Fantasy Everything Is Not As It Seems...

Aurora blushed not taking her eyes off the ceiling. She finally sat up and crossed her legs, putting her journal in her lap. She picked up a nearby pen and started scribbling down the end of a tune she had been working on for weeks. She read over it and smiled, "Almost two months of work is finally done."

Meanwhile, Sapphira had been sitting in her room. Her sobs were silent; no one came. She gazed at her box of belongings, and pulled out her violin. A small smile crossed her face, and she raised it. She began to play a slow, mournful song. She wondered where Oliver was; she quite liked him. Her immediate instinct had been to save him from Cole. But how could he ever like a girl like her? She was quiet, not intimidating in the least. The other girls were much more aggressive than she was.

I went and sat next to her, leaning against the wall. "Can I see it" I said gesturing to the notebook. It seemed like it meant the world to her, that notebook, so besides wanting to see her songs, I wanted to see if she trusted me, at least a little bit.

"But I don't want these powers!" Lake said as she tightened her arms around him. "I don't even know what's right anymore!"

Then she heard Cole mumble. "There's a room where light won't find you. Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down. When they do, I'll be right behind you"

"Why would you want to stand behind by me?" She asked as she looked up at him. "I'm just a failure, I don't have anything special, I fuck up everything. You'd be smart if you'd just leave me alone, I don't want to hurt you like I hurt everybody else… And what if my dad doesn't want me back?" The question had been bothering her the moment she found that she couldn't leave just yet. "Of all the people, I hurt him the most. I made everything just harder for him since mom left. I'm probably not even his own daughter… He has no reason to keep me." She took a step back and rubbed her eyes with the heel of her foot. "And this is why I take drugs." She breathed. "I turn into an emotion wreck, I must look horrible." She looked at Cole, her mind begging him to agree with her.

"You may not want it, but as long as you have it, you must learn how to use it. To prevent hurting others. The weapons of mind are capable of pushing the world into chaos. That's why you have to master it." Answered Cole to Lake. He knew this will be hard to take in, but there were no other choices. "Don't want to do always the right thing. Do what you feel like to. You would like to go and kick someone's *ss? Then do so. You would like to do something big and crazy? Then do so! Life isn't about making the good decisions all the time. A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. You break things? So what, and who doesn't? You don't have any special? I think the visitors of bars, and restaurants who heard playing you the guitar would say something completely different." He smiled at the girl. "I can get hurt by being near to you? Okay, I still don't mind doing so. What's more, I'll get closer and closer so that you could hurt only me, but not the others." Cole gently touched Lake's shoulder, indicating he has still something to say. "Regarding your father. You may or may not be his child. But he grew you up, and I believe you are grateful for it, aren't you? Yes you may have hurt him, and he may have no reason to keep you. But what I'm sure of is that if you met him, and tell him how grateful you are, and how much you do sorry what had happened, he would open his arms for you." Cole, in his look, tried to assure her that everything would turn out well.

"And last, but not least. Yes you look horrible times like this." He added with a wider smile on his face. "But I like you. Not because of how you look like. Not because of what you speak. But because what you are." He hoped that he could, even if just a little, made her feel better.

Aurora looked down at the notebook and hesitated. She slowly handed it to him and quickly placed her hands back in her lap before she could change her mind. "Few have ever seen them. I guess this would be a start if I've gotta trust you with my life," she stated quietly.

I smiled and opened the book. In it I found pages, upon pages of songs, music and lyrics. Some of them I read, and hummed the tune a bit. "These are amazing!" I said, occasionally glancing up at her "I mean, with a voice like yours, and your talents with the piano...just incredible!" I was laughing a little to myself at how incredible she was musically. Eventually, I closed the book, handed it back to her and said "I've never met someone who has such a talent for music."

