Kingdom of Valcay
valcay forces.png
The Kingdom of Valcay traces its roots to the ancient realm of Boldica, whose lords were vassals to the Old Kingdom. It is said that the institution of knighthood first began in this realm. Nobles from Valcay have invaded many regions, including what is now Fyrdos, Dyrnwald, and Carmondy. In these aforementioned lands, the majority of knights and nobles are of Valcayan lineage. Some of the great nobles still possess fiefs in Valcay, and share allegiance with its king. Most lords, however, have few ties to their homeland, and are exclusively sworn to their local kings.

Among the noble houses of Valcayan descent, women are known to take up arms as well as men. Nobles of Valcayan descent living in Carmondy, Fyrdos, and Dyrnwald still speak their mother tongue, albeit with a different dialect. Most of these expatriate highborn are also fluent in the 'common tongue' of their respective regions, but have noticeable accents.

Kingdom of Carmondy

The Kingdom of Carmondy is the largest of the 'Boldic' kingdoms, besides Valcay itself. With its lush, fertile land, it supports a very large population. Much of its old forests have been cut down, aside from protected royal woodland and the private hunting grounds of the nobility. The kingdom has fought many bitter wars over its rights to various lands, both new and old. The nobles of the Kingdom of Carmondy primarily hail from the provinces situated on the western coast of Valcay, and these regions are where some of its magnates hold a good portion of their foreign estates.

In the early days, the Galds ruled over what came to be called Carmondy, but their chieftains and kings would be dispossessed and replaced by the invading Boldic lords. The commoners of this realm are still mostly of Galdic descent, much like Dyrnwald and southern Fyrdos, though they no longer see themselves as such. They now worship Paragon Emmortal, rather than the old druidic gods. Still, they don't speak the same language as their betters - though Valcayan colonists have intermingled with the common populace in some regions, mainly on the eastern coast.

The Kingdom of Carmondy is the most 'feudally developed' of the new Boldic kingdoms. It has more knights, more lords, more towns, and more complicated laws than Dyrnwald and Fyrdos combined. Throughout the centuries, it has used its strength to dominate its neighbors - especially Fyrdos. A century ago, Carmondy lost ten thousand men attempting to take the crown of Fyrdos. Since then, their policy has been slower, and subtler... marriages, bribes, and influencing the Fyrdian nobility over time. At this point, the King of Fyrdos is a vassal of the Carmon crown.

Provinces of Carmondy include Royalens, Westric, Aestron, Midduch, Lassix, Cenros, and the North Lands. The King of Tyberia and the King of Fyrdos are both sworn vassals of the Carmon crown, as well.

Kingdom of Fyrdos
fyrdos forces.png

The Kingdom of Fyrdos is the poor little country to the north of Carmondy, ruled by a mixture of clans and noble houses. Fyrdos is a hilly, mountainous, and heavily forested realm. Raising cattle plays a critical role in many communities, and raiding for livestock happens frequently in the more lawless provinces. Over the years, Carmondy has chipped away at this realm, invading its former territory, building and occupying towns within their borders, and paying off Fyrdian nobles. A puppet kingship is currently in place, headed by Tharon Grenn, a sworn vassal to the King of Carmondy.

In the south, most Fyrdian nobles are of Carmon descent, and own lands within Carmondy for which they owe its king an oath of fealty. The poorer noble houses inhabit the midlands and the highlands, where they have been driven after being dispossessed of their fertile southern holdings by the lickspittles of the Carmon king. Also inhabiting the upper reaches of the realm are the clanfolk; Galds who gave up the worship of their old gods long ago, and battle against the heathen tribes that constantly attempt to encroach from the north.

Fyrdians don't have any particular titles for their nobles, other than 'Lord'. Southern nobles may be 'Baron' by virtue of their holdings in Carmondy. Like Carmondy and Dyrnwald, Abbots and Archabbots also preside over rather significant holdings within the realm.

Kingdom of Dyrnwald
dyrnwald forces.png

The Kingdom of Dyrnwald is a rather neglected land to the west of Carmondy, resting upon an isle that it shares with a large swath of Old Kingdom ruins to the north. These magick-tainted badlands are home to many ruins, faends, and monstrosities. Cults and the remnants of ancient military orders remain pervasive, so Dyrnwald hosts some of the most prestigious Paladin orders on this side of the continent.

Since the schism of the Old Kingdom still left tainted magicks laying upon the land, Dyrnwald is rather unfertile and poor. It isn't rare for the foolhardy and desperate to turn 'adventurer' and attempt to search for treasure within the Old Kingdom's ruins to the north. Few survive. The nobility stand more of a chance, though rather than looking for riches, they simply pay the Paladins to take them on exotic hunting forays, killing monsters and faends.

Dyrnwald maintains an uneasy peace with Carmondy. They've been left alone in the past, as they do not have a great deal of wealth to speak of. Like Fyrdos, they don't have any noble titles aside from 'Lord' and 'Sir'.

