A world in which magic and Steampunk collide. Wizardry is a common art, and, although not many possess the gift, the ones that do don’t have much power at all. They can cast a few illumination spells or cause a spark at their fingertips, but that’s it. A few children (young adults), however, are particularly gifted, and the tyrannical government has gotten wind of them. In order to escape the grasp of the assassins dispatched to wipe them out, the kids must scramble across a Steampunk, post-apocalyptic world in search for freedom, liberty, and justice

~The Start~

​

The warm spring air blew around Blackwatch City as many people went about their business as usual. There were small magic shops all over the city for the wizards that live in Blackwatch. Now remember these wizards can make maybe sparks fly from their fingertips and turn small things such as ladybugs different colors. In certain parts of this city though there are the select few who's abilities surpass the normal wizards' abilities. Be careful though, the government doesn't like these powerful people. If I were you I would be hiding myself right now. But this story isn't about me! It's about those special kids who can change the fate of the world...

Aofel walked into the city of Blackwatch. He had never visited this city before, and of course it was simply yet another city that he would travel through. He sighed, most of the people around him was already avoiding him due to the pair of black wings that were spread on his back, it was how everyone reacted when it came to his wings. Black Angels were rumored to bring bad luck of misfortune, and it made perfectly sense for him for them to believe the saying, heck. He even believed it himself. There were a lot of blimps that were invading the city with their constant motors making large sounds in the air, crowds were everywhere as Aofel felt as he barely had what he counted as 'personal space'.


Aofel sighed, he hated crowded places, but to get moving he needed to go through Blackwatch. It had been quite during the last couple of days it had been quiet, very quiet and he enjoyed it more than he thought. Of course, he was on the road then and now he was in a large town. He needed some well needed rest, it was far too many people that were gathered here. It's so annoying... crowded places... People are avoiding me like I'm the plague too. Hmph. Makes it easier for me to walk at the very least, so I shall simply find a place to stay for the night. If I manage to convince the inn keeper to give me a room that is. The last time I tried, I ended up threatening him with a beast that was about to bite off his neck... Aofel thought to himself, as he put both of his hands in his pocket.





"Hey Aofel~ We want to come out and play too~!" "Yeah! Let us come out and play~!" it was the two Kitsune, fox spirits, that were his two closest spirits that he could conjure out. They were always up for mischief, and sometimes he had no clue what they were doing. Though they had the ability to talk to him through his mind, and they liked nothing more, but to torture poor human souls, not killing them simply terrifying them. "You can't. Now leave me alone. I'm tired," Aofel thought back, continue his walk around Blacwatch City. "Eh? No fun~! We haven't played since we almost bit that innkeeper's neck off!" "Oh yeah! That was fun wasn't it? The fear~ It satisfied our hunger perfectly~!" "I know~!" They both laughed amusingly, as Aofel simply ignored them and let out a small sigh.

"Zach! I need you to get me two crates of color magic boosters!" Elys called from out front. Her long blonde hair was in the usual hairstyle today as she was working at the magic shop today. Her brilliant golden eyes seemed to light up as more young wizards came into the shop looking at little magical cards. She laughed as some couldn't even activate the cards. She didn't like when people asked her to show them how to activate the cards because usually she would use too much magic and make the cards burn. "Oi! Zach!" She called walking into the backroom with her hands on her hips. There was her silver haired friend sitting on his big red couch with two girls clinging to him.

Zach looked up and saw his adorable friend Elys. "Oh? My Elys were you calling for me?" He asked looking at her with a flirtatious grin. His yellow eyes sparked in interest as Elys walked over to him with a fake smile. You could defiantly see the irritation on her face. That was never a good sign.

Elys walked close to him and crossed her arms over her chest. "Actually I was" she said her voice dripping with irritation though she wore a smile on her face. "So Zach what was it that I wanted?" She asked grabbing his jacket collar.


"Um a hug?" He suggested. Elys laughed as her grip on his white and blue jacket tightened.

Senira wandered the streets, gripping at the hood she had over her head. She smelled a nice, soft smell in the air, and followed its source, ending up in a small bakery. "Do you need any help?" she asked a woman who was bent over an oven.


The lady turned. "Oh, thank you, dear--can you hold this for me?"


Senira made her way to the lady, holding the tray while slipping the hood off her head. "I can stay a while and help," she offered.


"Oh, are you sure?" the woman asked. "That's very kind of you."

"Oh? A hug? Well then how about I give you one?" Elys said as she dragged Zach outside. There was a group of girls waiting outside the magic shop. Some of them seemed half crazed...perfect. Her smile widened as she looked at the girls. "EAT UP LADIES! Elys shouted as she threw her best friend into the group of merciless Zach fans.


