Fantasy ☆Fairy Tale High☆ (Accepting)

Quincunx

inactive

Hidden from our modern world is a school for the teenage reincarnations of fairy tales, those who have been born again and again over many lifetimes in the shadows of myth. Their subjects include lore, history, magical science, magical creatures, power control, weaponry, and combat.

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_05/57a8c9d2095c9_fairytalehigh.jpg.7ec8c83648c61b0b4bd07190c3ea1760.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="124962" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_05/57a8c9d2095c9_fairytalehigh.jpg.7ec8c83648c61b0b4bd07190c3ea1760.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

This magical school exists in a small bubble of a magical city, located deep in the heart of the continental US. The reason it is hidden from humanity is that it is constantly under siege by an ancient evil, one whose thirst for adoration surfaces in the most destructive ways. This is why reincarnated fairy tales must be taught to fight. But lately, a mysterious group of students who would do anything to stop the fighting has surfaced - a group of students who know something the others don't.

You play as a reincarnated fairy tale who has, for better or for worse, joined this school. Learn who you are, take up arms, and decide which side you are on.

The cherry blossoms seemed to wave in a greeting to the incoming crop of students as they crossed through the gate to Fairy Tale High. The clean, silvery-white building stretched out long and rectangular in some places, and in others, rose into majestic towers struck by the sunlight. A silver-haired headmistress with large glasses stood at the top of the short set of stairs before the main doors, a serious expression on her face as she waited.

Aranka Vlasak skipped under the pink-powdered tree boughs, looking around at all the unfamiliar faces through her straight blonde bangs. She could remember when she'd been just an underclassman - this place had seemed so beautiful and mysterious and new to her. Not that it wasn't still beautiful. She loved this school. And now more people were there to love it with her.

She fixated on a girl with a tape measure around her neck, and a green-eyed boy with some strange leather tool, flitting over to them as the blue heels of her shoes crushed fallen petals on the asphalt. "Hi! My name's Aranka. Who are you?"

(@aranafco @ApfelSeine )

Meanwhile, two students looked on from within the gates, cynicism in their eyes. A pale-eyed boy with a hood over his head stood with a shadowy boy wearing all black, both leaning against the wall. The hooded boy exhaled sharply, as if blowing smoke in the direction of the headmistress. "Wonder if there'll be anyone like us this year. If I had to place a bet... it'd be her," he said.

The girl he was gesturing to had flown in on black wings. She had a river of dark hair that ran down her back and over her shoulders, skin the color of fine porcelain, and a strangely clouded look on her face for someone who'd just been in the sky. She leaned forward as she walked, as if in a hurry, and the hooded boy flinched when he realized she was headed their way.

"Hey," she said softly, and the thin wet trails on her face betrayed that she'd been crying. "Can I be here with you guys?"

The hooded boy was visibly surprised, but didn't protest. "I'm Brendan," he said. He gestured to his friend. "Colby."

Taylor offered a wide grin to Aranka, waving in a friendly manner to her as she walked up. She was surprised by how friendly someone was all of a sudden, but then, she supposed that many people were eager to make friends.

"My name is Taylor Klein," she replied cheerfully. "I'm from out of town, so it's kind of strange having no one recognize me. I'm a pretty big deal where I come form."

She laughed, but her tone was good natured and she didn't focus much time on her boast before she continued to speak.

"I take it that you're also a student here?" Taylor asked. "How new are you? Are you also a first year?"

Colby flipped his hood from over his head to fall back. His bright red eyes looked over at the girl who had stained streams below her eyes. Colby gives a small smirk and slowly wanders over to his friend Brendan, standing by his side. He looked at Brendan then at the girl again, "Who is this girl? Hey girl you have a bit of something under your eyes?" He pointed under his own eyes to show where the tear stains were still at. Then placed his hands into his pant pockets, his jacket was adjusted and as his hands were in his pockets, it revealed the small broken Katana hanging from his side and was neatly placed inside a holster made especially for the weapon.

He smiled at the girl and gazed at her body and stopped to inspect her wings, he gives a sudden glance and accidentally makes eye contact. Before wrapping his arm around his friend Brendan and softly whispered into he ear,
"Who is she, why did you call me over?"

