Cater Diamond

Cater had heard Marie’s quiet noises and pleas, but couldn’t quite make out what they were. So, even though he felt terrible, he ignored them. Not for any reason other than he didn’t want to pry. And besides, he was simply too tired. Sleep was good.

Nobody said anything, so he took that as a sign to open the door and invite them in. If Yumeko was already there, he’d simply wave and say nothing, hoping she’d get the idea and be cool with it.

They all got ready for bed and Cater collapsed on his bed. He had expected everyone to use some extra blankets and pillows and find a good spot on the floor, or even share with Yumeko. Instead, he felt weight wrap around him. Marie had just simply- laid on top of him. Just- without so much as a word. And she was almost instantly asleep. She wasn’t particularly heavy, so that wasn’t an issue. In fact, he quite enjoyed the comfort. The weight and the warmth was nice. The most warm thing, however, was the beat red blush that was now spread across his face. He was aware he was the one who invited them, but it finally hit him. A girl. Was sleeping. In his bed. WITH HIM. If anyone was still awake, they definitely would have noticed his look of pure embarrassment and innocence.

3084CD9A-5F03-47BC-835C-E0C36EA155F0.png

Naturally he didn’t have the heart to tell her to get off. And also though he wouldn’t admit it, he found it quite adorable and sweet. Even as the feeling of pain and despair fell upon him again, he said nothing. Though it was difficult-due to embarrassment and Marie’s touch effect-he did manage to fall asleep after a while. It was like trying to fall asleep with a fever. You never really hit REM. His brain moved in and out of various dreams. Of the ones he could remember by morning, none of them were pleasant.

The worst one of all was the one with his friends from home. They were in… Heartslabyul dorm’s garden? Marie was there, but she wasn’t in her usual outfit. Her dress was more like the Queen of hearts. The distinct heart decals gave that away. Her long blond hair was pulled into a tight bun. One by one she touched his school friends and their heads rolled. One by one his friends were gone. And she… laughed. He tried running. Calling out to them. Nothing worked. He wasn’t there to save them. The last one. The final nail in the coffin. Marie stepped up to Trey, his absolute best friend. His first real friend. Trey’s eyes met his, a look that screamed “save me” before he met the same fate as the others. His eyes remained wet as his head hit the ground. It was only once everyone was gone that Cater was able to run back home to them.

He jolted up- or he would have- if Marie wasn’t still on top of him. His eyes opened with a start and the image of his dream was still burned into them, even as he looked to the bare walls of the room. He found his arms were wrapped around the girl. When did that happen? Perhaps he had grasped onto her in attempt to find anything for comfort. Now he just really needed her off of him.

“Morning, sleepyhead. Time for the usual meeting.”

His voice was raspy as typical in the morning, but even worse since his sleep was so weak. He smiled at her as she opened her eyes.

He gently pushed her off and sat on the edge of the bed. He stretched his arms, ready to greet the day, and attempting to push the thoughts of his nightmares out. Thankfully they were already starting to fade.

He thought back to something Marie said the night prior. “When you were with Menma just then, you were really mad. The look in your eyes was cold... It didn't suit you. Not at all."

It didn’t suit him? Was he not allowed to be angry? She must have been taken aback by it, that’s all. It wasn’t often he showed his anger. Would it be better to show more often for her to get used to it? Or for him to just not show it at all?

He was clearly zoning out, completely forgetting about getting ready and going to the meeting. His thoughts were still jumbled from the contact with Marie.

Music Venue

The music venue was a quaint little space that looked akin to a fancy lounge. Felt couches and chairs made up one half of the room, which all faced a wood-paneled stage. Magenta curtains hung around the stage and soft lighting gave it all a warm feeling. On the stage was a number of instruments, including a grand piano that stood just to the left of center stage. At the back of the stage a number of items were behind curtains which made up an array of electronic equipment associated with playing music.

Clementine had joined Sophie and Pinkie Pie, though had very little to say. She looked upon the piano with some level of awe before approaching it. She wheeled herself on stage so that she could touch the piano. "Huh," she said.

Radio Broadcasting Room

The radio broadcasting room was not a large space. There was a waiting section where one could look into a recording booth through glass, as well as a mic and computer set up for broadcasting to the radio. Within the booth was a large collection of CDs and records.

Zen Garden

Despite being directly below the main floor, the Zen Garden appeared as if one was stepping into a courtyard. The sun shone from above, illuminating a quaint and quiet space. Bonsai trees flanked a couple of Monokuma statues with their big bellies out. The ground was mostly soft grass, though there was a pattern of soft sand in a circle around the garden.

Suddenly, Monokuma appeared before Frank. "Hey, you!" he said. "You should rub their bellies for good luck!"

It wasn't a very large space, and Atsushi wasn't exactly sure what to expect when he entered. He glanced at Aru only briefly, remembering the information he had looked at regarding his roommate during their second day.

This information along with how freaked out she was about ending up in jail before she really did anything said a lot. At least, it didn't make her feel like a threat. For now.

Gaze taking in the room again it landed on the CDs for a second. Ah, perhaps there was an intercom or speaker system in the building that could possibly heard throughout? Maybe they could figure out a way to get it to work in helping them escape?

He did take a look at the computer to see if there was anything of note on that front.