"ANYTHING BUT THIS ELYS!!" Zach screamed as he soon disappeared into the swarm of hungry fans.


"Good work Elys" She said to herself as she walked back into the shop to help her costumers.

(OMG, I AM HEADED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR ANOTHER LUNG TRANSPLANT. X.X I love Elys' character; my god. >.< Poor Zach, though....he's probably just crushing on Elys. )

Rin ran through the black market cash in hand as he ran very very fast people yelling behind him "Hey you bought it so stop freaking out on me!" Rin yells as he turns into a alley way in the slums of blackwatch headed towards his secret base, he had juts done a deal and he was a good bargainer so he sold them a faulty contraption because he needed cash....he also kinda stole some of there parts, including a very powerful battery, not his fault it was shiny and cool looking, he headed home deep in the black market and set the battery down with the other parts he stole on a daily, he never even noticed when he stole things anymore, kinda just slipped his mind now.


Rin laid down on his bed and looked up at a hologram of what the stars looked like, he could build all he wanted....but he would never see the stars from this city, so much pollution and scum he would never see it, plus the black market was partially underhouses and the ground so seeing the stars was impossible, he turned to a picture of his father and sighed, he was in a massive home full of prototypes and robots. Rin left his house soon enough headed for the magic shop, he needed something to do today and wondered if they had any parts..

The town reeks of oil, the sounds of metallic clanks shatter the tranquility Hijack was trying to maintain in his head. He opens his eyes slowly, looking up at a sky filled with pillars of smoke and transport ships. It seems trying to nap was not going to actually work here. Blinking a few times, he yawned and sat up from the cool floor he had attempted to sleep on. Hijack stretched his arms outward, hearing the pleasurable cracks and pops they release. The wind seemed to have picked up slightly, pressing a gentle breeze on his cheek. If it wasn't for the loud machines that inhabited this place, perhaps it would be a serene and nice place to live. A small, hidden grin appeared on his face with that thought. He got up from his sitting position and began walking to the side of the roof, looking down at the town below. It was filled with sounds of commerce and wizards showing "magic tricks". Ladies and gentleman, do I have something fascinating to show you! Watch as I make this box...float in mid-air! -I kid you not madam, my cards told me of your future. Tell me...do you have a son named- Which cup has the ball? Can anyone guess? Anyone!? s


Hijack stares on at the magicians staging there tricks, entertaining the common-folk. His hand tightens it's grip on the rifle. All of them being entertained by such petty magic. The visible eye not hidden by his skull mask lightens and turns into a light blue, like some sort of scanner had been activated in his skull. The grin he held has now turned into a frown, his eye looking through the crowds intensely. "Tsk." He suddenly realized why he had decided to nap. He'd hate this town. "None of them have any real power. None that I look for." He turned his head and his eye darkened again, returning to it's original color. Hijack was now slightly miffed, his target was going to be an annoying one. He walked in the opposite direction, heading to a market.

-Hour Later-


Zach slowly opened the magic shop door. His clothes were almost scraps. "E-Elys..." he said lifting his head. He had small bruises and lipstick all over him. Plus he reeked of perfume.


"Oh? Back already? Did you enjoy your hug? Wasn't it pleasant~" Elys said crouching down to Zach's level. "Now to make sure this never happens again why don't you learn to listen once in a while" she brought her face close to his ad whispered. "Or do I have to bring you to your fan club's bar again?"


"E-Elys...you w-wouldn't be that heartless...would you?" Zach asked slowly sitting up and stared at Elys who was wearing an evil smirk.


"Oh, my dear Zach...you seem to be doubting me again.."

 

[CrystalTears]

An hour had went by and Aofel had yet to find an inn, but instead he walked past what seemed to be like a circus. It was how to gather as many people as possible and make them bundle up in one place, Aofel hated such places. He hated all the people, there were simply more there to avoid him due to his black wings. He sighed, as he was about to pass, but his body stopped moving for a second. "HEY! Don't walk past this! Look! It's a circus~!" The female demon said to him, annoying him once more as he had already taken several detours to satisfy their nagging about him walking past several of the market's great suggestions of what to buy or what to use his money on. "Don't pass it! I want to see what it's like to be in a circus! You've never been there before~!" The male one said, continuing the female one's nagging about it.





"It's crowded, and it's noisy. There'll be a bunch of people there too. I hate such places," Aofel answered as he was still standing outside the entrance to the main tent. He could already hear the loud music and the people cheering on the inside, clapping and shouting something that was nothing, but annoyingly loud noises to Aofel. "Come on~ Just like... ten minutes! Then we won't nag you anymore! Then we'll find an inn, for real!" The female one begged Aofel, as he only sighed. "We promise~ We Pinky promise~" The male one added as Aofel was at a loss when it came to the two of them, they annoyed him far too much for him not to bend to their will at times. "Ten minutes. Not a second longer. I can't stand these places. I hate them," Aofel answered back annoyed as he wasted some of his money on the circus fee and entered inside the tent.


