Forget It, Shoot Me
Setting
1910
Kanto Region - Saitama - Japan
Plot
In the 1300s, a woman named Princess Fuse had 8 Canine Warriors who fought demons, known as yōkai. The yōkai commonly causing plagues, famine, death, and a variety of curses. However, she fell to the ages of time along with her Canine Warriors, passing from age. Once word spread that there was no one to stop the yōkai from terrorizing the people of Japan, a powerful darkness spread throughout the land. This went on for years with no one to stop them, effectively at least. Samurai took the stand to attempt to stop the growing evil but few succeeded.
A group know as the Yakai Clan honored Princess Fuse and her history. One of the elders was given spiritual insight on how to bring peace back to the Kanto region. The story of Princess Fuse and her Canine Warriors continue through new generations of chosen women, blessed with the spirit of the Princess. Filling the seat as one falls, and similarly with the Canine Warriors. This story focuses on a woman named Fusae Tokomo who recently came "back home" after her father, Emperor Nakamika, rejected her honorable duties as the Princess of the Canine Warriors due to selfishness.
After learning much from Haku, a mysterious elder from the Yakai Clan, she must find her 8 Canine Warriors while putting an end to some of the biggest of yōkai. However, it turns out her father plays a role into the darkness and she must confront him sooner than later. Will the Canine Warriors remain loyal to Princess Tokomo, or claim loyalty to the Emperor of Japan through his falsehood?
For many generations, the Yakai Clan has honored the history of the original Princess Fuse and her Canine Warriors dating back to the early 1300s. A woman and her eight dogs that defeated countless waves of evil that terrorized the people of Japan. However, when Princess Fuse fell to the time of age, the Canine Warriors could no longer protect against the growing evils. This left the dogs to be just that - dogs, and slowly became one with dust. Word of her departure with the world quickly spread and just as wildfire, evil was soon too much for even military forces to handle.
The Yakai Clan was slowly falling apart due to the lack of belief and constant arguments about what the clan should be doing since her departure. There were no descendants, no Canine Warriors, a lack of piety, and diminishing strength as a whole. However, not all were lost. One of the elder members, named Haku, began spreading word that the members must return themselves to spiritual purity by putting themselves into a deep meditation. By doing this, they believed they would be able to find an answer to their problem. But, by mediating day and night, for days, weeks and eventually years - people could no longer continue thus leaving Haku and a few others to themselves in a vegetative state during mediation. Those who survived lost faith and eventually disappeared.
Finally, after three long and painful years, Haku awoken from his deep meditation with an answer. Though very fragile, he appeared to be full of life, allowing him to recover in due time. While others who stayed with him to the end, did not survive. Petrified carcasses that sat there like statues. A simple gust would surely turn them to dust. Haku claims he was gifted the ability to choose a descendant of Princess Fuse and continue the legacy for years to come. While there was surely a lack of belief, his actions soon spoke for himself.
The remainer of his life, and the eternity of his soul, was dedicated to protecting, teaching, and choosing the next Princess of the Canine Warriors.
Many years have passed since the next Princess came into power, with a growing generation of strong ladies taking place. It's now the early 1900's, Japan is still recovering from the large increase of evil that ran rampant during the silent periods of the Yakai Clan, and the last Princess of the Canine Warriors, Ashura, has fallen from a terrible illness. Currently, Emperor Nakamika rule under a monarchy with a lingering dark secret.
His first and only daughter, Fusae Tomoko was chosen to be the next Princess of the Canine Warriors. Her birth was marked when the world howled at her arrival. Naturally, the parent must surrender their daughter to the Yakai Clan so she must fulfill her duty. However, he did not surrender her immediately as agreed upon and raised Tomoko until she was 16. As she grew older, her life began to change in ways that even the best of physicians could not determine the root causes. Frequent migraines, "hallucinations", and abdominal pain has become a daily thing for Tomoko. The Yakai Clan were patient for some time until one night, on a full moon, a mysterious figure appeared within the halls of the Imperial Court undetected making their way to the royal family. Confronting Emperor Nakamika and his concubine, "We have waited long enough for our Princess. Tonight, she comes home with us." During this time, wolves and domesticated dogs begin to surround the area, alerting the guards. Conflicts rose. In response to the Emperor's denial, the mysterious figure lunged with something sharp on its hand. "Please! Stop! I'll surrender myself in exchange for the protection of my family." Tomoko shouted as she came from the shadows nearby.