Claude Von Riegan

Ultimate Stratigist

FE3H_Screenshot_Claude_%282%29.png

Resteraunt

When 8AM rolled around, Claude made his way to the resteraunt for their usual breakfast meeting. As far as he knew the meeting was still on to make sure there was a good head count every morning. He figured the morning meeting would be when he would discover who was missing. What bodies they'd have to look for. However what he would walk into would be anything but their usual meeting.
Where on earth did all of these Monokumas come from? They were everywhere in here now. All of them seemed to be dressed as cooks and waiters there to serve the group some gormet cuisine. Somehow he doubted that they were just going to do that. He couldn't helo but look suspiciously as a chef Monkuma told him I hope you enjoy my cooking! when he walked in shortly after Clementine. Normally he'd be eager to eat food but when it was prepared by a Monokuma he wasn't so sure. He noticed Clementine had erased the partner system. Wait...was she just giving up? Was she giving up on trying to prevent more deaths by establishing partnerships? Or maybe it was just because someone tampered with them anyway. He figured by the way that she ended up leaving the cafeteria that their meeting was also not happening either. There would be no way to get a good headcount if their meeting was cancelled! How would they know when someone's missing?! It was funny now that he was even thinking the when more than the if. Monokuma's words must really be setting in with the stratigist. Sighing, Claude decided to make it so no one else wasted their time coming and took it upon himself to send the following mass text to everyone except Clementine, for obvious reasons:

* Hey, everyone. I don't think Clem is up to doing this whole resteraunt meeting thing. It'd be nice, I guess, for my own peace of mind if you guys answer this mass text so we can be sure nobody's missing. If anyone has another idea for a meet spot that'd be great!! I'm going to be doing some exploring in the meantime

They had to get a headcount somehow. Might as well add what he's doing too since his messenging partner was also executed. Maybe they can work something new out. It really depended on how people responded, if they do at all.
When he recieved his breakfast, he got to work eating even though he wasn't really in the mood. That was after looking through the food and deciding it hadn't been tampered with. After he was finished eating, Claude made his way out of the resteraunt since there was no meeting and decided to do some exploring. When walking through the main hall, he noticed a new area was open.

Zen Garden

Upon arriving at the new area, Claude immediately became interested in the Zen Garden. In all honesty, the Ultimate Stratigist was tired out from yesterday. When he was feeling exceptionally burned out, sometimes just a bit of fresh air would rejuvinate him. It'd been 5 days now since any of them had seen much of the outdoors, being trapped in this hotel area. Maybe some time relaxing in some nature will calm him down and help him focus.

When he stepped out, seeing the sun's rays was already quite refreshing. Well, that was if he didn't see all these Monokuma statues! A grim reminder of the reason they were all here. One couldn't even step outside to enjoy nature wirhout being reminded of this killing game. He glanced off to the side, seeing a dog that oddly resembled his roommate being talked to by Monokuma. "Somehow, I doubt rubbing their bellies would give us anything." he muttered before glancing at the dog that was his roommate, oretending as if Monokuma wasn't even there. He knew better than to try and act against the bear.

"Hey, Frank? Is that you? Can you...not change back or something?" he asked, honestly curious. He hadn't encountered shapeshifters in his world save for those who shifted into monsters. Though there were rumors of some other shapeshifters. But they could usually easily turn back. Was something stopping Frank from reverting to normal?

SOPHIE WALTEN
Zenterfold Zenterfold Xeppy Xeppy @MusicVenue

Sophie turned around to see Pinkie, taking the paper in her hand and looking at the drawing. It wasn't the best, obviously, but Sophie could make out what it was.

Sophie muttered a small thanks to Pinkie and sat down on the plush velvet couch, staring at her card with an intense look. Pinkie may not have noticed it at first, but a small, faint smile tugged at the girl's mouth.

She tucked it in one of her pockets, before going up to the stage and inspecting the grand piano, giving a quiet wave to Clementine.

"Hey," she said, before doing something… very uncharacteristic of her… she cracked a small joke.

"Wanna see how many keys I can press until that stupid bear shows up?" she said, the smile becoming wider.

She sat at the piano, thinking of a song before pressing keys. If anyone were familiar with classical rock, they would recognize it as Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall, although very poorly done, and it was almost barely recognizeable.

Although she may not say it, she feels comfortable around Pinkie and, to a lesser extent, Clementine. It would be better if Atsushi, or Wanda, or Usagi were here, but alas they weren't.

And… partially… it was to cheer Pinkie up. She cared for her, more than she wanted to admit, truly. She lost everyone she’s ever loved, yet she still wants to be there for Pinkie.

The other part was just to see what happened.

Icee Icee @ others

Louise was first to answer the text.

I'm in the Cafe right now, but I can see how that'd be a bad idea in light of recent events. The main area has food too, at the concessions, so that'd be a good place too - although I personally wouldn't choose ballpark food for breakfast. But it's something. - L. Worth

She set down the device again. She was taking her time with her drink. If time meant more deaths, she was in no hurry to make it quicken its pace. She wondered if the others could see her. What would they say? Would anyone be worried about her, or would Mark be more upset by one of his performers getting spirited away with no warning?

Frank Zhang

Unfortunately, Frank wouldn't be able to receive Claude, or anyone elses message. Anything on his person, when he shapeshifted, sort of meshed into him.

---------

Wow..... This was nice. Frank had to wonder if the sun was actually real, or fake. Either way, the quiet space was soothing. He would have gone and taken a nap, if a certain bear hadn't decided to show up.

He nearly jumped a foot in the air. Mars and Ares returned once more, but he managed to wrangle them down somewhat. Rub the statues bellies? Frank flashedback to his Grandmother, who told him about rubbing a Buddas belly for luck and prosperity. If he rubbed one of those statues bellies though, he would probably have horrible misfortune and death. Frank was spared from his Budda thoughts however, as Claude started to speak to him
"Somehow, I doubt rubbing their bellies would give us anything." he muttered before glancing at the dog that was his roommate, oretending as if Monokuma wasn't even there. He knew better than to try and act against the bear.

Two nods came from the bulldog. Although Frank might have been hesitant to explain his screaming dad, he couldn't communicate that even if he wanted to.

Besides, all he wanted to do was sleep.

Going to the middle of the sandpit, Frank laid down and closed his eyes, attempting to sleep. Seemed that this Bulldog was done talking.

Wanda slept like a baby the night after the trail. As much anger and sadness, she held in her heart, she knew she couldn't hold onto it. Wanda was already carrying a lot emotional baggage, no need for anymore. Waking up before most people, Wanda did her morning routine. Yoga, meditation, jogging , than a shower. Spending a good time doing her make up and picking the right outfit, some might say that was shallow, but when you look your best, you do your best. Going into her wardrobe, the witch realized something; her hole wardrobe from her home was in here! All of it! It was nice, but also slightly upsetting. How powerful was the person behind this? Apparently very.