The people stared as Aofel entered the tent, his black wings clearly drew most of their attention away from the show for a few seconds, just the moment he entered. How many times had Aofel been asked to join in on a freak show in a circus on his travels? He sighed, as he simply sat down, making the ones that sat closest to him move to the sides. "Oh! It's going to be so much fun~! We are in a circus! CIRCUS!" "Think that we can see a real show! I can't wait to see what's going to happen~! Do you think it'll be a magician? A Clown, a liontamer? A REAL DRAGON?!" They both laughed as Aofel sighed again. "Shut it and enjoy the show. Or I'll leave right now. You were the ones that wanted to see it, so watch and shut it," Aofel thought, watching the show himself as he had paid to watch it, and wasting money was something he wasn't going to do.

As Elys graded Zach's collar again she saw the biggest airship she has ever seen before. The thing that was different about this one was it was loaded with guns. Elys' eyes widened as it stopped moving and floated above the town square. Men walked out into the deck and one of them spoke into the speakers so the whole town could hear.


"Listen up! You magic users are not going to hide any longer! We will find you and will eliminate you before you even have a chance to run! Don't worry you puny wizards, we are only looking for the beings with the magical abilities to destroy our world!!" Gasps erupted from the people and it seem Blackwatch stood still.

Zach's eyes widened as he looked at Elys who as on her knees her hands hiding her face. He reached out a hand and placed it on her shoulder. "Don't worry Elys I'll keep you safe" he promised as she shook her head.


"Zach....we are going to be hunted..." Elys said in a whisper as the loud noises of the airship returned as it flew away from the town square

 

[Harbinger]

Alex finished passing out the pay from their latest job. "5,000 coins just to watch after some some damn spoiled kids as they just walked around shopping. Why don't we ever get those types of jobs all the time." Alex kept his hood on to make sure people didn't notice him and try to attack him for his money. He carried over 500 coins in a medium sized pouch and began a trek for a well known magic shop on the other side of town. when he reached there he saw the airship land in the town square then fly away. Alex walked into the shop and saw two people that looked very worried "I'm sorry if I'm interrupting something but I came to look for a card that would make a nice gift for my wife. She is a fan of the whole wizard and magic thing."

"A card? What type of card?" Elys asked raising slowly to her feet. She dusted off her dress and fixed her hat as she smiled at the man. "We have many types of cards so I will bring an assortment of them out for you to choose from." She said and dragged Zach to the back room with her

 

[Harbinger]

"Any type of card will be fine, I have the money to burn and I just want something to make my wife happy. Thank you for the service." Alex took a look around the store and was confused by what everything was. He just continued to look and took out his pistols and cleaned them while waiting.

"Zach how the heck are we supposed to keep working here?!" Elys asked in a hushed voice as she began to put !magical cards into a small box. She needed the costumer to pick what he wanted because she defiantly couldn't

Alex was getting bored of being quiet and tried to start up a conversation "did you guys see that dropship and their spouting about how they will kill all magic users. A bunch of idiots they are, they will kill each other before they can achieve what they want." Alex loaded and reloaded his gun to make sure the mechanism worked.

"Huh? Oh yeah that. I don't know how they would even find those powerful users" Elys said as Zach just stayed in the back to get cleaned up. Elys set the small box gently down on the counter. "Most of these cards are magic activated, but some react to sunlight or moonlight and the will usually show off brilliant colors and such" she explained as sweat beaded at the top of her brow

 

[Harbinger]

Alex chose a card that his wife would like and put the pouch on the counter. "Take how much the card is worth from there and keep the rest for yourself, think of it as a thanks for helping me make my wife very happy." Alex looked at the girl and saw she looked very nervous and was sweating.

"Thank you sir" she said and took the exact amount the card was. "Well I'm glad I helped you and I hope your wife will enjoy that" Elys then grabbed the small box after she handed the man his pouch back. She began to put the cards away as she heard Zach in the shower.

"Are you okay miss, you seem to be on edge about something. You're sweating like we're in a sauna and your face has the color of someone that just saw a ghost." Alex had a look of concern under his hood and removed it to reveal his black hair and blue eyes. "Does it have to do with those men that just arrived here in the drop ship."

"No no I'm fine just a bit nervous that men might be killing innocent people" she said as she grabbed a towel and dabbed her face dry. Elys smiled, "Thank you for your concern, but I am just uneasy with the idea of such powerful people roaming in our city"
