Fallen (Horinde and Raven)

Patch sighed, leaning against the wall of the reform school, smoking a stolen cigarette. It was early in the morning, and no one was around at the moment. It was a cool morning; it had rained the night before, so it was slightly humid, but he didn't mind. He watched the smoke from the cigarette mix with the fog, sighing softly. It had been seventeen years since she last died, which meant that he was supposed to run into her at some point. But with him confined to the school grounds, he was pretty sure that was impossible.

Jane had just attended a reform school with the name: "Celestial High" She snorted. What a silly, annoying and utter superstitious name it was indeed! Just seventeen years old she only had one year left to complete High School to attend for University, but she switched schools because of her Dad's new job. The town, some remote village with only 8000 citizens, was anything but extrodinary. She hoped moving would lead to adventure and change. Well, she felt dissapointed with this "change".

"Let's go the parking lot, Jane." a friend of hers, Jackie, suggested. Jane complied, happy to be freed from her boring thoughts. The girls walked over to the parking lot: a place outside the old building where you could easily chat without being overheard, because most of the students took a break between classes in the schoolyard.

Patch glanced to the side and saw a familiar form walking towards the parking lot by the old building. "Bloody hell," he muttered, dropping his cigarette butt and mashing it into the ground. He sighed heavily and watched her from the shadow cast by the building he was leaning against, wishing she hadn't shown up here.

"How did she even fine me," he muttered, but he knew the answer. It was fate, again. Or more correctly, it was their curse that had been cast upon them when they chose love over heaven or hell.

Jane - who could've seen a tall guy leaning against the wall with a cigarette in his mouth - was totally oblivious for what was happening around her when her friend suddenly grabbed her wrist.

'He Jane, let's do something hilarious, don't you think? Shit has been as boring as hell nowadays!' Jackie's eyes twinkled with excitement. She always looked so sweet with her brown hazel eyes, but she was anything but sweet, Jane knew. In fact, Jackie always persuaded Jane to do even more stupid or dangerous things. And Jane welcomed her initiatives.

'So?' Jane sighed, acting like she felt tired by Jackie, but her smile told otherwise. Jackie made her feel alive again.

'Let's climb this wall!-'

'No Jackie, nono, that's insane, you can't, what if we are caught?'

'Jane, you thought last time we jumped into that river while playing truant we could die, and we made it, so I think you exaggerate again."

Jane thought for a moment. Hm,, well, they did almost drown! Had Jackie forgotten the locals came to their rescue? Well, they didn't look like locals, but that wasn't important right now.

'Hm, and what? What after climbing?'

'Than we get to see the view and we can escape the premises. We haven't tried climbing before, we always sneeked out during nighttime with the key we stole, you remember?'

Patch listened to their conversation, rolling his eyes slightly. She always seemed to make friends with the kind of people that would get her into major trouble. He didn't interrupt their conversation just yet, only planning to intrude if they were going to be stupid and do something dangerous.

'Yes, but that's the point Jackie!' Jane interrupted her impatient. 'I would love to escape this boring day and just make some fun outside, but they keep us on watch, you know that. They knew we didn't just accidentally find that key, and when they discovered the key in your room they felt suspicous. So if we do something like this, we have to be sure no one is looking and there is no evidence at all.'

Jackie sighed. 'Damn....' The girls seemed for a little moment to return to classes, but Jane remembered one thing. 'The fire alarm. We can ring the fire alarm and take a run for it. There will be so much chaos no one is gonna notice for real. And, if they see us climbing the fence, they might think we escape in case we got burned or there is any danger.'

Jackie laughed and the girls did just as they planned. Jackie found a stone and pressed the alarm.

Patch sighed, they were new here so it was impossible for them to realize that there was no way for them to escape. The school was made so no one would escape. The school was surrounded with fence topped with barbed wire. It was more of a prison than a school.

He decided to follow behind them, just in case.

Immediately Jane helped Jackie to stand on her hands and pushed her up, so Jackie could throw herself on top of the massive fence made of stone. The barbed wire could be avoided because she wasn't that tall, but she had to be careful. It took Jackie some effort and now Jane had to follow without any help. She grinned like crazy. Such an excitement, doing something illegal! :)

She found a car and climbed onto the car, which was parked besides the fence. Now she only had to jump a little to make it. Jackie extended her arms and tried to cheer her on.

"What the hell are you doing?" Patch asked, an unlit cigarette hanging from his mouth. "There's barbed wire. You're going to hurt yourself."

Fuck! Somebody noticed!

In shock - because Jane and Jackie hadn't heard someone approaching - Jane stopped herself from jumping. She didn't know what she saw, to be honest.

This guy.... he quite made an impression....well yeah...

'Jane!" Jackie urged. 'Hurry up stupid! They gonna leave the building because of the alarm, and you stand on the car for everyone to see!'

'Well, we are already discovered!' Jane answered, not knowing what to do. Well, she did. This guy had no reason at all to tell her what to do.

'Sorry, I don't know your name, but you can't tell me what to do. I am leaving this place if I want.' Jane defied him, and she stuck out her tongue teasing him. 'Barbed wire? My friend managed to climb up, so it won't be a problem. You've seen us, so you can report it to the officials here, I don't mind. You were also not permitted to be here, if you had class.'