Aurora kept her eyes down and started putting the pictures back in the envelope. She hesitantly reached for the Christmas one then stopped and closed the envelope before putting it back in the guitar. She nervously picked it up and put it down in front of Oliver. She had to fight back tears once more as she said, "I want you to have this."

Sapphira began to sing. Her friends had always said she was amazing; her mother and sisters had always told her otherwise. But they weren't her real family, were they? Perhaps that's why she had always felt so disconnected. The thought was.... Freeing, she decided, after searching for the correct word. "Imagine livin' like a king some day, a single night without a ghost in the walls..." The song sounded much better on guitar, but her violin always gave it such a mournful quality. At the moment, the quiet girl decided it fit.

I looked at her. "But...that's one of your favorite pictures" I said confused "Why do you want me to have it" I was genuinely confused and was not really sure if I could accept such a sentimental gift.

As the last notes of the song trailed off, Sapphira decided it wouldn't do any good to sit in her room alone. She set down her violin, exiting the room, before she realized that she had no idea where to go. Instead of wandering, she chose to sink down in the hallway where she stood, leaning against the wall across from her door.

"To be honest, I don't know why. I just know I want you to have it and I'm not taking no for an answer," Aurora said sternly but gave a small smile. She brought her knees up and wrapped her arms around them.

Oliver was the only one she trusted, and he was nowhere to be found. He's probably with one of the other girls. They're much prettier than you, a jealous voice in the back of her mind snapped. It reminded her of her mother's. What does that have to do with anything? she thought back. So what if he's with someone else right now. They probably need it a lot more than I do.

I smiled at her. "Thanks" Was all I could say because I was actually quite touched. "You really are an incredible person, you know that" I said, shifting so I was facing her and giving her a sort of half-mouth smile.

Sapphira bent her long legs, wrapping her arms around them and resting her forehead on her knees. She was too tall. First she had been too loud, so now she was too quiet. She was not anywhere close to being pretty. All of the lies her "mother" had ever told her came flooding back. They had embedded themselves in her brain like knives, tearing away at her self esteem.

Aurora stayed silent and refused to look up. She rested her chin on her knees and sighed. "Far from it,"'she said quietly then became silent again. She would have said more but she couldn't think of anything else.

Sapphira took a shaky breath, unwilling to let the tears come. "I don't need anyone," she murmured. "I'll probably die alone anyway."

I went and sat so I was right next to her. "You are an amazing musician singer, you have a good sense of humor, you're kind" I said looking at her "Not to mention you're so beautiful. You are incredible, don't you ever doubt that"

Sapphira glanced up at her surroundings. The grey was driving her crazy. With a jolt, she remember her box of personal belongings. She ran over to it, hoping, praying.... And there it was: her art kit. The artist smiled. Her laptop and computer tablet were there too. And so was her writing notebook. She pulled out a box of paint tubes. There wasn't much, and she could get into a lot of trouble, but that was a chance she was willing to take.

She couldn't help but laugh softly and shook her head. She got up and looked around before turning towards Oliver, "I'm gonna go ask about that paint. Wanna come with?" She gave a genuine smile and slid on her jacket, her favorite one. She brought the hood over her head and started playing with the cat ear as she waited for an answer.

Aurora blushed more than normal and walked out of her room. She walked down the hallway looking in every room, with no luck with finding Tobias. She decided to stay quiet as she twirled a strand of hair with her fingers.

Sapphira left her door open, so the paint fumes wouldn't suffocate her. She gazed at the colors; it felt like years since she had seem something so vibrant. She smiled a bit, selecting a cyan paint tube.

As we were walking down, looking for Tobias, we went past a room that I didn't look in. But then I sniffed it out. Paint. I turned on my heel, catching Aurora a little by surprise. I poked my head in the room, and motioned Aurora over saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have color."

I turned around walking back and poked my head in the room. I watched her intently and gave a small smile, "Hey Sapphira. Whatcha doing?" I knew it was a somewhat stupid question, but I didn't care for the sake of conversation making.