Grabbing an old, large, designer bag Wanda's old friend Jan gave her, the witch put a few important things in there.

1647626271777.png

Wanda explored for a bit, her mind drifting to Usagi, Atsushi, Sophie, but Pinkie reigned in her mind. The two girls had something in common, they both represented an Element of magic. Pinkie was laughter, Wanda was Chaos. Chaos is, in a way, the line between laughter and despair. Poetic really, if one things about it. However, Wanda didn't have the time to wax poetically. Getting Pinkie's text, the witch respond. Her gut told her where to go. Pulling out her tablet, Wanda texted Usagi.

"Going to the music venue."

Usagi blinks awake upon hearing the morning wake-up call.

Oh. When did I fall asleep?

She sits up carefully. Runs a hand over her hair, down her neck, across her face — it’s all still there, she’s still here. Nothing about her has been…. visibly altered forever, on the outside at least. She swings her legs off the bed and stands to start pulling the sheets flat. Her face is blank as she works. It’s strange, she thinks. It doesn’t seem right that something so big and horrible and unsolvable could have happened, and the next day, she just… wakes up exactly as usual. Especially for someone whose important life phases are marked by magical transformations and new tiers. This whole experience is beyond surreal.

Come to think of it, she doesn’t remember making it to bed last night. Usagi racks her brain a bit and eventually comes up with a memory made fuzzy around the edges — Wanda-san, voice so gentle as she leans over Usagi and offers words of comfort. Usagi can now recall standing on shaky legs, and practically falling over herself in the attempt to get back to her room before curfew. Well. “Her” room.

Oh, that’s right! Her tablet had buzzed up a storm for a short while after the execution events of last night, but Usagi’s been too out of sorts to check why. Upon clicking the screen-on button, it turns out she’s been bumped up a “rank,” for what it means, and that new rooms have unlocked themselves for exploration. There’s also a message from Wanda-san, noting that she’s in the music venue. Usagi’s face still feels oddly stiff and incapable of making any passable human expressions, but for lack of other direction, she decides to join Wanda-san and whoever else in the music venue. She decides to take a quick shower first in as frigid water as she can stand; it’s worth a shot, even if she steps into a towel and begins brushing out her now-ratty hair feeling just as dull as before. Something inside her brain’s been knocked loose from its proper spot. What could fix it back into realignment, she doesn’t know.

Usagi secures her hair back into its trademark odango, slips on a fresh set of clothing from the drawers in her room. Something comfortable and easy to move in; a pair of thigh-length shorts and a tank top, blanketed by a soft blue jacket.

I feel like I haven’t spoken a lot to any of them recently. I don’t know why; they’re the only proof I have left that we all still have a chance, Usagi thinks to herself, shoes clinking softly on the hallway floor as she makes her way to the music venue. Whatever greater force that’s controlling her must have been feeling lazy recently. Oops.

Dormitories —> Music Venue

She slips quietly through the door to the music venue, and her eyes catch the group already assembled there. Her heart flutters a bit in relief to find Pinkie and Sophie alive and- well, as ‘well’ as one can be. The other girl — Clementine? — Usagi recognizes, but she’s not sure they’ve become acquainted properly yet. No time like the present, she supposes.

“Mn, good morning everyone, Wanda-san,” Usagi says. She tries for a smile, but suspects she doesn’t quite manage. “I hope you all slept okay.”

Stiles "Ultimate Sarcasm" Stilinski

Stiles really didn't sleep well that night. It was one thing to see a dead body, it was another entirely to see them murdered in front of your eyes for playing the game. When he went down, holding his bat, he groaned at the thought of their lives being nothing more than a game. As much as he wanted to interact with the others, he also couldn't know what that might bring. "Okay, you're already not popular, might as well bore the audience and see what is in Extreme sports," he muttered to himself, heading to the extremes sports area.

Music Venue

As soon as Pinkie entered the Music Venue, she immediately ditched her "Let's not focus on anything" attitude and got trapped in the enamour of the room. Her now-sparkling eyes drifted over to felt furniture, the magenta curtains, the wooden stage, and the scenery that overall made the place soft and comfortable, which Pinkie really needed to be in right now. How could any place like this be here? This... this deserved to be somewhere where many people could see it for themselves! Not just the people here! Many more people deserved to be calmed and inside this room! Oh, there was more than the furniture and scenery. There were instruments. Her eyes now attached to the objects on the stage, and her eyes glimmered with interest at the sight. Could she-

Oh, Sophie was looking at her card. Pinkie looked for her reaction at it, searching for any sign of happiness or rejoice. Would she be joyful at the card? Would she like it? Would she accept it? While trying to search for this, nodding at Sophie's thank-you, she was surprised at the intense look Sophie gave it. Did she not like it? Why was she looking at it that way? Did Pinkie not work on it enough? While there could be a variety of explanations for Sophie's intense look, Pinkie was in a very, very negative mindset against herself right now. Even though Sophie was smiling, if even so slightly, Pinkie was wrapped up inside her head, thinking, You can't make good cards. You can't cheer others up. You can't make others smile. You can't comfort others. 'Ultimate Party Planner'? Ha. A joke is that it is-

"Huh."

Pinkie Pie's head shot up towards the stage, where Clementine was, near the grand piano. Pinkie shook her head, taking herself out of her jolted state. Right... Clementine joined them. Was Pinkie really in the state where she would forget others were even there? She shook her head some more, now going onto the big, wooden stage with Clementine and Sophie. Even though she wasn’t the same right now, her eyes still flew across all the instruments, with her giving out a breath of amazement. There was everything here. There were even instruments here that Pinkie didn’t know how to play! Was she allowed to play them-?

“Hey.”