There is little written history about this night and some maids from the courts have determined the Emperor has been trying to keep that night as quiet as possible. Perhaps he kept dark secrets or felt too ashamed. As far as the world knew, Tomoko had passed away from a serious illness.
That's far from the truth as Tomoko is alive, and well. The symptoms of her illness disappeared after she left home and her hallucinations turned out to be the dead trying to contact her. Worn, old warriors from times past seeking to be by her side in the form of Canine Warriors. The mysterious figure, later named Haku, explained that her father made a deal with a demon to have his brother fall ill so Nakamika can take the crown in his younger years. Of course, for a price. He must fall to a similar fate by the age of 20. Later, Nakamika seeked the aid of the Inu-Yakai to escape his demonic dealings. Thus, Haku made him a deal. He will allow Nakamika escape his fate in exchange for the first daughter who will be the reincarnation of the Princess of Canine Warriors who resided with the Inu-Yakai. But, Emperor Nakamika never upheld his end of the deal resulting in that dreary night.
When a worthy warrior is going through their final moments of life, either it be naturally or from some unfortunate event, Princess Tomoko mysteriously appears. No one seems to notice her, and there's no real indication of which direction she may have come from. They're given a chance to continue living, but at the chance of losing the opportunity to ascend into the afterlife. Most of these warriors tend to be samurai, ashigaru, wokou, sohei or yamabushi. Though, it was not unheard of to see other formidable warriors from other continents find their way to Japan.
Very calmly, she will say;
"All things come at the price of a sacrifice. Please, play your role and fight these demons that haunt your loved ones."
Those who have declined were simply given a blessing before Tomoko vanishes in a mysterious fog, as she saw no reason to prevent the unwilling from ascending to the afterlife. When a warrior agrees to sacrifice their chance from ascending to the afterlife, their body will become lifeless and are essentially reincarnated into a domesticated dog. The breed does not seem to be of any specifics and determine it may be based on the personality of their human counterpart. At this time, there have never been a small breed dog presented as a Canine Warrior.
After the new Canine Warrior becomes aware of the world around them, they are gifted with a prayer bead made of various of stone, labeled with one of the following words; humanity, justice, courtesy, wisdom, loyalty, sincerity, filial piety and obedience. These beads are placed on a piece of rope made of silk and undefined animal fur, which then hang around the neck of the Canine Warrior similar to a collar. These prayer beads are mystical created and already placed on the Canine Warrior as they come into existence.
Lastly, before Tomoko and her new companion take leave, she will close the eyes of the dead, and say a prayer even though no soul is connected with the body. This is still considered respectful. The deceased body will develop a distinct bruise of a peony, allowing loved ones know their duties are not done when found.
Great warrior, death has found its way to you but fear not as your duties are far from over. All things come at the price of a sacrifice. Please, play your role and fight these demons that haunt your loved ones.
Your character has become a Canine Warrior. However, their human spirit is still apparent in the eyes of Princess Tomoko, only. Some yōkai can see through your canine disguise, or smell the rotted corpse of your once human self.

This roleplay is based on the story, "Nansō Satomi Hakkenden" by Kyokutei Bakin.
There are no magic or superpowers, when it comes to the Canine Warriors. You are a dog, but far from helpless. There are chances to be blessed by ancient time, mythological gods either it be in the form of a gust of wind or a by-chance luck.
This is more to tell a story in a form of a rolplay, with chapters and an ending. However, your decisions will shape the end of the story.
