Fandom Eyes of the Overwatch- A Half-Life 2 RP

Basics

This is a roleplay game set in the world of Valve's first person science-fiction shooter, Half-Life 2. It is HIGHLY recommended that you understand the world of HL2 and how it works. The game runs like any Casual game, with the core rule being Play to Lose- in other words, instead of rolling a dice, roleplay within realistic parameters- you cannot "dodge" bullets unless you have good reason (for example, ducking away into the wall you're huddled at as somebody brings up their pistol). Additionally, keep your posts open-ended- if you shoot at somebody, write 'I take a shot at Bob's chest', not 'I shoot Bob in the chest'. P2L is meant to prevent godmodding.

Lore:

In 1952, the US government moved its secret activities to the Black Mesa Research Facility in New Mexico. There, in 1999, a massive portal was accidentally opened to an alien world known as Xen. Beasts from said world invaded in worldwide Portal Storms. These were contained mostly, but they attracted the attention of the militaristic, multi-dimensional Universal Union, more commonly known as the Combine for their tactic of repurposing the constructions and species of those worlds conquered to keep said worlds subjugated. In 2007, the Combine invaded, and subjugated Earth in seven hours. Now, near-perpeptual skirmish between Resistance and Combine forces occurs, in the year 2019.

There are two superfactions in the game, with a few factions each.

Superfaction 1: The Combine

This is the multiversal empire that took over the Earth in 2007. It is world-spanning, and keeps its citizens under the few remaining cities, stripped of their names and assigned numbers. They are based in the Citadel in City 17, a massive 2 km tall tower, at the top of which resides the City Administrator, leader (whether puppet or not is unknown) of the city.

Sub-Faction I: Civil Protection

These are the police operatives, the Thought Police of the Combine. They are famed for their brutality and frequent raids on the Civil Housing apartment blocks that most Citizens live in. Their colloquial name is "Metrocops". They wear white gas-masks with reflective black lenses, and an overall black uniform with white highlights.

Ranks: i4, (Stunstick) i3 (Stunstick, Pistol) i2 (Stunstick, SMG) i1 (Stunstick, SMG or Shotgun)

Sub-Faction II: Overwatch Transhuman Arm

The brainwashed, cyborg military of the Combine. They are unemotional and unrelentingly cold. They are sent to deal with much more hazardous situations and military combat than the Civil Protection, and are equipped with dark blue gasmask-helmets and body armor. They are completely loyal to the Combine, and like the Civil Protection speak out of vocoders. Due to their mental conditioning, they speak in only mandatory vocabulary. They are only brought out of stasis for important events, or dangerous situations. They are the dedicated guardians of the City Administrator, and guarding him is the only circumstance in which they will come out of the Citadel normally.

Ranks: Squad Unit (SMG, Grenades) Squad Leader (Shotgun or Pulse Rifle, Grenades, Brown-colored body armor) Elite Overwatch Unit (Pulse Rifle, White armor and helmet, Grenades)

Superfaction II: Humans and Resistance

Sub-Faction I: Citizens

The blue-suited, downtrodden citizens of the Combine's subjugation of Earth. They may join the Resistance if they don't fear their lives, or become loyal to the Combine. Loyalty is rewarded with fuller rations and better conditions, but if you step out of line then...

Sub Faction II: Resistance/Rebels

The rebellion. They are armed with whatever armor and weapons they could salvage from the Combine, and fight desperately to free Earth. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but all know that they aren't getting any mercy on the battlefield- to the Combine, they are all capital criminals. There is no application needed to join the Rebels, as you do it in-character. But be warned- you do that, you're a criminal and are marked for death, basically.
