priority nor a concern. Elladame is known for their poor history, but to the subjects, they're supposed to be known for their kind and generous population.

People: The nobility was abolished, and since have turned into ordinary commoners. Only a handful of the population get a decent education, but a lot of them are content with that and would rather work to benefit the next generation.

Conamen: Their overall view of them is negative. The fact that it could bring people horrible sorrow worries them, added to the fact that couples who have bonded themselves with one another (marriages) could still have a string with a different person.

Land of Aurora
1619043573365.png

Information: The land of aurora is known for its pristine nature, every last member of its kingdom was handpicked by the Oberlynns, they only accept the best of the best. Aurora is one of the richest kingdoms in all the lands, specifically the oberlynn royalty, they are disgustingly rich. The land of aurora is known for its ballroom, littered with gems, specifically diamond, that light up the grand hall when a single light is lit, every little bit of light being cast around the room in diverse shadows and light similar to aurora borealis, the light bends and shines in beautiful patterns. Aurora takes in hundreds and thousands of applications every year and the current ruler accepts whoever they see fit, however on a rare occasion if they hear about someone they want they will extend an open invitation to that specific family/person. Aurora has a very tight watch on every corner, nook, and cranny of their kingdom within the titanous walls, they only accept people for every Aurorian house they have built, it's in their custom to only allow Aurorian houses to be built within the walls.

History: Recently King James Oberlynn had an "untimely" demise and his firstborn son, Erik oberlynn took over asking. Aurora is known for its insane riches it's acquired after the first oberlynn, Aurora Oberlynn found an entire cave system littered in gems and gold, specifically the diamond, now auroras color is white, in honor of the white diamond aurora is known for. Aurora is known to stay out of trouble, often not choosing sides when two kingdoms go into battle with one another. The Oberlynn family first came to Aurora on a large boat, with over 100 different family members settling down and building the empire together.

Current Status: Thriving, everyone in aurora is wealthily living off the riches they made over the years, homelessness and poverty has never been seen within the walls of Aurora. Aurora is in pristine condition, the walls huge and seemingly invincible, Aurora is one of the few thriving kingdoms, of course, not without sacrifice.

People: The people within aurora are very wealthy and well behaved, with one of the lowest crime rates in all of the lands. The people were each handpicked by the Oberlynns that ruled over the years. only the best of the best. Due to that privilege each of them has, Aurora's people mostly consist of elegant Nobles and Aristocrats, though they do have a very powerful military system due to the riches they have they were able to provide themselves with the best fighters and warriors to protect them. Every Citizen gets the best treatment and Education. They are very strict when it comes to acceptance so getting an invitation is very rare. Technically Aurora doesn't have Nobles or Aristocrats in their social structure due to the fact that every Citizen is wealthy. They don't only accept the wealthy, if they hear about a legendary warrior/fighter or a very very beautiful maiden, they will extend an invitation, then supply the newcomer with the riches they desire.

Conamen: Aurorians believe that a conamen is just an emotional bond, nothing that important that arranged marriages cant fix. though the belief that one person belongs to another as soon as being born sounds ridiculous to them, although they realize its true, they still believe you can be happy with someone you or your family chose for you, not just your "soulmate".

Seneca

  • politics

Seneca is a small, citizen-oriented nation with a counsel that governs over the citizens, each member having equal authority over every aspect of their government. They are all voted in—in fact, voting has a huge part in Seneca’s organization.

To be a member of the counsel, one must have at least ⅘ of the population’s vote to be inducted, and voting is every five years. There is no minimum or limit to the amount of members the counsel can have, and every citizen is able to vote for as many people as they wish. Of course, they cannot vote for the same person more than once in one election.

Political decisions are also voted on by the general populace, and the counsel is in charge of putting those decisions into execution.

Seneca does extremely well economically, and each one of its citizens’ welfare are accounted for. The noble class is made up of those with jobs that support the general population, such as counsel members (both current and past), teachers, doctors, etc., and isn’t dictated by wealth. In fact, there’s little gap between the economic classes.

The noble class is made up of those with jobs that support the general population, such as counsel members (both current and past), teachers, doctors, etc., and isn’t dictated by wealth. In fact, there’s little gap between the economic classes.
History
Seneca has always had a weak military, but the location usually acted as reasonable protection from conflict over the years. They have little history of conflicts living in isolation, but once found by the ever-expanding Butelahn, a good amount of their land was taken from them. Little has been given back following those times, and although they are currently listed as mutual allies, the relationship between Butelahn and Seneca have always reasonably tense due to their violent past.

In fact, most of Seneca’s history with other countries is relatively new, including with Butelahn. Despite this, however, they have a strong presence in all diplomatic meetings and work well to keep relations healthy, self-aware about their weaker military compared to the other larger and usually more aggressive societies.

Seneca also has a record of being advanced in inventions and in their studies, specifically in medicine and nature. Much of the modern medical field in many different countries are a result of Seneca’s shared discoveries.
Culture
Although small in both radius and population, Seneca has a rich culture with an emphasis on quality of life above all. There is a strong sense of nationalism due to their proximity from other societies and shallow history with other cultures, but their strong sense of community stretches to anyone and everyone on their land. It's normal to small talk with random strangers or be escorted across the the whole mountain by a Senecan after simply asking for directions. The concept of alliship is one that is extremely valued.

Seneca also has a nation-wide culture of environmental preservation; farming and land cultivation is one of their specialties. Hunting beyond what is needed for food is outlawed, and their homes and any other structures are always built with the land rather than taking anything down to construct. They also do not mine, instead using materials from the surface. Seneca's most common religion is also based on this value. Rather than worshiping deities, they worship their land and environment. This is also is a large reason for their pioneering in the medical field, as Seneca familiarizes itself extremely well with different herbs and all things plant-based.

The arts are also especially prevalent in their culture. With their emphasis on quality of life, the outlet of creativity is held in high regard and is a common hobby among the population.

Visual art is sculpted into rock, weaved into fabrics of their clothes, and the basis of interior design in their homes. Sculptures tend to be exaggerations of human and animal attributes, and fabrics are always bold and vibrant in color, with mesmerizing designs unique to Seneca. The outside of their homes are usually green, beige, and brown, as a result of materials from nature used to build the homes, while the inside has stark contrasts due to decoration.

Music is typically made from drum and woodwind-like instruments, and is extremely versatile—most songs have language used with physical instruments, and although lyrics are just as wide in variety, many are retellings of different folk stories. Stories run strongly in Senecan culture, and they usually are full of action, adventure, and romance. Actually, romance is a staple of quite a few folktales, most of which plot-driven by conamen.

Because of this, Seneca's view on conamen is mostly neutral. Many of their stories have tales of love and happy endings guided by the thread, but just as many of danger, evil, and strife. This is also a result of most Seneca having open minded views on most concepts, slow to draw specific conclusions and inclined to form open ended theories.

However, logic-based relationships are more common than those based on feeling, even though both are valued the same. Arranged marriages are usually how people marry, despite the fact that they can be broken with full support should someone find another they wish to marry. Mutually beneficial relationships are also costumery; most counsel members have at least one citizen they exchange financial support with for the sake of whatever—services they desire...
Geography
and along rivers and waterfalls, while others are on steep elevation with stairs, ropes, and ladders as guides. A few groups in Seneca are also nomadic and follow the animals, although became more of a minority following much of the land forcibly taken into Butelahn's borders in the past.

In the past, most lived towards the top of the mountain, but they have been inching lower and lower in elevation over time. Seneca is more on the southern sideir of the continent, so they are also in close proximity to the coast, and have shorter winters despite being so higher up in the atmosphere by living in mountains.