Sophie spoke up suddenly. Pinkie’s eyes went over to her, prepared to hear what she was going to say, but she immediately stopped listening when she saw the smile on her face. Smile. Smile. Smile! The smile only got wider as Sophie kept on talking, now making a joke. What was going on? Was Sophie in a good mood? Was Sophie happy? Was Pinkie’s card or the huge room the cause of this sudden happiness? No matter the reason, Pinkie cheered up considerably at this smile and joke. Even though her hair remained straight, her expression shifted into a small smile. The despair that had been killing her soul now had been replaced with a little bit of hope, all through the smile of one of her friends.

The song Pinkie had sung earlier to Sophie, the song about how all Pinkie needed was a smile to be happy herself? It was all true. She knew smiles couldn’t change how two people died. That it couldn't change how someone died right in front of Pinkie. That it couldn't change that they were all in danger. That it couldn't change how they were trapped, or how despair was in the air. Still, it did change how Pinkie currently felt inside. It changed the pain inside. It changed her- even if for the second- of how she felt in this whole situation.

As Sophie started playing, with the smile on her face, this was enough to make Pinkie widen her smile some more. She placed the crayons, cards, and notebook on the wooden stage somewhere, walking over next to Sophie and Clementine at the grand piano. Although the playing Sophie did was poorly done, Pinkie still stared as Sophie's fingers went across the piano board. Even as her pink tablet rumbled in her pocket, or as the door to the Music Venue room opened and closed, Pinkie's attention was on Sophie's song. She didn't recognize the song- she didn't listen to a lot of rock music in general- but still bobbed her head to it. She didn't really bob her head because of the song, though. She bobbed her head because Sophie was the one playing it.

Pinkie lost herself inside the moment of happiness and obliviousness of the song. The sounds of different keys hitting the board trapped Pinkie. She didn't know if it was just her trying to escape her situation or her really loving music, though. Whatever the reason, Pinkie lost herself in her own little world where it was just her, Clementine, Sophie, and the piano. This little world didn't last long, though.

She got brought back to reality when Wanda touched her shoulder lightly. Pinkie widened her eyes and snapped her head towards her shoulder, although relaxing quickly when she saw it was Wanda. While she was focusing on the piano, she had completely missed out on Wanda's entrance and words. Oops. She gave a wave to Wanda, now looking to see as Usagi entered the room. Sophie, Usagi, Wanda, and Clementine were here. Pinkie almost half expected Atsushi to come walking through the door, but if he was, he certainly wasn't doing it right now.

Seeing both Usagi and Wanda in the same room as her rang some bells inside Pinkie's head, as she made a face of recognition. Their cards! She muttered a small, "Oh," before walking over to her supplies on the ground. She brought and laid out the cards she made, grabbing Wanda's and Usagi's, although looking at Atsushi's with some hesitation. Since he wasn't here right now... how would she give it to him? She... she'll find him later and then give it to him then! Coming to this conclusion, she now walked over to Wanda, hesitantly placing it inside the woman's hand. After she was sure that Wanda would at least accept the card into her possession, Pinkie ran over to Usagi, slowly placing the card inside of her hand. Pinkie looked over her with worrying eyes as she did so, as if asking if she was okay. Nobody was really okay right now, but Pinkie wanted Usagi to be okay. She patted the girl's head, telling her through the gesture that Pinkie was there for her. After doing so, she left the blond-haired to read the card she gave to her and she ran over to Sophie again.

Pinkie seemed more relaxed now that she had delivered most of her cards over to her friends and had most of them in the same room as her. She sat down next to Sophie in front of the piano, clapping her hands together for Sophie's piano performance. Her expression was filled with admiration for Sophie. "Woah. Can I-?"

Ba-BUMP

Right as Pinkie slightly cheered up because of Sophie and her friends, it seemed to disperse. Right as she gave smiles to her loved-ones, everything bad happened again. Her chest hurt again. It hurt. It hurt as much as last night. It hurts so much. It hurt with pain and grief, and these factors seemed to be questioning her actions right now. What was she doing, being happy in this moment? People died. People she knew and saw alive died. Someone died in front of her during the execution. She felt the pulse of a dead body. It was the first bloody, dead bodies Pinkie had seen in her lifetime, and she was acting like nothing had happened? What was wrong with her!? She gripped at her chest again, shaking, looking at the piano board and at Sophie's face.

Speak.

"Can I press keys with you? To see if it'll make him come?" Pinkie attempted to make a mischievous grin after this, as she planned to do before, but with no success. Her lips didn't even twitch. They just stayed still, only moving when she was talking. And Pinkie knew why.

She didn't deserve to smile or be happy after what just happened. She didn't deserve to. But she also knew... that everyone else did. She didn't deserve to be happy, but Sophie did. All her friends did. Pinkie didn't deserve to be happy right now. She knew she didn't.

So far the white-haired teen simply kept his distance with both for varying reasons, one of them being that Tobi had seemed far too interested in the killing game or allying himself with Monokuma. Whether the man could be taken seriously or not, that incident told the white-haired boy to stay away and if need be keep an eye on the man.

He couldn't help but remember something the Orphanage director said to him long before he was kicked out

"Outside, there are monsters that make me appear like a tiny ant. And you will be out there someday. When that time comes, continue to hate me Atsushi. Never hate yourself."

It was almost funny how he found himself stuck in this place with people who, given whatever powers they possessed, did make the man seem like an ant.

Claude easily pieced it together that his roommate couldn't speak in this form and it didn't seem he wanted to speak even if he could. Besdies, in all honesty, the Ultimate Stratigist was not feeling much for conversation. He was usually friendly and social but right now he just wasn't feeling himself. He wanted to beleive that the events of last night were just some horrible nightmare. That all of this at all was some horrible njght.are and he was going to be awakened by Byleth at any moment, scolding him for oversleeping. However, he also knew that this was reality and he had to face it. Two people were truly gone. The remaining 30 of them just moved up a level in a game, waiting for the next victim to appear so they could rinse and repeast this all over again. There was no saving everyone. This was their reality. As much as he never wanted to beleive it, the more he stayed here and saw reminders of Monokuma and the fanfare that this game was about, the more he was losing his grasp on hope. It was a new feeling for him. And he didn't like it. Not one bit. Despair was one feeling that he never felt before....
He glanced at his device when it lit up with a text from Louise, saying where she was and bringing some suggestions. Somehow, she was the only one who answered his text. Did everyone else just...not care? Or did they all really think he was just the type to plot murders? He thought back to all those fingers pointed to him at the Class Trial. Was that what they all thought? Maybe that was why no one else could be bothered to answer. Honestly this just added to the despair in the archer's mind. Sighing, he decided to answer Louise. At least she had bothered to answer. That counted for something.

