Ze Hamster of Lurkdom
Imagine if you will...

The Jade Cage worked -perfectly-. The ursuption managing to take out all of the solars and lunars at once as they're sealed in said jade cage.

No protracted war between the Dragonblooded and surviving celestial exalted.

The sidereals retreat to Yu-shan, letting Creation be managed by the dragonblooded.

Over time, the anathema are forgotten. Becoming fireside stories, and then history. Passing from history to legend, and hence into myths before fading away.

The fading of tales of the celestial exalted had much help from the contagion and fae invasion.

Which resulted in a single brave dragonblooded soldier taking control of the Imperial Defense Grid and saving all of Creation.

Now, almost 1000 years has passed, the latest empress has gone missing, there is word of civil war once more as the great houses try to decide who would rule Creation.

And into this time of tulmult, curious godblooded have emerged, wielding the powers of the sun and moon. Without memories or recriminations of the past to weight them down, they wander creation.

Hardly a match for the might of the Princes of the Earth, the Dragonblooded, these sunblooded and moonblooded struggle to find a place for themselves... to grow in power.

And in the heavenly city of Yu-shan, there is much fear and recriminations as those who control the Loom of Fate gaze fearfully at the broken Jade Cage and those it once held.

So rather than having their own Celestial Exalted, the Unconquered Sun and Luna instead produced their own God-Blooded?  And the Solar and Lunar shards have been trapped in the Jade Cage.  But now they're missing for some mysterious reason?

Not... quite...

The Solars and Lunars have been forgotten...

And when the shards popped free, their memories are gone... so no past lifes, no throwbacks... just no.

In this setting, newly exalted exalts start with essence 1, a handful of charms... before the spending of bonus points

Which tends to get them mistaken for godblooded.

So you have Solars and Lunars who start out weaker, no Sidereals, and presumably, no Abyssals?

Yeap... no abyssals, sidereals are in heaven...

On the other hand, no wyld hunt... at least focussed on the Solar/Lunars while they're weak...

And spirits are hard pressed to ID them as well as solars/lunras due to the disparity in power (at the moment).

The Death lords are just regular ghosts with massive age. nothing more.

What are you trying to accomplish with this change?

There's nothing worng with it, that I can see, but I don't know what prompted the changes.

Other than your reasons for this, as the big F said, I think it would be a nice idea.

Oddly enough, I have no reason for such changes beyond my amusement as I throw this out to the winds.

Littering is impolite. :(

Some ancient ghosts got together and were upset... and they plumbed the depths of the Well of Udr.

Or perhaps, some adventurer went forth into the wyld, in search of something and brought something REALLY lethal back to Creation... a disease that killed 90% of the population.

Or it might even be possible that some smart ass Dragonblooded used ancient First Age weapons... and it was far more effective then it was thought it'd be.

Or perhaps a yozi plot...

something... ^_^

They are the ghosts of 13 solars who made deals with the Neverborn. I suppose in this scenario, that is still possible.

The man of words raises a valid point before I could: the Deathlords are still a valid addition to this alternate setting, as are Deathknights.

I like the concept though, as an alternate setting it's nice. :)

Deathnights require solar shards, which in this plot are all still in prison, so even if Deathlords exist, I don't think deathnights could. Prior to figuring out how to make Deathnights, the Deathlords used nemisaries for most missions, IIRC.

I would think that the new Exalts popping up would still have to have at least a 2 in Essence.  After all, even a typical mortal has a 1, and to be able to qualify for some of the basic charms, they have a prereq of a higher Essence.

Not necessary, if you'll look at your books, you'll notice a number of essence 1 charms... at least for solars and dragonblooded, this extends even into 2e. It affected every exalt type in 1e, I can't for sidereals as I'm too lazy to go over their book.

Besides... alternate-setting, don't get so caught up in the canon, insisting on essence 2.

They're still possible... I just never really liked the whole... OMG! Deathlordz! Instal-kill you!

The jade prizon did break didn't it?

So the deathlords did take some solar shards?

So the main difference is tha the word anathema doesn't exist. Wyld hunt doesn't exist. Though abbysals could exist in your setting and sidereals could start meddling in creation affairs after the break of the prizon.

It is an intresting change since it adds more mystery to the celestials. People won't go: "Get away from me Monster!" they will go "What in the name of...?"

Personally though I like the fact that solars should always keep watch for the Wyld Hunt and though that they are the rightful rulers of creation they must use their powers sparingly and hide.

This doesn't exist in your alternate setting so I don't think I would like it that much, then again I am running the campaign in the time before the empress disappearance with the game revolving around the solars surviving and fighting battles they cannot win.

Who are the main protagonists is it other Solars that would be cool. I miss the political aspect a little with them sometimes.
