War. War never changes
These are the key words of the Fallout game series. The games follow a character around a post-nuclear Raygun Gothic USA. The player receives total freedom to do whatever is desired. This franchise was a successor to the previous Wasteland franchise, of which the developers, Black Isle, had worked on previously. With the first Fallout game, released in 1997, receiving high praise, and so a sequel quickly followed one year later, which many believe to be bigger and better than the previous in every way. This was followed by a spin-off in 2001, about one of the series's trademark factions, the Brotherhood of Steel.
However, this is the point where things begin to get bleak. In 2004, after cranking out one last bomb of a Fallout game, Interplay, the parent company of Black Isle, went bankrupt and shut down., As a saving throw for the franchise, they gave all rights to Bethesda, best known for their Elder Scrolls franchise. Bethesda made four games with this new franchise: Fallout 3, in 2008, New Vegas, in 2010, Fallout 4, in 2015, and Fallout: Ronto, in 2019. They also made a mobile game about the franchise, named Fallout Shelter, as well as remakes of the original two game in 2017 and 18, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the franchise.
However, as Bethesda continues to pioneer the franchise, deep in the internet, the champions of classic Fallout are mad. The forum known as No Mutants Allowed is in rage at what they claim to be a "Destruction of the Fallout everyone knew and loved". Although now they are currently quiet, save a few attempted attacks on game conventions by intoxicated individuals, they are building virtual influence, and waiting for a time to strike.
Finally, the time arrives. At E3 2022, one year after the release of the Virgin Omni, a new revolutionary console, which places the player in a REM-induced trance, Bethesda takes the stage with three new games: The Elder Scrolls VII, the long awaited Prey 2, and, to the cheers of many in the audience, a brand new Fallout adventure for the Omni, which they acquired the rights to ten years ago, but only started work in 2020, named Fallout Online.
Online response is quick and plentiful in both good and bad. As hype spreads throughout the internet once again, the people over at No Mutant Allowed smirk with anticipation. This has been what they have been waiting for this entire time. Word spreads throughout the forum, to buy the game on launch day, then meet at a certain spot in-game. A plan is beginning to form, as the lead moderator preorders his copy, and prepares to begin a hostile takeover of virtual proportions...
As release day arrives, game stores around the world are teeming with purchases of Omnis and copies of the new Fallout alike. As player boot up their new game for the first time, and plug themselves into the servers, little do they know that they are about to embark on one of the biggest wars the online world has ever seen
And war, war never changes...
All players will be starting in a Vault in upstate New York, with some sort of low-mid tier weapon. From there, you are free to do whatever.