* I don't know. The resteraunt is now overrun by Monokuma waiters and cooks so I don't know that it'd be wise to meet there anymore. Honestly there's almost nowhere that doesn't have a Monokuma that might be listening on us.

He paused before deciding to add another sentence:

* I think I'll meet you in the Cafe. Are you going to be there for a bit? I stopped by the Zen Garden for a bit to try and calm down some but I don't mind coming to meet you at the cafe.

He didn't really want to revisit the crime scene. But maybe spending some time with someone who seemed to beleive in him enough to at least answer his messages might help clear his head.

utumuki.pngDoubtlessly, it was a long night for the entirety of the strange group occupying Room J. Marie couldn't speak for her friends(though the odd silence made her think they were in a similar boat), but the day had taken everything out of her. After she'd collapsed atop Cater, her small form clinging to him like her life depended on it, everything had become a blur. She completely failed to realize how embarrassed and distressed she was making her companion, though she very vaguely registered his rapid heartbeat as her tearstained face buried against his chest. It seemed like the only thing she could hear. She tried not to think about how, in another time, her touch would've stopped that steady beating in an instant.

"..."

It made her feel like she could throw up. The suffocating feeling and nausea faded in time, washed away by the tide of sleep. It would've been nice to stay this way awhile longer, but it felt like her bout of slumber had come and gone in an instant, a sudden jolt beneath her startling her awake. With the haze of sleep and yesterday's sorrows still on her mind, she had honestly forgotten where she was. "...Oh." The events of last night beyond the trial were a blur, so it was a slight surprise to wake up in Cater's arms, with Nana and Shinoa not far off and Yumeko across the room. That wasn't to say it was an unpleasant surprise, though; as she surveyed her surroundings, she couldn't help but feel relieved. This kind of moment... this was what she wanted. Something normal and mundane, but safe and secure. For warmth to greet her as she woke. To be surrounded by familiar faces that she knew and cared for. If she could spend an eternity in this moment, she gladly would.

Fate did not bestow that kindness upon her.

No sooner than a tired smile had formed on her lips and a soft "Good morning" escaped her, Cater was saying they had to go. The morning meeting had indeed become a ritual for them, and it was one that she enjoyed. But she felt a little disappointed by the notion of letting go of her source of warmth and comfort. But despite her mild dismay, she obliged, easily rolling off of him when he pushed her, her smile slowly fading away as her mind began to clear.

"Are... you alright?" she wondered, her forehead creasing with concern. His voice sounded strained, and his typically bright eyes seemed just a little dimmer than she remembered. Not that she could blame him. After what had happened yesterday, she wasn't exactly feeling too hot, herself, though she at least wasn't as inconsolable and despondent as before. Just... tired. Feeling was exhausting.

Speaking of which, maybe that was what seemed off about Cater. "Did you rest okay?" Was exhaustion the cause for his dimmed spark? If so, that was odd. She herself couldn't recall ever sleeping as well as she did with her unwitting cuddle buddy, so wouldn't the same have gone for him? She racked her brain for answers, eventually managing to draw a conclusion that caused her to straighten up with determination. "Ah-- You're hungry, aren't you? You all never got to eat yesterday..."

sinpai_bk.pngIncorrect conclusion in mind, Marie had a decision to make. The conflict inside of her was still going strong, weighing heavily on her mind and chest. For the first time since getting here, she was absolutely certain that this pain belonged to her. And she knew now that she deserved it. If good people like Ren, Nana, Clementine and Cater all had to bear the weight of such sorrow, then someone like her had no excuse not to as well. How many lives had she taken? How many people's loved ones had she ripped away--

Her hands clenched into fists. The pain in her eyes was apparent, but she did her best to fight it down. If Ren were in her shoes, he would be brave; he would put all of these horrible feelings aside and do what he could to make things better, because that was the kind of person he was. Marie... wanted to be that kind of person, too. She wanted to stop taking and start giving. To nourish rather than deplete. To foster love, not hate. To be someone who could truly contribute something to someone, even if it was just one person. Even if it was only once, and it ended with her own existence fading away.

"Let's go," she proposed, forcibly mustered determination thinly veiling her fragile feelings. If Nana and Shinoa hadn't gotten up yet, she moved to gently shake them awake, still entirely oblivious to the pain she unintentionally inflicted with her accursed touch. "Come on. You all need food. You, too- um..." What was that other girl's name? Marie couldn't remember ever receiving it. "...Cater's friend." Nailed it. Sorry Yumeko.

Once everyone was rounded up, Marie did all she could to keep her brave face on. She would be strong; if not for herself, then for these people who had done the same for her. She had told them she wanted them to rely on her; that hadn't changed. So she needed to become someone they could rely on, even if it was hard and scary and painful. So when they arrived in the restaurant only to find a sea of Monokumas, the blonde did her best not to tremble at the reminder. The sight of the life slowly draining from Menma's eyes was too fresh in her mind, accompanied by the symphony of punches meeting flesh and heartbroken screams.

She wanted it to stop. She wanted to drop everything and leave.

Instead, her hands balled into fists, her lips wavering only slightly. She wouldn't crumble here. "...You should all find a place to sit. I'll get you food, so don't worry about it, okay?" Weakly, she flashed them a smile, doing her best to be reassuring. "Maybe we can, um... find somewhere else to eat, even." She hadn't checked her tablet at all to realize Claude had texted the group or that the software had updated, too caught up in the whirlwind of emotion that had overtaken her. She once again forgot to text Frank as well, but that part probably worked out since he was a dog, anyway. Hopefully, while she nervously went to intercept some food from one of the Monokuma's, someone else in the group would notice the messages.

