Fantasy Fantasy With A Twist

Quick note, this is just a concept. No concrete plot or anything like that yet. If there is interest, I'll try to work on it in my spare time. Don't expect anything soon!


Most people do fantasy in medieval times, set in Europe or another western-located place. What I'd like to try out is Eastern Fantasy. Instead of brave knights, there are samurai. Replacing dragons, ogres, and elves, are xiangliu, oni, and kitsune. The plot would be relatively similar to a fantasy in typical medieval period in England, France, etc, but would instead be set in feudal Japan or somewhere else in Asia.


I haven't fleshed out the plot yet ( Or even attempted to do so. ) but it would most likely revolve around an inferior and ambitious feudal lord as he commences a coup to overthrow those in power and claim the riches of the land for himself.


Thoughts? Opinions? Needlessly aggressive comments? All are appreciated. Just want to see if anyone would be into this idea before I try to make something out of it.

I'm interested..and somewhat feel kind of silly because of my current icon. Although, wouldn't there still be dragons? Those creatures seem to pop up pretty much everywhere. Would people play just regular people or could some be kitsunes, tanukis, onis, and other various yokai that I can't really recall. I know there's living items and also some creepy monster ideas around as well (but I'm somewhat afraid to mention them this late at night in a dark room so I won't). Probably would be best to set it in Japan..perhaps to attract more people..um..what else is there? Is he trying to overthrow another clan or is he trying to overthrow the Emperor (because that has happened a couple times before) or is he just starting with a clan?

Squee I'm highly interested~ I've always been into Western fantasy, and now that you've mentioned it I haven't rp'd much Eastern fantasy so I'm going koasdonoehrf. Gimme those ninjas, oni, samurai and all that.

I'd assume our ambitious lord would be trying to overtake another clan, and starting small before growing big.

Will there be something related to magic that is typical in many fantasy rps, but is related to the Eastern theme such as instead of the normal, have it be in the form of something like chi, and possibly more of borrowing a youkai or spirits power. Though this is just a suggestion.

I'm interested, also willing to help fing about ideas, got quite abit of knowledge on the more nitty gritty of youkai and their like, mainly because I read quite a deal of old horror stories, gona be honest, Japan didn't screw around with their ghosts and demons, and I eat that up faster then... Something fast, it's 2 AM don't expect top quality comedy here.


Regardless, a plot should be easy enough to scrounge up, history will be in our hands, with more yokai and yomou presence we may even need specialized hunters or exorcists. Pick and choose what we want, can't always have a giant foot appearing that demands to be washed eh? Btw if it does come up wash it, or get trampled to death, hold you nose.