Kingdom of Tyberia
1696887655428.png
An independent kingdom just across across the narrow sea from Midwalsia, and bordering the Carmondian province of Aestron. The kingdom maintains a close relationship with both the See of Light and Carmondy, though they have had to defend themselves from the latter by force of arms several times in the past. War with the small kingdom is usually costly, as they can easily restrict access to Carmondy's east coast.

The Tyberians often serve as sailors and mercenaries, especially hired by the See of Light, and the principalities in Midwalsia. In Carmondy, Royalens and Aestron often hire Tyberian spearmen. Many knights from Tyberia often search for work in the more turbulent lands around them, especially when there is peace with Carmondy.

The land across the narrow sea from Tyberia is a patchwork of different cities, princes, and independent lordships. These various entities war with the Selarians, Qoelmar, and the Torogars, who invaded the isle that was once inhabited by the Walsians and called Sorwal Isle. There is lively trade in the Bay of Nerune, and in the Seas of the See. Devout Paragonites, the Midwalsians are a source of warriors for the See of Light in their holy war against the fae-worshiping Aedor successor states.

Lands of Melthar

The flag of the vassal-kingdom to Ravock

A mostly lawless land that borders the Carmondian province of Lassix. Several kings and uncounted warlords rule these lands, and all have proven difficult to subdue. Much of southern Melthar has been pacified by the combined might of the Kingdom of Ardvale and the Carmondians of Lassix as they fought to make safe passage through that land for trade. Now, only lords remaining friendly to their interest - at least, nominally - remain along those highways. Tolls are still frequent and high, but there is a degree of security for Ardvalians travelling to make trade in Carmondy, or vice versa. Melthar's coast that stretches across from the Kingdom of Ravock is also relatively developed, with one of the kings in that region being recognised by - and the vassal of - the King of Ravock.

Kings in northern Melthar are involved in constant skirmishes with the Kingdom of Orthos, and the Kingdom of Ravock. Attacks along Raider Bay contribute to the chaos in the region. Many poor folk will look to about anyone for protection, even renegades and brigands. The concept of knighthood is not well developed, with about any mounted person with arms generally being called a "knight". Many places in these lands still adhere to the Galdic tribal system, though there are also many independent towns and mini-kingdoms.

Kingdom of Ravock

This kingdom was formed a century ago, when their various clans were finally united. Before that, a mighty warrior known as Ronald the Hammer is known to have sailed to Fyrdos and spread the Ravockan diaspora to the mainland. The Kingdom of Ravock is the subject of frequent raids by the Nylanders and Snejor. They are a hardy people, trading along Raider Bay and the Hook.

Ravock is still home to many indigenous tribes, though they have all now converted to Paragonism, with the exception of several obscure clans of brigands who cling to the old ways. The King of Ravock still doesn't have much control over his subjects, who can be particularly bellicose, but the kingdom has shown that they are able to unite their isle in order to fend of external threats.

The feud with Snejord has gone on for centuries, having lulls and surges, and never truly ending. Nobles from the Hook have a claim on the Kingdom of Orthos, which they sometimes prosecute with the help of other Ravockians. The current monarch of Ravock is King Roggard Magnay.

Kingdom of Orthos

The Kingdom of Orthos is often considered to be part of the Lands of Melthar, though it is a much more cohesive realm with its own distinct culture. Orthosians are united in the defence of their fertile lands from the Meltharian barbarians, and the seaborne raiders from Nyland and Snejord. The nobles of this realm are mainly descended from adventurers from Cenros in Carmondy, though this was back when Cenros was its own kingdom and not part of the greater Carmon realm, as it is today. Orthosian towns are some of the most important trading stops along the Hook.

Republic of Gorwad
1697596796539.png
A realm with an elected Patriarch, rather than a monarchy. Gorwad still has a caste system that includes nobles and peasants. Though serfdom isn't commonplace, Gorwad deals heavily in the slave trade by land and sea. Gorwadians are known for engineering prowess, with the latest in crossbow spanning mechanisms being developed there. The Republic of Gorwad is essentially a confederation of its armed cities and the warrior nobility, who have agreed to rule themselves without a king. The last supreme ruler of Gorwad, King Meldrad Gartoss, was stripped, shaved, and sold as a slave to the Sandwastes over four decades ago.

Outlands of Galdos

Galds.png
Galdos was once the name of the continent, before the invading Imperials and Bolds began to stake their claims. Comprised of a wide range of bands, tribes, and kingdoms, Galds may range from pelt-wearing savages, to societies only about a century or so behind the Boldic lands. The Galds have lived upon this continent since time immemorial, and still follow their own ancient gods. Some Galds in the borderlands have since converted to the faith of the Bolds, and worship Paragon Emmortal. Most, however, follow druidic or shamanistic traditions. Sorcery and necromancy are also said to be practiced by some of these folk, incorporating human and animal sacrifice.

Galds are principally foragers and raiders, as they live in high hills, mountains, and deep forests, rather fertile plains that can support many crops. Still, most settlements at least perform limited agriculture and herding. They are considered wild warriors, and lack quality steel arms and armaments - but they make up for it in bravery and ferocity.