Sera has watched rather nonplussed on at the murder of Menma. Not because she had grown numb to gruesome death, though perhaps it was part of it, but the main part was that she had figured out why they were there. This was all about the bear and his pleasures. Every death that would happen here was on it and nobody else. With that she shrugged to herself and went to bed.

In the morning as Sera woke up she rather hastily got dressed and out of her bed. It was time to do some investigation! She stopped at the door of the music venue when she heard a familiar voice talk inside.

View attachment 967963

Wanda explored for a bit, her mind drifting to Usagi, Atsushi, Sophie, but Pinkie reigned in her mind. The two girls had something in common, they both represented an Element of magic. Pinkie was laughter, Wanda was Chaos. Chaos is, in a way, the line between laughter and despair. Poetic really, if one things about it. However, Wanda didn't have the time to wax poetically. Getting Pinkie's text, the witch respond. Her gut told her where to go. Pulling out her tablet, Wanda texted Usagi.

"Going to the music venue."

"Good morning Sohpie, Pinkie. And Clematine, right? I'm Wanda. "

Joining the three girls, Wanda's hand lightly touched Pinkie's shoulder as she passed. Examining the room, Wanda looked for anything interesting .

Cater Diamond

Cater wanted to stay there forever. He wanted the little sleepover to not stop and to go back to bed…with Marie. Damn that felt odd to admit, even in his own head. But it wasn’t like that! It was just, two friends who bonded in a killing game needing some comfort.

His mind was cleared when he heard Marie’s soft voice. "Are…are you alright?” That was a loaded question, and one even he wouldn’t be able to find an answer to. Alright enough, he supposed. “Did you rest okay?” Now that had a sure answer- no. But he wasn’t about to tell Marie that, knowing it was probably her fault. The best he managed was a glance at Marie and a little nod and smile.

"Ah-- You're hungry, aren't you? You all never got to eat yesterday..." Well that certainly added to everything. He wasn’t used to not eating for so long.

"Let's go, Come on. You all need food. You, too- um... Cater's friend." Marie’s voice pulled him to his feet. He let out a big sigh and began getting ready. It was weird how she phrased it. ‘You all’. Not her too? He shrugged it off as simply Marie things.

They all went down to the restaurant at Marie’s request. It wasn’t until arriving he realized it seemed the usual meeting wasn’t happening. Or had it already happened? He hadn’t bothered to look at the time. The mass of Monokumas running around with food startled him- they weren’t there before, why now? Was Monokuma taking pity on them for a day? Like serving breakfast in bed to someone sick. We don’t need your pity, Monokuma. Although the outfits they wore were kinda cute.

"...You should all find a place to sit. I'll get you food, so don't worry about it, okay? Maybe we can, um... find somewhere else to eat, even." Marie was being incredibly strong. He could tell. Something in her changed yesterday, at Menma’s execution. She hadn’t seemed scared of death at all, but during the execution she trembled. She was scared. But now she was back to being strong again. And she was the one doing the talking! Up until now Marie had simply been following the other around but once Trixie died, the tables were turned.

Despite the Monokuma’s making things worse and the prospect of not having a meeting, Cater was starting to return to normal. Maybe he was just waking up at the smell of fresh food?

“Kk, Mar! Come on ladies, let’s go sit for a sec!” He began to shoe the others away and when he was sure they were leaving he turned to Marie and whispered. “I see what you’re doing, and it’s working. Thank you.” He flashed her a quick smile and followed the others to the table.

Once he sat down he instinctively pulled out his phone for something to do. He also hadn’t checked his messages all morning, something he was very not used to. His phone was always the first thing he grabbed in the morning.

He checked his messages first. One from Claude about the meeting. Nothing from his messaging buddy Usagi.

He promptly responded to Claude.

FR the Mo-kus are mad creepy. we’re in here rn and its just weird. where else could we even go for the meeting? (also srry for late response i was distracted by marie lol)

He hit send immediately, completely oblivious to how confusing that last part must be to anyone else. He never proofread messages before sending. Bad habit.

He then shot a text to Usagi. He was really worried after her breakdown yesterday. He wasn’t sure if he’d even respond but he figured he’d try anyway.

heyyy usa. idk if youll see this but i hope ur doin ok! <3

Messages: done. Now what else was there… a rank app? He opened it to find literal popularity stats. Based on audience survey, he presumed? He was used to stats like this. He found his name quickly. There he sat in slot number five, tied with Shinobu. Pretty much the same as usual back home. He scanned it for his other friends. And then he noticed something. A certain name in a certain spot. “MARIE, YOU’RE NUMBER ONE! YEAH POP OFF QUEEN!”

He shouted to Marie, forgetting she probably didn’t know what the hell he was talking about (of course, did she ever really? Cater said the weirdest things, always)

Claude looked back at his device when it went off with another text. Seems Cater also replied. It made him feel at least a little better that two people decided to answer him. He still figured that the others were either busy or didn't beleive in him enough to be bothered to answer his message. It still hurt to know so many thought of him as the type to have murdered Trixie. But he pushed those thoughts to the side as he decided to answer Louise first

* It feels nice to know that someone trusts me. With so many fingers pointed at me during the trial, I'm not really sure how many people really beleive in me anymore.... Anyway, I'll be on my way. Cater answered my message too so I might see if he can come too.

He then answered Cater's message:

* Oh it's fine. I can tell you two are pretty close. I'm going to the cafe now. Maybe we can meet there and think of something in person? I don't mind if you bring Marie either. I trust you two.