And Jane jumped. She threw herself and the adrenaline gave her courage. She managed to cross without hurting herself! Now she stood next to Jackie, both girls excited. Well, they felt excited till suddenly Jackie lost her balance on top of the fence.

'Jackie!' Jane yelled, fearing the worst, so she grabbed her friend before she hit the wire. Jackie was very lucky Jane did this; she could have easily fallen. 'You stupid. Let's move on while we can.' Jane walked a bit to the left, trying to find a landing spot so they could escape.

Patch rolled his eyes as the motion detectors went off, and a loud alarm sounded. "I tried to warn you." He muttered, walking off. Guards ran out, surrounding the two girls.

Jane felt bad for the guy. He got into trouble because the guards would think of him as an accomplice.

Jackie jumped out of side and landed safely. The guards hadn't seen her escape because she went first. Jane hesitated.

The guards walked up to the strange guy and seemed to arrest him for pressing the fire alarm.... This felt wrong. He hadn't done anything wrong....

'No, stop!' Jane had jumped down. Her ankle however, protested, and for a moment she thought she sprained it, but her adrenaline kept her going.

'Wait! Let me speak. This guy has nothing to do with the alarm. The fault is mine.' She spoke for herself, hoping Jackie would make it back inside the premises, so they would think Jane was the only one to blame.

'My name is Jane Evergreen, new student since September... I pressed the button.'

"It's fine. It was me," patch replied, not really wanting to get her in trouble. It didn't matter to him if he got in trouble. The guards glared at her, believing her instead of him because they looked like they were trying to escape. They grabbed her, and a couple went after her friend. They pulled them over to the principle, who was waiting outside with the rest of the students and teachers.

Jane obeyed and tried not to make things worse. When the guards pulled her she stared the nameless guy in the eyes.

Jackie and Jane stood before the principle, their faces pale.

"Hm, I want to say something to you first, young men," the principle spoke with a low voice to Patch. "It seems you tried to stop one of those girls from making a big mistake. That mistake is climbing over this security fence; punishment will be Jackie being expelled from this bording school for a full month."

Jane gasped. No no no.... she didnt dare to look at her friend, who must be in shock. Before Jackie knew what had just been decided she had to pack her bags and was escorted to the gate.

"This is to show every student in Celestial High that impudent behavior wont be tolerated. Jane Evergreen will be punished as well, but she confessed so she will not have to leave for now. " the Headmaster smiled a halfhearted smile. "I ask our honour student of the year to discipline Miss Evergreen. He shall be her mentor for the upcoming month, so she will listen to our rules for once and for all. Thats all, now you are dismissed."

Our student of honour? Who might that be?

Patch shrugged, "I tried to warn you," He said, as the rest of the class was ushered into the school and back to whatever they were doing previous to the alarm being rung. Then he walked away, pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his back pocket. He didn't really have anything to say to her. He couldn't get lose to her again unless he wanted to watch her die. So he walked back over to the corner where he had been smoking before.

'Hey!' Jane yelled back to the guy. 'Dont act Mister Know It All, please! Who are you anyways?" He already annoyed her. Such an asshole, after the scène with the principle which the whole school had been laughing at or seen. And who was the guy who would be monitoring her? Did the principle truly mean that as a punishment or was this some sick joke?

Patch ignored her and lit the cigarette. Sometimes she didn't think things through, but she had always been like that. This was the dumbest thing she had do though

'Hey asshole!' Jane walked up to him. 'Its your fault Jackie has been expelled! And you dare to act arrogant like thats not a vile thing to do!" She stood before him, her eyes like the burning cigarette.

"It's not my fault," he replied calmly, "you two shouldn't have tried something so stupid," he let out a puff of smoke. "All I was doing was trying to warn you."

Jane couldnt stand this guy any longer. She grabbed the cigarette out of his mouth and threw it on the ground. "All I do is trying to warn you smoking is deadly." She replied sarcastically.

Patch rolled his eyes, as the principle walked over to them, explaining that Patch would me the one to monitor her. "You are to watch over her all day, do I make myself clear?" Patch opened his mouth to protest, but sighed instead. "Yes, I do."

"No. You wont." Jane sneered and she turned on her heels and walked away.

The next day Jane tried to for got what happened. She missed Jackie and tried to come up with a plan to avenge her. She wanted to trick this guy, because she had defended him and he didnt do anything to return that favor. She was making a plan....

Patch sat in the same class as Jane, on the other side of the room. It was just his luck that he had to watch her. This curse sucked. Of course, he could just pray and God would hear him, and then he could pick a side, but he knew all he wanted to have, even after this curse, was her.

Alright. This had to be her plan: she would blow down his arrogant attitude in a split second. First she needed to know his roomnumber. Then she would attach a bowl full of cracked eggs to the top of the staircase. The moment he would open the door after school he would pull over the big bowl and all of the eggs would fall on top of him. Genius!

But, to know his roomnumber she had to observe him with him not noticing. Like a spy.
