Fandom ESO - A Waltz of the Illustrious ::

Arch-Magnate of the Beau Monde Patriciate
For all the RPs I have participated in, I’ve yet to begin my own; and so now I bring you this – an unconventional tale of treachery, nobility, civility and of course dancing.

As mentioned in the title, this RP is solely focused on participant choice. Each member of this thread is free to choose whatever they wish to do, so long as it does not contradict the rules below. Each roleplayer is writing their own tale within a grand scheme of deceit, power, and perhaps love. It is your choice. Though this RP will follow a story, whether you seek to be a part of that story is your choice. At any time you may leave to pursue your own goals. To throw in a shocking twist, and expand upon the great unknown of the land of politics and nobility. In fact, I implore you; if an idea comes, you write it down. We want to hear your tale, your character’s personality come to life, and halt the plans of those around you. I must warn you, your goals may be halted, and your values stripped; as any other member is able to interrupt your tale should they choose, and twist it to their advantage; it is up to you to turn it back to your favour.

Each participant is free to decide whether they seek to help his fellow RPers, or to deceive, and trick them to their own benefit. It is your choice, though do be careful; lest you lose everything you fought so well for.

First the rules, and then the story.

Rules and worthy notes:

No Mary-stus or Gary-sues — These are characters which are perfect in everyway, and have no flaws to their abilities or personality. I will be using a character application system to avoid this.

– You have almost unlimited choice and action (after the RP has started; there are a set of prerequisites mentioned below) – though I must enforce — killing other participants is not allowed unless agreed upon by both members. All else is freedom of choice… ALL ELSE.

– Try to be aware of your character at all times. Other characters (controlled and uncontrolled) will react accordingly to a number of things. Such as your appearance, your attitude, your renown etc. I’d like for each RPer to be fully aware of who they are, and take into account how people would treat them in kind when writing. Crimes will get you arrested (if caught or if you are the last person SEEN with someone who goes missing). Being aggressive will lose favour, but may be useful to instigate fear in certain situations. Etc. etc.

– This is the Imperial City, rumour spreads quickly. If you’re witnessed doing something, it will spread like wildfire. Rumours can be spread by participants or just non-player characters. Use it to your advantage, and be careful!

– Please take your inventory seriously. If you’re dressed for a ball, you’d have to leave all other belongings somewhere else. Hidden items etc. must be small, and you’ll have to take care not to get caught with anything prohibited. No infinitely spaced backpacks either.

– Enchantments cannot be too OP. You can have whatever you like, but don’t make yourself invulnerable except to small things such as poison (very useful).

– This will be set after the war, by a few years.

– Gold is not unlimited. And things are expensive in the Imperial City. Bring items you think you may need before the RP starts, because they’ll be in scarce supply in the City (but you can’t bring an infinite amount, because who’s arms are that strong.) – If you can stash them somewhere safe, do so. But if another participant stumbles upon them – realistically – they can steal it.

– It’s the little things that count. Really, watch out.

- You cannot leave the Imperial City during the RP (the sewers are available for travelling throughout the City but not outside.)

– Basically, all of these are saying; treat this realistically – but the above are just to hint at what I mean by that. Ta, very much.

– As this is a ball for the rich or famous — All characters which are high-ranking faction members (any faction) will receive an invitation and a letter, however; characters that are of low rank or not a part of a faction will require some other method to become a part of the RP. So long as it’s believable, it can be any method. Such as the murder of a lesser known invitee, and taking upon his identity – Sneaking in and remaining incognito by avoiding certain people. Whatever you can think of. Otherwise, invitations can cost 10000 gold if your character is very wealthy.

– There is only ONE thing in the entire plot of this story that will definitely happen that I already know of. Some will see it coming, some will be unpleasantly surprised.

The Story:

Set soon after the great war, and the victory of the peoples of Tamriel. The introduction of peace and co-operation has led to economic prosperity. The Imperial City, now a hub for trade from all across Tamriel; is home to the rich, thearistocracy, and wealthy tradesmen. Balls and parties are often thrown, among one of which our story begins. Despite the prosperous people, and the seemingly jovial nature of the people of the Imperial City, a dark undertone wisps its way around the City’s inhabitants. Greed, lust and jealousy are among the many emotions running wild amongst the people of the Imperial City, every dance, ball and gathering a great battle of wills; each individual ready to pounce and tear its prey apart. Social status has become a necessity to remain welcome in the City, and should one falter in any aspect; they would be shunned by the rest, and the wolves return to their hunting grounds, one less enemy to worry about.

It is in this new society that a thief, so masterfully skilled that he has yet to be given a name; runs rampant. The people too focused on themselves, and oblivious to what is truly happening, make his job far easier. However, the latest theft could not go unnoticed. The Empress’ jewelled mask, a rare piece of exquisite craftsmanship; worth mountains of gold. Gone. Unable to allow such an occurance to be made public, the empress’ personal guard has sent private word to a small band of individuals to uncover the thief, and return the mask, the band of individuals is you.

You must take on the role you choose, using your methods and your skills to find the thief and retrieve the mask. You may choose any approach, be it disguised as a noble as you interrogate others (subtly) to gain the information you require. Or perhaps a more forward approach, seeking to raid every household you see until you find the mask. The thief could be anyone, and be anywhere; where your path leads you, only you will know. You may choose to work with the other participants, to increase your chances of finding the mask, though sharing the reward; or you may pit yourself against them, taking the full reward for yourself. Or perhaps you seek to keep the mask yourself, though it will not come without a price. The choice is yours. What will you do?
