Inside the massive building of Aurora High there were students bustling everywhere. Lines of lockers and corridors filled with statues and cases containing various achievements seemed to be around every corner. The Victorian style artistry and the structure of the building itself would not have lead you to believe it was inhabited by a major population of vampires. Now mixed with a handful of humans. All here attending what could be known as the most prestigious high school in the country.

The newest experiment was an intriguing one. Offering the gifted children of humans, who displayed exceptional intelligence, the chance to attend such school and learn among their fellow vampire and human students. It was more to seal a contract, of peace and harmony that had been recently brought to the table. A term of acceptance that they thought they could start off by mingling the younger generation. Approximately 50 humans, and 200 vampires- now occupied this school, together.

Paige just happened to be one of those students.

She was standing, thin frame clothed in black pants and a pink tank top, against her locker. Brown locks flowing down her shoulders as her mind raced with the possibilities and fears of what the year had to offer her. Her eyes had drifted to the windows, staring outside at the beautiful scene displayed through it. These windows larger then you would expect for a school full of vampires- they let in a massive amount of light, it washed over ivory stones walls, situated with exceptional quotes and pictures from a world not her own, that she didn’t bare relevance to.

Paige sighed, a lip sliding in between her teeth as she did so, leaning back into the cool compress of her metal locker.

“Really- what am I going to do?” She spoke softly enough to remain unheard, but at the same time feel as those her issue had been openly expressed.

It was ridiculous really, that just because she was “gifted” she was shipped off to a new school. Though- she doubted that was the proper ideal to be taking it as. It was true that this would save her father money and a large sense of worry. It was also true that she hadn’t put up much of a fuss.

Her father- the strong, mature man that he was, had been having quite the time trying to upkeep his little girl and all the things that came along with her on his small salary. Her mother, up and flying the coop three years ago sure hadn’t helped. Large lashes covered her green eyes as she tried to put herself into a mindset of optimism, of focus. There would be more people like her here, and it really wasn’t that lengthy of a time.

Her eyes snapped open at the sound of a bell, alarmingly loud- blaring through the corridor. How long had she been lost in her own thoughts? She cussed under her breath, pulling herself together quickly as she began to pace down the hall.

Scolding herself internally in regards to the fact that she was going to be tardy on her very first day, very first class.

“Wonderful, what an impression to be making! You’re a star.” Her scolding had become external now, drawing the attention of passerby’s. A group consisting of two males and a female had now turned their heads. Their curious expression making her feel as though they could see into the depths of her soul. Their gaze held her, pale skin and dark eyes as curious as her own.

Paige moved quickly- discomfort passing through the pit of her stomach. Even though she wanted the possibility of blending in and going unnoticed to be the prevailing one- she knew this was highly unlikely. Her thoughts raced as her feet continued to carry her down the winding hallway, a solid, rational thought making her stop dead in her tracks, clutching her English book to her chest.

She didn’t even have the slightest notion where her class was.
