Fantasy Everything Is Not As It Seems...

She stopped playing and carefully sat the guitar down. "My older brother was my best friend. The one I had at school decided she wanted to sleep wth my ex so I guess you could say he was my only friend. I started skipping school and vandalizing property when I was thirteen for the fun of it. Nothing special." She looked at the grey room and started thinking. "Apparently were gonna be here a while. I wonder if we're allowed to paint our rooms," she said getting up as she straightened out her shirt.

"Yeah, not that I'm not a fan of the whole 'making you want to kill yourself from dullness' vibe" I said with a wry smirk as I looked around the room "It would be damn nice to get some color in this place. These people must have forgot what colors are. I'll speak to Tobias about it a little later."

Cole got relieved as they got into the kitchen. He was happy as Lake could smile at once. "Well, according to others, my cook is quite good." Answered her question. Opening the fridge, it took him quite a time to inspect it's vast context. He took out the ingredients of pancakes and roasted eggs along with some vegetables. Taking out three tomatoes, he placed the rest before Lake. "Unfortunately I can only provide you with red, but maybe even that would help a lot." Answered pointing at the tomatoes. He was curious if the girl understood what he tried to say, and if she would take the opportunity. Turning back to the counter, he started preparing the pancakes first. "Would you like to drink anything? There are fruit juices in the fridge, milk, and some soft drinks too." Asked her as he was cooking. Later on, as the pancakes were almost ready, he prepared maple syrup, several different kind of jams and peanut butter onto the table, not knowing which if these did she like. He gave a plate to her, and took out an other too. Onto the one, he gave the girl, hhid did put nothing, but onto the latter he towered up all the cupcakes he made. "Hope you'll like it, and if so, then enjoy the meal!" He added with a decent smile on his face.

After he was done with it and as he was waiting for the girl's answer regarding the drinks, he started making roasted eggs, with bacon and cheese.

Aurora smiled widely and leaned over letting her hair fall in her face as she looked at it. She frowned a bit and stood back upright. "In the meantime I have got to do something about this," she laughed motioning to her hair. "But one more question. Where did you get it? The locket I mean," she asked nervously.

I froze. I had completely forgotten that in my haste to help her, even without a shirt, I had left my locket in view. I sighed. "My little brother gave it to me" I said walking over to her and clicking it open, revealing a picture of me when I was ten and my little brother standing on the beach with our arms around each other, smiling widely. That was enough to start the tears again. They came slowly this time at least, and my voice stayed steady, but I didn't stop the tears. I didn't try to. "Uh...he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer about 2 weeks after this picture was taken" I said looking back at Aurora "He didn't make it"

Aurora looked down sadly for a moment before looking back up. "I.....I'm sorry. I didn't know," she said softly as she reached up, using her thumb to wipe away the tears. She wasn't sure what to say without making things worse. She hesitated a bit before hugging him gently, not knowing what else to do.

I put my arms around her and hugged her back. "Sorry to just drop that" I said still hugging her, not really wanting to let go "I'm just getting used to telling people about it. So I still get a little emotional."

Lake frowned at the tomatoes she got and shot Cole a confusing look before taking a bite out of one as he started to cook. After eating two, she finally got her pancakes and added extra syrup. "So what's you're story?" She asked with her mouth full after taking a bite. "Since most of us probably have a story or two to tell, what do you have to say?" Lake grabbed her plate and leaned against the stove as she continued eating her pancakes. She wanted to know if he would lie to her. "You're a good cook, so you must have done something at some point."

She pushed herself up on the counter with one hand, placed her pancakes down and stole a piece of bacon. She was really hungry, and now that she didn't have her drugs anymore, the need of eating something was ever worse then normal.

She knew it wasn't going to be an easy process, but maybe if she acted like a good girl for a while, Tobias might eventually give everything back. There was still the alcohol so she wouldn't die, but it was still different.

