Excellencies Used in Dramatic Actions

Ok, here's something that has been bothering me. Specifically,  tye duration is instant. But it's still a dice adder.  Can a Exalt use the first and second excellencies in a combo to get huge bonuses to craft checks for say one roll that represents 3 months of work?

Yes, because of the way dramatic actions work. In 2E, dramatic actions have particular rules now, where one roll is essentially made to determine the outcome of a long effort, but is still considered "one action". Essentially, the excellency happens in the "instant" of the actual roll.

Excellencies can also augment things that aren't even rolls, like feats of strength.

Read "instant" as "for as long as it takes to throw the dice once and figure out what happened on that roll".  Common sense, etc.

Personally I do include a house rule that the when using an instant charm for a dramatic action the essence is committed for the duration of the action.

But are you allowed to use the full extent of both Excellencies, or just a mix of the two to total up to the maximum dice allowed?

In other words, is it a maximum total amount of extra dice equal to (DEX +Athletics) for both Excellencies, or a maximum total of (DEX +Athletics) for the first, plus (DEX +Athletics) for the second?

Defiantly limited to the usual amount of dice adding between the 2 exultancies. You don’t get more advantages stacking just because the action takes a bit longer. The limit to dice adding applies to a single role, no mater how log that roll takes.

Ker'ion:

... not really knowing exactly what you are referring to; no dice-pool for a single action can *ever* exceed the hard dice adder cap, through any combination of powers/Charm's/whatever. Only way to exceed that pool is external bonuses (such as through equipment etc).

So, a Charm that adds the entire available relevant dice pool as additional dice cannot have an Excellency used with it?

Not the First or Second Excellencies, no.

It might also be handy to remember that whole other dice adding charms count for the maximum, auto-successes (unless bought with the second excellency) from other charms don't. So if you had the Inevitable Genius Insight (I think that's its name) up for making this thing...that auto-success it gives you isn't counted in the total.

Auto-success charms outside the second excellency aren't too common, though.