That part wasn't a lie. So far Claude hasn't found a reason to suspect Cater or Marie. They both seemed like genuinely nice people. He didn't get any vibes that they were out to kill anyone. If anything they might be looking to save everyone like he was. At least this was what he hoped. Usually his sense of intuition was right. For now, the archer began making his way toward the Cafe to meet Louise, taking a shaky breath as he prepared himself to face the crime scene once more.

Louise looked up at Claude as he entered the Cafe, managing a small, awkward smile. She looked exhausted - then again, she had the previous morning too. She took a small sip of her coffee. "Hey. Uh, how are you? I mean - besides -" Besides everything , obviously. How are you supposed to be after witnessing someone die the night before?

Usagi starts a bit when Pinkie places the card in her hand, as if she expected the world around her to move in the same slow-motion she felt like she was wading through. She catches Pinkie’s hand and gently squeezes her fingers back before letting go; thank you, she mouths. She means: we’re okay. Okay?

She looks down at the card in her hand. For whatever reason, her eyes immediately begin to well with tears. It’s- it’s just so… good. This is so good, and she doesn’t know why she’s even crying over such a good thing, until she catches herself thinking I was worried good things weren’t allowed to happen anymore and then she thinks, ah.

Usagi lifts the card with gentle, so gentle fingers, tucks it into the inside of her coat, snug against her heart. As soon as she’s zipped it up safe, she presses her hand against her chest from the outside of her coat, like she’s trying to press all the love contained within the card back into herself.

Her tablet buzzes against her hip. A message from Cater.

heyyy usa. idk if youll see this but i hope ur doin ok! <3

She’d forgotten about their messaging buddies in the shuffle. A little smile works its way onto Usagi’s face upon reading the message. She sniffles, uses the side of her index fingers to swipe away errant tears. Taps a message back:

hi cater <3 thank u. i hope youre ok too. be safe . message me if youre in trouble <3

Usagi takes a deep breath. The wobbling feeling in her chest is mostly gone now. This can be enough, she thinks. This can be enough for now. Day by day. Moment by moment. With the people she wants to protect.

awate.pngDefinite red flags popped up in Marie's mind the longer Cater was silent. Nana and Shinoa's talkativeness came in waves so far as she could tell, but it was incredibly rare for the redhead to go quiet for long periods of time. Despite the smile and nod he'd given in response to her question, she wasn't sure she was fully convinced. But all the same, it wasn't as though she could magically whisk away any and all negative feelings he had. She would just have to do the best she could to be a pillar for him and the others to lean on. Maybe rounding them all up and getting them some food would at least be a start.

I want to be the best I can for you.

Once everyone was ready and they'd made it to the restaurant, the young blonde had fully immersed herself in her determination. No matter how she felt inside, she was going to be there for the people who needed her. So when Cater helped the rest of the group along to a table, pausing to tell her that her efforts were working, she couldn't help but feel a small surge of happiness despite the all-consuming despair that had been brewing since yesterday evening. It was a momentary spark, sure, but it was enough to earn a small trace of a smile. "I'm glad," she returned, softly. "And... thank you, as well. For letting me sleep with you. I... really needed it, after everything." With a slight bow of her head and that easily misinterpreted sentence in the air, its alternate meaning entirely lost on her, she was off to get the group some food.

Though it took some effort, she eventually returned to her friends with food in tow, hauling as much as she could secure from the Monokumas. She hoped what she got would be enough for the group. As she meandered back with their meal, Cater's abrupt bout of yelling nearly startled her into dropping her haul, a yelp of surprise escaping her. Fortunately though, she managed to right herself and save her grip at the last second, though she still appeared a bit panicked. "H-huh? Pop off...? ...D-did one of the stuffed creatures explode again???" she squeaked, glancing around frantically. Or maybe that wasn't it? He had mentioned a queen... Oh no. What if that meant one of the participants was royalty, and they had popped??? No conclusion she could gather from his words was good.

"And... thank you, as well. For letting me sleep with you. I... really needed it, after everything."

It wasn’t until he sat down at the table that he registered that sentence. He figured she obviously didn’t know what she said but oh lord his cheeks were on fire now. Still, he appreciated the sentiment. It was no problem to him as well of course.

Cater got two responses to his texts while he waited for food. The first was from Claude.

Oh it's fine. I can tell you two are pretty close. I'm going to the cafe now. Maybe we can meet there and think of something in person? I don't mind if you bring Marie either. I trust you two.

He supposed the best course of action would be to not keep Claude waiting. They needed some place else to eat anyway. But by the way he phrased the message it seemed like it would be best if him and Marie went alone. He didn’t really like the idea of splitting off from their squad, but it was only for a little while. It was understandable that Claude may mot want to put faith in everyone just yet. He felt honored that he was trustworthy in his eyes.

Totes! were gonna get food now and we can bring it there. we can bring some for you too!

And then for Usagi.

hi cater <3 thank u. i hope youre ok too. be safe . message me if youre in trouble <3

He shot her a simple “will do!” Before putting away his phone. He would have absolutely been scolded for having it out at the table back home.

"H-huh? Pop off...? ...D-did one of the stuffed creatures explode again???"

He hadn’t noticed Marie got back to the table, hence why he was yelling to her. He whipped around in his seat to face her. With her confused expression he immediately understood and knew what he had to do.

“Okay let me explain, so-“

He pulled out his phone again and opened the rank app, promptly holding it to Marie’s face.

“They added a rank app. Basically it’s how much the audience likes us. And you’re at the top! They love you Marie!”

He was so excited he almost forgot the other thing he needed to explain.

“Oh right and popping off basically means that you did something really good that’s like really exceptional. So here you’re popping off because you’re winning over the hearts of the people!”

He put his hand on his heart dramatically.
IMG_0203.png
“And Queen? Well, that’s you, you’re like my Queen~”

He said it so nonchalantly, like it was obvious. He smiled to her, then simply turned back to the table to look at the food she scored.

“Hey you girls mind if Marie and I take a little walk with our food? We’ll meet up again later, Kay?” He didn’t wait for a response as he began packing up some food and walking out, holding his hand out as an invitation for Marie to take it. He didn’t even need to ask, he just assumed she would join him. They made a promise after all. He also wasn’t sure why he reached for her hand when he knew he’d have to drop it anyway.