"Wait, 'also first year'?" Both girls turned slightly to him "I was trying to stay close because you seemed to know where you where going."

(OOC:

@aranafco , one-liners are not acceptable here, per the rules. For conversations, four sentences is the bare minimum, and I'm hoping to see more than that if you can do it.)

Aranka was taken aback by the boast. Most fairy tales she knew didn't have much of a home life to speak of, if they weren't glad to get away from it. She thought carefully about what to display about herself before she spoke, as she led the two students closer to Headmistress Whuppie. "Well, I'm actually a third-year. I don't have much to say about myself, other than I summon bears and my hair can probably glow in the dark. I'm not what you'd call important back home, though."

She turned to the boy that appeared to be walking with her. "Don't worry; you can follow me. I'm just trying to get you a good spot for after the Headmistress's speech, so you'll be first in line when you sign up for classes. What's your name? And where are you from?"

@aranafco @ApfelSeine

"I know..." the girl said quietly, her voice trailing off. She regarded his weapon with something like awe. "You must be strong if you've survived this much with a broken sword. All I have is a kitchen knife."

Brendan flinched at the touch, but settled into it eventually. "I called you over because it gets lonely seeing all of these bright-eyed people, wondering who could be your friend. Who are you anyways?" He flipped the question over to the girl.

"Luscinia Dunn," the girl said in a shaky voice. She folded her wings behind her and smoothed out her dress, smiling a little. "You can call me Lusy. Or the Nightingale, because that's what I'm reincarnated from."

@Zaxs

"My name's Brian Turner" He then stalled for a second "And really, right now the closest thing to a home base I have is Tuttle's Motel over there" He tried not to make it sound like something unusual, as it was probable many other students were on the same position. "Anyway, this is Fairy Tale High, right? What tale are you guy's from?"

He firmly grabbed the hilt of his katana, pulling it from its holster, "I wouldn't say strong, I just used the blade in different ways that almost no one would expect. It catches people by surprise and by then it's a little to late for them to save themselves." He holds the katana and shows the girl the blade, before putting it back into his holster.

He smiles softly back at the girl, and holds out his hand to shake hers, "Nice to meet you, I am Colby Isra and I am reincarnated from the Shadow." His smile turned to a slight smirk, once he announced his origin. Hoping to maybe get some praise or to see if the girl might recognize him.

(OOC:

@NecroKnight, Ivan has been accepted into the RP. Feel free to jump in anytime you like.)

Aranka shrugged. She knew all about making her home in cheap hotels, and wondered if she and this boy had anything else in common (although she couldn't just ask him if he was a runaway, maybe their fairy tales had been from the same era or something). "Goldilocks," she replied. "If you couldn't tell from the hair. You know, that girl who broke into a house." She stopped short when they got a ways through the gates, relatively close to the Headmistress, and flipped her hair back behind her shoulders, noticing an older boy with frosty hair.

@NecroKnight @ApfelSeine @aranafco

"The Shadow?" Lusy said. "I remember that one. I'm a really big fan of fairy tales written by - I mean, I guess, documented by - Hans Christian Andersen. Are you more like the Shadow or the Master?"

@Zaxs

Before Colby could reply, a voice with a thick Scottish accent rang out. "Attention, everyone!" The voice was coming from the silver-haired woman wearing black clothes and large glasses, holding a microphone. "I'll keep this brief. My name is Headmistress Molly Whuppie, for those fa dornt ken me yet. I run this place.

"I see so many eyes, so many bright hopeful faces. That's good - faith is th' first step to victory. Some of you have come here overflowin' with hope; some of you have come here seekin' it. Well, this place is your wellspring. Put forth your best, and we'll give you everything we have."

She stepped aside. "Welcome to Fairy Tale High. Your class selection sheets are waitin' on you inside, and then you have th' whole day to settle into th' towers, which'll be your new home. Provided that nothing decides t' attack. You can choose roommates of th' same gender, or bunk on your own." She pronounced "home" like "haem", "to" like "tae", and "you" like "ye".

Aranka led the first-years into the school, with Headmistress Whuppie opening the doors with a press of a button. The hallway they stepped into was clean and a warm gray color. Signs handwritten with marker guided them down the hall to a classroom, with a table surrounded by folding chairs. In the center of the table was a large stack of identical papers.

