@CaptainMcNoob that is one a heck of a character ! *thumbs up*

Awwww, thank you! I like yours as well, was thinking about, when the RP starts, having Gareth looking for a new blacksmith among the refugees because theirs passed away on the trip to the new world and offering her a job. Also making some fun comments on her gender that could lead to fun dialogue! Thoughts?

Harriette might not be “stable” when you meet her as it is picking up where everyone is leaving the harbor. And she is very heartbroken about her weapons, you will learn later! But if you do make fun of her gender, she will simply take it and say something very funny, but she doesn’t insult. atleast, she’s never learned to do it properly.

XD It wouldn't be like, "A woman blacksmith!?" It'd be more, "Why aren't you married? You're pretty, strong and have the hips to pop them kids out," and poking people like that is just how he copes with life.

Vudukudu Vudukudu I'm contemplating making a character, but I'd like a little more info on the Lutheri and how long the Alliance has been fighting them, and also a bit more on religion. I'm thinking of making a disenchanted ex-paladin that's acting as a spiritual anchor for the weary and protecting some holy texts, despite having huge doubts in the gods herself.

Specifically for the latter, I'm confused on how religion is practiced. If there is a single god/godess for each race, do the races only worship the respective deity of their race? Does that mean that the races only try to exmeplify the aspects of their respective deity? For instance, Humans try to be nurturing, generous, merciful people while the Orcs adhere to strict codes or oaths and have no issues fighting to take whatever they want. Would Humans not pray to Rogar Orrix that he bless the outcome of their battles, or value any of the aspects of any of the other deities like art or magic?

If everyone worships every deity (like a pantheon), then are race relations not really much of a big deal? It's kind of hard to say the elves are sucky if one of them is a god you pray to and he passes out literal candy coated miracles to those that worship him bestest.

Just going to kind of arbitrarily assign numbers to things, if I miss something, just point it out.

1. Regarding the Lutheri, they've been around since the dawn of time, but have only been an existential threat to the dawn of time. What few "ancient" historical documents exist definitely suggest that some of the original border fortifications were constructed to keep them out, but the Alliance is only about two hundred years old. Previous Lutheri invasions of a grand scale occurred, but typically failed due to a lack of proper siege equipment. As for the Alliance's engagement with them specifically, they spent a decade in their early years enduring sieges, and went without a major event until now, though there is fairly constant skirmishing with small groups handled by border patrols. They're to be treated as something of a force of nature - no one quite knows why the Lutheri do what they do, and when taken captive they do not speak. Scholarly theories abound as to what motivates them, but most people care more about killing them than figuring out their motivations.

2. Worship is irrespective of race, and even the most anti-Orc human is going to recognize Orrix is a god. Many have a preferred god, but its usually more to do with whichever one best lines up with them than their race. A Dwarf warrior probably carries a charm dedicated to Orrix, an Orc woodcarver probably prays to Athos.

3. This gets a bit weird, because fantasy theology is always a bit weird. Everyone recognizes other races as being at least legitimate, because they've produced a Divine. On the other hand, what little is known of Divine Ascension as a concept makes it ripe for interpretation, and the generally assumed logic is that each of the pre-Ascension Divines was the perfect embodiment of their ideals and that actually being that is very, very hard which is why there aren't many gods. With that in mind, many among the clergy hold the view that Divines are so pure, so unattached to the aspects of race, that Orrix being an Orc, or Olon being a Dwarf, is essentially a coincidence. That has largely canonized the idea that a race itself isn't particularly sacred for having produced a Divine.

Besides that, there's always the standard issues - Orcs waged a particularly bloody series of battles against Marsh-Landers and Elves, and the Marsh-Landers still have some territorial beef with the Orcs. Most people think Elves are weird for participating in what is essentially ritual cannibalism. Dwarves and Elves get along rather well over a mutual appreciation of the crafts. Human (nobility, at least) is famous in modern history for having something of a superiority complex - we built the Alliance, we broke the last great Lutheri siege, it is our sons and daughters who make up the bulk of the border patrols, it is our wealth that built this kingdom's greatness and no one else particularly likes hearing that. Cultural misunderstandings will always be an issue, as will some historical antagonisms or just daily interactions.

In general, assume race relations is a fairly wide-spanning issue. Some people may not actually care what you are, some people may refuse to do business with Orcs over ancestral hatreds. Others might just hold some minor prejudices.

Part three got far longer than I intended.

Vudukudu Vudukudu You mostly answered everything I wanted to know. You certainly covered religion. I guess I wasn't specific enough about what I wanted to know about the Lutheri. I want to know what they are. What do they look like? Are these pale goblins? White walkers? Do they bark orders at each other in an unknown language? Do they even appear to have different levels of ranks in their armies? Basically, I wanted to know the kinds of things that could help me right a battle with them (part of my characters history).

Also, I didn't mean how long have the Lutheri been around at all. I meant how long has this current losing war against them been taking. Have they capitulated the entire Alliance in a single week? A Year? 10 Years? That sort of thing.

Ahh, I see.

As for what they are, picturing an elf with sickeningly pale skin and goblin-ish features is about right. They have a language, but it bears no apparent similarities to other tongues and has yet to be deciphered in any meaningful way. Concerning ranks, there don't seem to be commanders, but there's clearly some sort of strategic intelligence at play given the choices they make. On occasion, a Lutheri force will have what is usually referred to as a behemoth, which appears to be something like a LotR cave troll with the same visual modifications and far more agility.

The current war has been on-going for about five years. The first year predominantly occurred in border regions, and then moved inward. The invasion's been coming from basically all directions, though the bulk of the force came from the east. In that time, smaller forces razed villages, larger ones targeted forts and towns.

Hey there guys, finally got my CS made up. If Katherine gets accepted, whose ship do you guys thing she should be on?

Up to you. Everyone but my character is on the flagship. So if you want to be more front and center for the initial 'Sail to the Unknown Lands!' best to be on the flagship. If you want to RP with my guy, directly, for the 'Sail to the Unknown Lands!' can hop on his boat, or you can go onto your own and kinda explore your own character with some NPCs while they do the whole sailing thing.

ithinkcat ithinkcat working on one now. Nah, its cool. When I wrote my opener, I did so with the belief that it would just be me, myself and I for the first 5-6ish post cause people tend to flock to the center of the story for fear of being left out. So I didn't set up a whole lot of stuff for someone to work with without the promise of a mostly NPC experience.

Plus, I like setting up a few openings for other people to make it easier to jump in.

CaptainMcNoob CaptainMcNoob Ah, Vudukudu updated the Lore page with church info since I needed to know a lot of it for my character. I think he fits the personality of a "Pincher" quite well.

Meh, then he was a cleric, not much of one as he couldn't get the 'oneness' going very well, used more his position to let him get what he needed from villages he passed through, as he got older and so not quite as able to travel and milk his position, settled down in Gareth's lands [since they are out of the way and Gareth never paid much mind to the church so not exactly going to double check his credentials] as a more mundane, but sheltered, priest.

Feel free to do whatever. Really not worried about him. Outside of, possibly, having something further along with said old man using hope and zeal to try and wrestle control of the ship via the masses, I don't have much planned for him. Want to have your character have a theocratic argument with him to expose him as a piss poor priest who was a failed cleric? Go for it. Want to develop him more into something else, all you. Want to talk to the sergeant, also all you. I don't mind what you do.