Cafe

It didn't take long for Claude to reach the cafeteria. He glanced toward the coffee machine, seeing that it was oddly cleaned up. It was almost as if there was no crime at all committed on it. If it wasn't for the horrible memories in all of their heads and the two greyed out pictures in the profile lists, one might think that everything of yesterday was just some horrible nigjtmare. Monokuma probably made a fresh coffee machine appear with whatever high powers he had.
He spotted Louise at a table and moved to sit down next to her. He didn't seem as energetic as he usually was. To be exepeted given what happened yesterday. No one here was quite themselves.
"For some reason, only Cater has answered my message besides you. Probably because they really don't beleive in me or are too worked up to bother. But we really need a new headcount system if Clem isn't going to do resteraunt meetings." the Ultimate Stratigist said, glancing at his device. "I know a lot happened yesterday but we still have to make sure that we're accounting for each other and making sure we don't have another body to look for..."
It felt like seeing another body was inevidable at this point. Were they truly doomed? Was this really their reality like Monokuma said? He couldn't beleive it. He refused to beleive it. But in All this darkness it was hard to hold onto light. Yet he had to find a way. Without that little shred of hope, there's nothing but despair...

He glanced back toward his device when it lit up, notifying of another text from Cater. He went ahead and answered it:

* I managed to get breakfast earlier. It didn't seem like those Monokumas did anything fishy with the food. And I know quite well what poisoned food is like. See you guys soon.

He couldn't help but crack a smile as he remembered making poisons and sometimes playfully putting them in food. He never caused any serious harm to anyone when he did. Just some major discomforts. It was sometimes funny to see someone get all worked up about it. He wondered if he would ever get back to the people he knew back home. No. He had to get back. They all had to get back. Somehow...

"I... had a friend - a politician, and a good leader. And even he told me sometimes you can't control everything. I say - we could continue to host meetings, but - we can't force everyone to do the right thing. We just have to keep as many people safe as we can. Maybe larger - groups. For more safety. And we focus on either finding a way out, or - finding a way to disrupt the program..."

She fell silent, fiddling with her coffee mug. "They can't make us play damsel if they can't run a show - in the first place. Ways to mess things up without breaking the rules."

It was more than a little startling when Cater abruptly whipped around to face her, but given that she was already high on alert, she fortunately didn't lose her grip on her haul. She just clutched the tray a little tighter, blinking with surprise before slowly relaxing once she realized there apparently wasn't any imminent danger or disaster. Reassured by how relaxed Cater seemed about whatever this whole popping ordeal was, she managed to calm down enough to set the food on the table, though having the phone shoved in her face did prompt her to flinch. She still wasn't all that familiar or comfortable with the technology, but at least it still hadn't exploded.

Unfortunately, though, she still couldn't read. So she really had no clue what the significance of the strange bars with odd writing on the screen were supposed to signify. At least, not until her friend began to explain. "Rank...?" she repeated. Audience... That meant the terrifying stadium of people who had been screaming their lungs out yesterday, didn't it? She managed to follow his meaning up until about that point, but shortly after, he totally lost her. "...Huh?" Her brows furrowed, a small frown forming on her face following momentary surprise in the face of his declaration. She shook her head, slow and uncertain. "I don't think I get it. Don't you think it's a mistake?" Nobody loved a child damned from birth. The only person who had was Cagliostro, and she was no longer certain his love was a good thing. Someone like Cater, Nana or Shinoa would be better suited. Or perhaps that girl with the pink hair? It had seemed like everyone flocked to her frequently. Compared to everyone else here, Marie was nothing; the app was likely just broken. Her 'popping off', as Cater had put it, was definitely just a fluke.

For some reason, the more she thought about it, the sicker she felt. She quickly decided she didn't want to stew on this matter any longer. So in that regard, Cater's out of the blue declaration that she was like his queen came at the perfect time. Only, the offhanded declaration brought an unexpected memory with it.

Upon the golden beach of Saint-Malo, there stood an unlikely pair. Framed by the gentle rays of the setting sun with only the waves to keep them company, a man cloaked in shadow conversed with a maiden most fair. His smile shielded a thousand secrets, but she met his gaze in earnest, her own expression that of utter sincerity. It was as though two contradicting elements- darkness and light- had converged in the land of dusk. But surely there was no domain in this world or the next more fitting for such a meeting.
"You speak in riddles, Cagliostro," she had sighed with a voice as light as a songbird's. He'd beseeched her to indulge him as a guest of honor, explaining that the opera he wished her to take part in would be grander than even the work he'd presented to Her Ladyship the queen, herself. It left the peasant girl at a total loss. Though perhaps that wasn't a surprise; all the things her cryptic companion said seemed to do so. But even bearing that in mind... "You know I'm not a queen, don't you?"
"But of course," he'd answered without hesitation. His smooth tongue seldom faltered; though, if anyone could make it do so, it was her. "You are far more exquisite. Even as I glance back upon my countless years of travel, I've yet to encounter a beauty to eclipse yours."
"Even though no one has ever said anything like that to me?"
"Indeed. That is precisely why."

Momentarily, her mind stalled. "That's..." What was she supposed to say to that? "That isn't how it is," she eventually settled, "I'm not anything like that. I'm just... me." She didn't even know if that was true. What if all she was turned out to be Ren's shadow? Could she even claim to be her own person? Did the answer even matter, given that she might not even make it out of here alive? She felt like she might slip and fall into the cracks of despair again, but the sudden request to leave gave her enough of a reality check to keep herself in the moment. He wanted to go on a walk with just her? Why?

"Wait," she softly urged as he abruptly got up, glancing between him and their other friends with a hint of nervousness. Awkwardly, she shuffled her feet. "Will, um... will you all... be okay?" In the past, she would've gone ahead with her partner in an instant without much concern, if any at all. But now, she couldn't help but want to check in before wandering off.
