Is there a way to mass escort a private message thread, keeping the coding intact? Control+A'ing the whole page "ain't it," as the kids say.

Unfortunately, there is no way with the current software to mass export PMs. If it's the code you need to copy, you'll need to go into Edit post and copy it manually