Fairy Tale High: Class Selection

Pick one of the following:

Lore: Understanding Fairy Tales

Magical History: Recent and Current Events

Magical Science: Building Blocks of Magic

Pick another of the following:

Magical Creatures

Identification of Evil

Weaponry

Finally, pick one of the following:

Power Control with Combat Applications

Power Control for Tactical Applications

For example, a completed selection sheet could say something like "Magical History, Identification of Evil, and Power Control for Tactical Applications." Please leave completed selection sheets in a neat pile on the table, and enjoy the time settling in.

Aranka was the first to fill out a sheet, signing up for Magical Science, Identification of Evil, and Power Control with Combat Applications. She started the pile on the table, and turned to Taylor and Brian.
"So, I took Tactical Applications last year, and frankly bears don't take well to that. Just so you know. What are you guys into?"

Meanwhile, the Others had been listening to the entrance speech as well. While Brendan scoffed at the Headmistress's rhetoric - "It takes more than faith to bring victory. That's why I'm a strategist," was something he liked to say - Lusy seemed to perk right up at the mention of either hope or classes. (It was hard to tell which.) She stayed in the front of the group as they headed inside, and Brendan had to walk quickly to match her bouncing strides. He signed up for Lore, Magical Creatures, and Combat Applications; Lusy chose Magical History, Identification of Evil, and Tactical Applications. They handed in their papers, and moved aside so Colby could fill out his sheet.

Colby looked over at the girl that started the stack of papers, she seemed familiar to him, but he wasn't sure. He walked inside aong with the Brendon and Lusy. Watching her so excited for her class gave him a smile, but once they were inside his smile faded away. "Ugh..I always have a hard time choosing my classes. Whether I should get more knowledge or should I just stick with normal combat practice." He looked at the paper for a few minutes, before he realized he was taking to long. So he checked the classes Magical history, Weaponry, and Combat Applications.

He sighed and handed in his paper, then walks over to stand beside Lusy and Brendon again.
"So mister strategist, what classes did you pick as for you Lusy?"

The boy in question was gently humming along, readying a book alone in the place.

(Sorry about shortness, I have no clue on how to simply jump in here - after it has started this far)

The first two seemed obvious, for the last category he wasn't so sure, but didn't give it much thought as it didn't seem like a big deal for the upperclassmen. "Well, I think I'm going to pick Magical Science, Weapons, and Tactical Applications" "It's not like I have any bears on me" He wrote his name on the paper and hesitated for a moment before placing it along with the others. "Hey, Aranka" "Are these three really all the classes we'll have? No english, no math, no geography?"

(

@NecroKnight , you need to read the two posts I made if you haven't already. That's all the catching-up involved. We're after Headmistress Whuppie's speech, signing up for classes. So your character should sign up for classes, and maybe try talking to someone before they settle into their dorm.)

"Oh, no," Aranka said with a small giggle. "These are just electives. You'll still get some academic classes every day, but those are assigned based on your old school grades, not chosen by us."

(OOC: academic classes will be timeskipped past, as I can't see a way to make them as fun and worth playing through as electives.)

@aranafco @ApfelSeine

Meanwhile, Brendan was explaining his choice of classes to Colby. He wasn't sure how to verbalize it, but he wanted the shadowy boy to be his roommate. "Lore, Magical Creatures, and Combat Applications. I feel like getting to know myself a little more. I saw you're in Combat Apps too, and Magical History."

"Why'd you pick those?" Lusy asked. "I'm curious. And I chose Magical History, Identification of Evil, and Tactical Apps. Because, you know, I'm a healer..."

An older boy with, with gray hair, soon visited the same class - needed to get started on their Magical Class Selection. Like before he choose to study in Lore, Identification of Evil and Power Control of Combat Applicaitons. Seeing as most of his own Tales - had been related or about, good versus evil, with his previous reincarnations having been him helping the good.

Which made him have a more drawn connection to those subjects. While he appeared to have a cold persona, inside he was actually quite friendly - albeit for some reason, most saw him 'scary', it was true, he looked big and indimitating - but he was a gentle giant, once people got to know him.