"There's nothing for you to be sorry about. I shouldn't have asked," she whispered somewhat tightening her grip. She never was a hugger, but for some reason, she found herself not wanting to let go. After awhile, she finally pulled away and looked down trying not to tear up. "I wanna show you something," she said quietly.

Cole smiled at the compliment. "Up till we came here..." Started his story as he finished the roasted eggs. He divided it all onto two plates, and he put one of them before the girl. He sat in front of her, and continued. "I've lived a pretty relaxing life recently. I got good marks in school and stuff. However I was all alone, I didn't really got any problems. But..." He swallowed some food and continued afterwards. "The time before that was risky. I had to make a decision, and I had to pay for it... Sadly it did not come with a low price." Told the girl. Cole stopped there, and waited. He wanted the girl to ask from him.

Lake opened her mouth to ask Cole what the prices was but doubted for a second. She didn't want to tell her story so why did she want to know his story? Taking a bite from her eggs and pancakes, she thought it over again what if he didn't want to tell her? What if he asked her for her story? Would she be able to tell him? She didn't even know him!

"S-so…" Lake asked carefully. "Wh-what was the price?" Then she regretted speaking. "I'm sorry, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to!" For some reason she didn't want to be alone and she didn't want to scare him off. "I shouldn't have asked you. It's okay! I um… Thanks for the food." She said, half panicking, leaving her food as she jumped off the counter. "Forget that I ever asked, okay? It's none of my business any way." She stuffed her hands in her pocket and headed towards the kitchen doors with her head low.

"It's alright!" Called Cole after Lake. "The price I had to pay was to cut all of my bonds with everyone." Said as he walked to Lake. She seemed really down. Cole gently raised her head by her chin, looked deep into her eyes, and continued. "I had no more friends, and I couldn't even talk with my mother a lot. I had to give up my social self because of what I had decided. They -my friends- did not understand me so soon everyone hated, and forgot me." Said Cole, as he firmly took Lake's both hands into his. "For years I was fighting alone. Day by day dozens of people wanted me dead." Told her with a small smile on his face. He knew that the girl would discover that she's not alone. "If you wanna ask anything go ahead! I'll answer every questions of yours." Added Cole.

For some reason, Cole's touch was burning her. Pulling her hands from his, she crushed him in a hug and buried her face in his chest as she started shaking like a leaf. "I'm so scared, Cole." She finally confessed in a sob. She didn't care if Cole saw her all broken and torn. Why was he so different? Why couldn't she put up her tough act? What was wrong with her?! "What's wrong with me?" She asked as she looked up in his blue eyes and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. "I don't know what to do anymore! Everything is upside down! I was perfectly normal just yesterday and now I feel like a mess!" She buried her face in his chest again and started crying. "What's wrong with me? Why don't I understand what's going on? Why do we have these stupid powers?! I don't want them! I just want to go home! I don't want to be like this! I don't want to be a freak…" He voice quieted down towards a whisper and felt her knees growing weaker. "I want to go home… I want my dad…" Lake dropped towards the floor and cried against the grey tiles. "Why me? Why us? What did we do to deserve this?"

"No, its good that people ask about it. I need to be able to say itout loud. It wases the pain little by little" I said looking at her "Anyway what is it you wanna show me?"

Aurora stayed silent as she walked out of the room. While she headed back the way they had came, she kept thinking about how she could reveal her most secretive prized possession to a near stranger. Shaking her head slightly, she tightened her grip on the book and opened her door. She made her way inside her room and sat on her bed taking a deep breath. She started shaking lightly as she felt the need to choke back tears.

I followed her all the way back to her room and when we got back, I could see she was shaking a bit. "Hey, whats wrong? " I asked sitting next to her on the bed and putting my arm around her shoulders "You don't need to show it to me if it will upset you." I tightened my hold on her a bit so she eas right ip against me.