(This is getting confusing for me fast, so is this right?)

Taylor laughed a bit, shaking her head and resting a hand on her hip.

"Dang, guess thinking that these were the only classes given was too easy to be true," Taylor said, her tone amused. "Still, that shouldn't be any trouble for me at all. And at least the electives will be more interesting than my old school. I'm definately into learning more about magical creatures and fairytale lore. Plus, learning tactical applications is a good use of my time. It should break up the monotony of regular classes."

He glances over to Lusy then back at Brendan, "I chose Magical History, because it seemed like an easy class. Plus I might be able to learn something more about magic and just the basic magics. As for Combat Apps, I can always improve my combat skills. Because my surprise tacics can only get me so far on the battle field." He then looks at Lusy with a big smile on his face, "As for your question earlier, you can decide whether I am the shadow or the master."

"They don't get that monotonous," Aranka assured. "Professor Hans is my favorite, and he'll be teaching Magical Creatures. He knows how to handle a griffon." She paused, and then leaned back against the wall. "Hey Taylor, I know this sounds sudden, but would you like to be my roommate? My last one..." she debated telling her acquaintance about the outcome of last-year's bloodbath. Maybe when they were closer. Which would only happen if they became roommates. "It didn't turn out so well."

"You seem like such a shadow," Lusy said. "You act like a fly on the wall, but I bet you have big plans." She smiled back, and then shifted her view to Brendan, who was a few heads taller than she was. "So, past lives. Do you guys just remember yours? Or did you have to learn about them? Because I'd really like to know how I healed the emperor or something."

Brendan shook his head. "We learn about them, mostly in Lore. I haven't known anyone who got past life memories."

Lusy sighed. "I should've known it wouldn't be that easy."

None of the students, or even the Headmistress for that matter, noticed a thin black shadow creeping brazenly under the cracks of the door and playing through the hall.

(OOC: I think it would be a good idea for everyone to head down to dorms soon, so we can get a move on with the plot.)

"No problem," Taylor said, joining her thumb and forefinger together in the american gesture for 'okay'. "Honestly I figured that they just randomly assigned roommates. If we're allowed to pick then I'm totally down for dorming with you. I don't really know what kind of a roommate I'll be, but I'll try to stay out of your hair."

She gave Aranka a wink, feeling amused by her own joke.

Later that night...

Something disturbed Aranka as she slept in her bunk above Taylor. She twitched and tossed and turned under her covers, bathed in the moonlight streaming in from outside. She heard a scratching sound at her door. "Hey, Taylor, do you hear that?"

It kept happening. Aranka decided not to wait for a reply, and hopped groggily down from her bunk. "Ow." She felt her way to the door in the alternating light and darkness, around the two desks and otherwise clear floor. She groped for the doorknob and opened the door, expecting the room to flood with light.

A spiraling monster with roses in its teeth peered back at her, slithering into the room.

"Taylor! Wake up!" Aranka screamed as her hair began to glow like a halo around her. She picked up her chainsaw from her desk and prepared to do battle, hoping Taylor would join her. She charged the serpent with her saw, aiming straight for its long neck.

(Beginning of Battle. Power 8 + Dice 1 = 9;
total: 9)

The monster responded by slithering into an attack position of its own, its bared teeth bearing the brunt of Aranka's maneuver.

(Power 7 + Dice 6 = 13;
total: 13)

She didn't know it, but the dorms were being overrun by these monsters that spiraled around the towers and snaked through the halls. Brendan, Colby, Brian, Ivan, and Luscinia were all about to discover that for themselves.

Kierran had arrived silently to Fairy Tale High and moved through the crowd like a ghost not drawing attention to himself. He observed a few people that had caught his attention, a reincarnation of the nightingale, a boastful young girl, and one who wielded a broken sword as a weapon. Once he had listened to the Headmistress' speech, he chose his three classes, magical creatures, fairy tale lore, and tactical applications. Kierran did not like using power in his work so he decided to learn how to channel his already given talents further. After selecting his classes, he walked over to his assigned room, unlocked, opened, then closed the door and proceeded to flop on the lower bed in the room. He arrived a little later than most so he decided that he'd make his introductions tomorrow and to his new roommate, if he ended up having one.