She nodded and nervously reached for her guitar. After undoing the strings, Aurora reached in and pulled out a thick envelope. She sat it next to her and redid the strings quickly and shakily. I'll fix it later she thought. She sat it back in its place then picked up the envelope. Sighing internally, she opened it carefully. After pausing briefly, she dumped out around a hundred pictures from it. "My mom was a photographer. Starting when I turned six, she would take a picture of just me and her once a week. Kinda like our mother-daughter tradition except more frequently," she said as she fought back tears while she still could. "I saved every one of them so I would have something to look at when I'm old." She spoke softly, unable to steady her quivering voice.

I kept one arm around hrr and picked up some of the pictures carefully. They were beautiful pictures actually. They both looked so at peace and happy. " I see where you get your beauty" I said looking at her. Her mom actuallly looked a lot like her. Maybe she was already a ETDU agent so she was allowed to keep her child.

Aurora held her breath then let out a sigh as she picked up a picture. It was of her and her mother in Santa hats with candy canes and they seemed to be playing in the snow, smiling widely. "This was the last picture she took. It was on Christmas Day. She..." she stopped speaking as tears started falling down fast. She attempted to take a deep breath, but it was shaky. "She told me nothing would ever happen. That we would always be safe, all four of us. And two days later I found out." She was barely able to finish the statement before she broke down crying.

I wrapped both my arms around her. There wasn't to say so all I did say was "She clearly lovexyou more than anything. Always remember that" I held her tight, not saying anything else as there was nothing else I could say.

As Lake buried her face into Cole's chest, he hugged the girl. Cole was not sure, if their parents were the real ones. He was not sure if Lake was missing the person who she thought as her father, or the system that Tobias ruined. Only one thing was clear. That for Lake it all was a burden. Cole had many thing not just in his mind, but in his heart as well. First, he did not say a word. He couldn't. As she was crying there, Cole couldn't help think of anything that would make her feel better. And the only thing he wanted, is to help her. Cole felt confused, worried, and hurt. He too felt the girl's pain, and this was not something that surprised him. He felt like there is not a single thing, he wouldn't do for her.

He raised Lake's face again, and he wiped her tears down. "You know what?" He started as he looked into her eyes again. He wanted to make sure that the girl understands his seriousness. "We stay here, and learn how to get full control over our powers. Okay? And when we have it, I'll help you. I'll help you to go home, and see your father again." Saying that, he hugged her again. He wanted the girl to realize that he'll be always there, and that he'll always help her.

A line crossed his mind. He was not aware though, that as he thought about it, he silently mumbled it as well. "There's a room where light won't find you. Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down. When they do, I'll be right behind you"

Aurora tried to stop crying because she felt vulnerable and stupid. She wiped her eyes multiple times and became as quiet and as still as she possibly could. She took a long, shaky, deep breath and sighed, "I...umm....I'm sorry. You can go if you want." She refused to look up and simply stared at her hands in her lap.

I smiled down at her and tilted her head up by the chin so she was looking at me. "I'm not going anywhere" I said as I looked deep into her eyes "Sorry but you're stuck with me."

Aurora blushed looking away. "Well then. If you don't mind, I kinda need a shower. I haven't had one since last night," she shrugged her shoulders quickly and got up. She reached behind her and undid the hook on her necklace, then carefully sat it down. She made her way to the closet and opened it hoping to find some clothes, and to her surprise, there is a closet full of them. She grabbed a pair of black ripped skinny jeans and a purple Asking Alexandria shirt before going to the bathroom. She closed and locked the door behind her then got a rather quick shower.

After getting dressed, she grabbed a box of black hair dye and decided to dye all of her hair black. Once she finished, she put bright purple streaks in it then walked out and put her necklace back on.

" I should do the same " I said "I'll be back in a bit" I went to the bathroom near my room and took a very short shower, then puton some black pants and a white sleeveless vest. When I went back to Aurora's room, I knocked on the door and went in. She had dyed her hair and it looked amazing. "You look great" I said, smirking and walking towards her.
